Add impact to your favorite movies and full-bodied bass to your favorite tunes with a sub that's barely larger than a cubic foot. The PSW111's high-current, 150-watt amp effortlessly drives an 8" woofer for dynamic low-frequency effects. And this compact subwoofer sports a new, more powerful driver design to deliver deeper, louder, and punchier bass than previous Polk subs. Special circuitry inside the amp and a solid MDF cabinet with internal bracings ensure clean, detailed lows, even when you crank up the volume.
From the review Polk PSW111 Ultra-compact Powered Subwoofer: From sub-par to sub-lime
"But the overwhelming sense I had from early listening was one of warmth. The low mid-range, the place where male voices, cellos, and trombones live, suddenly came alive. I could hear all this ambience I wasn't hearing before in movies and TV shows street noises, intakes of breath, footsteps. Sure, you could take this sub to the slamming max if you want, but the main takeaway I have from adding this component into my system is that things have been put into balance again."
Woody Sherman, Crutchfield A/V writer
A powered subwoofer gives you bass you can feel as well as hear. Our customers love the depth and impact their subs add to music and movies. We hear comments like "it brings out sounds I didn't know existed in discs I've watched a million times." Powered subwoofers aren't just for big bass that rattles your picture frames; they can also deliver tight, accurate lows. If you haven't shopped for a powered sub in a while, you might be surprised at how small they get. Look for an ultra-compact model if you want to tuck your sub away under an end table or in a corner.
good subwoofer for the price
Nice addition to my stereo. I got it free with a pair of Polk Audio TSx330t floor speakers. Adds the lows that the speakers don't and makes the stereo sound great. I don't keep it turned up too much, just enough to keep the bass nice and "punchy", but not overwhelming. I can shake the house if I turn it up, but that's not what I like for my music.
Pros: Nice and compact footprint, but full sound. Many wiring options, volume control and variable crossover. The price was hard to beat too, free!
When looking to add more bass to my music listening station,
I decided to buy this sub because it has a small footprint, it has speaker level inputs/outputs and the reviews and price point were good.
I needed a sub to compliment a pair of Cambridge Audio SX-50 speakers I bought from Crutchfield that would also work with my vintage Marantz receiver.
My receiver has no sub or line out an only two pairs of speaker level outputs (Main & Remote) which can be ran independently or together in parallel using selector push buttons on my receiver, thus allowing me to add this sub with no issues and without compromising sound and volume quality off main speakers.
Reading some reviews here I can tell people are cranking these louder than they should. A subwoofer should not be overwhelming when on but noticeable when switched off from main speakers.
The bass is more than enough for my small apartment, in fact, low pass is set to zero and volume level is just below midway point.
This is enough to compliment the main speakers nicely.
Pros: Small footprint able able to be hidden easily. Features Speaker level ins/outs Good lows Good price
Cons: Not a big deal but the volume and low pass pots are really sensitive and rotate effortlessly, in fact too effortlessly. Something rubbed against knobs while installing it and that was enough to change the volume level I had set before sliding into place.
I probably should not complain since this sub was free with the Blackstone TL250's I purchased but I expected more based on the reviews here. After allowing for break in and running Audyssey I only achieved a slight improvement in sound and have had to use the gain to compensate considerably for the lack of output. While looking for answers in home theater forums I found that Polk Subs have a poor reputation for their performance (unlike their speakers). I will be replacing mine with something different as soon as I can afford a better sub. I recommend researching these in several places before you buy. Crutchfield has better subs in their inventory that will improve your home theater experience over this for not much more money. This sub is for smaller rooms only with satellites that play low frequencies well. In my opinion the PSW111 combined with the Polk TL250's sound thin when playing music tracks with a bass guitar or bass drum. My usage is 60/40 between movies and music (Rock, Jazz, classical) and it looks like I need to spend more money to get a balanced sound.
Pros: Looks nice and easy to place due to compact size.
Cons: Poor output for anything but very small rooms (less than 12 x 12). Polk claims plays down to 37hz but I hear nothing until about 80hz with my crossover in my receiver set at 120hz and the sub crossed at its highest.
great sound really love it. so warm
Great sub - but I learned more about the sub sound setup to my receiver from my receiver owners manual than the PSW111 owners manual.
Pros: Great sound
Cons: Weak manual.
Installing my own surround sound system. This subwoofer has all the thunder needed and more for our space. Good quality. Easy to set up.
Great product. I was very happy to find such a quality subwoofer that was also universal voltage, which was the majority of the selling point for me. I am very happy with the sound it produces. It's only an 8 inch, so don't expect it to produce the very low range with any force, but otherwise I am very happy with it!
Pros: Universal voltage; good power; very compact
great sound. I couldn't expect more
Pros: price and quality
This is paired with a 200 watt RMS Martin Logan subwoofer for a 7.2 setup, works great.
Pros: works great in a 7.2 setup with a Martin Logan subwoofer.
I listen to mostly rock and classical and this is a very nice powered subwoofer for my use. Good adjustments for frequency and volume.
Pros: Good, quality sound with ability to adjust the sound.
We ordered 5 MC80 speakers for our pre-wired setup and got this sub for free on a promotion. The whole setup works great for us and we're really happy with the sound quality and amount of bass this thing puts out. Great Buy!!!
This sub is one of the most compact enclosures you'll find for the driver size. This also means your bass won't be as rumbly or boomy. If you listen to a standing bass playing its deepest note, you'll miss the sound of the body rumbling a bit, unless you turn the gain way up, thereby making drum kicks too pronounced. You can drive this guy loud and it will keep a punchy tightness, however. It's a crisp, poppy bass that holds up at high volumes, but missing a bit on the low end (for my taste). The build quality is there in the back panel and enclosure. If I had more room I might have opted for a Klipsch, but I'm pretty happy with this woofer, and the price is very competitive. Another plus is the connectivity options you get.
Pros: Build quality, price, connectivity, one of the most compact units in it's class.
Cons: Low end lacking a bit for my taste.
At first I wasn't sure if this little sub would be big enough for my living room, but this thing is perfect. I have it paired with the Polk black stone speakers and a Yamaha advantage receiver. I found in this application if you turn the amp just a little over halfway and set the low pass filter at 120 it will pick up the lows right where the little black stones let off.
Pros: Compact size Powerful amp Fully adjustable
Cons: None yet
I got this subwoofer as part of a special with a set of Polk TL250's. Great sound. Fills room with good bass & not boomy. Sleek looks compliment the other speakers.
Pros: Price, Sound, Size
I have the (255C-RT) and in walls (RC55i's) and 2 Polk Subs (PSW 108 and 111) for a 7.2 effect. It's a great combo for the size of room I have!
This little guy is pretty capable. I'm not interested in cracking plaster and shattering windows; I just wanted to fill out the low end to complement my inexpensive Polk T50 main speakers, in a very "live" 15x20 room with hardwood floors and a large picture window.
