When the star of your favorite Western flick draws and fires his six-shooter, does it sound more like a pea shooter? When the ravenous T. Rex storms across the screen, does your household pet yawn and watch lazily? If your TV's built-in speakers are sapping the energy and excitement from your favorite movies, shows, and video games, there's an easy fix. Polk Audio's SurroundBar 5000 Instant Home Theater upgrades the sound of your TV with a slim sound bar (just 2-1/4" deep) and a wireless subwoofer you can place anywhere in your room.
The SurroundBar 5000's slim profile makes it a great match for your wall-mounted TV.
Setup is simple. Use the provided optical digital cable to connect to your HDTV, game console, or Blu-ray player. Or you can connect older analog TVs and A/V sources via the sound bar's two stereo minijack inputs (adapter not included). The included subwoofer features a down-firing 6-1/2" driver for punchy bass, but best of all it's wireless, so all you have to do is plug it into an AC outlet, and you're good to go. Another nice touch: this system can learn the volume commands from your existing TV remote, so that's one less you'll have to keep track of.
Plan to spend any quality time with your favorite tunes? The SurroundBar 5000's built-in Bluetooth makes it easy. You can pair the system with any Bluetooth-compatible smartphone, tablet, or portable music player to stream your favorite songs wirelessly — great for those times when you want to play DJ with the music on your iPhone®, iPad®, or Android™ device. And the system even has advanced aptX® audio coding, which means you'll get CD-quality streaming when you use a device with this Bluetooth standard.
Add big sound to your TV without a roomful of speakers. Sound bars require minimal space and wiring, and their sleek designs complement today's flat-panel TVs. Most sound bars have their own built-in amplification, so you won't need to use a home theater receiver. Some models use advanced surround processing and carefully aimed speaker drivers to simulate the effects of a full home theater audio system.
Excellent product; must have....glad I went ahead and purchased this soundbar; incredible sound and the bass can really be felt while watching a great movie.
Pros: Everything; reasonably priced and excellent sound/bass throughout family room
Cons: A little concerned about the sleekness(smallness) of the remote; only takes a sofa pillow or slip between the cushions and it'll become a nightmare quickly.
Great Sound! Really enhanced the sound system on my TV. Found it easy to attached to my TV. Also can use the bluetooth to play music from my iPad or iPhone through the sound bar.
Pros: Great Sound, really brought the TV alive.
Not using bluetooth at this time , but glad for the option
Excellent sound and clarity for a TV and system without the need for extra speakers. Easy to set up and operate. Would recommend to anyone that did have the space for surround sound but wanted that cinema experience.
Pros: Easy to set up. Light and narrow enough to fit in any entertainment center.
This sound bar sounds great. Easy to setup and the wireless subwoofer is a good concept. The ability to switch from TV audio to Bluetooth in one click is very useful. However, the subwoofer will sometimes crackle if surrounded by a lot of wires due to electrical interference so be aware of that when planning where to place it.
Pros: Great sound, easy setup, and Bluetooth capabilities are a huge plus.
Cons: Subwoofer electrical interference.
No complaints at all with the product or Crutchfield. In fact, both exceeded my expectations. Was delivered to my door when they promised and I had it out of the box and set up in 15 minutes. Easy.
Pros: Sound, size, easy to set up and use
Sounds great in a small room. Much more bass rumble than I thought there would be from this thing. For the price range this is a great buy.
Pros: Small, simple, great sound and bass for smaller rooms.
Cons: Every now and then odd connection behavior happens and I have to turn on and off several times in order for the audio to work.
Needed to fix the horrible sound on my 55" LG LCD TV. This sound bar and subwoofer combo did the trick. Very impressed with sound quality and bass. Was able to sync my cable remote for all functions without to much trouble. For the money I think this is hard to beat.
Pros: Price, sound, size
Great sound and very easy to set up.
Pros: very easy to set up
The sound of this Polk Soundbar is a lot better than the TV speakers, I had in another house a complete 5.1 surround system with Polk Speakers, a nice sound/TV/Movie room. This Polk Sound bar doesn't come close to the real thing. I knew that when I bought this system, I am happy with what I bought, just don't expect too much.
