Terrific overhead sound

Want music around the house without the bulk of free-standing speakers? How about dynamic overhead sound effects in your home theater? Polk Audio's RC60i in-ceiling speakers do an awesome job in either application. These popular speakers feature an aimable tweeter so you can direct sound towards you. They also come with a lifetime warranty, so you'll enjoy great sound for years to come.

Enjoy music in any room

Putting speakers in the ceiling for music with minimal visual clutter? Each RC60i is equipped with a 6-1/2" woofer and a 3/4" tweeter. Polk even uses moisture-resistant materials so you can install these in your bathroom, kitchen or covered porch with confidence.

Elevate your home theater

Use the RC60is for lifelike overhead effects in a Dolby Atmos® or DTS:X® system. You'll love how sound moves up and down, instead of just side-to-side and front-to-back. These speakers are great options for the rear surround channels of your system, too.

DIY installation

If this is a do-it-yourself installation, check out our guide to installing in-ceiling speakers, along with our selection of in-wall speaker wire.

Polk's rotating-cam design makes your in-ceiling installation go smoother. Once you have the RC60is in place, simply use a screwdriver to tighten each cam for a secure grip against the back of the ceiling.

Optional pre-construction brackets are recommended for new construction. Free lifetime technical support is provided with every Crutchfield purchase.

Features

Dynamic Balance Technology: Dynamic Balance drivers are used for wide, smooth response and low distortion.

Woofers: Each speaker features a Dynamic Balance, mineral-filled polypropylene woofer for clean midrange and deep, accurate bass. For a smoother response and improved durability, each woofer uses a rubber surround.

Tweeters: Each speaker uses a 3/4" Dynamic Balance, metalized soft dome tweeter in a ball-and-socket swivel mount. The aimable tweeters give you direct high-frequency control, resulting in excellent imaging even for off-axis listening positions.

Infinite Baffle Tuning: Infinite Baffle Tuning uses the virtual enclosure of in-wall space for superior bass response.

Moisture-resistant: Durable, moisture-resistant materials allow you to install the speakers in bathrooms, kitchens, even under the eaves of an enclosed porch. (The speaker is not recommended for exposed outdoor use.)

Installation: The round shape and flush-design allow the RC60i to mimic the look of a recessed lighting fixture. Each speaker requires a cutout diameter of 7.5625" and a mounting depth of 2.488". Each speaker frame has a 8.897" diameter. Once the holes are cut, each speaker is placed in the opening and the Rotating Cams are tightened, allowing you to secure each speaker to the drywall without any extra assembly. The cam extends 2" deep from the mounting surface of the speaker and will accommodate up to 1.283" drywall thickness. When the cams are rotated, each extends 0.625" beyond the 7.5625" cutout diameter. If you will not be mounting these speakers in drywall, make sure the wall or ceiling material can safely support the weight of the speakers before installation; each speaker weighs approximately 2.5 pounds.

Paintable: The grille and flange can be painted, allowing these speakers to match any decor.

Frequency Response:

  • Overall: 40 Hz-20 kHz
  • -3 dB Limit: 60 Hz-20 kHz

Customer Q&A

19 questions already asked

Q
Does the watt use increase when additional speakers are all running from the same channel?
david  Nov 09, 2021
1 answer
A
Wattage increase will depend on the amplifier/receiver you're using. If you have speakers wired in parallel it will drop the impedance of the speaker and draw more power from the amplifier as long as your amplifier is stable at that impedance.

Q
How far apart should you mount these speakers? Thx
nicholas  Feb 20, 2021
2 answers
A
Speakers should be mounted in relation to your main listening position and room layout. Check the Dolby website for the best location recommendations. For my application, it turned out to be about 8 feet apart.
coy  Feb 20, 2021
A
Mine are probably 6' apart, but I'd be happy if they were even 8' apart.
george  Feb 20, 2021

I'm sorry, it's been so long, but they did fit in the holes my speakers came out of which were roughly the same size. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
george  Dec 01, 2020
A
Yes it's 9 inches wide so should be good

Q
Do these speakers work also in Mono. If I want to install one of them in one room and the other in a bathroom. DO they need together as a pair, or can it be used individually?
humberto  Aug 25, 2020

A
The speaker will work, but you will only get either right channel or left channel in each room.
jim  Aug 26, 2020
A
They can be used independently of each other without any problem.

Q
How do I connect 6 RC60i Polk audio ceiling speakers to my Crown Pro XLi1500 900w 2 Channel power amplifier and a volume control all on 1 zone same room?
new user  Apr 16, 2020
2 answers
A
Assuming you have the in wall wiring in place, you just connect the amp speaker out to the volume control input. Ensure Right + goes to Right +, Right - to Right - on the volume input and same with Left. Then same from volume control output to speakers, ensuring you have consistently wired all 4 wires.
gregory  Apr 17, 2020
A
Jason I do not have a Crown Pro amplifer so I do not Know how to connect your amp to these speakers.
jerome c  Apr 17, 2020
Q
Will these speakers work in an RV? Lots of vibration going down the road!
pablo  Oct 26, 2018

A
Yes I have them in my travel trailer. I recommend gluing the grills in because they keep falling off.
jason  Oct 26, 2018
Q
Are there exact dimensions, specifically the depth or height?
constantine  Jul 26, 2018
1 answer
A
From the trim ring that fits to the wall/ceiling surface to the top of the speaker is 2 7/8" deep Please note that there are wires running on top of the speaker as well which add a bit of depth. I would figure a 3" total depth from the trim ring

Q
can these be mounted in acoustic tiles?
ronald e.  Sep 03, 2016
2 answers
A
I don't see why not
chris  Sep 06, 2016
A
I installed mine in drywall ceiling, so I can't say for sure, but it seems to me the potential barriers would be 1)if you can't cut a hole well enough in the tile and 2)if the weight of the speaker overwhelms the structural integrity of the tile (and the tile sags or breaks). The width of the tile could be an issue if you had really thick acoustic tile I guess but that seems unlikely to be a problem.