With the crossover set low-ish, amplitude at about half, and somewhat sub-optimal (see what I did there?) placement in a bookshelf, it delivers surprisingly tight sound. Plenty of headroom for my modest needs, and affords lots of placement and hookup options. Gives Stanley Clarke and Victor Wooten some presence without requiring me to dispense with an end table to make room for it.
Pros: Very versatile and compact. Satisfyingly controlled sound.
Cons: It wasn't free.
This was purchased to complement a set of Polk Blackstone speakers in a 30'x15' home theater. In hindsight, I might have stepped up to the next larger subwoofer model, but the 111 is sufficient in this space. What helps the subwoofer work in the larger environment is it's working on a hardwood floor over a basement, so the room is more resonant than if it had carpeting over a cement slab. The 111 is a nicely effective unit for a small room, but if you're in a larger area, I would consider stepping up.
Pros: - Great for a small room - Lots of sound adjustment options - Attractive design
Cons: - Will struggle in a large room with negative environmental factors
My 6 year old 8 inch Mirage sub died, this looked like a similar size and performing replacement. The sub works really well, I really love it for music. It also is capable for movies but does not rattle the windows. Overall, I'm happy, it was on sale at Crutchfield and the service from them was very good as usual.
Pros: Small, good music quality.
This little sub does an amazing job of filling out the bottom end of a 2.1 system with small bookshelf or mini-monitor type speakers. Super easy to connect and set up. The crossover point can be adjusted high enough to help with the mid-bass too, if needed. In a medium sized living room it easily produces clean, punchy bass that extends low enough for most audio recordings. For a large room or music or movies that have a lot of very low bass something larger might be needed, but considering its size and price this sub really delivers the goods.
This little guy blew away the 12" I had ordered. I ended up mating it with a 505 and couldn't be happier. Getting it "free" provides awesome value as well.
Pros: A lot of sound for the size.
i bought this for my daughters room with a pair of pro studio monitor 1000s and a audio engine amp it sounds great
Pros: great sound good price good value for the money
Cons: no complaints
Got this subwoofer to use in a basement man cave application. Has deep rich base and a nice tight response. Fills my moderate sized room easily.
Pros: Appearance, performance, price
Cons: May not fill a truly large room.
The sub was given away with my purchase of 6 Polk 620 RT speakers. I was excited to receive the sub because I needed one and I was able to get this one at no cost. Once I connected the speakers and the sub I was disappointed. The sub rattles as the volume increases and when the volume is low you can barely tell it's on. I'm very disappointed, where I thought I was saving, I'm not because now I have to go out and buy a sub to compliment my speakers.
Nice smaller sized subwoofer that sounds great.
Years ago I purchased a sub-woofer from another company and it had a constant background hum which drove me crazy. Got rid of that and never thought about buying another sub-woofer. I was lucky enough to get this Polk sub for free w/purchase of my Polk Audio 80 F/X-LS speakers. Perfect for low key improvement for your bass but not a room shaker.
Pros: Good compromise with the wife.
Cons: Maybe too weak for some.
nice bass im very thrilled.
Pros: sounds great and got it free from tsx330t speakers happy.
Cons: nothing at all
My main system is in our finished basement, including a Velodyne sub. I bought this sub for my secondary system in our family room after reading the great reviews and having bought a set of great-sounding Polk Audio bookshelf speakers a few years ago. I was concerned that it wouldn't have enough power, since this room has a cathedral ceiling and opens into the kitchen area. However, it is just powerful enough to give a nice bottom end to music and movies without any boominess when I run it at max volume and at the minimum crossover frequency.
Pros: Sound, price, quality construction.
The best "free" sub I have ever got (with purchase). Thanks Polk
I honestly planned to buy a new powered subwoofer for my garage stereo system but received this one free with the purchase of a set of TSX floor standing speakers. What a surprise to get such a well made, great sounding product! Finish is high quality, was easy to set up and sounds amazing! Would buy this in a heart beat if I were in the market again.
Pros: Awesome punch Excellent control system, with standby mode
Well worth the deal
Pros: Came as a free deal with the speakers. Great sound quality and blends in beautifully with the TV stand.
Cons: not a thing.
This subwoofer sounds great and blends with my bookshelf speakers (3.5 inch midrange and a tweeter) seamlessly thanks to the volume and crossover controls. I use the high level (speaker wires) inputs so hooking up the sub was very easy and did not require an amp with a subwoofer output. My relatively low power amp and the PSW111 fills a room with great music and as much bass as you want, or just the right amount of clean natural sounding bass.
Pros: Great sounding bass, volume and crossover controls, auto on, and a choice of inputs including the high level (speaker wire). This sub woofer is smaller then one would expect from hearing its performance.
Cons: It is difficult to think of Cons. It cost a little more then I wanted to spend and it is larger than some of the really small subwoofers.
Great sound, plus I was able to time it right to get in for no extra cost as a package deal from Polk!
Pros: Not only does it sound perfect, it has some adjustments you can make for volume and frequency on the rear.
Replaced my old Polk PSW110 sub with this new PSW111. Great sound out of a compact box that I now can place strategically in the room. Nice job Polk
Pros: Great Crisp Bass. Compact box
This is a top-notch subwoofer -- world well in all aspects. Not only does it help bring music videos and recordings to life as you would expect a good subwoofer to do, it also helps when you're watching a movie with a bunch of guys talking low. You won't have to crank the volume just to tell what they're saying. This subwoofer brings those frequencies through loud and clear.
Pros: Nice small size for a powerful subwoofer.
Cons: You will need to know (or learn) how to properly set up a subwoofer through your amp for it to work properly. At first I as getting no sound through the subwoofer even though the display showed a signal for it. By accessing the on-screen programming for the amp, I saw that the volume level for the subwoofer was set as low as it could go (possibly because a subwoofer had not been attached before). Once that was corrected -- it has been fantastic.
WOW is a great way to describe this Sub Woofer-maybe wired makes the difference
Pros: Clean look-lays low & seems to be out of the eye but awesome sound
Cons: Plugged in so always appears to be on? (bulb always lit) concerned its effect on the life of the unit & always warm to the touch.
Polk Audio delivers as usual. I purchased this unit for my living room to support my 5.1 surround paired with a Denon X4000. I have the larger Polk subwoofer in my home theater room and this small woofer sounds just a good, very impressed with the sound quality and level of bass based on the small foot print. This unit delivers great sound for both listening to TV and playing music.
Pros: Sound quality vs size
Pros: Great price
I installed these myself in our basement that we just finished, along with Polk Audio TSi100 bookshelf speakers, Polk Audio RC80i in-celiing speakers and a Polk Audio Center Channel 255c-RT connecting to a Yahama receiver. It sounds awesome!! If you are an audiophile, you can probably pick a few things apart, but for everyday use in a basement TV area it came together great.
Although the bass from the subwoofer is less impactful than I thought it would be, it still adds something with the rest of the speakers I setup. I would definitely buy all Polk again.
Pros: Small, looks good.
Cons: Less bass then I expected.
