Polk makes it easy to integrate the PSW10 with your existing system. You can hook your receiver up to the sub either through the line-level or the speaker-level connections. Features

Driver: The PSW10 uses a 10" Dynamic Balance polymer composite cone driver for deep, smooth response and low distortion. For longer excursion, the woofer uses a hi-roll foam surround.

Not Video Shielded: The subwoofer is not magnetically shielded, so it is not recommended to place it next to TVs and video monitors.

Amplifier: The subwoofer is powered by a high-current amplifier producing 50 watts RMS/100 watts dynamic power.

Enclosure: The PSW10 features non-resonant MDF construction with 3/4" baffle and internal bracing for deep bass impact with superior detail and accuracy.

3-Way Power Switch: The subwoofer has a 3-way power switch on the rear panel. You can select Auto, which turns the unit on automatically when an input signal is received and off a few minutes after the signal stops; On, which keeps the unit on until it is switched off, and Off, which turns the unit completely off (instead of placing it in a standby mode). The LED power indicator glows green when the unit is on and red when the unit is off.

Volume Control: The PSW10 has a rotary volume control to adjust the volume of the subwoofer relative to the other speakers in the system.

Phase Switch: The subwoofer's phase switch allows you to select normal or reverse. If the bass sounds muddy or unclear, toggling the phase control can sometimes strengthen the bass attack.

Low-Pass Filter: The PSW10 offers a continuously variable low-pass filter, adjustable from 80-160 Hz. Note: The manual incorrectly lists the frequency range as 80-200Hz.

Inputs and Outputs Notes

Line Inputs: The subwoofer has gold plated left and right RCA Line Level inputs. These inputs are for use with electronics featuring stereo pre-amp line outputs or an LFE subwoofer output. If your receiver or processor only has a single subwoofer line output, either the left or right input jack can be used.

Note: If the filtered Low Frequency Effects (LFE) output of an A/V receiver or processor is connected to the PSW10's line inputs, low frequency signals will be filtered by the A/V receiver/processor and the PSW10. When this happens the PSW10's low-pass filter setting should be as high as possible (160Hz) to minimize the interaction between the filters.

Speaker Level Input/Output: The subwoofer has spring clips for the speaker level input and output. The subwoofer's low-pass filter takes the low frequencies (based on the setting of the filter) and passes a full-range signal out to the speakers. This is the recommended method of connecting the subwoofer with a Polk Audio RM-series Home Theater speaker package and other satellite speaker systems.

Specification Note

Frequency Response: The overall frequency response for the subwoofer is 35-200 Hz, and the -3 dB frequency response is 40-160 Hz.

Warranty Notes

Amplifier: The warranty on the amplifier is 3 years parts and labor.

Driver: The warranty on the driver is 5 years parts and labor.

Customer Q&A

Q
I have a Denon AVR-S760H receiver that uses 75 watts. I need to add a subwoofer and I am considering the Polk PSW10. However, I noticed it only has 50 watts rms power. It does have 100 watts dynamic power. Would this work or do I need to find a sub with at least 75 watts rms power?
brian  May 30, 2023
1 answer
A
Thank you for your question, Brian. Your Denon has a subwoofer output that allows you to connect a powered subwoofer like this model from Polk Audio. The Polk Audio has a built-in amp and will not take power from your Denon home theater receiver, so 50 watts RMS is what the Polk Audio PSW10 is going to output.

Q
what would be a good match with the Polk PSW10 that I can use for front facing Wall speakers and rear satellites?
bryan  May 05, 2023

If you are setting up a 5.1 home theater system with your PSW10 subwoofer Bryan, I would be happy to help! For a small, wall mounted option that is packed with performance I suggest the Definitive Technology ProMonitor 800 in the first link below for your left and right mains and your surround speakers. These can be wall mounted and are very flexible on placement, a great call for performance. Use the Definitive Technology ProCenter 1000 center channel in the second link for a perfectly matched system! https://www.crutchfield.com/p_735PMON8B/Definitive-Technology-ProMonitor-800-Black.html https://www.crutchfield.com/p_735PCTR1KB/Definitive-Technology-ProCenter-1000-Black.html

I have Onkyo av receiver TxSr -393whether will it work for the same? I have Polk speakers 5 of them
seshagirirao  Apr 22, 2023
1 answer
A
The Polk PSW10 would work well with your current Onkyo receiver and speaker setup, Seshagirirao. I would also order the Ethereal Series 2000 mono subwoofer cable in the link below as you will need one to connect to your Onkyo, and there is not one included with the subwoofer. The Polk subwoofer is an excellent way to add some deep bass to your system, a great choice! https://www.crutchfield.com/p_120AS2010/Ethereal-Series-2000-10-feet.html

Q
Will the auto off function kick in on low level volume or only when completely void of all signal?
gary  Dec 11, 2022
1 answer
A
The subwoofer only turns off after 15 minutes without any signal. This should not be an issue with low volume levels.
zachary  Dec 11, 2022 (Staff)
Q
Using the speaker level inputs - Are the speaker output amplified ? Is the speaker control strictly for the sub or also controlling the speakers as well ? Thanks
dee  May 04, 2022
1 answer
A
I'm pretty sure the controls are strictly for the subwoofer not the speakers. Your amp controls the speakers

