Having trouble getting through movie night without nodding off and spilling the popcorn on the couch? Maybe it's time to upgrade your sound with Polk's Blackstone TL1600 speaker system. Ideal for small- to medium-sized rooms, this convenient package comes with all the speakers you need to get dramatic, engaging movie theater sound that'll keep your attention focused and your eyes glued to the screen. The four Blackstone satellite speakers and the center channel use some pretty advanced driver technology, so you experience impressively effortless sound from speakers that take up very little space. The package also comes with a powerful 50-watt subwoofer to add deep, rumbling explosions and room-thumping bass for all your favorite action flicks. And if you've got a new flat-panel TV, this system's stunning high-gloss black finish will make an excellent match.

Advanced technology produces astonishingly realistic sound
Polk's latest breakthrough is "Time Lens" technology, which aligns the drivers in such a way that all the frequencies reach your ears at the same time. It improves the speakers' soundstaging and imaging, so that you'll start to forget you're watching a movie and really feel like you're part of the action. This technology makes this system great for video games, too, because you'll be able to clearly pinpoint where sounds are coming from all around you, like monster roars or enemy gunfire.

Polk's enclosure design puts performance first
The satellite and center channel speakers also use an "acoustic lens" in their grilles to disperse sound waves in a way that makes your movie and music soundtracks sound larger and more open. And unlike a traditional port hole, these speakers have something called an "aperiodic-tuned rear port." It's more like a breathable membrane that controls air flow in and out of the enclosure, giving them the acoustic benefits of both a sealed and a ported enclosure, including better bass extension and a pleasing mid-bass boost. It also means you can place these speakers in the open or against a wall, and still get great sound.

Easy speaker placement
Each speaker comes with a keyhole slot in the back for easy wall-mounting. You can also use the discrete threaded insert to fit them to optional speaker brackets or stands. But no matter how you choose to set up your system, you can expect the kind of detailed, open sound that will make movie night way much more exciting.

Upgrade to a seven-channel home theater when you add a pair of TL1 satellite speakers to this system.

I would highly recommend this product! I am very picky when it comes to sound and had considered another brand( BOSE) but after making this purchase and hearing the sound I am MORE THAN PLEASED with Polk Audio. The price was well worth it too which I mated this purchase with a Denon Receiver worked GREAT!

Pros: Great packing of equipment(quality). Craftsmanship is top shelf too!

Cons: Hum coming from Subwoofer, not sure what fix would be but not a deal breaker!. Low level so not completely noticeable!!

This is Surround Sound!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Moving into a new house we decided to dedicate a room to becoming our media room; working with the team at Crutchfield I purchased an Onkyo receiver to power this speaker set with the goal of creating a cozy viewing room with excellent sound without overpowering the room; the results? Perfect. Aside from the usual quality packaging and easy shipping the Blackstone TL1600 was easy to set up and with the Onkyo's speaker calibration feature I was able to quickly tailor the sound to my liking. Speaking of sound, this is a very good set of speakers, I find the satellite speakers to do an excellent job of creating an immersive experience, the sound is clear, well balanced and crisp. The subwoofer provides that extra bit of oomph to movies and music though given the size of the room I have it turned down just a bit. The combined effect is an excellent experience; music and dialogue is clear, not at all muddy, bass heavy or shrill and bright, there is a nuanced sound so that even the quietest passages come through well without any hint of hiss or distortion. Overall, for the price this is a fantastic system, well suited for a small to midsized viewing room. We use it not only with movies and television but also listening to music as well. We're very pleased.

Pros: Easy to set up, clear sound, no distortion.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These work great in my living room. They fill the room with sound even at half power. The connections are just what I'd expect from a set of speakers. The mounting holes worked with the mounting brackets I bought. They look great and the price was excellent. Absolutely no problems.

Pros: Great price, sound, and looks. Had the connection and mounting options I needed.