I was worried this subwoofer would not be enough for my large room, I shouldn't have, sounds great with my Polk Audio TSx330T. Music and movies are so much better when with speakers that make you feel like you are there.
Pros: Great sound with small footprint.
We needed a small subwoofer due to space limitations. We had Polk Audio home theatre speakers in our last house, so we decided to give this this one a shot. Extremely happy with the sound and punch of the bass - provides a much bigger sound than you'd think for a small cabinet. Definitely recommend if you need a smaller subwoofer.
Pros: Samll footprint; very large sound; looks good with our decor.
Cons: None at this time.
Not amazing but very good for the price.
I purchased this sub as a supplement to my old Adcom stereo system with Klipsch speakers and Boston bookshelves. Of course the addition made a substantive addition. The cost was right and hook up was easy.
Pros: Cost, ease of hooking up, and great sound.
Picked up this very nice compact little Polk Audio Subwoofer on sale to add to my two-channel music system and don't know why I waited so long. Rated at 150 watts, It provides just the bass boost I needed and really complements the JBL towers nicely. It gets low enough in the frequency range to handle most of the music in my library including some pretty challenging classical and jazz. Don't really listen to a great deal of hip-hop so super thumping bass isn't a requirement. This provides some very accurate sounding bass response. Recommended.
Pros: Small footprint; very good low frequency response; nicely priced.
I purchased this Polk sub-woofer after my several-years-old one died. My choice was based on previous reviews and Polk didn't let me down. All I have to know is that it sounds great with my system. My wife (who doesn't ever comment on stuff like this) remarked how much better, well-rounded, the sound is now. Good enough for me!
Pros: Great sound Good price Small footprint
Cons: none, really
Well built and attractive housing. The "auto turn on" is a great feature without dealing with switches.
the product is great, got a good discount at Crutchfield, and got excellent customer service.which, unfortunately, i needed. the instructions on how to connect the Subwoofer that come in the box are confusing -- which is bad enough -- and the picture of the back of the subwoofer in the instructions is different from what is present on the subwoofer. When i brought this up to the very helpful customer service agent at Crutchfield, he said that they had repeated complained of this same issue to Polk, and, until now, they have been ignored. This is unacceptable
Pros: Great product, great discounted price, and great customer service from Crutchfield which, unfortunately, i needed.
Cons: Inexcusably confusing instructions from Polk, to say nothing of the inaccurate schematic of the back part of the subwoofer in the instructions.
Sub-Woofer is the perfect fit for my component surround system. Dimensions fit well within the newly designed console cabinet. This sub-woofer replaces a 12 inch system, which gave a bit more base, but was not an internally powered unit. The output quality exceeds my expectations for the size of the speaker. Can't rate five stars until I've owned and operated it for a while.
Pros: Compact dimensions and quality of sound. Well priced and delivery was very quick.
Cons: None found for this size of speaker.
good price, fast delivery. it delivered the sound i hoped it would.
Pros: easy to install with my receiver that had no separate sub output.
Cons: none found.
Great subwoofer! I purchased this to use with an Audio Source Amp100 amplifier and Polk T15 bookshelf speakers. I had just the bookshelf speakers set up for a week and wasn't happy with the low end sound. This subwoofer worked perfect for my needs and with my setup. I have it connected via the speaker line level inputs with the T15 bookshelf speakers hooked up to the line level outs. The system is set to 90hz crossover and the volume turned up just past the halfway mark. The system now sounds amazing and provides a full rich sound.
Pros: speaker line level inputs, small size, looks
Great product, great price, fast delivery- everything I have known about and expected from Crutchfield in the past continues!
Pros: Great fit for my new system - I bought a home in FL that had speakers in the ceiling from the original owner, I just had to add a sub-base unit. I ordered online and received the unit in a few days. Perfect!
pretty nice little sub for small room applications. good for music, but not sure how well i would fare with movie soundtracks. also good if your home happens to share any walls with neighbors...will not shake the floorboards. nice, tight, clean bass for music. sounds very good in my 2.1 system. maybe if you use two for a small home theatre. nice price, nice sound, good looks and no complaints so far. can't give 5 stars yet unitl I see how long it lasts...only had for about a month.
Pros: good looks, good size for easy placement, clear controls, nice tight bass for music, good price.
Cons: not sure, but may not hold up well with modern movie soundtracks. asking a small eight to do the job required of a twelve.
It is amazing to hear what the psw 111 does when it's called upon. We had to replace a old sub and my wife wanted to "reduce our audio footprint" in our living room. Well..the psw 111 does it right, I can really put it almost anywhere and it performs better than the previous sub. We both are very pleased with the purchase. It's great to see a company like Polk think outside the box and not loose focus on quality. The ordering and delivery was as always easy and delivery went as promised. Happy anniversary, Crutchfield! I look forward to my next purchase
Pros: Great sub, minimal in size, easy to place in room, very controlled sound, blends well with pre existing speakers
Cons: None found
A read several reviews of a compact Denon shelf system. Many of the reviewers mentioned that they had added a subwoofer, which had greatly enhanced their listening experience. I bought the compact Polk Audio subwoofer based on its size, my happy past experience with Polk Audio speakers and the fact that it was a product selected by Crutchfield.
Pros: I had to fit the speaker into a very small spot. It fit perfectly. It certainly was easy to install. Most of all, it added greatly to the sound performance of my compact Denon player. In fact, I marvel at how the entire system adds up to so much more than one should expect.
As a result of remodeling the family room, my Polk Audio S10 towers were replaced with Bouston Acoustic CR65 bookshelf speakers. To provide the missing bass, I purchased the PSW111 - couldn't be happier. When first installed, I set the PSW111 low pass filer control to 12 o'clock position and the volume control to 9 o'clock. The resulting bass was strong and deep, but a some what boomy. Over the next few weeks I adjusted the controls a few times, so that now the low pass filter is at the 10 o'clock (90Hz) position and the volume control just shy of 9 o'clock. Now I've got solid tight bass, perfectly balanced with my bookshelf speakers.
Our family room is half of a 14'x35' addition with vautted ceilings - the other half is dining room. Both rooms open up onto our large eat-in kitchen. The bookshelf speakers are driven by an AudioSource AMP100 power amp. This set-up supplies room(s) filling great sound that makes me happy. And my wife is pleased with the aesthetics, now that the Towers are gone!
Pros: Great quality sub-woofer at a reasonalbe price.
This is a perfect addition for my system. The power sub is not complicated to hook up and adjust. It really enhance the sound quality of my system. I only use it for music and I don't need a big thumping bass. The size is perfect for my listening area and one important thing, the price is right. Over time, I will find out if it is durable.
Pros: Compact size. Easy to hook up. Right amount of bass for my music system.
Cons: Can't think of any at this time.
I bought it to complement a pair of series VI speakers missing the "boombox" in an international move, paired with 901 speakers. They ALL sound so much better now, filled in the gaps beautifully in a living room with hardwood floors and cathedral ceilings.
Pros: Matches my set up perfectly (according to my ears, what else matters?)
