Polk's RC65i in-wall speaker lets you bring incredible Polk sound to any room in your house. Pairing a 3/4" soft dome Dynamic Balance tweeter with a 6-1/2" Dynamic Balance woofer, the RC65i delivers powerful sound throughout the listening area, not just in a tiny "sweet spot."
The swivel-mounted tweeters let you direct the high frequencies to fine-tune the best possible sound for your favorite listening positions. And Polk's Infinite Baffle Tuning takes advantage of the virtual enclosure of in-wall space for superior bass response. The RC65i is voice-matched to other Polk speakers, so you can use a pair as your surround speakers in a home theater system that includes more traditional freestanding speakers for the front channels.
The rotating-cam design makes installation easy — once you've prepared the opening in your drywall and run UL-rated wiring from your receiver, you can secure this flush-mount speaker with a few turns of a screwdriver. And you can paint the white matte grilles to match any decor.
An optional in-wall bracket is recommended for installing the RC65i in a home with new construction.

Pros: Adjustable tweeters.
Cons: Grills a bit tight
We had a pair of Boston Acoustic speakers mounted in our wall of our home for 23 years, they finally needed replaces. The Polk speakers were the closest fit. The ease of installation and the sound quality were all as promised.
Pros: Easy installation, great sound and the paintable grill and frame make them a winner
Cons: none yet
Great quality and very easy to install. Although I only replaced one of my existing speakers, I'm now considering replacing the additional 7 spread around the house
Pros: Sound quality, ease of installation
Installed these in my home theater, connected to my Onkyo tx-nr737, and the sound is perfect. Im using these as the surround speakers.
I installed these in walls of our master bedroom as part of the whole house sound install, we have 2x4 walls which allowed enough room for installation with some fiberglass insulation for backing as recommended. I have these connected through a 25 year old Harmon Kardon 35 and distributed to the bedroom by way of passive distribution panel and into an impedance matching volume control knob. The longest part of the install was running the cabling and cutting the holes for the speaker and volume knob. These speakers are a great value and sound great, I'm going to continue placing them around the house and would recommend them to anyone looking for a good sounding affordable sound. They do have a pretty good dynamic range with a nice warm bottom sounding end and a not too overly tight high end where it sounds way to tiny. You will want to place insulation in the wall cavity where the speakers are installed so that room where the back of the speaker comes up to doesn't receive to much of that dead sound and vibration and so that the sound doesn't get absorbed in the walls.
Pros: Great sounding easy to install with included cut out template.
I have had these speakers for my 7.2 system in my shop for years. I have 4 RC65i flush mount speakers used for surround and I love them. Now I bought the same speakers through Crutchfield for my wife's new office space and it was a no brainer. They are great and the sound and bass make you feel like your right there whether it be music or movies.
Pros: Great speaker! More than I hoped for and the sound is lifelike. Handles a great deal of power and no bad effects.
Cons: I have no complaints at all!
Kitchen rehab and we wanted speakers driven by a bluetooth amp. These Polks have incredible clarity, depth and separation (aim-able tweeters) Fitting was easy and the look great also.
Pros: Sound clear with great definition and rich, balanced bass
Excellent performance at a great price
I was looking for new in wall speakers to replace some old infinities in a rear surround sound position. In that position, these are a great sound for the money. I installed in the existing sheet rock openings and it was truly a breeze. 5 minutes and done. Another shout out to the tremendous team at Crutchfield who are always genuine in their desire to help!
Pros: install was a breeze. great value.
Pros: Easy to install and outstanding sound.
worked as advertized, good bargain!
Pros: great price for quality speakers
Cons: none so far.
easy install and great sound
Pros: easy install
These speakers look great and sound excellent. They have nice weight and size but are thin enough to install in any wall. I have them connected to an old receiver that will be replaced soon but even still the sound is rich and full.
Pros: look, sound and ease of installation
Cons: None that I have discovered yet.
Nice speakers, well balanced sound. Good value.
Pros: Great sound and easy mounting. Good price.
Needed a pair of in wall rear surround speakers. Listened to quite a few at Crutchfield retail store. After a lot of listening and discussions with knowledgeable salesman, decided on these. Are well constructed and very easy to install. Mist importantly, they sound great in this configuration. Glad I purchased them!
Pros: Great sound - easy installation.
Just got these installed about 2 weeks ago and they're sweet! I don't claim to be an expert but all of the reviews related to these are spot on. They sound great, bass is good, highs are also good. Using them with 2 ceiling mounted 8 inch polks...the kitchen and family room are rocking!
