About the Polk Audio TSi200

Loren Barstow
The Polk TSi200s deliver open sound with wide staging and precise imaging. These speakers feature Polk's exclusive Dynamic Balance® drivers that undergo laser testing to find and eliminate resonance points, ensuring that everything you listen to sounds clean and accurate. The silk tweeter produces sparkling highs, while dual polycarbonate woofers pump out smooth mids and lows. The braced MDF cabinet fights resonance so the details in your music and movies shine through, even when you crank up the volume.

Just team these speakers with a Polk powered subwoofer for full-range sound. They also work great as surround speakers when used with Polk's TSi floor-standing models. And the TSi200 looks good, too. The woodgrain vinyl finish and elegant piano black top plate complement just about any décor.

Driver Technology

Dynamic Balance: Dynamic Balance is a proprietary Polk Audio technology using laser imaging to determine what combination of speaker materials create the least amount of resonance. Eliminating resonance in speakers results in a wide, smooth response and low distortion.

Klippel Optimized: Using a state-of-the-art Klippel Distortion Analyzer, Polk engineers were able to optimize the speaker structure and cabinet design for the best possible performance, even at extreme listening levels.

High Efficiency Design: Compatible with practically any AV receiver, these speakers produce sound that is open, spacious and clear, even when driven by modestly-powered amplifiers and receivers.

Bi-Laminate Composite Woofers: Each speaker features two 5.25" bi-laminate composite dynamic balance drivers which are light and stiff for deep bass response and low distortion. For high performance durability, each woofer uses a butyl rubber surround.

Silk dome Tweeters: Each speaker features a 1.0" silk dome dynamic balance tweeter for detailed highs. Each tweeter features Mylar bypass capacitors in the crossovers to extend high frequency response and improve detail and transparency.

Frequency Response: The overall frequency response is 43Hz-25kHz and the -3dB frequency response is 50-24kHz.

Enclosure Design

Quality Built Cabinets: The TSi speaker cabinets are extensively braced MDF with ¾" thick baffles. With pewter accents, a piano black top plate and removable black grille, TSi speakers look awesome and take up less than one square foot. All models are available in a choice of black or cherry wood-grain vinyl finishes.

Narrow Baffle Geometry: Narrow baffle geometry is a design that creates a sleek looking speaker with great sound. First the high quality cabinet is slender and tucks away easily in your room. The smaller-diameter speaker components are lighter in mass, translating to clearer sound.

Flared Ports: All TSi speakers feature critically-tuned flared ports. Flared ports minimize port noise ("chuffing") and ensure good low frequency extension with low distortion. With flared ports, TSi speakers reveal realistic, natural, full-bodied sound with rich bass. These TSi bookshelf speakers feature a rear-firing port.

Connections

5-Way Binding Posts: Each speaker has a set of gold-plated 5-way binding posts.

Mounting Options

Placement: Create an equilateral triangle between the speaker and the listening position. If you notice video distortion or discoloration, immediately move the speaker away from the video source.

Rubber Feet: Each speaker comes with four self-adhesive rubber feet so they will sit securely on your speaker stands or shelf.

Q
Are these powered or passive? Are they able to be wall mounted?
amy  Mar 06, 2022
7 answers
A
The TSi200 are passive speakers. As far as wall mount there is no mounting bracket on them. I made some small shelves sat them on that. Great sounding speaker.
don  Mar 07, 2022
A
They are passive and there are no mounting points on the rear of the speaker.
chris  Mar 07, 2022
A
Passive. You could possibly wall mount them, however there is no hardware included to do that
clark  Mar 07, 2022
A
The speakers are passive , so you have to hook them up to your amp/stereo. As far as putting them on the wall , they do not have built in brackets .
mark  Mar 07, 2022
A
They are not powered, you need a separate receiver or amplifier to power them. Yes, they can be wall mounted and they provide amazing sound and bass.
craig  Mar 07, 2022
A
These are passive speakers. They are heavy bookshelf speakers and would be difficult to mount on a wall.
ken  Mar 07, 2022
A
Not sure been so long. I have them on shelve in work shop. They sound great! Would highly recommend!

