Go ahead, turn it up! Then sit back and enjoy the lifelike vocals, snappy percussion, and surprisingly full-bodied bass response that Polk Audio's TSx220B bookshelf speakers deliver. Their 1" silk/polymer dome tweeters provide clear, spacious highs that stay gentle on the ears, even at higher volumes. And their 6-1/2" Dynamic Balance® woofers pump out impressive bottom end that'll keep your tunes rocking. They make a great choice for stereo music listening or a home theater system in small- to medium-sized rooms.
Polk carefully builds the TSx-series speakers using advanced manufacturing techniques and high-quality materials — they put a lot into them so you get a lot out of them. Each one boasts Polk's exclusive Dynamic Balance® drivers — a bi-laminate design of fiber-infused polymers sandwiched together to form a strong yet highly efficient lightweight cone for natural, low-distortion sound. Polk puts these advanced drivers through extensive testing to find and eliminate resonance points, ensuring that everything you listen to sounds clean and accurate.
Polk also paid special attention to the TSx crossovers, using a high-performance design with premium parts like Mylar bypass capacitors to deliver smooth and extended high-frequency details. Even the enclosures contribute to great sound. Their attractive cabinets use non-resonant MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard) and non-parallel curved side panels to create a rigid, acoustically inert structure that effectively reduces audible coloration.

Pros: Size and sound
Speaker reviews are subjective and audio beauty is in the ear of the beholder. That said, I like these speakers because they sound clear and musical. I listen to classical, jazz, and occasionally crank it up for an old Fleetwood Mac or Elton John tune. The sound is well defined, and very comfortable to listen to. They are well made and a very good value.
Pros: Clear, musical sound.
Cons: I really can't think of any.
Avid hi fi enthusiast since I was 16 and bought my first pair of Advent loudspeakers and a nice receiver and turntable. Still have my original equipment (plus a lot of other vintage and new equipment). I paired these great little Polks with my Advents from the 1970's to improve the hi frequencies and smooth out the overall sound. The surprise came when I turned off the Advents to listen just to the Polks and they were excellent. Not quite as much bass as the Advents but for their size and price they pack quite a punch and great sound.
Pros: Very nice looking and great sounding small "larger" bookshelf speakers at a great price and Crutchfield is excellent.
Cons: Non so far. I do like flat sided speaker cabinets better than curved but this is just personal preference.
Clearly replicated sound came out of my tv setup tonight. A John Mayer show was on mtv, his raspy voice was so much more real than through the old bose I did have in the corners. The guitars, his occasional falsetto were perfect off of my old Natural Sound YAH RX1100 that the display is flaking out on. Found an alt band "Gorillaz" on a music channel; "Dare" was the song playing with an intriguing bass riff that was LOW! Jazz saxophone sounded excellent, classical strings, woodwinds and horns were spacious and deep. The Don and hillary were scary lifelike, like they were right here in my den. I've heard larger Polk Audio speakers before, a long time ago and thought they rivaled some similar sized JBLs that another friend had. These will match up well with my CXA80 & Heresys when the old Yamaha croaks and everything gets consolidated to the den in the next few years. Can't say enough about the really surprising sound out of these little speakers.
Pros: Small with lifelike reproduction, bass that will resonate in your bones, clean clear voices, squeaky reeds and guitar strings, true sounding piano, the price!
Cons: I did mention the price didn't I? Nope, that's not a con. sorry
Really nice sound, in a small good looking package
Pros: They look good, don't take up a lot of space, and great price point with the promotional discount
The speakers I bought were much better than I even expected the sound is incredible the highs and lows are excellent very worthwhile purchase fast shipping no complaints here I do it all over again thank you .....
Picked up through Crutchfield Outlet "scratch and dent" and they only have a tiny nick on one speaker corner; I live in a motor home and the TV sits against a wall/window on the table, the front speakers sit on each side of that on the seat; watching 6' away on the couch. For the past 8 years I have used Bose 201 bookshelf speakers for my fronts. Primary use is movies. These Polk 220B speakers are a 10 compared to the Bose I'd now rate as a 2 on a scale of 0-10! The depth of sound is terrific. The receiver is a Yamaha V571.
Pros: Excellent instrument depth for smaller rooms. I hear no distortion, even at pretty loud settings. Not too large or too heavy for RV application.
