What's a component sub and why would I want one?

A component sub is simply a speaker that's designed to reproduce bass once it's installed in a compatible enclosure. Think about the impact of a movie soundtrack in a big theater or even in your own home HDTV setup. A component sub can add the same kind of power to the music in your car. And a car sub is not all about the boom that you hear on a street corner (although that's cool too) - you can pair a component sub with your choice of enclosure to get bass just the way you like it, from tight and punchy to fat and loose. And once you experience music in your car with a well-tuned subwoofer, you'll never go back.

I bought this sub used never having even heard one and without an amp currently is how it's installed. The amount of bass this older model puts out is incredible. I have had people ask me how many watts I'm running and always get called a liar when I say no amp and factory stereo only! Excellent sub that I would recommend over most others.

Pros: Quality, affordability, and it looks good!

Cons: None

Value for money

After installing this sub in my 2000 VW Passat coupled with a Phoenix Gold amplifier, this sub has exceeded my expectations. I was a little nervous about getting a 10" sub but I'm more than happy with that decision now. This sub hits hard and low and I'm really pleased with it. Who can argue with a tag of $60?!?!

an alright sub for the money

with all the reviews with people saying they hit so hard, i was expecting more, i have two of these in a sealed box, with a phonix gold 800watt amp in a 96 blazer... they hit decent but not what i expected... if u want something with some real bass i suggest something else

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This sub is awesome, I have it hooked up to an infinity amp and the pair are insane. It hits every bit as hard as a 12" with the compactness of a 10". If you want that expensive sounding sub for less this is the sub for you.

1 Awesome Sub!!

Written By Dewkin, Somewhere in NE on Saturday, March 11, 2006

I bought 2 of these subs along with the Profile AP1000M AMP. The subs are installed in the 10" dual seal box which I also bought through Crutchfield. The AMP is hooked up to my factory radio in my 06 Sonata. All I can says is that I am very impressed with the way they sound and feel. I spent a little time adjusting the amp to my likening, and so far no disappointments. Regardless of what type of music you listen to, these subs will work out very nicely for anyone. I highly recommend these subs to anyone.

Hit Hard On A Budget!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Don't let the size of the sub fool you. I have two of these in a home made sealed box (made to the size recommended by the manufacturer) and they pound hard. I have never heard 10's that hit as low and hard as these. They will outdo most 12's of other brands.

I have them hooked up to a profile ha1000. If I could pick again, i'd have gone with one of the profile mono amps. But, even with the 10's only getting 160 watts per sub (half of their rms rating), they hit very hard. I couldn't imagine what they would do with their rms power.

I've always been a big fan of 12's and 15's. These 10's have won me over. You won't be disappointed. As a matter of a fact, if Crutchfield is still carrying theses in a couple of months, i'm gonna get 2 more.

ive got 2 of these the trunk of my '98 saturn SC1 in a q-logic type 2 dual 10" ported box on 1 sony 2200gtx amp and they slam.... i had them in a dual sealed 1 cubic foot box with fill and tha difference between tha 2 are amazing..(of course tha ported is way better.) these subs are running on 250w at 4 ohms and they slam.. i mean slam... i listen to a lot of rap and they hit way harder and clearer than my friends audiobahn subs.when my car is in the driveway, the windows in my house literally vibrate when the bass hits, unreal...

This is the BEST sub you can buy if you are on a Budget

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have a pair of Inifity 1040w subs in a sealed box in a toyota single cab pickup. I listen to a lot of rap music and these subs handle the lows realy great.I have them hooked up to a kicker zr240 amp witch the dont make anymore and it pushes about 150rms watts. They dont take up a lot of space behind the seat as mater a fact they dont take up any space at all i can hardly tell they are tere and I am 6 Foot tall. But these subs are the best 10's that i have ever heard. One 10 will dround out a Sony Xplode 12 at least in my truck. I would recomend these subs to anyone who is on a tight budget and does not have a lot of space to give up.

I have mine in a custom silicone sealed box with polyfill. It's being driven by a bridged Profile AP1000. The deck is an Alpine CDM-9801 with Crossfire SX-5.7's in all the doors.
The vehicle is a 2003 Ford Explorer. I altered the wedge shaped box by adding four 3" legs on the speaker side so it could downfire. I did this so my dog wouldn't ruin my speaker.