Q
(If I had room) why couldn't one of the TSI200be be used as a center. Has to be better than most of the bad centers for sale, no?
christopher  Jan 03, 2022
8 answers
A
Sure it can work. It works better if you have matching speakers. Everyone hears things differently. Tyler lee
tyler  Jan 05, 2022
A
Center speakers are turned differently than left right speakers. The TSi200 is usually sold in pairs. Polk makes center speakers I think would sound better in the same price range.
michael  Jan 05, 2022
A
I do not see any reason why this speaker would not work as the center channel, same exact drivers that they use in the matching center speaker . Like you said if you got the space for it . I have the center channel speaker it appears to be a little longer than the tsi 200 . And the logo would be sideways , imo so what . I have found on most 5.1 movies that the dialog is to muffled anyways so i just run my stereo on the game setting which sendspower to all 7 speakers that i have hooked up.
mark  Jan 04, 2022
A
The center channel is typically designed to capture the voice track of either above or below the video display. I would presume that the drivers in a center channel speaker are engineered for the typical frequencies that are present in voices. My center channel is a Polk Audio S35, and I am very satisified with its performance. Can't go wrong with Polk.
john h  Jan 03, 2022
A
The Polk CS10 is matched to these speakers. Excellent addition to these when used front left/right.
douglas  Jan 03, 2022
A
Yes, you can. However, good center channel is more tuned to mid-range where much of the dialogues compared to the fronts.
vijeyashankar  Jan 03, 2022
A
I don't see any reason why not.
joshua  Jan 03, 2022
A
If you place it vertically it's fine but if placed horizontally it will have a terrible dispersion.
juan  Jan 03, 2022
Q
Are these "efficient?" Meaning, sound quality (fidelity) not attenuated at lower volumes, like for easy listening. How do these compare to other speakers?

Handsome speakers, OK sound. I returned them and ended up with a pair of Elacs. Little more money but appreciably better sound imho.

You have to hook up a bluetooth transmitter to your receiver.

Q
Will the TSi 200's work in an enclosed book shelf? I plan on using them in a space that is 16"H x 17.5"W x 14"D. I am powering them with Denon AVR-X1300W. I also have a KLH sub and center speaker.

Mine are open to the room. I see no reason why your set up would not work well . Speakers sound excellent
gregory  Jan 09, 2018
A
Hello Randy... I have my 200's placed on either side of my TV in a large entertainment center. I'm not sure you would call it enclosed but the sound never ceases to amaze me. I'm sure there are better speakers out there but for the cost, I did not go wrong. I would say, in answer to you question, that yes they would work.
daniel  Jan 09, 2018
A
Yes they will work. They are a ported speaker so the lack of space behind may hinder bass response. I have the same receiver!!
david  Jan 09, 2018

Is 80W/Channel sufficient to drive these to a pretty loud volume?

Absolutely. Great speakers.
douglas  Jan 03, 2022
A
Yes.
gregory  Jan 09, 2018
A
Yes. I am currently driving them with a 100W/channel Yamaha receiver. I turn it up just over half and it's pretty loud. Note: Keep them a couple inches away from the wall for better bass response.

Q
can these be bi-amped? if so, does it make a big difference?
matthew  Aug 19, 2017
3 answers
A
Hello Matt H... sorry for the late response. No, as I understand Bi Amping, you'd have to have 4 sets of wiring poles and these do not... You'd also have to have a 7.1 system to do so. I only have a 5.1 system. In hindsight, I would love to try Bi Amping but I still have a great sound with these speakers... Love them. If you can do it, by all means, go for BA...
daniel  Aug 24, 2017

not sure about the amp: I run aprox 50 watts to each and they sound great for the size:
john  Aug 23, 2017

Hi--The 200's are NOT bi-ampable but the 300's are and yes it does make a difference and I have (4) tsi-300's bi-amped ---Carl

Can I use these speakers by placing them on their side instead of upright?
michael  Dec 26, 2015

i Have them standing up but i don't see why they wouldn't work laying on their sides
bruce  Dec 28, 2015
A
Yes, you can place these on their side, would likely work well on a bookshelf. Keep in mind that for best sound they need some space behind them for the rear port.
paul  Dec 27, 2015