Exceptional sound through and through. The highs are spot on with a good crisp hit and the mid range has great power. Even the deeper bass hits are quite exceptional without a sub. I replaced my 5.1 surround with these to accompany my turntable/vinyl collection and the over all sound is just where it needs to be. You can easily host a party with these if you know how to properly set up a sound system with a sub to counterpart. Whether it's music or movies, these speakers supply all the necessary punch. Great purchase not to mention the color scheme and simple design. I pulled the grill covers off because I prefer the naked layout. Highly recommended!
Pros: Solid craftsmanship. Attractive price point. Sound range covers it all. The color makes them look sharp!
Cons: A little bigger than I anticipated even though I knew the measurements. Not really a con though since they look great and sound even better.
I use 4 of these with a subwoofer in a 2.1 channel amp. Listening to 4 makes a huge improvement over 2 . Great value!
Pros: Value , sound, curved cabinet design,
These speakers are great they are a wonderful fit for my stereo room.
I had a difficult time justifying the replacement of our outstanding 30 year old Monitor Series Polks that still perform beutifully. They were just too large for the space anymore. This is kind of an apples to oranges comparison but the TSx220Bs perform extremely well. Music and home theater both sound great with solid base and clarity. I am very happy with the purchase.
Pros: Size and portability, quality of build, clear and crisp sound, solid base. Outstanding sound for the size.
I bought them for my 11 year old son's birthday. These paired with his powered Infinity sub, fill his room with a great clean and smooth highs with a very clean and tight mid bass. Perfect for his favorite group Disturbed all on vinyl.
Pros: smooth, not harsh highs. surprisingly good mid bass and decent lows.
These speakers are awesome! Clean, natural sound. They also have a wide soundstage which I love. I live in an apartment so I can't really crank them up very often but when I do they sound great! These are the first Polk's that I have owned and they are perfect for me and my situation. I haven't heard a speaker that sounds great at low volume and high until now, good job Polk audio! Highly recommend these.
Pros: Clean, wide soundstage especially at low volume
Cons: Could have a little more bass but they are more than adequate
i picked these up a few weeks ago and i'm am incredibly happy. i run them through a new onkyo receiver, tx-sr353, with and also got a polk subwoofer, PSW Series 10". the speakers sound great and amazingly fill the room with music, and can handle high volume. i listen to a lot of live music but also some stuff with bass. they deliver alone, never mind after i added the sub. for the price, these are GREAT!
We bought these speakers for my daughters bedroom and they are awesome clean snappy sounds and nice bass as well good investments
Pros: Great sound good price full rich wall of sound!
Cons: You have to use these on a stand or bookshelf in the floor they loose a lot but they are made for stands so just saying
Great value works perfect as front surround speakers and sound great in multi speaker mode
I researched and read many reviews for book shelf speakers in this price range for about a 2 week period. Most of the reviews for the TSx220b's were glowing, so this helped me make a decision...I have not been disappointed in any way! The only negative comments I read about these speakers was regarding their lack of deep end bass. I have mine paired with a Yamaha receiver that has a bass boost option which eliminates this issue for me...in fact it's too much bass sometimes and I have to switch it off to avoid listening fatigue.
Pros: Small, powerful, beautiful crisp sound and a great looking cabinet. I bought mine from the open box section of Crutchfield and saved 10%. The only way I could tell it was an open box item was because the packing tape didn't match the original Polk box...no other issue at all!
Cons: None yet.
These are great speakers with both lots of power and subtlety of sound. I liked my first pair so much that I ordered a second set two days latter. These speakers are designed to please and, currently, Crutchfield is offering them at a great price. I can't imagine anyone being disappointed with the performance of these instruments that are beautifully designed.
Pros: The are very attractive speakers that easily fit into the decor of most homes. Most importantly, though, the speakers emit the full range of sounds of interest to most consumers and add measurably to already powerful stereo systems. I couldn't believe the difference in the sound quality of my CDs between these speakers and my older, also, top shelf speakers. Also, Crutchfield is a great firm with which to do business.....highly professional and responsive to inquiries and orders.
Cons: None from an informed consumer's perspective. More technically sophisticated audiophiles are needed to comments on the comparative advantages of these speakers compared with other comparatively priced speakers.