Cons: None that I have found.
big boom for the buck, put it between a new yamaha R-S201 receiver and 39 year old avid speakers in my garage, clear bass on joe bonamassa cd has the millennials across the street asking for volume control!
Pros: small, rugged build, no distortion, great bass, bought thru scratch and dent outlet but found neither.
It arrived promptly after I ordered it. It was very easy to install. Because my left and right speakers were deficient in bass, I needed something to add bass. The Polk Audio woofers do an excellent job and now I can enjoy excellent audio from my I-Mac computer. In particular, organ music now sounds wonderful.
Pros: Ease of installation and excellent sound quality.
Cons: It is expensive, but on the other hand, you get what you pay for.
The bass is accurate and tight, but underpowered. I replaced a definitive technology supercube which was smaller and made the house shake during my action flicks, but the lower quality amp died.
Pros: Compact size. Excellent power saving feature, and speaker inputs.
Currently, some can seek for minimal visual impact and good audio. If these are your intent, BOOM!!! The polk PSW 111 meet all requirements. The sound is good, cleres by its internal 150w amp.
Pros: Minimal visual impact, good bass
For me this sub was free as part of a promotional deal with Polk. I was not expecting much out of this especially considering it's size but it is rather impressive. It is small enough to be hidden just about anywhere and would make a great upgrade to a smaller system. For the price you can get much larger subs with more output but I think for it's size and price you would be hard pressed to find something much better than this. Do not expect miracles from a 8" sub and you will not be disappointed.
Pros: Very compact! well made, great output for it's size.
Cons: A little pricey for the output you get.
This subwoofer amazed me in the first few minutes of having it on. It sounds so natural in the room. It really hits the lows when the movie or music calls for it but most importantly it fills in that gap of sound that my other speakers can reach. Best subwoofer I've ever owned.
Pros: It has a pretty small footprint for such a nice subwoofer.
Bass sounds great for such a small sub.
Pros: Bass is awesome!!
I was looking to supplement the low end bass for a 2.1 system I put together for a medium sized den. I had a SONOS CONNECT feeding a pair of Audioengine A5+ self-powered speakers. I wanted a sub-woofer that would integrate well with the bookshelf sized speakers, and provide tight, musical bass. I was less concerned with sheer power, and wanted accurate bass. The PSW111 gave me that in a smallish package that I can easily hide in the room. The match is seem less. The sound is clean and clear.
Pros: Small size, good price, clean sound.
Cons: If you are looking for house shaking loudness, look elsewhere.
This is the first time I've used a subwoofer in a system but am extremely pleased with the size and sound of this speaker. I mainly use it as part of a theatre system.
Pros: Small size and powerful base
The tight sound of this powered sub=woofer is a pleasure to listen to. I love sub-woofers and this one did not disappoint.
Pros: Very easy to understand hook-up alternatives. I have yet to find the time to fine tune the woofer with the other speakers, but am impressed with the sound as is.
Does a nice job for the price. I use it in a pretty small room (10x12), at near max volume. I suspect it would get lost in a much larger space. Tends to be a bit boomy at the lowest Hz. But overall I am pleased.
I got two of these bad boys for a 20' X 17' media room project. (powered by the Yamaha Aventage RX-A730 (90W X 7, 7.2) I was a little skeptical at first going with the 8" sub (I prefer 10" or 12") but I gambled on the positive reviews provided on this site. Let me tell you this pair absolutely THUMPS the room when I power up the system. I'm talking recliner shaking, light dimming, floor bouncing power. Yet amazing enough, they are gentle enough to provide nice everyday listing with appropriate bass levels with just a few quick tweaks. I have the X-over set at the low end range to focus on the deepest tones (personal preference). Apparently, good things can come in small packages. Great job Polk. These units are fabulous.
Pros: - Substantial, powerful bass from a very small package. - Clean, nice look. - Easy, quick connections via sub cables. - Auto on/off - power saving.
Cons: Absolutely nothing.
Definitely as good and probably better than I expected. This small sub has plenty of bass for my small living room. I was a little concerned reading some of the reviews about it not having much oomph. For my situation, both movies and music I don't need it turned all the way up and I can get some very heartfelt bass. Most situations so far I like it set just a hair above 50%, so for me it has plenty of adjustability. Sound quality is pretty clear also.
Works great with my TSx440T floor speakers.
This small compact sub really brings the boom. It's really the cherry on top to any home theater. Bass is tight and loud and integrates nicely with my other polk speakers. Explosions will be felt and cars will feel as if they are rumbling through you living room. No matter if this is a stand alone purchase or received free when buying qualifying polk speakers this is a no brainer. Add this to your HT Right away.
Pros: Great price especially when received free with other polk speaker purchase Tight loud bass Easily integrated with other speakers
I was going to use a sub I already had but why would you when you can get a new one for free. This sub sounds great with the speaker setup I installed.
Pros: Being as small as it is it still puts out a good amount of bass.
I found it to be too weak.I had to return it.The sound quality was fine.
Cons: Too weak
This speaker adds the low sounds to your viewing pleasure. At first I though it wasn't powerful enough, so I turned it all the way up. Wow! was that too much bass. I had to play with the volume control. Just turn it up a little and listen. Now I forget about it. You can tell when there's low bass. A nice clean sound. I bought the scratch and dent speaker. Only the box was scratched and dented. The speaker was fine. No scratches. I like that the speaker goes into standby when you are listening to a program with a low volume setting.
Pros: Adds the low bass.
Excellent product, the perfect suggestion as replacement for an old and worn out sub. Works perfectly with my Denon receiver and Polk Blackstone speakers, even for the larger room I have.
Had a sony replaced with the psw111 huge difference.
I purchased this sub to complete a surround sound system I was building with 4 MC80 in ceiling speakers and a TL3 center channel. I was not looking for a lot of bass and this sub was recommended to me. I believe it fills out the amount of bass I need and definitely rounds out the system. I have been using it with the volume only half to three quarters from full. If you are looking for a sub that will rattle your wall this might not work but if you are looking for something to round out your system I believe this unit is ideal.
Pros: perfect size and enough bass for me
Cons: If you are looking for a lot of bass you may need another sub
awesome deal...powerfull sub.... great quality ...
Pros: great bass..
compact enough to be unobtrusive but with big value results
Pros: great results for the price
Cons: only comes in black
I purchased two subwoofers, since OI am listening to classical music, opera, etc. The price of two was the same as a passive in-wall subwoofer + amplifier. With my Sony 7.2 I enjoy great music.
Pros: Great sound Compact, fits under the on-wall TV cabinet Easy to install
I love it with the sound,
Bought the scratch and dent and it was new!! Excellent Performance for a small subwoofer. Had an Infinity 12" before and doesn't notice the difference.
Pros: small, great bass, easy to set
The sub sounds great - plenty of oomph for a small sub. Due to a built in entertainment center and my wife's disdain for wires I had to set it up wireless. I bought a Rockfish sub transmitter/receiver kit and this allowed me to position the sub under an end table with no visible wires. It actually sounds great in this location off to the side of the couch. I am using it with a Yamaha TSR675 receiver and B&O 865 front speakers and a Polk Audio 250C center. An odd combo that sounds great.
