Overview

Our take on the Polk Audio TSx150C

Bring your movie soundtracks and TV shows to life

Crystal-clear dialogue. Subtle soundtrack details. Lifelike special effects that match the on-screen action. That's what you can expect with Polk Audio's TSx150C. This center channel speaker's two 5-1/4" Dynamic Balance® woofers and 1" silk/polymer dome tweeter deliver full, punchy sound for a thrilling home theater experience. And its reversible, angled-top design means you can invert the speaker for placement on a low shelf, directing the sound toward your ears for better performance.

Designed and built for exceptional performance

Polk carefully builds their TSx-series speakers using advanced manufacturing techniques and high-quality materials — they put a lot into them so you get a lot out of them. Each one boasts Polk's exclusive Dynamic Balance® drivers — a bi-laminate design of fiber-infused polymers sandwiched together to form a strong yet highly efficient lightweight cone for natural, low-distortion sound. Polk puts these advanced drivers through extensive testing to find and eliminate resonance points, ensuring that everything you listen to sounds clean and accurate.

Polk also paid special attention to the TSx crossovers, using a high-performance design with premium parts like Mylar bypass capacitors to deliver smooth and extended high-frequency details. Even the cabinets themselves are built to sound better, using non-resonant MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard) construction to help reduce audible coloration.

An excellent value at the sale price. Purchased to better match new Polk TSx440t front speakers. My old Polk CS-100, smaller center channel speaker, had served me well for over 20 years.

Pros: Sounds great with 5.1 system. Use it alone with some TV programming for a much fuller sound than the TV speakers provide.

Cons: None

Quick, convenient upgrade at a good price

Written by: Jud B. from Philippi, WV on April 10, 2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

When my previous center channel speaker failed, I was looking for a reasonably-priced replacement that would also represent an obvious upgrade in sound quality. This unit fit that bill very well. Installation is a complete no-brainer (connect the same two wires!). Free shipping was quick and the price of the unit was good. No regrets thus far, and I expect none.

Pros: Price, sound quality. I read the specs page carefully to ensure that the unit would fit. I did, and I am pleased with the unit's appearance, which is understated--I want to see my TV, don't want to be distracted by garish speakers.

Cons: None, given the realities of my situation (price was a concern).

This speaker performs very well. Dialog is now crisp and clear. My wife was impressed with the difference which is saying a lot. As a bonus she felt the speaker was very attractive and added to the decor in her living room... win win for me.

Pros: Excellent sound and appearance.

Cons: Not really a con.. but it was bigger than I had imagined..

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Let me tell you, I started putting a system together on a budget. I started with 2 two bookshelf speakers by polk, TSx 110Bbookshelf speakers, and I hooked them to a 20 year old JVC receiver. The sound was really great in my bedroom. After some time I upgraded to a Yamaha RX-A550 and the sound was okay. I then upgraded to some TSx 330s for left and right, I added a PSW 10 subwoofer, and the sound was just okay. I was kinda concerned when I ordered the TSx150. Boy was I wrong, this thing crystalized the sound I was seeking. Buy it, you won't be disappointed!

Pros: Excellent sound separation and presence.

Cons: None.

I bought this speaker basically because it looked like a quality speaker and I got a super deal on it. As soon as I installed it and heard the great sound coming out of it I knew it was a quality speaker. I am using it with two bose 701s as front of our surround and it works great with direct/reflecting speakers !! the dialogue and background are clear and precise. My wife even noticed a big difference in clarity. You wont be disappointed this speaker.

Pros: great sound and works well with direct/ reflecting speakers.

Cons: none

My first center speaker was purchased along with a laser disc player in the late eighties. I have had four since. The Polk 3-way is the best by far. I quit using the speakers on the flat screen it is hard to go back to that hollow sound after listening to this speaker.

Pros:

Cons: Only con I have is I keep answering my front door and iPhone because of the clarity. I'll live with it.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

First, let me start off by saying that the customer representative researched my desired specifications and matched this speaker's timbre to my room and the rest of my system so Kudos to Crutchfield employees! Product arrived on schedule and was easy to set up with my Onkyo home theater receiver in minutes. Our 1990s center channel speaker just wasn't able to deliver clear voice channel separation for television viewing so my wife was very pleased with the new sound. In the end that is the important thing. Happy wife, happy life! Thank you Crutchfield.