Pros: Easy setup, better than tv sound
This is a nicely designed product-easy to set up, with good features like a wireless subwoofer and Bluetooth connectivity. It will improve upon the speakers in just about any TV, but it falls short of delivering high fidelity sound. There are clear enough highs, but it lacks the brightness and dimensionality of a fine pair of stereo speakers with high, mid, and bass drivers. The subwoofer compensates by laying down a rather thick bass, but it lacks nuance-you're getting the uuummph of the bass but not the sonic variations within. On the plus side, that subwoofer is beefy enough to shake your floor and walls if you enjoy that kind of sternum-rattling sound. And it can add a thrill to bass-heavy movie SFX. The speakers on the sound bar itself are several notches above cheap portable speakers for iPhones and the like, but probably won't measure up to a great car stereo system, let alone a true HiFi or high quality home theater.
I would recommend this to anyone seeking an improvement to TV speakers. You can play digital music on it easily with Bluetooth, but it doesn't take the place of a great set of speakers if you really care about sonic imaging, detail, and nuance. Still, since so much music is just played over lousy earbuds today, it will satisfy the average taste.
Pros: One of the least wide sound bars, it will fit nearly anywhere. Subwoofer is wireless and ready to belt out the bass. Includes all the connection wire you are likely to need for any setup, including optical cable.
Cons: Sound quality is good but not great; you will not be bowled over, just content. If you use a switched outlet to save standby electricity, it 'forgets' sound levels and starts up at an obnoxiously high volume. Can lose Bluetooth signal unexpectedly. No one knows what the status lights mean; no one.
I was doing a bit of research to Fonda suitable sound bar for my parents new house and came across this Polk audio SB 5000 and I scored!
Pros: Easy hook up and set up. Sound quality is amazing. Ease of syncing with tv remote. GREAT PRICE!
Cons: None so far
I love it!!! It suits my needs. Good quality, great audio. Definitely compliments my 55inch TV!
It is extremely easy to set up and has a very crisp and clean sound. The only thing I would improve is the Bluetooth connectivity. It is more complicated than need be and not always effective.
Pros: Sound, ease of set up, bass, functions
Cons: Bluetooth range and connection process
Sound is clear and loud. Perfect for a nice size bedroom!
Pros: Good sound, very clear.
This soundbar was a birthday gift from my family and it has totally changed my enjoyment of sports, movies, and tv. The speakers fill our basement with sound. The subwoofer (when placed against walls and furniture) reverberates and adds cinema-like sound. Paired with our Samsung plasma, it has easily surpassed my expectations. For the price, Polk strikes again!
Pros: SUBWOOFER!, slim design, easy hook-up
Cons: Some soft spoken dialogue is hard to pick up
I know it has many positive reviews (which is a major reason I bought this unit), but I have to say that the Polk 5000 has, for me, proven to be almost a total waste of money. Polk's customer service is friendly and helpful; but they are backing a product with very poor high-end response, no EQ controls at all and with a heavily compressed audio output. I use my purchase only as a sort of vague and dialed-down low-end addition to the already inadequate speakers in my 55" Samsung 7100. By boosting the highs on the Samsung speakers, by almost eliminating any output from the Polk sub-woofer and by blending the two sources together, I can create, at best, inadequate but tolerable audio. Of course, this approach prevents me from setting the Samsung on "External Speaker" -- and so, I cannot use the Dolby decording settings. It also means that everytime I want to change the overall volume level, I have to alter the settings on both the Polk and the Samsung. Definitely not what I hoped for. I am hugely disappointed.
Pros: If you call Polk, you get a real and friendly person.
Cons: The sound quality of this SurroundBar is terrible (that's really the only word for it). Overcompressed and with no crispness or output in the high end at all.
Great customer service!!!
Pros: Great customer service. Quick delivery
Cons: Came in original box...was a gift.
This system has great bass and is way better than the standard TV sound. The main concerns are with the Bluetooth connectivity and the high / dialog sound. The Bluetooth seems to cut out inexplicably when being 5 FT from the soundbar. The issue with highs / spoken dialog is real. It does not show itself all of the time but it is really bad when it happens.
Cons: Bluetooh, High sounds / spoken dialog not very clear at times
I purchased this system a couple of years ago and paid about $500.00 for it from another source. Crutchfield was out of stock at the time. I should have purchased it from Crutchfield and returned it.