Pros: Easy to install ....sound great.
Cons: none yet..
Great! Just as described. Came with template to help cut appropriate holes in wall... very helpful. Great value!
Pros: Helpful template. Easy to install.
Excellent sound for an affordable price
Excellent sound, detailed instructions, great value.
They are easy to install and sound awesome in the wall, even with more space where you might have a large area behind your sheatrock.
Pros: Install template, can be painted, and sound great.
I added these to a new theater room for both side and rear speakers and I am more than pleased with the quality of sound. the install was quick and easy with the provided template and I had the speakers playing in no time.
Pros: Easy to install, quality of sound
HiFi sound.. bass limited off course. Quality crossover.. Efficient Speaker. Installation was a easy. Compares well with other Brand name offerings
Pros: good sound efficient price was right
Cons: Need a big hole in the wall to fit speaker. Huge baffle small woofer
The Polk RC65i wall speaker performs admirably--excellent, full sound. Arguably one of the best buys available.
Pros: Sound is great; wall installation is a breeze. Well engineered.
Absolutely no complaints from order to installation to tech support phone call. Shipping time was 2 days. The template and instructions for cutting the holes was right on. The screw-in clips to lock the speaker in the wall is well designed and simple to install. Phone call to ask about using insulation behind the speakers to improve sound was answered in a couple of rings. The tech support rep was knowledgeable and helpful. Best of all, the sound is better than I expected.
Pros: The price (no shipping charge for ground) was highly competitive.
Cons: No negatives at all from start to finish.
Decided to replace my front speakers and go with an in-wall option for a cleaner look. These arrived in just a couple of days after ordering and only took about 45 minutes to an hour to install. I have a small living room, 12x14, and these sound fantastic with the output from my little Onkyo TX-NR414. The included template for cutting the holes made it very simple. I plan to purchase in-ceiling speakers next for the rear and will look at a Polk option when the time comes. Additional note: these made the wife extremely happy since she doesn't have to see or be bothered with wires and shelf speakers anymore.
Pros: Great sound and quality for the price. Easy to install!
Great value. Speakers are high quality, well put together, easy to install, and sound great.
Pros: Fast delivery, good quality, great price.
Cons: I should have bought a second pair.
Polk speakers consistently give the best bang for the buck and these speakers are true to form!!
Pros: Great consistent full sound with excellent directional tweeter.
Really great speakers! I use them as my front surround speakers and they are wonderful. I use a Sony A/V reciever to power them. A little nervous first cutting into the drywall, but template was spot on. Just make sure you have everything level and away from the studs before you start cutting!.
Pros: Easy install, great sound. Very pleased. I like the ability to adjust the tweeters.
Cons: Difficult to paint the grille. I ended up just painting the frame of the speaker grille to match the wall color--it looks fine. You really have to thin down the paint a LOT to keep it from clogging the grille holes--couldn't get it to work.
Awesome Speakers especially for the price! I bought this along with the RC 55, 85, and 265RT Center Channel Speaker in wall speakers for my 7.1 system and it sounds amazing! I really did some shopping around and could not see myself spending hundreds of dollars per front, back and side speakers. So I went with the Polk speakers and I couldn't be happier. My suggestion however would be to get a great receiver to get the maximum sound you are looking for. I lucked out as i have a friend who upgraded to an 11.2 system and sold me his $1500 Pioneer receiver for $400! God is Good and my system sounds Great! The installation was easy as i had my room pre-wired for a 7.1 system so all i had to do was cut out the holes in the walls and install. Once installed I painted the grill as the instructions said with spray paint and my Theater Room looks amazing! I'm not one to pay somebody to do what I can do myself and I'm no professional but the installation was a breeze and my room looks professional grade! Also, they sent me the Polk PSW111 for free with my purchase and OMG! My room is booming! Thanks Crutchfield! My wife told me to upgrade to 7.1 and I'm so glad she did! I'm one Happy Customer!
Pros: very easy to install
Cons: none so far
Bought these to be L/R front speakers in my family room. A Denon 1921 receiver drives the home theater system. I'm a movie fan but I also love country rock and classic rock. I have been impressed with the ability of these speakers to deliver distortion-free sound. A Crutchfield rep helped me together the whole system. I could not be happier. They were a cakewalk to install. In my experience, it has been very rare to find electronic components that live up to the hype. These speakers EXCEEDED my expectation. Even at 80% volume (about 76 watts) there is no distortion, just clean sound up and down the spectrum. Now, I do have a subwoofer which balances out the low frequencies. I would recommend these to anyone for a home theater.