Pros: Easy set up. Well matched to my other speakers. Great sound. Knowledgeable Customer Service Reps

Cons: None.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Purchased as a part of a surround sound system I put together. I am very pleased with this center speaker. It is attractive, sounds great and I like the flexibility of "mounting" it with the slanted back. I like that they offer it in both black and Cherry finish as well. I picked the Cherry as it went well with my other speakers and adds some class to the system. The sales/technical people at Crutchfield were great! I've been a customer for over 30 years and it is their great staff and products that keep me coming back!

Pros: Sounds great, compact, nice finish, flexible placement

Cons: None

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Love this speaker. It replaces one in a 10-12 year old theater sound system. I also replaced the tuner and sub woofer. Now music is outstanding as is any BR/DVD. The dialog is not crisp and clear not muddy and hard to understand at times as it was with the old speaker. Crutchfield did there usual stellar job in delivering it promptly. Very pleased with the unit and the service.

Pros: Love how clear distinct the dialog is from normal TV and fantastic sound dialog from movies and BR/DVD. I also love the idea that it can be turned upside down to "aim" the sound up.

Cons: None

Great Job Polk!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this to match my TsX 330T's and WOW, what a difference! This is my first real home theater setup and I didn't realize how important the center channel was until I got this one. The vocals and dialogue are clear and present. My Onkyo receiver did a great job with the Audyssey setup and got all my speakers blending nicely. Crutchfield was having a sale on Polk speakers and I got it at a great price. One thing just to help others out is that this is a little bigger than I anticipated, meaning that I had to rearrange my TV so this could fit in front and below it (my own fault for not measuring). Just make sure you pay attention to dimensions if you are somewhat limited on space.

Pros: Great sound and an essential piece to a great sounding home theater. Solid build and nice finish.

Cons: None yet. Just hope it holds up.

Great center channel speaker!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Brilliant dialogue capabilities, very natural sound. Can handle low end grunt. Love that the speaker can be turned upside down to aim UP if the speaker is located below the TV, which is very likely. Works seamlessly and sound matches perfectly with Polk TsX 220B Bookshelf speakers. Excellent front trio for home theater usage.

Pros: Aiming UP design, sturdy build, great sound quality!

Cons: None

Driver Technology

TSx Series Loudspeaker: Introducing the TSx Series of loudspeakers from Polk; stylish and quality-built for high performance. The high efficiency TSx Series loudspeaker features a unique curved enclosure wrapped in a wood-grain vinyl. The loudspeaker employs Dynamic Balance tuned drivers and tweeters for realistic mid-range, deep, well-blended bass, and incredible detail - for a classic Polk sound that is naturally open, spacious, and clear.

High Efficiency Design: The TSx Series center-channel loudspeaker can be driven by practically any electronics, even the most modestly-powered amplifier or receiver. Whether you're connecting them to the newest digital receiver, or to your vintage amp, the TSx Series loudspeaker can produce sound that's spacious and clear, enveloping and realistic.

Dynamic Balance Drivers: The TSx Series loudspeaker uses Polk's Dynamic Balance Driver Technology for great sound. Dynamic Balance is a proprietary Polk Audio technology using laser imaging to determine what combination of speaker materials create the least amount of resonance. Eliminating resonance in speakers results in a wide, smooth response and low distortion. Using just the right materials enables Polk to tune out performance-robbing resonances before they occur.

Klipple Optimized Motor: Klipple Optimized Motor employs a laser and sophisticated software for large scale analysis of the TSx Series loudspeaker's drivers in motion. Using this state-of-the-art laser and software process, Polk engineers were able to optimize the speaker's motor structure, voice coil alignment, and suspension to yield the best possible performance.

Silk/Polymer Dome Tweeter: The TSx150C center-channel loudspeaker features a 1.0" silk/polymer Dynamic Balance dome tweeter with a powerful neodymium magnet structure that delivers clear and detailed highs for realistic reproduction of vocals and instruments, without fatigue.