The unit as, marcwis states, has very limited highs because it has no real tweeter, just a couple of tiny mid range speakers and the sub woofer puts out substantial bass of poor quality. The amp rating must not be RMS and it appears to be less than clean power.
These limitations make dialogue hard to hear.
I have recently replaced it with the small Bose Solo which has a decent, if limited bass, and much better highs making it easier hear dialogue. It does not deliver thundering bass as you would expect from a full powered 5.1 home theatre system, but at least it delivers clean, honest sound in a very compact unit...
Pros: Can't think of any...Perhaps not as poor at the current price.
Cons: Poor highs, boomy bass. Not entirely clean sound.
This sound greatly improves the sound of our Panasonic plasma. The Bluetooth sound link is only fair. The remote syncing looks like it is working but no response.
Pros: Really great sound with Bluetooth bass.
Cons: Remote syncing doesn't work.
We love this product the Bluetooth feature is amazing lets me JAM while cooking
We have a large room with room height that is almost 2 floor levels. This room also has quite a bit of windows and I could not go for a 5.1 setup. The sound bar actually fills the entire room with great sound. The speech is very clear and the action (crashes and blasts) are reproduced excellently.
This was my first Crutchfield purchase btw and the support has been great
Pros: Does not have HDMIs hub like some Panasonic soundbars, which can be very helpful if the TV is very closely mounted on the wall for HDMI access
Cons: None so far. but can Polk come up with a wireless sub that would go in the wall for this sound bar?
Easy to install; excellent quality; great sound.
After a few years of dealing with a low-grade all-in-one home theater, I finally upgraded to a soundbar. This Polk unit is highly reviewed and for good reason. The amount of sound that comes out of this system belies it's size. The audio does sound a bit comressed at higher volumes (like really loud), but it sounds great for TV/Movies and does a great job with Pandora as well. That diminutive little sub really lays down the bass, sounds bigger than it is.
Pros: Plenty of volume. Bass is fairly amazing given the actual size/weight of the sub. Wireless sub is super convenient too. Remote works well, but I don't use it, having programmed the unit into my logitiec universal. Massive upgrade to the horrible speakers on our Samsung flatscreen TV.
Cons: At really high volumes, the sounds gets a bit "compressed". sound stage isn't as wide as you'd get with proper left/right speakers.
Really good sound and yes, it is easy to set up - even bluetooth with my Apple iphone, ipad and Macbook. Strong bass. Easy to teach my Dish remote to control the bar along with my TV speakers (which I am using like a center speaker).
Four stars vs five only because, well five is absolutely perfect. ??
Crutchfield. Order processed quickly and shipment arrived without any problems.
Pros: Easy set up Good sound Bluetooth Strong wireless bass Works with existing remote
Cons: Ummm. Really none.
I wasn't sure that I wanted the wireless subwoofer. We bought the Soundbar for our third floor master bedroom. But when my daughter was watching some beach movie, I was blown away by the sound of the waves from the subwoofer.
Pros: Wireless makes is trivial to set up the subwoofer. Just need to flick the switch.
Cons: Was not able to sync the remote from Verizon (or the TV) to the Soundbar. But may be user error on my part.
Excellent sound quality, Bluetooth amazing for pandora or music from iPod
Pros: Easy to use, good price, excellent quality
This was my first purchase from Crutchfield in a few years and I completely forgot how terrific their customer service was. They answered all my questions about the Polk 5000 SoundBar and Subwoofer set. They helped me narrow down my search to the sound I was looking for and I'm completely satisfied with my purchase for the Polk 5000. This item was in my price range and the setup was very simplistic and the sound is terrific for my living room. No wires, no mess and terrific sound. The Polk Company takes pride in their products all the way down to the box the product comes in.
Pros: The Bluetooth sync is very quick, the sound is great from your phone or tablet. The SoundBar provides excellent sound and the added subwoofer pairs the TV's sound perfectly. It's a great mix for a small to large room. Easy installation setup, small remote. No hassles.
Cons: The cost of the Polk 5000 is $399 and provides the BlueTooth sync were the Polk 6000 didn't for the same price discounted price. Great Polk quality, great sound for the price I was willing to spend.
