Get rich Polk sound without taking up even one inch of floor space. The TC80i in-ceiling speaker, sold individually, features a flush-mountable circular cabinet that houses an 8" Dynamic Balance® woofer and a 1" dome tweeter. The tweeter's ball-and-socket swivel mount lets you aim the high frequencies for the best coverage in your favorite listening positions, while the woofer is offset by a 15º angle for better imaging and midrange clarity. You'll enjoy crisp, full-bodied sound. Pick up a pair for stereo applications, or even use the TC80i in a stealthy home theater setup.

With the TC80i, Polk has provided handy controls, so you can tailor the sound to suit your particular installation. The tweeter level switch lets you adjust the high frequency output to suit your room's acoustics. And the wall distance toggle switch allows you to flatten the bass response — ideal for avoiding a boomy bass sound if your speaker is installed near a corner. That's a lot of versatility for an in-ceiling speaker.

The TC80i is made from durable, moisture-resistant materials, so it's safe for use in a bathroom, kitchen, or even under roof eaves for stealthy outdoor applications. Voice-matched to Polk RTi speakers, the TC80i can be integrated into a complete Polk home theater speaker system for a seamless surround experience.

An optional in-ceiling bracket is recommended for installing the TC80i in a home with new construction.

Clear, crisp hidden sound

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have a 5.1 system using all TC80i speakers matched to a Polk PSW505 sub, a Sony STR-DA5300ES and PS3 for BlueRay (a must). The family room is a 16' x 20' with 12'-14' vaulted ceilings, many windows and open to the kitchen. Since I was limited to where speaker could be mounted, this worked best for my situation. I do not regret it at all, if fact, I prefer the clean look. Easy to mount but make sure to measure twice and cut once. It took about 20 minutes per speaker to install. My neighbors are suprised at the rich sound from the speakers and cannot believe they are mounted in the ceiling. Best of all, my wife loves the fact that the TC80i's are out of sight and that it sounds like the movie theater at home. The aimable tweeter and the woofer at an angle make the listen area easy to define. Best advice I was ever given and give, spend your money on great speakers because they will make a so-so amplier sound amazing. I am sold on Polk Audio and the Crutchfield experience has been nothing but positive.

Great ceiling speaker

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've used several lower grade inceiling speakers in the past to include the RC60i's. These TC80's are on an entirely different level- the sound is pretty insane, I kind of wish I would have used these for the front 3 speakers in my 7.1 system instead of just the back 4!!!

I also like the aimable tweeters, tweeter gain adjust, and bass adjust when you are close to a wall. Not many speakers offer these kind of features for this price point.

I will definately purchase another set of these for the living and dining room listening areas as they are every bit as good as most bookshelf speakers.

Well worth the price for a surround speaker

I have 3 of these for my 6.1 system and sound great! I have them paired
up with TC65i's in the front along with a Lci-C center channel speaker and a
DSW PRO 500 sub. I have always been a Polk fan but these speakers show
me what I have been missing. Spend the money up front on your speakers
ans they will reward years to come.

Sweet Suite Sound Pt 2

Written by: Nathan from KCMO on May 13, 2007

Got 1 of these for rear center speakers in my 6.1 home theatre suite - Yamaha HTR5850 6x100W amp. These are my first Polk Audio speakers and I am very impressed with the Polk Audio sound. Great imaging for movies and a total wall of sound in music mode. (My front speakers are TC265i and cheaper RC60i on Rear L&R.)

Very happy with the sound altogether...

Polk Audio TC80i

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Very pleased with these speakers. The speakers have good rich sound and easily fill my 900 sq ft living room. These in-ceiling have crips and clear high tone and good bass for in-ceiling speaker. As with any in ceiling/in wall speaker, bass should be augmented by a sub woofer. (NHT offers an in wall sub wich I have not heard.) It arrived on time as promised.

Mounting Options

Dynamic Balance Technology: Dynamic Balance polymer composite drivers are used for smooth wide-range response with low distortion.

Mid-Woofer: The speaker features an angle-mounted 8" Dynamic Balance, mineral composite polypropylene mid-woofer for deep, accurate bass. This 15-degree Offset Drive Unit provides more uniform coverage and better imaging by directing the midrange sounds toward your listening area. For a smoother response and improved durability, the woofer uses a butyl rubber surround.

Tweeter: The speaker uses a 1" Dynamic Balance, silk/polymer composite dome tweeter with a neodymium magnet for clear detailed highs. The ball-and-socket swivel mount lets you aim the tweeter in any direction to give you direct high-frequency control, resulting in excellent imaging even for off-axis listening positions.

Infinite Baffle Tuning: Infinite Baffle Tuning uses the virtual enclosure of in-wall space for superior bass response.

Moisture-Resistant: Durable, moisture-resistant materials allow you to install the speaker in a bathroom, kitchen, sauna, even under outdoor eaves.

Timbre-matched: This speaker is timbre-matched to the Polk Audio RTi Series for seamless, enveloping imaging when used in a home theater system. You can mix and match any of the TCi-series in-wall and in-ceiling speakers with the RTi Series high performance floor-standing and bookshelf speakers.

Terminals: The speaker features gold-plated spring post terminals.

Accessible Controls: The TC80i features technology that can tailor the sound for performance in difficult or unusual placement situations. The following controls are located on the front panel of the speaker (behind the grille):

  • Wall Distance Toggle: In-wall speakers excel when placed more than 2' from side walls. When the speaker is mounted closer than 2', the result is a "bump" in response between 50 and 200Hz. The speaker has a Distance Toggle Switch circuit that flattens the response and tunes out the "boominess" if mounted closer than 2' from a side wall.
  • Tweeter Attenuator: If the listening room is very reflective, with smooth sheetrock walls, hardwood floors, and non-cushioned furniture, the sound will overly "bright" and unnatural. In this case, you can engage the TCi -3dB Tweeter Attenuator (select the "Cut" setting) to flatten the room response without hindering higher frequency response for warmer, more realistic sound and more accurate imaging.

Mounting Options

Installation: The speaker requires an 9-7/16" diameter cutout with a depth of 4-1/2" behind 1/2-inch drywall. Once the hole is cut, the speaker can be dropped in and the Rotating Cams can be tightened, allowing you to secure the speaker to the drywall without any extra assembly. If you will not be mounting the speaker in drywall, make sure the wall or ceiling material can safely support the weight of the speaker before installation; the speaker weighs approximately 11 pounds.

Paintable: The grille and flange can be painted, allowing the speaker to match any decor. A clear plastic paint mask is included to protect the "unpaintable" speaker parts.

Frequency Response:

  • Overall: 32Hz-27kHz
  • -3dB Limit: 45Hz-25kHz