Q
Would these speakers work from a computer line-out jack instead of powered desktop speakers?
james  Nov 12, 2015
1 answer
A
You would need to connect the line out jack to the input of a stereo receiver and then connect the speakers to the output of the receiver. These speakers are not self powered.
david  Nov 13, 2015
Q
Would these speakers work good for a in ceiling dolby atoms set up? thanks.
dustin  Mar 06, 2015

A
I purchased eight of these speakers. Five for a 5.1 surround system and two for an exterior porch, all in the ceiling. The speakers work fine for the price, but to be honest I am purchasing five, new, higher end speakers for the surround sound system. The quality of sound from the speakers is less than I expected.
john  Mar 07, 2015
A
Yes perfect for ceiling, I bought 4 of those and I harldy recommend it.
rachid  Mar 07, 2015

2.5 lbs each, approximately.
john  Jan 14, 2015
A
I don't know the exact weight, but mine are in the ceiling made of 1/2" drywall.
richard  Jan 14, 2015
A
Not too heavy. You can put it into any drywall without any problem. I will say around 3pound each. Great product.

Q
I am looking for an in-ceiling speaker for use in my bathroom. Would this be suitable for such a high-humidity application?
rusty  Nov 15, 2014

A
Ross, I put these speakers in my bathrooms and they work great. One of the bathrooms has a steam shower and a large bathtub and I do not have any problems with humidity. I do have a ceiling fan but normally I do not use it until after I am out of the steam bath.
carl j  Nov 17, 2014
A
I have one of these speakers in my bathroom and it's mounted approximately three feet away from the shower on the ceiling. I've not had any issues with that speaker concerning humidity it has been mounted in there for approximately two years.
jesse j  Nov 16, 2014
A
Not sure about the humidity situation it's a great speaker sorry I couldn't give you a answer to your ?

Q
I just bought six rc60i speakers for a 7.1 channel surround home theater. My question is should I get one more rc60i for the center channel or maybe a Polk tl3 center speaker? It fits nicely under my tv in the cabinet. Already prewired for center in the ceiling but not sure if it would sound good. Ceiling is 14 feet. Receiver is sony str-dn840. Sub is Polk psw10
corwin  Jan 04, 2014
2 answers
A
You really don't want your center or your fronts in the ceiling. They should be directly in front of the listener at ear level (in a perfect world.)
martin  Jan 12, 2014
A
I have a 7.1 setup using the rc60i for all 7 speakers. the center channel sounds great however my ceiling is only 10 feet so wether the extra 4 feet would make a difference I cant speak to.
michael  Jan 05, 2014
Q
Is there a difference in the design between in-wall and in-ceiling speakers (besides rectangular versus round)?
carl a  Dec 12, 2013
4 answers
A
Not that I can tell. It looks like the same quality of manufacture and materials in the magnets, surround and cone. The bass response is determined by the enclosure which in this case is the wall or ceiling. I have a subwoofer that takes care of the low end.
william  Dec 13, 2013
A
Not really. The in wall that I bought were bigger and produce a much deeper base response. Also, the rectangular series has a separate tweeter . I highly recommend both .
alex  Dec 13, 2013
A
Performance specs are obviously different. I think mounting options available are different too.
richard  Dec 13, 2013
A
I actually have 4 round Polk audio rc60i I'm my living room , two in fron on the top approx 4 feet from my flat screen an two right above where we sit in the couch we also have the rectangular Polk audio in the wall one on each side of the goat screen and the clarity and bass is awesome Feels like your in a movie theatre Hope that helped a little
jesus e  Dec 13, 2013
Q
Unless I missed it, the manual doesn't address protecting the speaker from insulation, dust, mice, crud, etc. if mounted in the ceiling and exposed to the attic. Is there a cover (similar to some car door mounted speakers) that you recommend?
carl a  Dec 12, 2013
2 answers
A
My speakers were installed into existing construction. The process might be different for new construction. It's not clear to me how one could make a mass produced cover for installation in existing construction. I used some cardboard and a razor knife to fashion a "dam" to keep the insulation off my speakers. Proceed at your own risk. I assume a speaker won't generate enough heat to ignite cardboard, so proceed at your own risk. Mice - we got a cat after a mouse stole my Koss earbuds off my desk. Problem solved!
david  Dec 14, 2013
A
Sorry Carl, couldn't answer your question. My builder installed and they were installed between floors, not in an attic space.
helmut  Dec 13, 2013
Q
How to install the speakers after construction?
gilbert  Nov 30, 2013

You can find information on installing the speakers in the manual here: http://a248.e.akamai.net/pix.crutchfield.com/Manuals/107/107RC55I.PDF