Cons: None that I've noticed

Replacement for Samsung speaker set

Written by: Eric from Kentucky on August 15, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

What a difference these made when compared with the Samsung speaker set that came with the Blu-Ray receiver of the same make. Speakers are good looking on the wall and when coupled with the Onkyo TX-NR737 upgrade we also purchased the sound upstairs rivals the setup I have downstairs, which includes a pair of Bose 8.2 as the main channel. Richness of the sound environment has been increased tenfold and I can actually stand to listen to it. Not sure this set should be classified as an entry level surround set, since what I had before is outstripped by these, exponentially, in practically every area. The price might have been a bit more than I wanted to spend but with the sale on the Onkyo 737, it was in the budget.

Thanks to the Crutchfield team for setting us up, again!

Surprisingly smooth & full SQ

Written by: Ryan from Wenatchee WA on March 11, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Replaced an expensive Bose speaker w/Onkyo receiver package from a local retailer with this Polk just and a Denon receiver for half the price. The Bose system my parents purchased from a local retailer sounded terrible. The mids & highs were acceptable, as was the Onkyo receiver, but the bulky Bose subwoofer "module" was terrible. I've never heard a Bose system sound clear & full enough to justify the price. I had this Polk kit and Denon receiver installed just 3 days after ordering it and there was no comparison. This Polk package, when paired with a good receiver, sounds great. No matter the source used, the clarity and full frequency response put a grin on everyone's face. Couldn't recommend any higher, especially for the price. The 8" woofer plays plenty deep for the low rumbles of explosions in movies, yet crisp and smooth for detailed rock and jazz.

Pros: Sound quality. Visually appealing. Amazing bang for the buck ($).

Cons: Haven't found one yet.

Buy them now!

Written by: KermitDFrag from Florida on March 6, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers are small but put out big sound. I connected them to a Onkyo TX-NR727 tuner, and I have the say the sounds is outstanding. I'm watching movies in surround sounds and the rear sounds actually have me turning my head at times to see what's there. When I was playing the FFXIV, I got up a couple of times to see who was on my back patio...No one! It was the sounds from the game coming through the rear channel. If you're looking at these speakers, they're obviously in your price range, you will not be disappointed in them.

Pros: Compact, light weight, and big sound, all at a great price.

Cons: You don't have the speakers yet!

I went from a "home theater in a box" system to using these Polk speakers with a new Denon receiver and I could tell from the moment the speaker test was running that the sound was infinitely better. A very robust sound from compact speakers!

Pros: Compact design, great sound.

Good to very good speakers - weak sub

Written by: Anonymous from Ebensburg, pa on October 24, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed 6 of these black stone speakers which I find very good. I have a rather large room these are in and they seem to be doing a good job the first week. However, the subwoofer is less to be desired for. It makes a nice base sound but produces next to nothing for bass feel.

Pros: Great sound

Cons: Weak subwoofer

Want a dynamite home theater sound in a small package? That's what you get with Polk Audio Blackstone TL1600 home theater speaker system. Small, discreet speakers, with great design and sound you can't believe could be produced by such a modestly priced system. The subwoofer packs a great wallop too! The speakers were easy to connect to my Denon AVR, and in no time I had really terrific home theater sound! This is a great buy!

Pros: Modestly priced; high quality; easily installed. The total package.

Written by: SSound from Illinois on September 3, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great sound. Nice to have two satellite speaker mounting options. One warning though. I took off a star because the recessed mounting screws on the satellite speakers. IF you use DEFTECH PROMOUNT 80 speaker mounts, you are going to have to widen the hole that leads to the screw mount because of the way the promounts work. You will also have to add (lock) washers when using the promounts since the screw holes are recessed into the back of the satellite.

Pros: Sounds great. looks sweet.

Cons: Depending on your mounting hardware, you may have to "alter" the speaker mounting "hole"

Great Set of Speakers

Written by: SteveS from Lexington, Va. on April 16, 2014

These are replacing an older set of Bose speakers in a surround systems. These sound very full and balanced. I was able to test all of the systems in this price range at Crutchfield in Charlottesville. In this price range they were easily the best sounding set and even sounded better to me than some of the higher priced sets. Don't let the small size fool you, they have the ability to really fill a room with sound. My room is 15' x 15' with carpet and a Denon receiver, the sound is absolutely phenomenal, exceeded my expectations. The powered sub has plenty of power for smaller rooms and has plenty of adjustments, volume, crossover and phase switch to dial it in.