Pros: Clean clear sound up to 76 watts/channel. Easy to install.
All in all a very good product. Installation was easy. Bass is fairly weak when compared to higher quality speakers but for the price a very good in-wall option.
Pros: Easy installation Good look Price
Cons: Sound quality just OK
I was suspect that these speakers couldn't drive solid sound, but I was wrong. Very clear, slightly deep sound reverberates from them. Very easy install. You do NOT have to be a drywall specialist to put them in.
Pros: Great price, good sound, easy install.
My install was a breeze since i was replacing existing in-walls. had to cut the opening a bit larger, but these would be easy installs either way. I really didn't think a change in surrounds would make such an improvement. Mind you i was coming from some cheap RS 5.25 round two ways. These are a great compliment with my L,C,Rs. Great quality and sound for the price. Very happy and would def recommend. Cant believe what I have been missing back there. Even my ' all speakers are the same' wife noticed the change,no lie. I would recommend insulation in the wall cavity around them .
Pros: sound, very good for cost, typical polk value
Sounds great for the money. be aware that the mounting tabs only rotate to the sides and not to the top. I discovered a bonus extra stud in the wall where one did not belong and i ended up right next to it. it would have been very handy if the tabs could have positioned up and down and not just to the side. a large paddle bit and some boring-out later... i was back in business with horizontal-only mounts. also, the mounting tabs and tab guide sleeves are plastic-only and not incredibly durable through multiple mountings. while the above sounds negative, i still completely recommend these. they sound great, the other side which did not have any surprise obstructions mounted quickly and flawlessly and they are painted to blend in to the wall color which is a big win with my wife.
Pros: great sound, decent build, paintable bezel and screen looks great.
Cons: more flexible and durable mounting options would be appreciated
I bought a pair of these years ago and loved them so much that when I went from 5.1 to 7.1 they were the logical choice !
I've had these in my media room for just over a year. These speakers are going strong and they sound fantastic. For the cost, these speakers can not be beat.
I bought Polk Audio RC65i speakers to replace old in -ceiling BIC America ones. Installation took 20 minutes (very simple). The quality of the sound is what I expected (good). Together with my Outlaw LFM-1 Compact subwoofer and Onkyo TX8555 receiver I have a very good 2.1 stereo system. The speakers are good quality and great value. I did not want to go with larger and more expensive speakers because I wanted to use existing ceiling cuts from the old speakers.
Well made. high quality. Good design for easy installation. I am using them for TV speakers in stereo with a 5.1 receiver. High and mid tone is very nice. Fills the room. Needs a sub woofer if you want the best sound. Does not have the bass performance of a book shelf speaker. Worth the money.
Great speakers. Very good sound. Can't beat the price. However, if used as surround backs, take a bit of adjusting to get a good sound. But, overall Very good.
Great speakers! Excellent sound quality and volume.
I purchased these Polk 107RC65I in-wall speakers for the rear surround sound for my Yamaha receiver. These speakers sound great. I also like the easy way they install in the wall. There is no messy wires strung along the walls they are in the walls. I would recommend these speakers to anyone that need speakers. I also purchased the Polk 107CSR center channel speaker a day later and replaced my floor speakers with Polk R150 bookshelf speakers. Thanks Crutchfields for having a good line of products for a reasonable price.
This is the second set I have purchased from Crutchfield. to replace existing in-wall speakers. As with the first set, the difference between those I replaced and these is phenomenal - no contest. The sound is fantastic. These are the best speakers you will find for under $200.00 I am very satisfied. . Moreover, Crutchfield's service and follow-up distinguishes them among their competition.
A great set of in wall speakers for the price. We have a smallish living room but these do an excellent job of filing the space nicely with good sound. I do not notice the bass deficit others mention but we have a powered sub so...The installation was simple enough but I would have appreciated a hardi-back template that I could level. Really, quite nice.
very good rear speaker. very pleased. highly recommend
Purchased the RC-85 as my front speakers and the RC-65 as the rear surround. Very happy with the sound quality and performance. They sound great for being a small speaker. Were a breeze to install. If you like a lot of bass, pair them up with a good sub...but this should be obvious given their size and purpose.
I purchased these speakers a few weeks ago and just finished installing them in my wall. After putting a little Nick Warren in the CD player, I can honestly say that the sound is crisp, the highs are clear, and the lows are tight at any volume! These speakers are absolutely sick! I love them, and I'm certain that my neighbors are going to hate me!!!

