The RTi6 combines the simple elegance of a bookshelf speaker with advanced Polk technology and impressive performance. Taking advantage of the latest generation of Polk's Dynamic Balance® drivers, the RTi6 features a 6-1/2" woofer and re-worked 1" silk/polymer tweeter for smooth response and exceptionally detailed sound. And with its beautiful real wood veneer available in black oak or cherry finish, the RTi6 makes a handsome addition to any room decor.

As always, Polk has paid close attention to the details. The RTi6's cabinet features all-MDF construction with extensive internal bracings that virtually eliminate sound-muddying resonance. It also includes Polk's exclusive Power Port technology for clear, deep lows, and an ARC port for more natural mids. Dual gold-plated 5-way binding posts allow for bi-amping or bi-wiring.

The RTi6s do a great job with stereo music on their own, digging down into the low frequencies all the way to 50 Hz — not too shabby for bookshelf speakers. Or you can team them up with a powered sub for rib-rattling results. For dynamic, detailed movie sound, use 2 pairs as your home theater's front and surround speakers. For larger rooms, the RTi6s work perfectly as surrounds in combination with RTi tower front speakers.

Recommended center channel speaker: Polk CSi3.
Recommended surround speakers: Polk RTi6, Polk RTi4, FXi A4.

Why choose bookshelf speakers?

Bookshelf speakers may be small in size, but they can deliver surprisingly big sound. Some ultra-compact models even fit on a desktop. Most are right at home in tight spaces like shelves, so they're usually good choices for your home theater's rear channels. For the best performance, try placing bookshelf speakers on solid speaker stands to help the sound really "open up." If you want full bass impact, add a powered subwoofer and enjoy punchy sound that's as deeply satisfying as that of floor-standing speakers.

polk rti series

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

silk dome tweeters smooth, accurate not metalic or lacking .6.5 mid woofer good in small room but not as strong as tweeter for producing balance of pair in larger room or at volume.can't beat floorstanding for bottom end. sub ?well maybe for most but it is never going to sound LIVE.

Music and TV will never be the same again.

Written By Brent, Tampa, FL on Friday, July 29, 2011

To put it simply - these are fantastic speakers. The bass response is great and the silk tweeters are perfect - not harsh sounding like some tweeters made of harder materials. If you plan on purchasing these, I would highly recommend a receiver that has the ability to bi-amp. Not bad if they aren't bi-amped, but they sound incredible when they are.

Polk Audio RTi6

Written By Rob, Washington DC on Wednesday, January 05, 2011

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I wasn't sure if I wanted floor standing or bookshelf speakers as my main front speakers. To save a few dollars, decided to go shelf. Then I had to choose from the R Ti4's and the R Ti6's. If you can spent the money, step up to the 6-1/2" drivers (R Ti6). They give a much fuller sound. I used the R150's as my surrounds, CSi3 as my center, and the monster PSW125 for the room shaking lows, all powered by a Sony STRDH810 Receiver. I watched Transformers, Saving Private Ryan, and Avitar on Blu-ray.............

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

It has been a year and a half since the audio system was unplugged for home improvements. The original speakers purchased in the late 70's had to be replaced and as a Christmas gift this past season I researched and selected these beautiful cherry finish Polk Audio RTi6 speakers. What a sound system! After listening to XM Radio coming through Directv I for over 16 months we can once again appreciate the fine work of many artists coming through magnificent speakers.

Very Satisfied

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought these speakers on the recomendation of a co-worker and found them to be crisp and clear with no distortion at high audio levels. Using them for not only CD playback, but as the front pair with our new flat screen LCD TV. Stuck some 3/4" rubber bumpers on the bottom to isolate them and prevent scratching.

Fantastic speaker

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I just purchased an entire Polk System (RTi6's front, RTi 4's rear, CSi3 center, and I used the $200 sub credit to upgrade to the PSW110). All this is being driven by my Onkyo 805 and I couldn't belive the sound coming from such a small package. I saw Crutchfields price for these speakers and after reading the reviews, I gave them a shot and I am now a Polk convert. The sound is much more accurate in the high's with a great midrange coming from this 2 way speaker. The low end is better than you'd expect from a 6.5" but you'll need a sub for strong listening. Like many other comments here, you will not be disappointed with the sound quality of these speakers; it rivals many costing 2-3 times as much.