First off, crutchfield was spot on with delivery! I ordered the scratch & dents and I can honestly say there isn't a single scratch or dent in these speakers. They're immaculate! Haven't gotten them broken in yet but so far they are exactly what I wanted. I bought these for out in my workshop for mostly just radio listening but the highs are clear and for bookshelf speakers the lows are impressive! Excellent product and I got them for half of there normal list price. Thanks crutchfield!
Pros: Great speakers for the price.. clear highs and solid low end for their size
It was time to replace my old speakers and decided to give Crutchfield a try. After a lot of research I decided on the Polk Audio TSx220B speakers. They are in my price range and the expert from Crutchfield sold me on the sound quality and value. And I decided to take a chance on an "open box" offering for an additional discount. Casey assured me that they carried the same warranty as an unopened box set so I thought I have nothing to lose. They arrived a few days later and either somebody did an outstanding job of repacking or they were never taken out of the box to begin with. I hooked them up and played several CDs ranging from Roy Orbison to Bocelli and with Tony Bennett thrown in for good measure. Very, very pleased with my purchase and the customer service help from Casey among others. I am now looking into turntables. My Technics, like me, is getting old and the tech rep sent me some suggestion in a wide range of prices. I am retired and have to stay within reason so I am thinking about the Denon. Maybe I'll wait to see if an "open box" becomes available! All in all, my first experience with Crutchfield was a very favorable one and will continue to do business with them in the future.
Pros: Bangin' bass with no detectable distortion. Mid range not "raspy" but very crisp. My remastered big band vinyl sound unbelievable. And, they look really good in the black wood grain finish cabinets.
Cons: None so far
I wanted speakers with a little more bass and projection than the smaller bookshelf so I got these. Very deep bass and good clarity and musicality.I was surprised thy do remarkably well with classical music too. Great bang for the buck don't hesitate to buy.
Pros: Great Sound, deep bass and good clarity.
Cons: None but if you like real wood veneer don't look here
I am very pleased with these speakers.. I have always admired Polk speakers and the only disappointment is that I had not bought any before this. The sound is incredible!!!
Pros: Great sound!!!
Clear and crisp sound quality. I was surprised at the amount of bass.
Pros: Sound quality and size
A quality product from Polk as usual, good bass and mid range rivals my Polk towers .
Pros: A bargain, not disappointed
These are great sounding speakers. There is a lot of clarity, with a warm, concise sound. I mostly listen to jazz records, which sound great. I have thrown in some hard rock CD's and was pleasantly surprised by the punch. I'm really pleased with the performance of these units. Check the dimensions though, these are pretty big speakers.
Pros: Great sound, good value
Cons: The fake wood finish is a little cheesy, but not unreasonable at this price point.
I bought these speakers looking for a bit more clarity at high volume and I was very surprised (despite their size -- they are not small speakers). Once you find a place to put them you'll be surprised by how much power they can handle without distortion. These speakers compel you to crank up the volume so you'll feel like you are at your favorite movie or concert. I recommend these speakers for those who are looking for great sound without breaking the bank.
Pros: Excelentes para volúmenes altos con muy buena claridad sin distorción. Excellent for high volume with clarity and without distortion.
Cons: Tamaño son muy grandes en lo que te acostumbras a ellas. They are very big; it takes getting used to the size.Crutchfield response on June 21, 2016 Translation provided by Crutchfield's International Sales & Support team.
These speakers have a clean punchy sound for small speakers. As expected, the bass was not very present at first use. However, with more use that rich punchy bass now comes through.
Pros: Clean sound Punchy bass
Cons: Speaker depth dimension is very long
Fantastic sound from bookshelf speakers , really enjoying them. ...
Great matching bookshelf speakers for the TSx550's. Nice design, warm cherry finish, very solid and good weight. Great highs and mids. Wish they had a touch more bottom end but that's hard to achieve with bookdshelfs. However, fantastic sound with a good supporting receiver Fantastic value especially when you catch them on sale.
Pros: Design, clean sound, solid cabinet, Great match for the Polk TSx line. Great shipping, received in two days.
Cons: None as of yet...
I bought these speakers for the Home Theater System I installed in my basement. The Polks sound wonderful and for the price I don't think I could find a better pair of speaker.