Q
Is this sub weather resistant?
aziz  May 06, 2021
3 answers
A
Definitely not. It would be a mistake (and a shame) to put this fine sub into an environment unprotected from the weather. So, while it shines performing its specialty, it does count on you for protection from weather extremes.
kelly  May 07, 2021
A
No. This sub is designed for indoor use. I would not recommend deploying it in an outdoor, or even sheltered outdoor environment. Check out the Polk Atrium Sub100 for outdoor use.
robert  May 06, 2021
A
don't think so, not built for outdoor weather, unless you live somewhere, where is doesn't rain or snow

What tv will this work with because I had to buy different soundbar and bass speaker for our 80 in . What tv brand is compatible with this brand Polk?
beth  Apr 02, 2021

This will work with any TV or system which has a subwoofer output signal. You should be able to google if your TV or future TV has a subwoofer signal. If so, this is a great subwoofer for the price.

Adding to home stereo, will this improve bass response through headphones?
danny  Mar 02, 2021

A
no sure, don't think so, it's great with the surround sound
bob  Mar 02, 2021
A
I can't say that I've noticed any difference through the headphones; but, that may depend on the amplifier.
mark  Mar 02, 2021
A
This won't improve the bass response through headphones as it's a completely different speaker source. This sub will improve the overall bass response of the speaker system that it is a part of.

I can't give you a precise answer because I didn't test it. I can say that my subwoofer sits about two feet from my LED TV and has never caused any interference.

Q
Would this work for a home recording studio setup on the a computer?
christopher  Jan 15, 2021

The typical home recording studio designed to work through a computer is looking for Pro Audio speakers and subwoofers. I recommend contacting an advisor by calling 1-800-324-9695 to get help building a recording studio using a computer.

A
Don't know. I only use mine on my Yamaha A/V stereo receiver in master bedroom. Sounds great in there !
jim  Jan 30, 2021
A
It could, as long as you have a line level feed out from your audio interface. This unit has a built in crossover so you would want your other speakers to not duplicate the same frequencies that the subwoofer is. To do a home recording studio right you'll want to equalize all your speakers so the frequency response is as flat as possible. That will help ensure that you can mix with sonic accuracy and the mix will translate well to other playback devices.
chris m  Jan 29, 2021
A
It is only going to work if the feed (cable) to it is off a receiver/amplifier with subwoofer jack(s).

Q
Im having some serious "chuffing" with this sub during real lows, such as when watching Tenet. What am I doing wrong? Is this a setting issue, a location issue? Things improved when I turned down the "volume" very low, but this has obvious drawbacks. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
stuart  Jan 12, 2021
2 answers
A
By "chuffing" I'm assuming you mean the speaker is bottoming out. You may be overdriving the speaker, either with too much volume or your EQ settings are sending frequencies too low for the speaker to duplicate accurately. Doing either can force the speaker excursion beyond what it is capable of and can eventually cause the speaker to fail. If it is happening under normal conditions then the speaker may have already been damaged.
chris m  Mar 02, 2021
A
Your sub might have a defect. I own two of these and have played both of them loud and low enough to rattle the house without experiencing what you're describing. I don't have any technical knowledge about how subs work, but I keep the volume and low pass dials set in the middle and use the bass control on my amp or receiver to adjust for different sources, and I have been pleased with the results. Sorry I can't be more helpful. Good luck.

I'd like to help get the info you need, but I don't have a scale. I lifted it and can only give you an estimate of the weight. I say it's about 15 - 20 lbs. It's a great sub-woofer, even at lower volumes. Hope that helps at least a little! Thanks, Al

I've had a failed Polk subwoofer for years (no power, regardless of breaker), unfixable. It basically serves as an ugly end table. Are the new Polk subwoofers any more reliable than the crappy old ones? Are they cheap for a reason?

I sincerely doubt it. I'm sure there's a converter you can buy. Otherwise buy the Polk subwoofer that is. See the website.

Does this sub connect to the receiver using a standard subwoofer cable (rca's on each end)? Why does it have L & R rca input jacks?
bob  Oct 09, 2018

rca
jose  Jun 25, 2019
A
Yes, you can use a regular cable. Good question on the R and L because Iirc, it doesn't matter which one you use. If you have additional questions, don't hesitate to ask.
derek t  Oct 09, 2018
A
Many audio amplifiers are not equipped with a single (L & R channels combined) subwoofer output, and require subwoofers with seperate channel inputs. Since subs with separate inputs electronically combine the channels internally, you should be able to connect your single sub output to either of the subwoofer's RCA inputs (L or R) and achieve the desired result. Or if you'd rather, you can use an RCA "Y" connector/splitter cable and feed both subwoofer inputs from your single output.
randy  Oct 09, 2018
A
Standard connectors GREAT UNIT ?????
daniel  Oct 09, 2018
A
Yes, it has a regular rca connection. My particular received had two outputs for the sub L and R but I believe you can just use one. The reason for the L and R is in case your receiver doesn't have a sub output, you can connect both sides and there are high powered outputs to connect speakers to directly on the sub that are crossed over.