These are great prices on a speaker that is getting discontinued with the new RTi A1, A3 series coming out. The only major difference with the new series is cabinet design, which to me, wasn't worth the significant price jump; get these before they are gone!!! You can feel confident buying a quality product from a quality retailer such as Crutchfield. The shipping was quick and secure.

Great Value !

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I'm very pleased with these speakers I purchased recently for my home theater.
For their size & price they have a room-filling sound that rivals some of my friends' more expensive systems.

I also purchased the CSi3 center channel & FXi3 surrounds to go with these and they all work great together! The free PSW10 was not as good as I'd hoped, but better than what I had previously - so I'm not that disappointed. I would recommend taking the $199.00 credit towards a different model for anyone looking at this deal.

Crutchfield is a great place to buy and I highly recommend shopping their website & customer service people

Great speakers!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was looking for a nice pair of speakers that would be primarily for music and after some research the RTi6's became my choice.
These things sound great! They are a little bright, but that's okay with me and I think they may even out after they break in some more.
I have heard many people talk about listening to a nice set of speakers and hearing things they hadn't heard before in their music... I wasn't sure if this was really true or not, but now I must say I know what they are talking about and I can't wait to start going through my library!
As far as I'm concerned this is a great pair of speakers and I look forward to buying more Polks in the future.
I have a feeling these will be replacing my old JBL's as the Main L and R pair for my home theater.
Pairing them up with a sub is the way to go, but they do have decent bass response for bookshelves.

Surprising performance

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

For bookshelf speakers, these deliver amazingly clear sound, particularly in the highs. I've replaced the big old dinosaurs with these little gems. May get a subwoofer down the line to push the bass a little, but for now these are perfect! They look great, too.

x-mas present to myself

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I spent a long time researching a system for myself on this site and others (and in stores). Im using the rti6s for my front mains, a pair of rti4s for the rear, csi3 center, powered by a Yamaha RX-V659. The system came with the 10" powered sub.

I wanted a system that would work great for movies, and in the off time play music. This system delivers both.

The RTI6s have very nice bass response but are missing the super-lows, but together with a separate sub you are in business. The rti6s are not going to be the same as having towers with subs, but at the price point there is no comparison. To get anything more impressive than this you would have to move up to rti10 and buy external amps.

Movies are extremely clear and tight. The sound field is very impressive, everything is lifelike and realistic. You really want to crank them up. (even my wife wants it loud now!) Loud sounds do not overwhelm you, and quiet ones are distinct. These are the most accurate/clear speakers I have ever heard. Playing some electro-techo all of the voices are distinct and do not clobber themselves, which I thought would not be possible over a single high & mid . Voice over the csi-3 is unbelievable. No matter what situation, what action is going on, you can always clearly understand the voice. We rewatched some old favorites and discovered a few scenes where the characters were whispering was audible and could clearly make it out.... we were amazed!

Negative points for shipping. Our UPS guy rings the doorbell and runs to his truck, leaving all my polks by the door for whoever to snipe. Standard shipping takes 5-6 days to get to central te

RTI6 Great Speakers with nice sound and convenient hardware

Written By Matt, Philadelphia on Sunday, November 19, 2006

The sound of the speaker is terrific. I am not an audiophile by any means. But I enjoy how these Polk RTI6 sounds. The sound is clear and crisp it works terrifically for music. These are part of my 7.1 surround sound system as well. They are my main left and right speakers and they hang on the wall great.

If you need to hang them on the wall (to make some room on the floor out of the way of a running and curious 3 year old) the speaker comes with a built in bracket to make hanging very easy and painless). I did not notice any sound issues by hanging them on the wall.

quite nice

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

very satisfied with these speakers, for the price. Using as main stereo pair for audio only (no TV/video). Clarity and depth of field are excellent for size. Bass is clear and nicely present with rear of speakers at least 8" from wall - gets a bit muddy with rear closer to wall. Bass response overall is the only slight disappointment - even considering the small size, speaker is a bit unbalanced toward the high end. Probably a helpful characteristic for home-theater use. Response more balanced at high volume, which they handle well.

Great speaker for living room HT

Written By Joe, Atlanta, Ga on Sunday, July 09, 2006

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought a pair of these for my living room 5.1 HT setup. From action movies, live concert DVDs, sports, to stereo CDs, everything sounds great! I would describe them as having a warm sound with crisp highs, distinct mid-tones and solid mid-bass. They are not heavy-metal rocker speakers, but they are excellent for clean, pure sound.