Pros: Very good sound.
You really are hard pressed to find a better sounding pair of bookshelf speakers for the price. The highs and the mids are very precise. The speakers filled my small living room with sounds that I could only detect with my headphones vs my old speakers. Having a dedicated subwoofer will definitely complete the sound spectrum. I also shared the same hesitation as other reviewers of buying speakers without hearing them first, but Crutchfield's policy is so convenient, and when you have a problem they will take care of you as is the case with this order. When I received my order I was terribly disappointed to discover my box had been double taped, and upon opening it the speakers were not wrapped in plastic, which was obvious to me that they were not new. So I immediately called Crutchfield and a friendly Raven did not hesitate to provide a solution once I explained to her of my disappointment. Upon inspection the speakers seemed physically fine, so Raven and I agreed that I would install them and test them out. After a couple of days of testing the speakers I called back and spoke with Susan to tell her that I decided to keep the speakers. I would like to add that Susan was also very friendly and understanding. Based on a previous agreement with Raven, Susan was able to compensate me for the open-box speakers, and I am enjoying the speakers to this date. Hence the 5-star.
Pros: Excellent reproduction from the mids and highs. The cherry wood version will bring a small speck of flare to any entertainment center that is dressed in the usual black decor. If your budget is limited to $200 get them NOW before the sale ends, because if you wait you will end up spending a lot more for speakers that sound like these.
Cons: I have to buy speaker stands! These speakers are a lot bigger than I imagined; my fault since I did not compare the dimensions listed to the space on my entertainment center. Don't mind me. I am not complaining about the speakers - I am sure the larger size of the cabinet had a lot to do with awesome sound.
I was concerned purchasing speaker with no ability to listen to them first. I went ahead and but the bullet and was I ever pleased. The sound quality and the amount of bass I was not expecting. These speakers are definitely worth b the money spent. I could not be happier.
Pros: Looks and sound
These speakers are incredible. Probably the best you can get dollar for dollar. And Crutchfield shipped them safe and fast! A+
Pros: That low-end! Dang!
Best bookshelf speakers I have ever owned. Great vocals, beautiful highs and more than adequate bass. These were discounted 40% - what a steal!
Pros: Vocals, highs and midrange are outstanding. Imaging and bass are also very good. Best speakers for the price.
POLK IS A GOOD, RELIABLE NAME BUT STRICTLY MIDDLING IN TERMS OF OVERALL SOUND, FAIR BASS, FAIR TREBLE, QUITE DISAPPOINTING, NOT OVERPRICED, JUST OVERVALUED.
Pros: REASONABLY PRICED
Cons: HO HUM SOUND
I love these speakers and although they are bookshelf speakers they sound and preform much better than you will think before you fire these up.A different option than the good old sub-bummer(woofer) is a vintage set of Polk Monitor 7's.It gives the bass a nice bump and gives you the rich warm sound that some of the new gear lacks.Like many other reviews on many other websites for those of us not in the 1% Polk is a sweet and affordable option good for HT even better for music.
Pros: Typical Polk great value even better performance.
Cons: Can't turn them up as much as I like (nice neighbors).
I purchased these speakers to replace my 10 year old front speakers on my surround sound system that i thought sounded good, Boy was i surprised. These are great speakers better base clearer highs and the speakers sound as good as they look . Great speakers f
Pros: Great sound, excellent quality, good price.
Cons: None for me.
excellent sound and product !!
Replaced old, good Bose cubes. Absolutely delighted that I did. The range, the tone and the depth are outstanding.
Pros: Quality, Performance, Price
I had a great pair of Kef 102.3 speakers which got blown during my teenage son's party (his friend thought it would be cool to turn amp volume all the way up). Wanted something of similar size (large bookshelf speaker) and found these Polks. Very pleased with the sound.
I had previously purchased a brand new pair of these and loved them, so I wanted a matching pair. I found them in the outlet portion of the site and purchased them. I was shocked to find the speakers were previously mounted and had 5 screw holes in them. The speakers are like new I knew that would be the case. I only wish they would have stated more clearly the amount of flaw that was in the speaker. Its not very noticeable and I am keeping them. These speaks really sound great and look fantastic.
Pros: Great Look and sound
Cons: If purchasing from the outlet the products perform like new but may not look it.