Pros: Great sound in a small package. Priced right.

Cons: None

Kicking system!!!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I set up this system this week in my loft. I have it attached to my Denon AVR-1613 My room is about 15ft x 17ft. I was extremely surprised by the sound that came out of the system. THe sound is very crisp and clean. I heard other reviews saying the sub was the weak part of the system. I do not feel this way. I could feel the sub shaking my couch. It was an incredible experience. If there was a weak part I would say maybe the center channel needs a little more volume over the satellite speakers but for the price you cant go wrong. Its amazing. The Cutchfeild advisors will not lead you astray.

Pros: Big speaker sound and price. Amazing system

Cons: None, Very happy with my system

Amazing value for the money! Whether it's movie and television audio, music, internet radio, or more, Polk really hit the sweet spot of price, sound, and build quality with these little gems. I'm an old analog guy from back in the day and despise the "sterility" of current digital music. These speakers are "warm", just like my adviser Ringo said they'd be ;-)

Pros: Size and shape flexibility for placement virtually anywhere in your room. Center Channel Speaker a perfect fit between the "handlebar-stand" of my Sony KDL-60R520A.

Cons: None

Sounds amazing, looks great. Very impressed with these speakers. I paired them with a Sony reciever. The bass is not overpowering and it mixes very well with the speakers. During one movie i had to look around because the clarity of the insects in the surround speakers was so real i wasnt sure if it was the movie or coming from outside.

Pros: Clarity, bass.

Cons: For the price, none.

Solid Speakers

Written by: JULMUZ from Austin, TX on May 31, 2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Let me qualify my review by saying my previous speakers were 8yr old out of the box home theater. I use them for watching TV and movies and the sound is clear and rich. They are a huge upgrade from my previous speakers. They have a great design and solid feel to them. The piano black looks really nice.

Wasn't looking for high end speakers but wanted speakers that we an upgrade from what I had. They are priced perfectly in the sweet spot. That's my two cents.

Pros: Clear and rich sound , solid build, and great price.

Cons: None so far.

Full sound, small size

Written by: Aurik from Dallas, TX on May 20, 2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I recently ordered a set of these to pair with my new 55" Plasma TV and Yamaha receiver to replace the el cheapo home theater in a box solution my wife had purchased 10+ years ago. Personally I would have liked to go with set of floorstanding mains with small satellites, but my wife quickly quashed that idea. These little speakers are fairly inobtrusive but bring big, clear sound to the party, and the sub gives you quite an OOMPH. I like watching action and sci-fi movies, and these speakers definitely bring the explosions to life.

Pros: Big, clear sound from a small package

Cons: None that I've found

I choose these based on performance and Speakers modern style. Installation was cake. I watched The Avengers again after instaling these speakers and WOW - what a difference. I even ordered 2 additional speakers for 7.1 perormance. I cant wait to hear how it will sound.

I won't bore you with a long total home renovation story, but due to it chose to replace a Bose Acoustimas 15 sytem in a small 14 x 13 tv/library room. The system is set up in 5.1 configuration and sounds awesome, the speakers are perfect for a room that size. I am thrilled with the system paied with a older Sony V555ES reciever. IMO this set up is far superior to the Bose system ( however it is only up and running for 3 time will tell. Set up was a breeze, however do not forget it is a RCA plug for the Sub, the speakers mounting threads are 1/4-20 which i did not see listed anywhere hope that save you some time.

Pros: excellent sound quality, and value....i would highly recomend to anyone

I just had a fantastic experience with Crutchfield Customer Service. I bought my Polk Audio Blackstone TL1600 speakers near the end of April. On the first of May a new offer came out that when purchasing the speakers I would have qualified for a set of exterior Polk speakers. Crutchfield is sending me the exterior speakers. WOW that is going above and beyond!!!

The speakers are fantastic and sound great. I have them paired with a Denon AVR-1912 Home Theater Receiver and the sound is fantastic. The speakers were really simple to install. Crutchfield included some wiring labels which I thought was kind of odd, but it turns out they are fanatstic help keeping all the wires straight.