Pros: Able to set it up wireless. Deep base in a large room.
Cons: PSW111 is always powered on with Rockfish that is also always on. Cannot control this with receiver.
Small, not very loud. Good product
PLENTY OF BASS FOR MUSIC AND MOVIES!Very Pleased!
Bought this sub because I was on a tight budget and it had a 150w amp verses only a 100w amp that came with the Polk Audio PSW110. My thinking was that even though it was smaller because it had a larger amp it would produce more bass. I was disappointed. At normal listening levels I couldn't even tell it was on unless I went over to the unit and put my hand on it. I suppose it would be ok for a very small room to add some depth to small bookshelf speakers. I'm going to return unit and wait until I save up more money for a larger unit.
Pros: Small size, doesn't take up much space
Cons: Small size, doesn't produce much bass
This is a highly impressive sub regardless of what price range you're looking in or which woofer size you're initially shopping for. The bass is clear, there's no distortion & the sound is amazingly warm. I wouldn't characterize myself as an audiophile, but I'm an enthusiast who's purchased numerous systems over the past ~20 years. This was my first 8 inch sub & I honestly didn't expect this much punch.
I purchased my first PSW111 ~18 months ago & paired it with a Polk surroundbar (5 channel). I went with this sub because it was small & fit nicely in the corner behind the stereo cabinet (completely out of sight). I wasn't looking for much rumble because it was the family room (wife & kids in there most of the time). The sub has always sounded great & feels like a 'no brainer' with any Polk soundbar or home theater package.
Last month I finally got my wife onboard with upgrading the basement theater (20 X 40 room). She insisted that I get rid of my giant 12 inch sub because she never liked looking at it (I paid about ~$1,000 for it 10 years ago & it's incredibly powerful). I decided to go with a 2 sub setup for the first time & tried out multiple 8 in dual side firing passive radiator designs (each ~3x more $ than the PSW111). I was underwhelmed. On a whim I brought the Polk downstairs to try it out. I was amazed that it near filled the room by itself & wasn't too much of a drop off from the 12 inch. I ended up buying 2 PSW111's & both music & movies sound great!
Pros: > Clear bass, no distortion (even at high volume) > Very small and easy to place in 'wife friendly' decor > Music sounds great (2 PSW111's in both front room corners sounded much better than the single 12 inch high quality sub that I had previously).
Cons: > Performs well for movies, but you don't 'feel' the bass as much as other large subs. Still sounds very good though and the trade off isn't too dramatic. The difference seems to be much less pronounced when we watch movies with our receiver's Dynamic EQ/Volume turned on.
Great sound, super price. Bought scratch and dent and the only thing I saw wrong with it was that the box was thrashed. The sub looked perfect.
Pros: Great sound from a reasonably small package.
Fair value at this price.
WOW! I got this to replace the broken bass module in a 20 yr old 3 piece speaker system. I should have done it years ago. This brings new life to music. On all types of music the bass comes out clean. It just rounds out the bottom. It's great when watching movies too.
Pros: great sound , easy to connect
Great sound. Very easy to install on my Marantz SR 5007
Pros: Great sound
Cons: A little larger than I expected
I loved the base that comes out of these sub, very powerful.
Cons: A little bigger than i expected.
I was stunned at what a real sub woofer sounds like. For five years the "surround sound" in our live-in RV turns out to be a really cheapo JVC...the teeny wires to the speakers should have alerted me. The sub woofer was just a speaker in a big box. Soon as I connected the PSW111 the biggest event was the smile on my wife's face. We have real sound, real music: Never heard the thump thump before. Yea!.
Pros: Sounds great. Fit our space.
This sub came with Polk Audio rear speakers I purchased from Crutchfield. My Polk Audio system is finally matched and the sub gives out great base.
Pros: Small foot print.
I replaced a Mirage 8 subwoofer that failed with this one. I have a mix of 2 Mirage Omni sat V2 FS for front speakers, Bose center channel speaker, 2 Bose 161 for surround and a Omni Nanosat for the Surround Back speaker. The Polk has blended in perfectly with the other speakers. All this is driven by a ONKYO TX SR 803 amp. This is a great speaker for the price. The room it is in is 21'X 27' with 9 Ft ceilings. I don't know yet if it will rattle the windows, but it suits me just fine.
Pros: Easy set up, blends well with Hybrid systems.
Cons: Haven't found it yet
I have it match with the satellite POLK TL-250 5 speakers system and a sounds great 100% satisfied . if i put a high capacity cant match are just exact sub woofer for this Polk thanks to Crutchfield for the recommendation . Crutchfield service was excellent ,they gave me follow up at my order and be sure that was deliver in execelnt conditions . thanks
good sub i use on movies mostly its got a good bottom end for its size does not bottom out if you set it right for the money its a overall good sub
Pros: good little sub
Great sound and easy set up
Pros: sound. connection options
Got this as part of a special deal with a set of Polk TL-350's. Part of a 5.1 surround system in a 14' X 20' family room. As other reviewers state, if you are feeling the need to blow the glass out of your windows, this probably isn't the right sub for you. If you want a nice balanced sub that provides a transparent bottom end to both movies and music in a relatively small room, this sub does nicely. Also, one of the most physically unobtrusive subs I have seen - about as "spouse friendly" a sub as you will find.
Pros: Small package, balanced sound
I am glad I did not upgrade to a larger sub. There is plenty of bass with this sub. I even have it in a room that is 28' X 18' with a 15' cathedral ceiling.. It is very easy to control the amount of base output on the back of the speaker. It works nicely with the RTI3A bookshelf speakers I purchased with the sub. I placed it behind our furniture about 15 feet away from the main speaker setup. The base sounds like it is coming right from the front setup. I believe it has the same amp power as the next upgrade that Crutchfield offers. I would recommend this sub from Polk highly and doing business with Crutchfield as a great experience.
Pros: A nice smooth and balanced sound. I like the fact that they use real wood. Easy to control the amount of bass output. The five year warranty is a real plus.
Cons: None so far
In my opinion, too many people want too much base which ultimately results in distortion and muddies the overall sound reproduction. However, many people just do not care about clear intelligibility and will sacrifice everything for that low end thump which typically distorts the sound. Unless you are in the fortune 500 category, you are not going to get that kind of feel or anything close at this units price range. This sub-woofer is compact and has a front projection speaker that is in a non-ported enclosure which really responds to the low end very good. With the level adjustment set properly, this Polk PSW111 provides quality base response with little or no distortion in a small to mid sized room. My room is a 20 x 24 foot room and the base is adequate for both TV and stereo reproduction. If you have a really large area, I think you will need to purchase a unit with enough wattage output to handle your specific area. Whether you utilize the LFE (Low Frequency Effects) lead off your receiver, or use independent adjustments when LFE does not exist, this unit sounds great. Just be careful when you are setting the sub-woofer and follow the instructions. For the price, I do not think this unit can be beat.