I have been working in home theatre for 11 years. This is the greatest sound bar I have heard in this price range. I would like to let people know if your Bluetooth feature doesn't work between 40-100 ft you might have one that is vad . I have run across these and Polk is very good about replacing.
Pros: Nice speak look. Little wires. Great lows.
Cons: Highs can be raspy at high volumes. A flawed batch has some on the market with bad Bluetooth feature.
I purchased this unit because of it's Bluetooth feature but it is flawed. The Bluetooth range on it is about 5-6 feet and any further than that it starts cutting out. I tested it with iOS, Android, and Dish all with the same results. That makes it fairly useless as a "wireless" speaker system if mounted up high or any distance from your source. I only gave it 2 stars because like other reviewers have stated, there really are no highs in the sound and the base is fairly heavy. I don't mind the heavy base because you can tone that down with the separate sub volume control on the remote but there's not much you can do with the highs. There are no "sound fields" to choose from to get a different sound out of the bar like other bars. The volume on the unit is very good and it played just fine without any distortion but for those looking for nice crisp highs you will want to look elsewhere. If this unit is going to be sitting on a shelf then you need to make sure you get appropriate cables with 90 degree ends otherwise they will get pinched as there is not much room for cable insertion (since Bluetooth is pretty much useless on this unit). Mine is being returned and the "hunt" for a decent sound bar will continue
Pros: Separate Sub volume on remote Wireless Sub Good volume levels
Cons: No range for Bluetooth connectivity Lack of crisp highs Thuddy bass - needs to be dialed almost all the way down Lack of any sound fields or adjustments other than Sub level on remote
a fine addition to our tv. we have a small family room, considered speakers but too small. the polk sound bar is working well. the base is overwhelming at times but is still very welcome. the small remote is weird. have not had success using tv remote (directtv). will talk to them about merging the two. would strongly recommend this for smaller areas.
Bose system broke, and then we realized how terrible stock TV speakers were. New Bose cost way more than we wanted to spend. This system does a great job allowing us to hear the voices. The wireless was simple to connect, the instructions were easy to understand, and the remote learning was helpful.
Pros: limited wires, easy set up, small footprint, big sound
Cons: not the best for music, but we needed it for TV more than music
Works as advertised and hook up was easy.
Pros: Great sound
Ordered the Polk 5000 over the 3000 because it offered the Bluetooth ability for streaming. Very pleased with the sound from both the bar and the remote speaker. Easy to setup and worked with out any issues. Really impressed with the ability to use my existing remote (Verizon) to learn ALL the functions so as to avoid having remotes all over the table. Love the sound and can now understand some of the words spoken on the shows! Item arrived on schedule and was extremely well packed.
Pros: Price, value, ease of setup, use of existing remote (learning), Bluetooth capability, remote speaker, and great sound.
I was looking for a soundbar to replace and old Sony surround sound system that was also a DVD player. I chose the Polk SurroundBar 5000 because it would work with my exisiting remote, had bluetooth, and was recommended by the Crutchfield Advisor. It was easy to get the Polk to work with my Harmony One remote and I love the bluetooth feature. The system has good sound and is better than my Sony Surround System. The bass is very good and it is almost to commanding and has to be adjusted to match the speaker bar but it does have it's own volume control. I wish the speaker bar had more treble and would have given the system five stars if it had more treble. Overall I am satisfied.
Pros: Good Sound Works with other remotes Bluetooth
Cons: Treble is low
got the sound bar for a small basement room just before xmas. it was easy to install and setup on the wall under the big screen. Sound quality is good- don't expect true surround sound quality. got the sound volume working with the tv remote without too much fuss. nice bass tones from the sub- woofer and can hear the dialog clearly (without having to crank up the sound volume) when playing a movie. could use some more treble. overall ...I like it.
Pros: easy set up, pretty good sound quality
Cons: power pack was large and difficult to conceal, still think all these soundbars are overpriced
Set up was very easy with the wireless sub. Adjusting the volume on the sub did take some work, and is necessary so you can hear the dialogue clearly. Watched first movie through Netflix and the surround sound was incredible in the room. The bluetooth is a nice option to play music from your phone as well very easily. This is my first Polk audio purchase, and am very satisfied.