Pros: Fantastic Sound Crutchfield Customer Service

TL1600 Blackstone (7.1 setup)

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Wow! Let me say that again - wow! I matched this Polk set with the Sony STR-
DH810 and bought an additional pair of TL1 speakers to finish out the 7.1
setup. The first movie I watched was the A-Team (BD). Lots of action and things
blowing up. [insert Tim The Toolman Taylor man grunt] The speakers
performed well, especially the surround with 50-cal bullets grazing my ears! The
subwoofer is down firing and gives plenty of bass. I have a bonus room instead
of a dedicated media room, so this system is perfect for any flick on family
movie night. The price is very reasonable and Polk & Sony have never let me
down in the arena of quality.

Polk Audio Black Stone TL Series: The Polk Audio Black Stone TL series loudspeakers (TL1) feature new innovations specifically designed to enhance compact speaker performance. The Black Stone TL1 series speaker is a two-way satellite loudspeaker utilizing a bass-reflex enclosure with a rear-firing port. The TL1 series loudspeakers are equipped with 5-way binding posts and offer various mounting options.

Dynamic Balance Driver Technology: Polk Audio's patented Dynamic Balance process allows Polk to design their drivers specifically for flatter frequency response, revealing the sharpest details and a more lifelike transparency, with absolutely no strain even at high volume. It's a bold, rich, warm, and lifelike sound.

Time Lens Technology: The sophisticated laser alignment of the "acoustic center" of the Blackstone TL tweeters with their accompanying drivers results in far superior imaging. The acoustic centers of the tweeter and mid-range woofer are aligned, creating a crisp accurate soundstage. The acoustic centers of the tweeter and mid-bass driver are located in the same plane for superior imaging, while the acoustic lens incorporated in the grille smoothes the tweeter's frequency response.

Drivers: The Black Stone TL1 satellite & center-channel speakers feature a two-way design.

  • 1/2" Silk Dome Tweeter: Each Polk Audio Black Stone TL1 satellite & center-channel loudspeaker utilizes a 1/2" silk-polymer dome tweeter for crisp, clear imaging, and smooth response that's never tiring.
  • 2-1/2" Long-Throw Woofer: The Polk Audio Black Stone TL1 satellite loudspeakers use a 2-1/2" composite long-throw cone woofer, while the TL1 center-channel employs dual 2-1/2" composite long-throw cone woofers. Each long-throw woofer utilizes Dynamic Balance driver technology (Polk's patented transducer design process) to produce a flat frequency response, with sharp detail, transparency, and the ability to play loud without strain.

Frequency Response: The overall frequency response of each satellite loudspeaker is 120Hz-22kHz and the -3dB frequency response is 135-20kHz. The overall frequency response of the center-channel speaker is 95Hz-22kHz and the -3dB frequency response is 125-20kHz.

Bass Reflex Enclosure: The Polk Audio Black Stone TL1 satellite & center-channel speaker feature a non-resonant composite enclosure with a curved design, time-aligned geometry, integrated acoustic lens, an aperiodic-tuned rear port, and a beautiful high-gloss finish.

  • Curved Design: The Polk Audio Black Stone TL1 loudspeakers employ non-parallel surfaces that not only lead to a stronger, more rigid and acoustically inert enclosure, but they also result in less audible coloration from internal surface resonances.
  • Integrated Acoustic Lens: An innovative acoustic lens incorporated into the grille produces a high frequency response so smooth that it delivers a balanced, realistic performance. An acoustic lens is molded into the back of the speaker grille and helps create imaging frequency balance previously impossible in small high-performance satellite speakers.
  • Aperiodic-Tuned Rear Port: An aperiodic-tuned rear port enables better blending with a subwoofer. This design combines the bass extension of an acoustic suspension enclosure with the mid-bass boost of a ported enclosure by controlling airflow through the port for better extension without distortion.
  • High-Gloss Finish: The TL1 enclosure features a durable, deep automotive-strength high-gloss finish that matches today's most stylish flat-panel TVs. The TL1 satellites & center-channel speakers are available in a high-gloss black finish.