Pros: Compact with clear base quality and sound reproduction in a mid sized room. I would recommend to friend
since i purchased outdoor speakers, you would think they would give me an outdoor subwoofer also the subwoofer was damaged when received. since i can not use it anyway because of weather i was not going to take the time to mail back ..
This little guy puts out quite a punch for a lot less wattage than my old polk sub. Really nice if you are trying to have a minimal footprint. It think its a good one to pair with smaller satellite speaker setups.
Pros: *Small but powerful *Clean design *Easy to hide
Cons: *Good bass but not earth shattering but if you were looking for that you'd be getting a higher wattage/larger sub.
Sounds great for an 8"
Good for the price (free with 5 speaker set), but a bit under powered. Good for a small room, but I figure you should not expect much more from an 8" speaker. I like the adjustable controls for cross over and volume, which I seem to have to adjust with every movie.
There was a special deal on this subwoofer when I purchased the Polk Audio Blackstone TL250 system.....FREE! The sound is great and setup was a breeze. Because of the layout in my room, it was necessary to connect in a "non-traditional" way.....all the details were in the instructions and it was just a matter of minutes from box to movie time! My test DVD was the beach landing scene from "Saving Private Ryan"....simply amazing sound from this Polk System.
Pros: - Easy setup....multiple options based on your needs and room configuration - Great sound - Perfect complement to the TL250 speakers
Cons: - None
I can't speak to having this sub in a large room but for my 10X12 living room it is a perfect compliment to the energy surround speakers. I only have the volume at a little more than half and it provides a nice even sounding bass. I turned it up to 3/4 and it remains a nice clean output but can start to overpower the room. I needed something that would fit under my end table in the corner of the room this fit the bill perfectly.
Pros: Small but powerful, clean sounding bass. Price, bought open box.
I was really surprised at the bass this was able to produce. Now, I'm not trying to rattle the windows or anything, but I am very satisfied with the bass this compact little speaker can produce. Space was a concern as well as price. This sub fit perfectly and produces very well. It is important to read the installation instructions. I used the automatic microphone setup on my receiver and it totally ignored this sub. I had to manually set the front and surround speakers to the "small" setting instead of "large". Once that was set the sub was recognized and started working.
Pros: Small size and price. It produces good bass, complimenting the rest of the system I have.
Cons: It does not rattle the windows, so if you want bass loud enough to kill grass, this might not be the sub for you.
GREAT SUB. REPLACE KENWOOD SUB.THAT WAS 14 YRS. OLD. YOU CAN'T GO WRONG BUYING THIS SUBWOOFER.
Excellent product. Delivered quickly and on schedule. I will definitely but from Crutchfield again.
Pros: Great subwoofer. Pleanty of power and umph.
Paired this with Polk Blackstone TL250 speaker set and Yamaha RX-V373 receiver. Sound is amazing, and I don't even have it all the way up.
Pros: Sound, value
Great addition to home theater. Had issue with wrong power supply cord, Crutchfield remedy was immediate, great product support.
Pros: Plenty of added punch given size of unit.
I wanted a compact sub that isn't in the way, but delivers the bass! This sub really makes a presence, and granted it's only 8" you know it's there. If you want some deep notes its not for you, but if you want punch and substance to a mid range $ speaker setup you're good!
Pros: Hard hitting bass at mid range. Though it d
Cons: An 8" doesn't quite deliver the low notes a 12 does.
I bought a scratch and dent and the first one had power supply problems. Crutchfield sent out another sub right away and it worked better than expected. This sub replaced a 10 year old Sony that was no making the grade. A simple auto setup with my Denon AVR-1912 and the system is great! There is depth to the vocals and explosions in movies don't sound like the sub is exploding! Great product and excellent customer service!
Pros: Compact size, great sound.
Bought a 'display' model, when the product arrived I couldn't tell it had any prior defects, nicks or scratches. No problem connecting to my Denon AVR-591 sub-woofer pre-out to the right channel RCA input of the PA subwoofer. Our tv room/living room etc is small, 13ft wide by 18 long with the tv and audio equipment at one end. Unable to place subwoofer in the preferred location, next to front speakers, so I added 25ft subwoofer cable under house and drilled a (wife not happy) hole (small hole) through the hardwood floor for the connection. Manually setup the subwoofer on the Denon and put in my testing blu-ray, Top Gun. (no comments, I'm 61 yr old male acting like kid) Didn't hear anything at first, but..... wow, nearly jumped our of my chair. Great sound, love..... wife hasn't seen hole in floor yet though..
Pros: great sound, low price, easy setup
Got it for free with purchase of other Polk speakers from Crutchfield. Sounds great, plenty of power (I have it at about 1/2 output in a 15'x30' room), no distortion at reasonable volumes. Doesn't take up much space either.
Great addition to mancave bar room with pool table. My 14schedule year old son experimented with a wireless one we had elsewhere until we decided on this one. I, and more importantly, him, are completely satisfied.
No issues. Great sound. Exactly as advertised.
Pros: Great sound, high quality materials
Cons: None noted
First off, I was skeptical on how low in frequency this woofer could reproduce accurately. I have owned this unit for 6 months and have ran it through all its courses of 2.1 ch. music and 5.1 surround. Cut to the chase, I know a good sub when I hear one and I have a JL w6v2 in my car. This 8" has surprised me at how low it will play accurately. It really shines with music. It is just simply loud and powerful with music, I don't think you will be dissatisfied when this thing belts out kickdrums and bass lines with ease. Explosions from movies sound natural and not overbearing. The small footprint is great. With low level, LFE, and rca inputs you can run this with a home theater in a box or a dedicated receiver. Buy this for value, sound quality, and footprint!
Pros: EXTREME VALUE AND POWERFUL SOUND QUALITY
Cons: The port had come loose when shipped. It snapped right back in. FYI it doesn't come with rca nor LFE cable.
Adding the polk psw111 compact sub to my 2.1 channel system really brought the sound to life! The base punch add's so much depth to cd's and f.m. stereo. I couldn't be more satisfied with my purchase from crutchfield!
Pros: Compact size, easy set-up and adjustment's, alot of crisp, tight bass punch.
I am no audiophile but this subwoofer sounds great in our music room, was the perfect compact size. Great service from Crutchfield.
i have two of this littel bomb in a 12x20 home theater room with a 5.1 yamaha early from 17 years and its very impressive tight bass and good low bass
this is the final touch of my A/V Polk speaker collection, tower, surround and finally the compact subwofer. It may be compact in size and price but big on quality and sound, blending flawlessly into my system and giving the bottom end to my music.
I am inejoying the sound with music and movies. Great price and advice from my Crutchfield Rep.
Great sub for the money, fills the entire room.
My ood woofer died on me and I really missed my great sounding bass.. I bought this one at "scratch/dent.. It is perfect.. and the sound is great..!1 I am never disappointed with my purchases from Crutchfield!!