I have had these for a couple of weeks now and really like them. I would buy them again. These speakers sound as good as they look. They are solid and well put together and I expect they will last for many years. I have them paired up with a 100W receiver and get much more volume than I need. The bass is loud and clean. I am surprised at how good the bass is for a bookshelf speaker. Polk did a good job on these.
Pros: Excellent sound, efficient, look great.
Cons: None that I have found so far.
These are great sounding speakers (and not just for the money) they are rich sounding with great highs and enough lows where you don't have to have a SW (but I do) but not a very large one PSW110
Pros: rich sounding with great highs
We purchased these to replace a pair of book shelf speakers in our kitchen to enjoy music while we cook and dine. We also purchased a power sub woofer because we were lacking bass in the kitchen. Well both products came quickly as they always do from Crutchfield, the sub woofer was to large to use so it was returned. The Polk speakers sound so decent that I'm glad the sub woofer didn't fit as I feel we don't need it. The bass response it pretty decent from these and the highs are crisp and clear, would I recommend or buy again, yes. I will be the first to admit its difficult to purchase speakers with out hearing them first, I took the chance as the reviews on these were positive. So far so good.
Pros: Sound, look, cost.
Cons: none yet to list.
Very smooth highs and deep bass. They are very well made and look fantastic with or without the grill. I'm using four of them as my side and back surrounds and they blend perfectly with my Dali fronts. Highly recommended!.
Pros: Sound quality and design. These are X-Large "bookshelfs"..so be prepared.
Pros: Great sound.
Cons: The sound is distractingly awesome sometimes.
Hard to beat these for quality and price. Needed a pair for a really cramped TV room and these were my first choice having owned Polk bookshelf speakers in the past and loved them.
These speakers are perfect and sound way better than they should for the price, just like every other Polk product I have owned.
Pros: Clear Loud when you want it Sounds good at low volume when you don't want it loud
Thus far sounds great. Good bass response and highs are clear.
Cons: No back wall speaker bracket.
Polk,as usual, has another winner!Im using these as my surrounds complementing my Klipsch RB61's for my fronts.Totally awesome sound!!!!!!
Pros: Pure quality build!
Sounds great. I can increase the volume really loud and the sound is flawless.
I am a 57 yr. old man. Music is a major part of my life. I've gone from one piece hi fi's to 5.1 and 7.2 surround systems. I listen to music, and home theater everyday . I have a 1000 watt home theater in a box system. It sounded goog not great. Because I LOVE music. I wanted to buy a better system, the plastic speakers are a shame. I wondered what it would sound like with good speaker. So I researched bookshelf speakers. I decided to get tsx220s for the front and tsx110s for the back. My order got messed up. I never got my 110s. So I just replaced the fronts with the 220s.OMG! It sounds like a whole new system. I find myself listening to things I haven't listened to in a while, just to hear the system with the Polks added. Before you by a new system TRY new speakers first. You can be has happy as iAM. The best part it, I haven't even got my 110s yet!
Pros: Sounds great, excellent quality, good price
Cons: Not one for me!
I'm using these solid performers as surround backups in a 5.0 theatre system with two 550t towers and a 250c center; no subwoofer (as of yet, heh-heh). Just connected the whole sha-bang with 150 feet of Monster Cable XP--50' to each surround and 10' to the upfront trio, including a bi-amp to the towers. The 220b's are corner-mounted to the walls above and behind me (to help load the bass) and ALL 5 speakers are set to "large" to maximize the bass performance of source material (don't I sound technical-ha!). Anyway, to sum up: these so-called "bookshelf" marvels hold their own with the center and towers to create a SEAMLESS theatre experience, including that concussive bass shockwave when ALL 5 speakers fire at once. They don't draw attention to themselves during normal surround effects, but join in the fray when called upon. I suspect they out-perform typical "surround" speakers in this respect, that is, realistic impact--with bass and musical detail. Impressed, yes!
Pros: Come through "in the clutch", when called upon to create solid realistic theatre bass, as well as musical detail in a broad frequency bandwidth. Perfect for "corner mounting" between walls. Look great--love the shape and finish--match the other Tsx front speakers.
Great all around bookshelf speaker.
Pros: look great and sound great.
