Flexible inputs and controls

Polk makes it easy to integrate the PSW108 with your existing system. You can hook your receiver up to the sub either through the line-level or the speaker-level connections. The continuously variable low-pass crossover lets you dial in the sound to match the PSW108 to the rest of your speakers. And a phase switch lets you tweak the sub's output for more precise bass response.

Features

10" Driver: The Polk Audio PSW108 uses a front-firing 10" composite polymer cone driver (with foam surround) for deep, accurate response with low distortion.

Klippel Optimized Woofer: By using a state-of-the-art Klippel Distortion Analyzer, Polk is able to optimize the woofer's motor structure, voice coil alignment and suspension for the best possible performance even at extreme listening levels.

Motor Structure: The PSW108 utilizes a powerful motor structure for a higher BL responses (the measure of the motive force applied to the cone) that results in louder, deeper and punchier bass.

Compression Circuitry: The woofer's Compression Circuitry limits distortion at high volume levels.

Amplifier: The subwoofer is powered by a high-current amplifier producing 50 watts RMS/100 watts dynamic power that supplies clean power for loud bass and a wide dynamic range necessary to recreate a life-like experience in your home.

Enclosure: The PSW108 features a bass-reflex enclosure with non-resonant MDF construction and internal bracing for deep bass impact with superior detail and accuracy. The Polk Audio PSW108 is available in a black wood-grain vinyl-wrapped finish.

Front-Firing Port: The powered subwoofer's front firing port allows the woofer to be extremely efficient and provides more bass impact for your home theater experience.

Not Video Shielded: The subwoofer is not magnetically shielded, so it is not recommended to place it next to tube TVs and video monitors. Though LCD, DLP and Plasma televisions are not affected by magnetism you should allow at least 18" of space between the subwoofer and any TV.

Placement: You may place the subwoofer anywhere in your room, but it will perform best when it's on the same side of the room as your system's front speakers. Also, placing the subwoofer near a wall or in a corner will increase its loudness.

Controls

Power Switch: The subwoofer has a 2-way power switch on the rear panel. When On/Auto is selected, the subwoofer turns on automatically when an input signal is received and off 15 minutes after the signal stops. The LED power indicator glows green when the unit is on and red when the unit is off.

Volume Control: The PSW108 has a rotary volume control to adjust the volume of the subwoofer relative to the other speakers in the system.

Phase Switch: The subwoofer's phase switch allows you to select 0-degrees (normal) or 180-degrees (reverse). If the bass sounds muddy or unclear, toggling the phase control can sometimes strengthen the bass attack.

Low-Pass Filter: The PSW108 offers a continuously variable low-pass filter, adjustable from 80-160 Hz.

Connections

Line Inputs: The PSW108 has gold plated left and right RCA line level inputs. If your receiver or processor has a single subwoofer line output, you can connect it to either the left or right line input jack. For receivers having subwoofer or stereo preamp outputs that do not contain their own low-pass crossover, the PSW108 will handle the low-pass filtering. If the receiver's subwoofer output or "LFE" output has a built-in low-pass filter, the PSW108's low-pass control should be turned fully clockwise (160Hz).

Note: The PSW108 does not have a dedicated LFE input.

Speaker Level Input/Output: The subwoofer has spring clips for the speaker level inputs and outputs. The subwoofer's low-pass filter sends bass frequencies (based on the setting of the filter) to the subwoofer. The speaker level inputs and outputs are shorted together, so the output is not crossed over. You should set you receiver's front speaker setting to Large.

If you're in a humid area I would not, the box is engineered wood. Even so, I probably would invest in a marine model just to be sure

it's a simple matter of the POLK's inputs vs the soundbar's outputs. I could take the time to google your soundbar, but it should be an easy exercise for you. Wish you the best in your tech research, please let us know how it ended up.

Gage R. Does your Sony ht-ct380 have a output jack on the unit to drive a sub woofer? If so yes - if not this is a question for Sony

I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: Yes, the speaker level outputs are designed to pass through the signal and power from the speaker level inputs on the Polk PSW-108. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.

Q
I was wondering if this speaker will hook up to The Denon AVR-S500BT, if so how?
glenn  Mar 18, 2015

A
Absolutely. You would simply run a subwoofer (RCA style) cable from the Subwoofer Pre-out on the back of the Denon receiver to the Line In on this subwoofer.

Yes, it should be fine, use a quality RCA cable. I have this with the Polk RM7 set and it makes all the difference in the sound.

Yes, this sub will work with A/V receivers with a single sub out jack. You connect the sub out from your receiver to one of the sub's input jacks and leave the other open. My Yamaha is connect like that.
james f  Dec 22, 2013

Yes, you can wire the sub with just one phone plug. I believe that a subwoofer is mono anyway. You can also run speaker wire from the right/left speaker to the sub as well.