absolutely yes

No problem these speakers are great !,,,

THey would b better as rear set however if your room is not to large they would work fine. They can't b by amped
darryl  Dec 17, 2015
A
Yes sounds great for my family using them as left and right front also using sub woofer
ross  Dec 17, 2015
A
Yes, absolutely. I used them with a 7.1 sound system in my TV/theater room. They create a big sound with excellent quality, yet are small enough to place on a shelf. They are a good by for a reasonable cost.
dorwin  Dec 17, 2015
A
Mike- I bought 3 pairs of these Polk Audio speakers to bring sound to our microbrewery production room and tasting room. Roughly 2750 squ. feet of open space. I checked the specs to see that they have an 89db efficiency and have a good frequency handling range. We are using them with a Polk Audio powered sub to reproduce low and mid-low frequencies better. We will power them with an amp that can give us a main and aux zone control and the amp is rated to 150W per channel They are described as bookshelf speakers, but checking speaker dimensions, are fairly large. I would recommend an above average viewing room for these speakers. My caution is to ignore placement instructions that advise hanging speakers like you might a picture frame, that is, flush with the wall. I believe that a ported speaker, as these are, require a bit of clearance to the wall to allow best utilization of the port. Whether you purchase this model speaker or not, you can't find a better sounding speaker for your money than Polk Audio.
greg  Dec 17, 2015
A
They will. But if you want earth shaking rumbling sound effects from your movies, you may need a subwoofer in addition. I have these as mains in a 13x16 room and they are great. I hear details I've never heard in my music before.
josh  Dec 17, 2015
A
Yes, these speakers are wonderful as main speakers for left and right. Music, voice, and movie soundtracks are clear and uncolored, with very good presence. A pleasure to listen to. I recently bought a second pair to use in another room. You can also find many glowing reviews on-line with a search such as "polk audio tsi200 bookshelf speakers review".
bill  Dec 16, 2015
A
i am using them in my shop . I am very satisfied with polk speakers
herb  Dec 16, 2015
A
They work great as my main front L and R speakers. I also use the TSi100s for the rears, a little overkill though. Will depend on the size of the room. The room I am using these in is maybe a 20x25 space. These will work in a bigger room and probably sound better than they do in my small living room.
christopher  Dec 16, 2015
A
Yes, that is how I used them.
ryan  Dec 16, 2015
A
They work great - big clear sound, fills up the room. Both the music and movie sounds are rich. I recommend.

Q
I have a vintage pioneer stereo receiver model SX535 with 20 watts per channel into 8 ohms. Would these speakers be adequate, or under / over kills for the receiver?
alex  Dec 09, 2020
2 answers
A
Adequate. They can obviously handle more power than your receiver can push but will still sound great regardless. Maybe add an external amp to help out??
charles  Dec 11, 2020
A
I believe that you can under power a speaker, a crutchfield tech would be the person to ask this question. If underpowering is a legitimate concern you would definitely have that problem with these speakers. I can tell that I'm pushing 2 of these with a Yamaha reciever 120 watts per channel and they handle it incredibly well. I've recommended these speakers to many people, personally I wouldn't disrespect these speakers with a low watt amp because they are capable of so much more. You should consider buying a new reciever. Also buy all of your stuff from crutchfield because warranty and technical support team is like nothing else I've experienced.

Do not know about wall mounts ? I located the studs and installed high end L brackets to support shelving.

I don't know if there are wall mounts. I bought mine to be on the floor. I purchased some adjustable speaker stands on ebay that puts the speakers about 7" off the floor. Seems to do the trick for me. These are great speakers!!! Sorry I could not provide info on wall mounts.

dianne  Mar 18, 2020

Yes. I've had mine for about 2 years now and they get better the more they are used. Great bass and midrange. Very pleased with mine. Using mine for the rear surround. I have the RTi A7 Towers as the fronts.
aaron  Mar 17, 2020

Stereo comes from the fact that our ears (two of them) experience the aural world around us, placing different sounds coming from different points in space. Stereo Systems use Two Speakers (Left & Right) and More to reproduce that naturally occurring 3-dimensional experience in music. Hi-Fi - High Fidelity is the innate quality of that reproduced sound. But remember that in this age of CDs or music files...the quality of the AUDIO FILE determines the amount of aural information gets passed on to the speakers. The Lower the quality of the Music Source, the less Aural Qualities you will be able to experience. For instance: Think of the softer mid-range and high range frequencies of a piano. The Higher the Fidelity of the recording/File, you will hear the actual soft 'plink' of that high note when the hammer strokes the string. The lower the Fidelity of the Recording, you only really hear the 'click' of the piano key hitting the stop. I bought these speakers because they have a handsome look. And the price didn't make the Banker in my wallet scream in abject pain. In some cases, I found that a few of my CD's needed to be replaced with Higher Quality Downloads. Then I heard more of the music in the background than I heard before. Oh...and you don't really need to absolutely sit EXACTLY in the center of the room to enjoy good music over good stereo speakers.
lonnie  Mar 17, 2020
A
Yes. 2 speakers, each having 3 drivers, and ported (bass reinforcement opening) in back. Connect each speaker to one channel of a stereo amplifier to obtain stereo sound.
robert  Mar 17, 2020
A
Yes. I have these speakers attached to a stereo system and they perform very well. For a small to medium-sized room, they work well.