Pros: Sound bar is slim, and fits well underneath TV, ease of set up, overall sound quality
Cons: Must watch that sub does not dominate sound experience
Looking for audio options to compliment a flat screen can be quite overwhelming. After a lot of research, I picked the Polk 5000 and am very pleased. Hook up is one wire, the wireless sub is terrific and the overall sound is very clean. It was worth the extra $50 to get the 5000 over the 3000. I hung my tv over a bookshelf and the soundbar sits on the mantle. It's only a couple inches high so it fits great and also can hide wires if you have some to hide. The separate volume control for the sub is cool, but the remote is very small so it could be easily lost between cushions. I do wish it had a little more treble but it certainly works well for a family TV, and kills any audio that is built into a flat screen. Well worth the additional expense if you enjoy sports, movies, etc. I'm not sure what the guy who ranked this a one star is complaining about, but everyone is entitled to an opinion.
Pros: Size, ease of set up, sound quality, value
Cons: Could have a tad more treble
This product is extremely easy to setup and the bluetooth is a real bonus. I wish there was control over the table, midrange, and bass, but overall the sound is very good.
Pros: Easy setup Bluetooth Good remote
Cons: no control over tone
The Polk SoundBar 5000 is the perfect system of a dining room, bedroom or other secondary viewing location. It fits perfectly under our 32" flat screen in the dining room and matches the tv's low profile. Two minor downsides: 1) the sub took a file to configure after coming out of the box booming; and 2) the AC power pack for the soundbar is very large and hard to conceal behind the soundbar.
Pros: Small profile Good Sound
Cons: Large power pack
Bought the soundbar so my wife can hear the TV when she's on the threadmill, which can be quite noisey. This polk 5000 is perfect. checked out other systems, and the price this beats the rest.
Pros: good powering sound
Compared this directly to a Bose Cinemate, since I unhooked that at my parents house and hooked this up in place for testing. Overall, it has good, tight bass and decent sound but I'm really disappointed in the highs. Gave it 3 stars for value.
Despite having no reviews when I bought this, I'm a huge fan of Polk and wanted a sound bar with some kind of airplay or bluetooth connectivity. Bass sounds decent for both TV and music. Highs sound better for music than shows. I sometimes have to turn the subwoofer way down to get clear sounding highs. Still thinking about returning this for something else.
Pros: Bluetooth streaming audio from iphone, decent bass for a small room, easy setup
Cons: The highs are not as crisp and clean as other sound bars that I've heard. Almost sounds like it needs a tweeter.
I'm generally the type of guy who researches everything I buy, but I opted to forgo doing so on this product (beyond watching the promotional videos) given that I'm a huge Polk fan. Needless to say there's a reason there were little or no reviews on this product to be found online. I'd steer clear it... On a positive note though, I have to hand it to the Crutchfield support team. They made swapping this out for another product (Boston TV30 -- love this one) a breeze.
Pros: Easy setup. Easy Bluetooth pairing.
Cons: Overly heavy base and a clear lack of mid's and high's.
excellent choice for small room..sound is clear and wireless subwoofer is a perfect
Pros: easy to set up, very few wires, excellent sound quality for the expense, bluetooth feature a bonus
Cons: none so far

Instant Home Theater (IHT): The Polk Audio SurroundBar 5000 Instant Home Theater (IHT) is a complete 2.1-channel home theater system comprised of a single self-powered speaker, a wireless powered subwoofer, and an IR remote control. The SurroundBar 5000 IHT utilizes two Polk 3D Audio technologies (Polk Digital Logic and SDA Surround) to deliver richer, fuller sound (with no rear speakers) to your flat-panel TV from a compact system with no complex hook-up or set-up.
3D Audio: Polk Audio's 3D Audio combines two groundbreaking, patented technologies to produce an audio environment that can only be described as 3-dimensional. Combining Polk Audio's proprietary SDA Surround technology and Polk Digital Logic processing technology produces a rich, enveloping listening experience. It reaches out beyond your TV screen to put you in the center of the action.
Self-Powered SurroundBar: The self-powered surroundbar features two 2.5"" full-range composite cone drivers powered by a built-in 160 watt amplifier. The speaker itself is lightweight in part because of the neodymium magnet structures in the drivers. The surroundbar features a black plastic bass-reflex enclosure with two rear-firing ports and a non-removable metal grille. The surroundbar can be placed on a tabletop or wall-mounted. It provides analog and digital audio connections to your television. The surroundbar requires AC power.