Installation Tip: You have to pack some R25 or similar insulation around these speakers inside the wall. This dramatically improves the sound quality of any in-wall speaker, especially these.
I purchased these as surrounds paired with Polk 85i for my home theater. They have worked beyond my initial expectations. They work wonderful. I am currently selling my home and during the open houses everyone has been impressed with the quality of the home theater.

I am so impressed that I am going to purchase them again from crutchfield for my new home theater.

Thanks Crutchfield/Polk.
Right out of the box and into the wall, these speakers are a fairly easy install. Traced the supplied template, cut the hole, fished the cable, hooked up the speakers and into the wall they went!!! No kit required!!! Instructions for install recommend cutting inside of the lines for the cut out, this did result in the need to hone the edges to get the speakers in the wall. The speakers do sound decent---I would recommend insulation above and below the speaker for interior walls(most ext. walls will have insulation) for better base response.
I ordered 2 pairs for my surround speakers in my 7.1 set up. I was impressed in how user friendly the speakers were. I installed them myself and installation was a breeze. The speakers include a template and detailed instructions. I literally traced the template, cut the dry wall, packed the cavity with some insulation, and dropped the speakers in, 1-2-3. The midrange and treble sound great. I will say low bass response is pretty weak but that is typical from an in-wall speaker. Besides, these are only my surrounds so my Polk sub and front tower speakers provide low bass. Not only do they sound great, but they give your room a clean, uncluttered look most bulky surround speakers don't offer.
|Power Range (Watts)||20-100|
|Connector Type||Spring clip|
Dynamic Balance Technology: Dynamic Balance drivers are used for wide, smooth response and low distortion.
Woofers: Each speaker features a 6-1/2" Dynamic Balance, mineral-filled polypropylene woofer for clean midrange and deep, accurate bass. For a smoother response and improved durability, each woofer uses a rubber surround.
Tweeters: Each speaker uses a 3/4" Dynamic Balance, metalized soft dome tweeter in a ball-and-socket swivel mount. The aimable tweeters give you direct high-frequency control, resulting in excellent imaging even for off-axis listening positions.
Infinite Baffle Tuning: Infinite Baffle Tuning uses the virtual enclosure of in-wall space for superior bass response.
Moisture-resistant: Durable, moisture-resistant materials allow you to install the speakers in bathrooms, kitchens, saunas, even under the eaves of an enclosed porch. (The speaker is not recommended for exposed outdoor use.)
Installation: Each speaker requires a cutout 7.3125" wide and 10.75" high with a mounting depth of 2.407". Once the holes are cut, each speaker can be dropped in and the Rotating Cams can be tightened, allowing you to secure each speaker to the drywall without any extra assembly. If you will not be mounting these speakers in drywall, make sure the wall or ceiling material can safely support the weight of the speakers before installation; each speaker weighs approximately 3.75 pounds.
Paintable: The grille and flange can be painted, allowing these speakers to match any decor.

I have a 5.1 with the RC65i in the rear. The center channel is very important in your surround sound and so was a good subwoofer for me. I don't think you can go wrong with either setup. [ Cody May 09, 2016 ]
The installation manual calls for a 1" clearance from any objects, studs, joists, etc. Because those tabs pivot on a screw, you might be able to get away with a little less, but you want the speaker to be firmly mounted, so that there are no vibrations. Hope this helps a little. Gary [ GARY Nov 13, 2015 ]
take it that you don't have two by four studed walls? Measure from edge that meets the surface of your wall to the end of your speaker. [ DAVID Jan 01, 2015 ]
Hi Josh C, I installed my RC65i in a ceiling outside over an enclosed so it was only the thickness of the sheet rock, say half to three quarters inch thick, they secured up nice n tight,2.25 is pushing it in my opinion. As a suggestion I would call Polk Audio on there free 800 # an ask there advisers if the clamps extend that far out? [ JOSEPH Nov 22, 2014 ]
You should contact polk audio directly as they might be able to give you the exact answer. [ GUSTAVO Nov 22, 2014 ]
I had these installed a while back but if I had to bet, I'd probably say no. I don't remember the clamp being that wide, even in its fully "unclamped" position. [ GUSTAVO Nov 22, 2014 ]
I don't knoe, as I installed in ceiling drywall. My recollection is plenty of room to spare. [ NATHAN J Nov 22, 2014 ]