I chose Polk RM101 speakers for my surrounds, and they are a perfect match. I also recommend the Sanus NF30B (black) or NF30C (cherry) speaker stands for these speakers. They place the speakers at just the right height for listening.

Best Bookshelves For The Money!!

Written By Rick, Lexington,NC on Monday, May 08, 2006

These are great speakers! The sound quality is very, very good. They have good bass for a bookshelf speaker, nice accurate midrange, and clean detailed highs. And the build quality is better than anything I have seen near this price. The Cherry veneer finish is absolutely gorgeous! Highly recommended.

match with rti10 and csi5

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

i bought these speakers (here) after hearing them at a big box store. there is no better one in the clarity and seperation of the sound by instrument, voice, etc. at this price. i matched them with rti10 and csi5 for surround and SACD (at crutchfield's suggestion) although this is not necessary for say, a home theater system, just get 4/6 and the center and a small subwoofer. they are great at stereo hi-fi, the subtle nuances you will hear in music you thought you knew are stunning at any volume level. and always buy from crutchfield, its the best in service, advice, selection.

Great Bookshelf Speakers

Written By Richard, Wellington, FL on Tuesday, November 01, 2005

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was originally looking at the LSi9's but backed off them due to the high power output needed to drive them. I purchased a Denon 3806, not an amp, so I was concerned about the 4 ohm speakers.

I tried the RTi's and was amazed at the quality, particulary for the price. They sound great in every respect and pair well with the PSW subwoofers and CTi center speakers. Connected to the Denon receiver with a digital audio in from a DVD player = great home theatre, not budget home theatre.

I am sure the LSi9's sound phenomenal at home as well, particularly when powered properly. However, these + the Denon meet all my needs at a fraction of the investment. Highly recommended.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers were a true surprise to me after connecting them to my receiver. I replaced JBL's that I had for a while which always sounded great to me. The difference with the Rti6's in comparison to the JBL's is clarity and highs. They are very deep in size and handle lows as well. Overall, I am very pleased with my decision to make this purchase. For the price and the sound produced, you can't go wrong. In my opinion, I feel Polks are the way to go.

Dynamic Balance: Dynamic Balance is a proprietary Polk Audio technology using laser imaging to determine what combination of speaker materials create the least amount of resonance. Eliminating resonance in speakers results in a wide, smooth response and low distortion.

Polymer Composite Woofers: Each speaker features a polymer composite woofer for smooth wide-range response with low distortion. For high performance durability, each woofer uses a butyl rubber surround.

Silk/Polymer Tweeters: Each speaker has a 1" silk/polymer dome tweeter that provides clear, detailed highs. Each tweeter uses a heat sink on the Neodymium magnet for superior heat dissipation, power handling and reliability.

Acoustically Inert Cabinets: Each speaker cabinet features all-MDF construction with extensive internal bracings that virtually eliminate sound-muddying resonance.

Power Port Venting System: Each speaker has a rear-firing Power Port venting system built into its back plate for precise deep bass response. This venting system allows air velocity to slow gradually, vastly reducing air turbulence, and delivering greater bass efficiency than conventional ports.

Acoustic Resonance Control (ARC): Internal cabinet resonance can impart a "thick" character to voices. Polk's patented Acoustic Resonance Control port system overcomes this problem. In addition to the Power Port venting system, each speaker has a front-firing port that is tuned to suppress the internal cabinet resonance, resulting in smooth, natural midrange reproduction.

Anti-Diffraction Grilles: The floating anti-diffraction grilles minimize grille diffraction for spacious, 3-dimensional imaging.

Dual 5-Way Binding Posts: Each speaker has two sets of gold-plated 5-way binding posts connected by gold-plated jumpers. Using the dual 5-way binding posts, you can bi-amp or bi-wire the speakers.

Wall Mounting: The Power Port back plate on each speaker has a keyhole slot, allowing the speaker to be mounted on the wall using optional hardware.

Magnetically Shielded: The speakers are magnetically shielded, allowing you to place them near your television without distorting the picture.

Frequency Response Note: The overall frequency response is 40Hz-27kHz and the -3dB frequency response is 50-26kHz.