Wireless Powered Subwoofer: The wireless powered subwoofer features a down-firing 6.5" woofer in a bass-reflex (ported) cabinet with a down-firing J-port. The 6.5" woofer is powered by a built-in 120 watt amplifier. The wireless powered subwoofer receives it audio signal wirelessly from the system's surroundbar, so there is no subwoofer cable to connect. The wireless powered subwoofer requires AC power.
Bluetooth Audio w/ aptX: The Polk Audio SurrounBar 5000 IHT features built-in Bluetooth (A2DP) with aptX audio coding in order to wirelessly deliver CD-quality sound from your Apple device (iPod/iPhone/iPad), Android smartphone/tablet, or other compatible device to the soundbar system. You can pair up to 8 Bluetooth devices with the Surround Bar 5000 IHT (but only one can be playing at a time). You will continue to control your Bluetooth audio enabled device from the device itself (no control from the surroundbar or remote).
Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the Polk SurroundBar 5000 IHT.
System Controls: The SurroundBar 5000 IHT offers the following system functions; Power, SurroundBar Volume, Subwoofer Volume, Source Selection, and Mute. You can control these functions from the SurroundBar's touch-sensitive controls, included remote control, or your TV's remote control.
Sync: The Sync button is located on the back-panel of the SurroundBar. If the wireless subwoofer stops receiving an audio signal from the SurroundBar, press the Sync button to regain system connection.
Wireless Connection: The SurroundBar and powered subwoofer communicate with one another wirelessly. The SurroundBar sends the low-pass audio signal from your TV or connected source to the powered subwoofer wirelessly over an RF frequency. The SurroundBar and powered subwoofer come from the factory preset to work together. If the wireless subwoofer stops receiving an audio signal from the SurroundBar, there is a sync button on back of the SurroundBar to press to regain system connection.
Analog & Digital Connections: The surroundbar features one optical digital input and two stereo 3.5mm inputs to connect the system to your flat-panel TV.
Note: The digital optical output terminals of most newer flat-panel TVs only send an audio signal in 5.1ch when receiving Dolby Digital/DTS surround sound from the TV's built-in tuner, network connection, or connected USB device; and will output only 2ch stereo from sources connected to the TV via HDMI, or RCA (like your Blue-ray/DVD player or satellite/cable box).
Surroundbar Placement: The surroundbar should be centered under or above your flat-panel TV screen. The lightweight easy-to-mount single speaker can be placed on a tabletop or wall-mounted. It can sit on a flat surface because of its integrated rubber feet that enable it to rest securely. If your TV is wall-mounted, the surroundbar can be mounted right beneath it using the speaker's integrated keyhole slots (x2) on the rear-panel. The keyhole slots are spaced 19.75" apart. It is magnetically shielded for placement on or near any type of video monitor.
Wireless Subwoofer Placement: The powered subwoofer receives its signal from the surroundbar wirelessly, so it can be placed virtually anywhere in the room (up to 50' from surroundbar). It only requires plugging into an AC outlet.
Power Supply: Both the surroundbar and wireless powered subwoofer require an AC outlet connection using the supplied AC power supply and AC power cords.
Auto Power: When their master power switches are left on, the amplifiers in both the surroundbar and subwoofer turn on automatically when the surroundbar receives an audio signal. Both amplifiers turn off after approximately 15 minutes without an audio signal.