I have numerous Polk speakers and they continue to be a sound speaker with a good performance.
Pros: it size produces a good balance of sound
I needed a set of replacement speakers for my stereo. I didn't want anything too big . These fit the bill. I play and listen to a lot of classical, jazz and alternative music. These reproduce the music very well. I would recommend these. You may want yo use these with a good subwoofer, but not a necessity.
Pros: Mids and highs come through really well. Well built.
Cons: Bass is a little muddled. Could be solved by putting on a stand or possibly by using a subwoffer.
For my marantz sr6005, I have floorstanding polk monitor 70's wired to my fronts, polk tsx250c wired up center, and some old polk 10" sub from 10yrs ago. I bought the pair of tsx220b to replace my surrounds, and sure glad I did. They really opened up the sound stage, the highs are crisp and bass is tight. Just make sure you have the room for these things, they're huge and look badass on speaker stands.
Pros: sound great
Paired these with an Onkyo TX-8255 receiver and i'm not disappointed. The receiver was reviewed with having "muddy sound" but with these speakers makes for a nice combo. If your in to loud music then get a 'sub.
Pros: great sound
I'm sold on Polk Audio, I own four pairs. I purchased the TSx220B bookshelf speakers for my sister's living room after much debate about buying a wireless solution (she wanted something small and relatively invisible). These speakers perform like much larger floor-standing speakers. The ported design offers deep, rich base and the highs are sharp!
Pros: Deep, rich sound. These speakers project such a wide, balanced spectrum that you'd think you were listening to much larger floor-standing speakers. Great cabinetry contributes to both sound quality and aesthetics.
VERY-VERY NICE POLK SPEAKERS MY 3RD PAIR ALL VERY GOOD SPEAKERS ANY NEW ONES WILL BE POLK THANK YOU
Very nice looking speakers, but we don't buy speakers because they're perty. Nice sound, very good spatial imaging. Very crisp highs, and decent lows for a bookshelf speaker. Would recommend them if you can't use tower speaker.
Pros: Excellent highs, without distorting
Cons: Just good low end sound, not great

TSx Series Loudspeaker: Introducing the TSx Series of loudspeakers from Polk; stylish and quality-built for high performance. The high efficiency TSx Series loudspeaker features a unique curved enclosure wrapped in a wood-grain vinyl. The loudspeaker employs Dynamic Balance tuned drivers and tweeters for realistic mid-range, deep, well-blended bass, and incredible detail - for a classic Polk sound that is naturally open, spacious, and clear.
High Efficiency Design: The TSx Series loudspeaker can be driven by practically any electronics, even the most modestly-powered amplifier or receiver. Whether you're connecting them to the newest digital receiver, or to your vintage amp, the TSx Series loudspeaker can produce sound that's spacious and clear, enveloping and realistic.
Dynamic Balance Drivers: The TSx Series loudspeaker uses Polk's Dynamic Balance Driver Technology for great sound. Dynamic Balance is a proprietary Polk Audio technology using laser imaging to determine what combination of speaker materials create the least amount of resonance. Eliminating resonance in speakers results in a wide, smooth response and low distortion. Using just the right materials enables Polk to tune out performance-robbing resonances before they occur.
Klipple Optimized Motor: Klipple Optimized Motor employs a laser and sophisticated software for large scale analysis of the TSx Series loudspeaker's drivers in motion. Using this state-of-the-art laser and software process, Polk engineers were able to optimize the speaker's motor structure, voice coil alignment, and suspension to yield the best possible performance.
Silk/Polymer Dome Tweeter: The TSx220B bookshelf loudspeaker features a 1.0" silk/polymer Dynamic Balance dome tweeter with a powerful neodymium magnet structure that delivers clear and detailed highs for realistic reproduction of vocals and instruments, without fatigue.
Bi-Laminate Composite Woofer: The TSx220B bookshelf loudspeaker features a 6.5" bi-laminate composite Dynamic Balance driver which is light and stiff with exceptional damping. This Dynamic Balance bi-laminate composite cone woofer uses a butyl rubber surround, polyamide voice coil, massive motor structure, and high-temperature aramid fiber spider to create a driver of exceptionally high efficiency, clear bass, better linearity, lower distortion, and greater durability.