Bi-Laminate Composite Woofers: The TSx150C center-channel loudspeaker features two 5.25" bi-laminate composite Dynamic Balance drivers which are light and stiff with exceptional damping. These Dynamic Balance bi-laminate composite cone woofers use butyl rubber surrounds, polyamide voice coils, massive motor structures, and high-temperature aramid fiber spiders to create a driver of exceptionally high efficiency, clear bass, better linearity, lower distortion, and greater durability.

High Performance Crossover: The loudspeaker employs a high performance crossover system for optimum blending and time alignment of the overall speaker. Mylar bypass capacitors are used to reveal extended high frequency details.

TSx-Series Timbre-Matched: All Polk loudspeakers are timbre-matched within their series, designed with the same components throughout, to achieve seamless speaker-to-speaker blending effects in multi-channel systems.

Frequency Response: The TSx150C center-channel loudspeaker has an overall frequency response of 53Hz-25kHz, while the -3dB frequency response is 63-24kHz.

Enclosure Design

Curved MDF Cabinet: The TSx150C center-channel loudspeaker utilizes a unique curved cabinet design which creates a stronger, more rigid and acoustically inert enclosure. The elegantly curved side panels, which create non-parallel surfaces, reduce unwanted internal standing waves for less audible coloration. Non-resonant all-MDF construction, with a 5/8"thick baffle, ensures cleaner, clearer, more lifelike sound quality.

Note: The TSx150C center-channel loudspeaker is available in either a black or cherry finish.

Flared Port: The TSx Series center-channel speaker features a critically-tuned, rear-firing flared port. The flared port improves air flow and minimizes port noise ("chuffing"), while ensuring good low frequency extension with low distortion. This flared port design lets the TSx speaker reveal realistic, natural, full-bodied sound with rich bass.

Anti-Diffraction Grille: The computer modeled anti-diffraction grille minimizes grille interference, so it doesn't get in the way of your sound. This black cloth grille is detachable.

Connections

Gold-Plated 5-Way Binding Posts: The TSx150C center-channel loudspeaker features gold-plated 5-way binding posts for excellent signal transfer. The 5-way binding posts will accept bare wire (up to 10AWG), pin-connectors, spade-connectors, and banana plugs (single or dual). The speaker terminals are color coded for easy identification between positive (red) and negative (black).

Mounting Options

Center Placement: The Polk TSx150C should be centered above or below your flat-panel television. Not magnetically shielded for use with older CRT televisions.

Reversible Design: If the speaker must be positioned below ear level, you can turn the cabinet upside down, allowing the drivers to fire upward.

Rubber Feet: The center-channel speaker comes with self-adhesive rubber feet so it will sit safely and securely on your speaker stand or shelf. The rubber feet add approximately 0.625" to the height of the speaker.

Wall Mounting: The TSx150C center speaker does not feature any type of wall-mount bracket or hardware. The optional PinPoint center-channel bracket (121AM15B, sold separately) can be used to wall mount the speaker.

2 questions already asked

75w RMS should be quite sufficient to drive this speaker. [ CECIL W  Mar 29, 2015 ]
this should be adequate. I have a Yamaha receiver 7.2 with 75W and it drives this speaker well. I love the speaker sound. Good choice! [ Selwyn  Mar 27, 2015 ]
Hi Robert. There are no mounting brackets and it has pretty good weight. Also it has a decent amount of depth, so it'd stick out quite far from the wall. I'd imagine not. But I don't doubt your ingenuity. [ JOSHUA  Jul 01, 2014 ]
you need a shelf [ MARTIN  Jun 25, 2014 ]
There are no mounting holes or brackets on the speaker itself and it doesn't come with any mounting hardware. If you want to mount it to the wall you will have to find a special shelf or bracket to do so. Just keep in mind the depth and weight of the speaker. Hope this helps! [ JOSHUA A  Jun 24, 2014 ]
This is not mountable. However, you could put L-brackets on the wall and set this on the brackets. It is a great sounding center speaker and worth the purchase! [ LEHAN S  Jun 23, 2014 ]
I don't know because we never intended to wall mount . Tech reps at Cruchfield should know or will find out. [ WILLIAM  Jun 22, 2014 ]