Pros: great sound from a little woofer
Upgraded from Panasonic HTiB 5.1 system. This came with a purchase of Polk RM87 speakers. I have it connected to an Onkyo TX-NR609 receiver and sounds great. Has more bass than I thought it would have for a small sub. I can't get it out of my head though to get a 12" sub with more power...maybe later. Good thing I got a receiver that can have 2 subs. This lil' sub does a superb job at whatever I throw at it and don't regret not getting a bigger sub for $50 more. I say, if you want to upgrade from the Wally world cheesy HTiB's, get this sub, you won't be disappointed.
Pros: plenty of punch
Cons: I personally want a bigger sub.
I like this. It adds alot to any sound system. You almost feel like you are in an movie theater.
Pros: I like the fact that it is adjustable.
Cons: none that I can see.
Great sound, easy to set up. Smaller footprint. I really enjoy Polk products.
Pros: Price was right as it came free with my Polk speakers. Big sound out of a small box.
Cons: None so far
Sub is located in my living room and used as 1 of my 6 channels of surround. Sub was free with my other Polk audio purchases. Excellent base and value. Polk always makes great products.
Cons: Nothing yet.
nice and compact with some good lows...the only thing i really have to judge it against is the bose sub...not as much bass/thump but then, not as much money. part of an indoor surround system i value-engineered using all polk products. needed the surround speakers to all be white. used a pair of atrium5 in front, atrium4 in rear and one blackstoneTL2 for the center...with the polk special, all of it was less than $500!
I've had this sub, the Polk RC60i's, RC65i's, and an Onkyo 7.1 receiver in our media room for over a year. The whole Polk system is fantastic. This sub produces nice tight bass that you can feel. We have not been to a movie theater in over a year. For the cost this sub is fantastic.
My Polk PSW111 performs wonderfully in concert - no pun intended - with my
other Polk speakers. Music CDs and movies sound so much better now that
I've added a quality subwoofer to my system. Great price to boot.
Easy to install, user adjustments controls are a great extra to be used with
receivers automatic speaker set up, and as usual, the Crutchfield team was great
This subwoofer is a great complement to a compact surround speaker system. I
got the PSW111 together with the Polk TL250 surround system. I'm very
impressed with the bass response out of the sub. It has a lot of rumble to it without
ever sounding washed out or muddy. There is a volume knob on the back of the
sub too, so you can fine tune the amount of bass that this sub will put out.
I thought long and hard before going with the PSW-111 versus the larger PSW-
125 and so far no regrets. Our PSW-111 is matched with the Blackstone TL-
250 speaker system and together they produce crisp highs and balanced lows.
Admittedly, I had my doubts whether the 8 inch sub could fill our family room
with a deep rich bass and I am happy to report the PSW-111 gets it done
effortlessly. The sub is compact, delivers powerful bass, and tucks away nicely
in the corner of our family room. It goes without saying that I would recommend
a larger woofer for larger rooms, however, I am truly impressed by the sound
this 8 inch sub generates.
This is part of my Polk package for my 3.1 theater system. I'm using it with
the TSi300 L/R, CS10 center and it is a nice sound. The entire system was set
up and calibrated by the Denon Audyssey MultiEQ and it sounds spectacular. Must
say that the sub is not harsh and too loud. The sub is there and has
significance during portions of movie and 5.1 programming, but it is
complimentary and just not a bunch of loud noise!
As an entry level sub this unit has good punch with a relatively small foot-print.
Good bass sound. Make sure you adjust the volume. Several trials will be required to
make sure you get the sound you like. Too much volume will give you a humming noise.
As the unit goes into standby no issue to get back on once your AVP sends the signal.
Delay is about 5 seconds. Unnoticed Small profile speaker
Great price for a medium sized sub. Several adjustments are available but I put them
on the recommended setting and haven't touched them since. I have Bose 501's for my
front speakers and for the longest time never thought I needed a sub, but WOW what a
difference its makes. This is a heavy, sturdy and powerful unit. I am very impressed.
Got this 'free' with the purchase of their RM87 speakers. Works just fine.
Connected fine. I like it. Can't say that it is better than its predecessor.
I guess if I had my preference I'd like it to be other than black so it doesn't
show the dust. How about Polk's wood finish? Still, this unit is up to the job.
Nice entry level sub. Good enough for most of us. Quality construction, small and not pretentious. Keeps up with fast paced music and works well with movies. I placed it behind a couch since i was going for a streamlined look with the in-cieling speakers.
This is a powerful sub in a small package. I am very happy with the bass and I really like
the small size.
I've never had a subwoofer before and now I don't think I'll ever be able to live without
I have had this Subwoofer for a month, and it has addeed just the right amount of deep
bass I needed. Polk is well known for their design/build abilities and I would
recommend them in any Home Theater cicumstance. Movies, surround SACD's, and
regular CD playback is more pronounced with the subwoofer. I have towers, with built in
150 watts per tower powered subs, but the floor standing Polk helps kick everything up!
i have my tsi 400 matched with this sub, perfect for my music listening
pleasures.it does not drown the main speakers compared to having a really huge
sub,so compact very easy to hide in the HT set-up.it's just mind boggling how a
clean base sound coming from a 8"sub!?so w/ this unit bigger is not always better!
I needed a subwoofer for my new surround sound system. The room I am using is approx. 16 x 20 and the PSW111 has been perfectly suited for my needs. There is more than enough lows to allow you to feel the action. During some of my Blurays I have been almost startled out of my chair by sudden explosions, collisions, etc. I highly recommend this subwoofer.
Sounds Great and is really small! A+A+A+
This speaker is amazing for it's size. Don't get me wrong there are larger subs with
more output that produce greater bass, however, for it's size and footprint that it takes up
you can not go wrong. This sub complements a set of polk's RM85 satellites in a
12'x12' room and it makes all the difference in the world. It really fills the room with all
around warm lows and adapts to tv, movies/dvd's, and music via ipod through receiver.
If buying this sub just be aware you'll need a Y adapter to connect left/right input on back
of sub, from single sub output wire from reciever.
Very impressed with this little sub. I use this in a mid size family room for everyday use watching TV and movies with ocasional music. I have this sub paired up with the Polk RM85 speaker system and a Denon 1609. What a perfect combination of style and sound. I love the small size that does not look bulky or out of place. Fits in good with the clean and compact size of my entertainment stand and TV. The sound is full and deep.
I like this product in that it adds a "theater" feel to my entertainment system. The price and performance are good. I am pleased with the purchase.
It's a very good sounding sub...nice tight sound for music or HT. If you need a small sub, it's a great choice.
If you have a huge room and like bass that shakes the house, you may want something larger, but I'm very happy with it.