High Performance Crossover: The loudspeaker employs a high performance crossover system for optimum blending and time alignment of the overall speaker. Mylar bypass capacitors are used to reveal extended high frequency details.
TSx-Series Timbre-Matched: All Polk loudspeakers are timbre-matched within their series, designed with the same components throughout, to achieve seamless speaker-to-speaker blending effects in multi-channel systems.
Frequency Response: The TSx220B bookshelf loudspeaker has an overall frequency response of 42Hz-25kHz, while the -3dB frequency response is 50-24kHz.
Curved MDF Cabinet: The TSx220B bookshelf loudspeaker utilizes a unique curved cabinet design which creates a stronger, more rigid and acoustically inert enclosure. The elegantly curved side panels, which create non-parallel surfaces, reduce unwanted internal standing waves for less audible coloration. Non-resonant all-MDF construction, with a 5/8"thick baffle, ensures cleaner, clearer, more lifelike sound quality.
Note: The TSx220B bookshelf loudspeaker is available in either a black or cherry finish.
Flared Port: The TSx Series loudspeaker features a critically-tuned, front-firing flared port. The flared port improves air flow and minimizes port noise ("chuffing"), while ensuring good low frequency extension with low distortion. This flared port design lets the TSx speaker reveal realistic, natural, full-bodied sound with rich bass.
Anti-Diffraction Grille: The computer modeled anti-diffraction grille minimizes grille interference, so it doesn't get in the way of your sound. This black cloth grille is detachable.
Gold-Plated 5-Way Binding Posts: The TSx220B bookshelf loudspeaker features gold-plated 5-way binding posts for excellent signal transfer. The 5-way binding posts will accept bare wire (up to 10AWG), pin-connectors, spade-connectors, and banana plugs (single or dual). The speaker terminals are color coded for easy identification between positive (red) and negative (black).
Placement: Create an equilateral triangle between the speaker and the listening position. If you notice video distortion or discoloration, immediately move the speaker away from the video source.
Rubber Feet: The bookshelf loudspeaker comes with self-adhesive rubber feet so it will sit safely and securely on your speaker stand or shelf. The rubber feet add approximately 0.625" to the height of the speaker.
Wall Mounting: The TSx220B bookshelf speaker does not feature any type of wall-mount bracket or hardware. The optional PinPoint heavy duty side-grip wall-mounting bracket (121AM40B, sold separately) can be used to wall mount the speaker.

I LOVE POLK AUDIO! THE VALUE IS THROUGH THE ROOF. THE PERFORMANCE TO PRICE RATIO IS UNBEATABLE. I OWN A PAIR OF 30 YEAR OLD POLK AUDIO MONITOR 5 Jr. SPEAKERS THAT I PAID $180. TODAY 30 YEARS LATER I AM BUYING BRAND NEW POLKS FOR $180 WITH ALMOST EXACTLY THE SAME SPECS.PRETTY UNBELIEVABLE I WOULD SAY. OBVIOUSLY ALL THIS WOULD BE MEANINGLESS IF I DID NOT LOVE THE SOUND. It all depends on what you definition of "Loud" is. But make sure you have your receiver setup to for the size of speakers that you have and the correct distance. Also make sure you are not in night mode on your receiver. I usually have my Yamaha at -20 to -24 when watching movies, but I am am also running floor standing speakers with dial tens. [ GREGORY J Aug 04, 2016 ]
not permanently, but I did use them that way temporarily , I could not hear any difference. nice sound for the money. good service from Crutchfield. RUSS [ Robert Feb 12, 2016 ]
Their sidewall is not flat so I wouldn't recommend to mount them horizontally. In any case they are great speakers [ Maria Helena Feb 12, 2016 ]
HI Dave. I own two pair of the 220s. One pair is mounted as expected; upright w/ tweet on top. The other pair is mounted horizontally on shelving in a slightly smaller room. I placed a foam block under the curved side of each speaker and aimed the speaker face slightly downward. Both set-ups sound terrific! [ Robert Feb 12, 2016 ]
You should be able to. The aren't flat on sides so they might lay weird. [ GREGORY J Feb 12, 2016 ]
Michael, I have the Polk speakers on a shelf system and they sound great. I don't use speaker stands. Kevin [ KEVIN Jul 23, 2015 ]
Sorry I can't help you with the question. I have the speakers standing up on a shelf. They sound great for small speakers. [ KEVIN Mar 20, 2015 ]
I chose not to screw the speakers to bracket. I placed the speaker as far back as possible and secure the sides with bracket. [ John Mar 19, 2015 ]