Yes. I'm very pleased with mine.

Hi Marcos, I am very happy with these Polk speakers. The stereo sound is great !!! In my opinion, these are a great investment for the price. I wanted good sound at a good price. I really love these, and the staff at Crutchfield was very helpful. These Polk speakers look and sound great. Ron
ronald  Mar 17, 2020

These speakers sound accurate and clean. If you are using them as fronts for home theatre, best if sub woofer is also used
thomas  Mar 17, 2020

Yes, they are a good sounding bookshelf speaker at a great value, I use a sub with them.

Q
Should I use these for front and surrounds in a 20X24 vaulted great room or should I go with TSI 100 s for surround?
mmurphy  Feb 07, 2020
6 answers
A
Ts100 Way to small for that room
martin  Jul 03, 2020
A
Thats a big room, if it were me I would go a lot bigger for the front speakers and perhaps use the TS200 for surrounds. Either way bigger is better.
jan  Feb 07, 2020
A
TSI 100 make perfectly good surrounds and anything else as long as the power (watts) fed to them are not exceeded (usually listed as maximum power rating) TSI 200 has same tweeter, more bass, more power handling, but may be more than needed if you get a subwoofer also. The amp power setup decides this. The Polks are both about average power hungry. YMMV IMHO
robert  Feb 07, 2020
A
I believe that the TSi 100s would be ideal for surround speakers for your large vaulted room, but if you are looking for theater-like sound levels from the front speakers, perhaps something larger would be more appropriate. I use them in my office with an Onkyo receiver and a Sony 4K TV, and they are terrific.
donald  Feb 07, 2020
A
I purchased Amish made stands that hied the wires in my room. Basically two simple legs arising from the base so as not to impede the rear sound deflection works well. As I recommended in my previous post I would use the 200's, they have amazing sound for the size.
michael bruce  Feb 07, 2020
A
I use them as a front stereo in a 20x20 size room with a vaulted ceiling and the back deflection makes the 200's sound sensational. I f you want sound around I would stay with the 200's, especially if you like robust sound.
michael bruce  Feb 07, 2020
Q
I need speakers for a small theater room. It's 10'X10", with 9' ceiling. Would these work well as Left, Right, Center and Rears? I've always had tower speakers set in larger rooms, so this smaller room has me a little concerned.

They should be more than enough. Can,t go wrong especially with Polk.
gerard j.  Jun 28, 2016

I am using these af Front left and Right speakers in a room that is 15 by 23 with 8 foot ceillings. I also have the cs10 center channel and the psw10 powered subwoofer. The floor is carpeted and I have typical furniture, couch, loveseat and a couple recliners. The AV receiver is an Onkyo TX SR333. The sound is frich an full and for me anyway with this combination of spearkers is more than enough to handle what I want. The primary usage is for movies and tv. I also have played music through this setup. I do not play the system at wall shaking levels. I have had this setup for about eight months now and I am very satisfied with the performance.
keith  Jun 28, 2016
A
I use these speakers in a 18x24 living room. Great sound.
kevin  Jun 28, 2016
A
My home theatre is in a similarly-sized room, about 15x8, with 8' ceiling. I only have two of these speakers, so it's only playing stereo, not surround. But I'm very pleased with it.
matthew  Jun 28, 2016
A
I had these as my right and left channel speakers sitting next to the tv, a center channel, and two tsi100s as surrounds plus a couple subs. The room was roughly 20 x 15 with 8 foot ceilings, not including the dining room and kitchen area. I received numerous compliments on movie nights and parties as to how loud and clear my set up was, everything is Polk in my house and I would highly recommend them.
ramey  Jun 28, 2016

I use the TSi200s in a small room about 10x10. They sound great, really fill the room. Frankly, they would work in a much larger space. They have great high and mid range and their bass range is still very good.

I purchased them for our breakfast room/kitchen and have been pleased
joseph k  Jun 28, 2016

I have these speakers in our home office,15 x 16 and they are more than sufficient. They definitely would work well in your smaller room.

Q
Will they wook with tsx 110b speakers in a surround system ?
david  Feb 13, 2014

A
These are full range speakers and for the size they develop good base, and have a very bright mid and high end. I am currently using them for two channel sound with a 30 year old NAD 7175 PE receiver, only listening to music.
richard  Feb 17, 2014
A
Yes
jim  Feb 14, 2014
A
I have them working well in a 7.1 surround system, balancing the Bass is at times difficult, but I suspect this is far more due to the nature of the audio mixing on some discs and certainly not the speaker.