This works great in
my small HT, blends
well with other Polk
speakers, has very
good upper range and
'bombastic' at all,
would also likely
work well in 2.1
music system. As a
point of reference,
my HT occupies about
½ of a 16' x 24'
room so is
essentially a small
16' x 14' with sound
quantity as the

I've got this hooked to my Onkyo 605, Mirage Unitheater, and Mirage Omnican 6. This does a great job filling in what the Mirage misses and I've only got it about 75% on the gain. The sub is placed inside a cabinet and I sit 13ft away from it and it still sound GREAT! The lows are clear and the speaker feels like it's well made. The room is large (24x28) filled with a mix of carpet, cabinets, sofas, and windows and the system works very well, and this sub ties it all together.
I added this subwoofer to a home theater system a friend had given me. I wanted the extra punch for TV and movies and more bass for my music. This subwoofer does not let me down. I have a 14x20 foot room with hardwood floors. The subwoofer is in the corner next to the TV and no where near the couches, where it should be. The bass is perfect and I have it about 75% of the way up. The last 25% gives the most boost, but I don't need it. For music I actually need to turn it down a hair. It has never rattled and the bass is clear and doesn't have the "boominess" that other users have complained about with other brands. Eventually, I'll add the POLK satellites.
The fact of living in a small apartment has forced me to search for small size subwoofer.
This sub is a way lighter compared to Polk 303 sub even though they both are equipped with the same size drive (8 inch).
Before purchase this new sub, I tried Polk 303 which produces annoying rattling noise that made me return the unit.
Since I had the bad experience with Polk sub, I was a little bit hesitant to try another sub from Polk.
But, since PSW111 is a new breed in the sub crowd, I decided to try.
Foutunately, the new Polk sub has not let me down like the 303 did.
There is neither rattling noise nor boom.
The bass is tight & precise for music play.
It is the lightest sub I have ever lifted.
I haven't used this sub with any surround sound movies since I have only two bookshelf speakers (JBL EX1control).
This sub produces adequate bass for my Apt living room without bothering the next door.
I am really glad to decide to try this sub.

Driver: The Polk Audio PSW111 uses a 8" Dynamic Balance composite cone driver for deep, accurate response with low distortion. For a smoother response and improved durability, the woofer utilizes a rubber surround.
Klippel Optimized Woofer: By using a state-of-the-art Klippel Distortion Analyzer, Polk is able to optimize the woofer's motor structure, voice coil alignment and suspension for the best possible performance even at extreme listening levels.
Motor Structure: The PSW111 utilizes a powerful motor structure for a higher BL response (the measure of the motive force applied to the cone) that results in louder, deeper and punchier bass.
Compression Circuitry: The woofer's Compression Circuitry limits distortion at high volume levels.
Amplifier: The subwoofer is powered by a high-current amplifier producing 150 watts RMS/300 watts dynamic power that supplies clean power for loud bass and the wide dynamic range necessary to recreate a life-like experience in your home.
Enclosure: The PSW111 features a bass-reflex enclosure with non-resonant MDF construction and internal bracing for deep bass impact with superior detail and accuracy.
Down-Firing Port: The powered subwoofer's downward firing port allows the woofer to be extremely efficient and provides more bass impact for your home theater experience.
Not Video Shielded: The subwoofer is not magnetically shielded, so it is not recommended to place it next to tube TVs and video monitors. Though LCD, DLP, and Plasma televisions are not affected by magnetism you should allow at least 18" of space between the subwoofer and any TV.
Placement: You may place the subwoofer anywhere in your room, but it will perform best when it's on the same side of the room as your system's front speakers. Also, placing the subwoofer near a wall or in a corner will reinforce the output.
3-Way Power Switch: The subwoofer has a 3-way power switch on the rear panel. You can select Auto, which turns the unit on automatically when an input signal is received and off 15 minutes after the signal stops; On, which keeps the unit on and Standby, which turns the unit off. The LED power indicator glows green when the unit is on and red when the unit is off.
Volume Control: The PSW111 has a rotary volume control to adjust the volume of the subwoofer relative to the other speakers in the system.
Phase Switch: The subwoofer's phase switch allows you to select 0-degrees (normal) or 180-degrees (reverse). If the bass sounds muddy or unclear, toggling the phase control can sometimes strengthen the bass attack.
Low-Pass Filter: The PSW111 offers a continuously variable low-pass crossover, adjustable from 60-160 Hz. There is an LFE position for use with the filtered LFE output from a receiver or preamp.
Line Inputs: The subwoofer has gold plated left and right RCA line level inputs for use with receivers having subwoofer or stereo preamp outputs that do not contain their own low-pass crossover. Using the Line Inputs allows PSW111 to do all the low-pass filtering. If your receiver or processor only has a single subwoofer line output, connect it to the Right line input jack.
LFE In: The right channel RCA input doubles as the LFE input; if your receiver has an LFE output and a built-in crossover, use this input and set the low-pass filter dial to LFE.
Speaker Level Input/Output: The subwoofer has spring clips for the speaker level inputs and outputs. The subwoofer's low-pass filter sends bass frequencies (based on the setting of the filter) to the subwoofer. The speaker level inputs and outputs are shorted together, so the output is not crossed over. You should set you receiver's front speaker setting to Large.

This Sub is a great compliment to the TL250 and a great deal. [ Curtis Jan 06, 2016 ]
Great reviews and came free with my speaker purchase. Can't beat getting a $300 sub for free! [ DARREN Jan 05, 2016 ]
I currently live in a country with 230v power and will return to the US within a few years. I was looking for a decently powered and cheap subwoofer that I can use here and for when I return home. This subwoofer's input rating is 100-240v 50/60Hz according to the back panel so it was just what I was looking for. [ Anthony Jan 03, 2016 ]

POLK'S REPUTATION AND THE SMALLER SUB-WOOFER IS COMPLEMENT TO MY LARGER ONE THAT I ALREADY OWN. POLK HAS TRADITIONALLY PROVIDED A LOT OF HIGH QUALITY SOUND DOLLAR FOR DOLLAR. [ THOMAS Dec 18, 2015 ]

The Polk Audio PSW111 subwoofer has gold plated left and right RCA line level inputs and the right channel RCA input doubles as the LFE input; so you would use that and connect a mono subwoofer cable to the subwoofer output on your Yamaha RX-A3050 receiver. Here's a Monster Subwoofer cable we have that would work well: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_119140711/Monster-Cable-400sw2-12-feet.html [ Larry Dec 30, 2015 ] Staff
I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: I strongly recommend you follow the manufacturer's instructions, which will be found on page 8 of the owner's manual. However, only ONE subwoofer should be used this way and that would be the Polk sub. The sub from your Samsung system will need to remain disconnected or you could have an impedance problem that would shut down your receiver/amp. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. [ Krissy Nov 28, 2014 ] Staff
No it can not. The PSW111 has a 120V power supply. If you connected it directly to 220V it would fry the circuits. You would need to use a 220V to 120V step down transformer. [ DAVID Aug 06, 2015 ]
Can I hook it up straight to the back of my tv? Thx! [ Ozzie Aug 26, 2014 ]
The amplifier in this subwoofer is only to power the sub. Other speakers will require another power source such as a receiver. For more info on setting up your system I'd recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone or online chat. [ Jeff Dec 16, 2013 ] Staff