The speakers come with a bracket already attached. [ Ricardo Mar 19, 2015 ]
Nope they belong on shelf [ ERIC K Mar 19, 2015 ]
Yes, I have mounted them. Bought clamping mounts, and blue tac. No need to put screws in them. Just make sure to screw into studs, they are pretty big. [ Steven Mar 19, 2015 ]
I have not mounted them on the wall. Might I suggest that you put up shelves and then put these on those vice mounting them directly to the wall.? [ NICHOLAS Mar 19, 2015 ]
After reading many reviews for several different bookshelf speaker manufacturers, I bought the Polk 220s and the Onkyo TX-8020 to drive them. I am a serious amateur jazz trumpet player. Music and listening go hand-in-hand. I was so happy with the Polk 220s I bought a 2nd pair! Both rooms are stand alone systems with terrific sound! [ Robert Feb 12, 2016 ]
Sam, I purchased these speakers for a stand alone stereo system, not a home theater, in an NYC apartment. Space was an issue. What I can tell you is that the sound is awesome and powerful from these small speakers. My receiver is the Onkyo TX-8050, also purchased from Crutchfield - Kevin [ KEVIN Apr 04, 2014 ]
I use it as part of a home entertainment system and it meets my needs. It has all the volume I need for my den, which is about 18' by 20'. You might get slightly better clarity from standing speakers, but I doubt it. My one piece of advice would be to not go small with the sub woofer. That is the one piece of equipment that really gives the "movie theatre" feel in a home entertainment system. I upgraded from my first choice after talking to the representative from Crutchfield and am happy with the results. [ MICHAEL J Jan 20, 2014 ]
Bookshelf speakers can be an excellent fit for a home theater system. They make phenomenal rear surrounds, but can also be used for front speakers as well. The Polk Audio TSx220 speakers are relatively big for "bookshelf" speakers. The cabinets are deep and heavy (well constructed), which enhances sound quality. These speakers have a ported design which also extends bass response. Overall, these speakers perform as well (or better) than most floor standing speakers. To get the best performance out of these speakers, I would elevate them on speaker stands (SANUS makes great speaker stands as well as AV furniture and mounts for flat panel TVs). The most important thing in building a home theater system is to match all of your speakers - don't mix different brands - and even within brand, be sure to get surrounds that are matched with your fronts and center speaker. Polk Audio has a terrific line of speakers at different price levels, so check out their center channel and sub-woofers too. If you use the Polk TSx220 speakers for both your front and surround speakers, you'll be enveloped in a very full, rich sound. If you have any questions about speaker matching, I'd recommend calling the Crutchfield support line to ask for a recommendation - I have found them to be quite helpful. [ Jeffrey Jan 17, 2014 ]
Absolutely, but it depends on the size of the room, how many subwoofers you plan using, and how much power your receiver is pumping out. In my family room, it's a small room, maybe 16' x 13', with one sub, and it works great. In a larger space, you may want to add 2 subs for more bass. The center channel speaker will handle most of the dialogue, and Polk makes some excellent ones to choose from. I have the Polk TSx150c, and I love it! [ MICHAEL Jan 17, 2014 ]
Some use them when they don't have the room for floor standing speakers, and some use them as surrounds with a home theater setup. I used mine as surrounds. For my needs, I think they are great in a home theater system, but other may disagree. [ Bryan Jan 16, 2014 ]
I have 2 home theater set-ups in my home. I use a pair of bookshelf speakers in each set-up for the FRONT speakers. Quality bookshelf speakers work great in this application, unless you have a really large room which could stretch the sonic capability of a small speaker. I have both Polk RTi and TSx bookshelf speakers in my HT set-ups, and I am really pleased with their performance both for movies and for music listening. [ Kerry Jan 16, 2014 ]
They can be used as part of a home theatre system. You will want to check with one of the Crutchfield advisors to see what the best combination would be for you particular situation. It may be that a good soundbar and subwoofer will do the trick. [ NICHOLAS Jan 16, 2014 ]