5-Way Binding Posts: The Polk Audio Black Stone TL1 center-channel is equipped with one pair of 5-way binding posts to ensure a secure connection to many types of speaker cables and connectors. The binding post terminals will accept banana plugs (single or dual), pin-connectors, spade-connectors, and bare wire (18-12 AGW).

Rubber Feet: The Polk Audio TL1 satellite & center-channel speakers feature integrated rubber feet so you can sit the speaker on a stand or shelf securely.

Wall Mountable: The TL1 satellite & center-channel speakers feature keyhole slots on the back of the cabinet for wall-mounting the speakers without any additional wall-mount bracket (mounting screws not supplied). There is also a 1/4"-20 threaded insert on the back of each loudspeaker for mounting the speaker to the wall using an optional articulating bracket (sold separately).

Powered Subwoofer

8" Woofer: The Polk Audio powered subwoofer features a downfiring 8" long-throw Dynamic Balance poly-composite woofer with a foam surround for big, deep bass.

Built-in 50 Watt Amplifier: The down-firing woofer is powered by a built-in 50 watt RMS (100 watt Peak) amplifier.

Bass Reflex Enclosure: The Polk Audio powered subwoofer utilizes a bass-reflex enclosure with a down-firing port. The powered subwoofer's enclosure features heavy-duty, non-resonant ABS construction with an elegant satin black finish that creates the ideal décor accent.

Audio Controls: The Polk Audio powered subwoofer features the following rear-panel audio controls.

  • Volume: The powered subwoofer features a rotary volume knob to adjust the subwoofer's volume to your preference.
  • Low-Pass Crossover: The rotary low-pass crossover knob adjusts the frequency range over which the subwoofer operates. You can adjust the subwoofer's low-pass crossover between 80-160Hz to prevent mid & high frequencies passing through to the woofer.
  • Phase: The powered subwoofer's phase switch can be set at 0 or 180 degrees. Whichever phase setting sound louder of fuller at the subwoofer's crossover point is the optimum setting.

Audio Connections: The Polk Audio powered subwoofer features the following line-level & speaker-level audio connections.

  • Line Level: The powered subwoofer is equipped with a pair of gold-plated line-level (RCA-type) inputs for connecting the subwoofer/LFE output of your A/V receiver to the powered sub.
  • Speaker Level: The powered subwoofer is also equipped with two pair of speaker-level input terminals and two pair of speaker-level output terminals to connect the powered subwoofer between the front-channel speaker outputs of your AV receiver and the speaker terminal inputs on this system's satellite speakers.

Automatic Turn-On/Off Circuitry: The powered subwoofer features auto on/off circuitry which automatically turn the subwoofer on when it senses an audio signal. When no signal is present, the circuit turns the subwoofer off after 15 minutes.

Frequency Response: The overall frequency response of the powered subwoofer is 40Hz-160Hz and the -3dB frequency response is 45-160kHz.

No, but I get all my speaker wire from monoprice great quality and low prices [ JEFF  Aug 01, 2015 ]
mine didn't so I went and bought some monster xp speaker wire which is not very expensive and the speakers sound great, they are a good buy for this price because they sound like a more expensive surround sound system, and I also have klipsch surround system and they give them a good run for the money... [ DUSTIN  Aug 01, 2015 ]
No, you have to buy this separated. [ HARRY VEGA  Aug 01, 2015 ]
No, speaker wires are not included [ CHERYL  Aug 01, 2015 ]
No, speaker wires are not included. [ PAUL  Aug 01, 2015 ]
it does not come with speaker wire [ REYNA  Aug 01, 2015 ]
NO [ TONY  Aug 01, 2015 ]
I think you will need to have a receiver. In my setup I have a Denon AVR (Audio- Visual Receiver), and it drives the speakers. Whatever receiver you get will need to be at least what they call a 5.1, which means it can drive the 5 speakers plus the subwoofer. Good luck, I'm pleased with the sound I'm getting.b [ DAVID  Jan 16, 2014 ]
Yes you need a receiver [ SARAH E  Jan 05, 2014 ]
You will need some sort of receiver as each speaker has it's own set of two wires, and there is a separate subwoofer hook up. Some DVD players have these hookups, most do not. [ DAVID B  Jan 05, 2014 ]