Hi Josh, It's been about a year since I installed mine, so I don't remember exactly how deep the clamps will reach, but I don't think the screw clamps would have 2.25" of depth. They have enough depth for standard drywall plus the available mounting brackets, plus a bit extra. Maybe 1/4"-1/2" extra from my recollection. I hope you are able to find a solution. I'm happy with mine. Good luck! [ GABRIEL F Nov 22, 2014 ]
At worst you will just need a longer screw for the tabs that hold it to the wall. I'm sure easily found at any hardware store. Am overall happy with them. [ PETER Nov 22, 2014 ]
I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: You can do either. The RC65i's come with a tweeter that can swivel. You can aim the tweeter towards the direction of your couch. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. Yes, they can be mounted in the ceiling. The round one are labeled as ceiling mount because they will blend in with round recessed lighting. Same speakers the round ones have the tweeter in the middle and these have the tweeter separate. [ TODD Jan 02, 2014 ]
I do have them celling mounted and they sound fantastic... Both round and rectangular can mount in ceiling perfectly [ VINCENT J Dec 30, 2013 ]
I have used these with great success as ceiling mounted speakers. The directional tweeters are a plus. Hope this helps. [ MICHAEL Dec 30, 2013 ]
yes I use them in my ceiling [ MICHAEL Dec 30, 2013 ]
These speaker can be ceiling mounted. Circular speakers are typically used in ceilings because lights and other ceiling mounted things such as smoke detectors and sprinklers ect. are round therefore the idea is that round speakers disappear more than rectangular ones. [ JEREMY Dec 30, 2013 ]
I used these as ceiling speakers- 8" in front and 6" in back with center and sub. Sounds very good. [ JAMES N Dec 30, 2013 ]
Steve, I installed brackets in my walls prior to sheetrock in a new construction home. Having just installed the speakers into the walls yesterday with the brackets in place, I'm not sure they are absolutely necessary although they would prevent the mounting latches from digging into the back of the sheetrock. Depending on your mounting location, you might be able to slip the brackets through the holes you cut in your wall, and secure them from behind with adhesive or sheetrock screws driven through the sheetrock and into the plastic of the brackets. Hope this helps! [ GABRIEL F Dec 14, 2013 ]
Yes. You use a template to cut a hole in the drywall. The speakers have tabs that fold out as the screws are tightened to secure them to the drywall like an old work electrical box. [ GREGORY C Dec 06, 2013 ]
I mounted my speakers on sheet rock. Each speaker has four tabs. They are located on each corner. As you tighten the screw which is attached to the tab, it swings the tab out and as you keep tightening the screw the tab gets closer to the sheetrock until it secures it in place. [ KENNETH J Dec 05, 2013 ]
Not sure what you mean about 'post construction'. Meaning putting these into an existing wall? The whole speaker fits into the wall and is held in place by four screw clamps that come attached to the speaker housing. Very easy to put in, takes less than a couple minutes. The grill then gets snapped back into place. If you mean a house that is post and beam, where you would have to hang a speaker versus mounting in a wall, then these are not for you. They are in wall only. [ PETER Dec 05, 2013 ]
No there is no bracket the speakera self mount. I just ran wires before sheet rock and marked with electric boxes where I wanted the speaker wire to be and mounted the speakers at the end of home construction [ NATHAN Dec 04, 2013 ]
There is no bracket needed. There are 6 posts that rotate out to grip the wall board and hold the speaker in place. The only restriction is that you cannot mount the speaker too close to a stud or other obstruction. It is best to allow around an inch, though half an inch would still work. [ DAVID Dec 04, 2013 ]
The brackets are pre-construction as they allow for the holes in the drywall to be cut exactly as needed during that phase. If all construction is done, the brackets are not really necessary as the speakers will clamp directly to the drywall. The brackets do give a little reinforcement and remove the guess work out where to cut a hole. Basically, there is no OEM solution for brackets when there is no access to the studs. [ MARK E Dec 04, 2013 ]
there is no special bracket but you just cut the hole in the drywall using the template included with the speaker and when you place the speaker in the hole the 4 mounting screws have a special tab the rotates and grips the backside of the drywall. Works best if the speaker isn't against a stud but has drywall around the whole speaker. hope this helps [ LOREN Dec 04, 2013 ]
No bracket. No mounting hardware. Nice, cardboard template. The speakers have 1" "flaps" that swing into place behind sheetrock to keep them in place. [ WILLIAM Dec 04, 2013 ]