I am not sure, sorry. [ EDWARD C Aug 24, 2015 ]
I use a Harmany 650, and it controls the on/off and basic volume of my Polk 5000 just fine. I have not figured out (and don't need to) how it might control the sub-woofer volume. I assume the Harmony 700 would do the same. [ WILLIAM Aug 24, 2015 ]
The Yamaha has a optical audio output that can be hooked up to input # 1 on the 5000. You could also use a 1/4 inch to 1/8 inch adapter from the Yamaha headphone output and use the 1/8 inch input 2 0r 3 on the 5000 [ Scott May 10, 2015 ]
This is a powered soundbar, and isn't really designed to use with a receiver. However, if you wanted to connect this - the optical out on the receiver could likely be connected to the optical input on this unit. [ Jeff May 08, 2015 ] Staff
Good sound bar....great sound. The Bluetooth on this thing sucks sorry. Half the time it won't connec to my iPhone. [ GARY Dec 12, 2014 ]
Chris K - it took a few swings and misses, but my S5 is playing Pandora through the SurroundBar. All apps had to be closed in order to pair. Then I realized my headphones were still plugged in (was talking through headset). Unplugged after call and had to restart Pandora...then presto! So maybe make sure no other apps are interfering. Only negative - connection gets faint if further than few steps away. [ BRYAN K Dec 10, 2014 ]
I'm not sure about s5 but my wife s3 work great and my laptop as well. [ ELI Dec 10, 2014 ]
I apologize for the delayed response. Unfortunately, I don't know for sure. I would assume you can connect via bluetooth much the same way you can with other devices, but not 100% sure. [ DANA MAURICE Jul 23, 2014 ]
Patricia, From the manual: Pair and connect your Bluetooth device with the SurroundBar: 1. Make sure your Bluetooth device and SurroundBar 5000 are both powered on. 2. Activate the Bluetooth function on your Bluetooth source device. See your device's manual for instructions. 3. Press the Bluetooth source button from the SurroundBar remote or press the SOURCE button on the SurroundBar until the Bluetooth source is selected. The Bluetooth symbol will illuminate, then begin slowly pulsing as it looks for the paired device. 4. Your SurroundBar will now be displayed on your source device and available to pair and/or connect. Select the "polk sb5000" on your device to initiate the connection process. 5. After a short delay (5 seconds), the two devices should now be connected. You should hear a short tone and the Bluetooth source symbol will now be steady blue. 6. Play your music from your device! Note: If your device asks for a passcode to pair to the SurroundBar, enter "0000." This worked fine for me. Every time you want to use your Samsung device, you need to place the input on the soundbar to Bluetooth. [ James Jul 08, 2014 ]
I have an iPad and I used Bluetooth to sync mine. It was very EASY! [ JACK Jul 08, 2014 ]
Patricia, I only paired the Polk Audio Surround Bar to my phone. If I remember, you set both the device and the Polk Surround Bar in the pairing mode and they should connect to one another You may want to check the instructions for both the device and the Polk Surround Bar to see the information is in the instructions. I have contacted Polk Audio Customer Service for a different matter and they were very helpful. Hope this helps. Edward C [ EDWARD C Jul 08, 2014 ]
I haven't tried it because of cost. It says you can but you have to use what it specifies. [ Eugene Jan 27, 2016 ]
This soundbar does not have connections to add an additional speaker. I would recommend contacting an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat to discuss your system plans. They will be able to help determine the products we have that will fit your needs. [ Jeff Apr 15, 2014 ] Staff
Marc, Haven't tried this one. The sound bar has one digital audio optical input and two 3.5mm miniplug inputs. You can also sync a Bluetooth audio input although this range is limited to about 12-15 feet. If you want to use the digital input from one device with a TOSLINK optical to miniplug adapter to one of the spare 3.5mm miniplug input then I would say that will work if the adapter is sufficient quality. Crutchfield sells an AudioQuest TOSLINK adapter but there are no customer reviews for this. [ James Mar 21, 2014 ]
Can't not answer. Sorry I can't help. Ed [ EDWARD C Mar 19, 2014 ]
Marc, You will need a converter from the optical Toslink to analog audio required for the 3.5 mm input. You will also need a RCA male to 3.5 mm male cord to use to input the sound bar. This setup should work for your system. I am not allowed to include links to the items you need but they can be found fairly easily, either online or in some of the box stores. You could run from an output on your receiver to this soundbard. Analog & Digital Connections: The surroundbar features one optical digital input and two stereo 3.5mm inputs to connect the system to your flat-panel TV. Analog Connections: The surroundbar is equipped with two analog 3.5mm stereo inputs to connect your television (which may lack an optical digital output). If your TV is equipped with stereo RCA outputs, a minijack-to-RCA adapter is provided. The additional 3.5mm stereo input can be used to connect another audio device, such as your MP3 player. Digital Connection: The surroundbar also features an optical digital input to connect your flat-panel TV with an optical digital output (optical digital cable included). The surroundbar supports 2-channel PCM & Dolby Digital through its optical digital input. [ Jeff Feb 18, 2014 ] Staff