All I can say is wow! My plan was to just add some "bump in the truck" as they say, but ended up with serious bass. I built my system on a budget but wanted qualty. I would rather have a little of the best then a bunch of the worst.
This Infinity speaker is a little of the best.

great sub!!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

While this sub isn't the best you can get, it is by far the best sub I have owned. I built a box myself (using the "how to build a custom subwoofer box" guide here at crutchfield) and this thing can really shake the seats. I've got a very cheap lightning audio (bolt) 200watt amp and this thing sounds great (I HAVE to get some dynamat now....) so i can just imagine what it'd sound like with a quality amp!

Just get them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OMG!!!! These speakers sound great. Got two in the back of my 04 nissan sentra. Got them hooked up to a Boss 750 watt amp. (puts out 250 RMS at 4oms) The only BAD part is that I think it's going to raddle my car apart. LOL

I have always wanted a set of infinity subs, and when i saw these on sale i jumped on them. I Installed them behind the seat of my 05 rumble bee. In boxes that i built myself (0.75 Cubic Feet each sealed). And they sound unreal. They hit the low notes like they were 12's. I am highly impressed with these subs and i'm glad i Finally decided to go with infinity. Just remember, with any sub it's all about the right airspace!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is an all around great sub. Extemely loud for one sub and can be heard from about 150 yards away when playing at 3/4 volume. However, mine did blow after two weeks, not sure why, maybe defective. However, Crutchfield service was excellent and replaced it immediately. Buy this sub. It sounds great and makes you feel like a pimp, especially when your pants start vibrating with the BOOM.

I installed one in my Dodge Dakota Single Cab and the bass is increadible!!! I use an MTX 282 amp bridged, and KDC-MP232 Head Unit with my sub. This is a very inexpensive audio system that does not take a lot of space and the sound is perfect.

My SUV has an Infinity 12" sub, you can't go wrong with Infinity. I am a dedicated fan for life!

Great for SPL and SQ

Written By Michael, Ocean Grove, NJ on Thursday, January 12, 2006

I just bought two of these to put in a sealed enclosure in my 88' Cougar XR-7. I've been breaking them in for the last four days, and so far they sound great. When it comes to sound quality, these have to be some of the best sounding subs on the market. SPL isn't the highest but I was aware of that and that's not what I was after. I listen to a lot of Progressive rock, metal, country, and some techno, so naturally I prefer SQ over SPL, but these subs can still kick with a nice amp hooked up to them! Overall, Infinity makes very fine speakers, and for these low prices and the SQ they produce, they kick the daylights out of most any of the Pioneer, Kenwood, and Sony stuff out there in this price range!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have two 1040W subs in two truck boxes, in a 1994 Ford F150. I am only using a Kenwood 350 watt max amp, to power them and they sound great. I can't believe they sound this good for the price. They hit the lows hard and clear as can be. I would recommend these to anyone who doesn't have a lot of money or have a lot of power.

I have two of these hooked up to a 4 channel Infinity amp. I put these in yesterday and without them even being broken in they sounded 100x better then all my friends subs. If you wanna turn heads or just make your friends jealous these are the right subs for you.

I own several pairs of subs and a pair of these blows them all away, My brother owed me money and i had him get me two of these instead of cash, they dominate the pair of 12" audiobahns i had in there earlier. They hit the lows HARD, very sensitive sub. power them with at least 200 watts and use the poly-fill, your ears will bleed. ^-^ definitly A+, I will reccomend these to everyone.

I purchased a single 1040W sub with a Profile AP600 amp to simply add some bass to my stock '03 F250 Super Duty radio. What I got was way beyond my expectations, and more than enough bass for my truck. I highly recommend this sub and amp combo.

My hats off to the technical support line as well. I had a few questions during the install and they handled my questions very professionally.

Wow...great price and only pushed by 200 watts

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Unbelievable. I have a 2004 Dodge Quad Cab Pickup. I use the truck with the intent of carry a lot of people and stuff, so I didn't want to waste any space. I found a subwoofer box that fits under the rear seat and takes up one of the "storage areas" under the seat. Sets up with an upward firing woofer (basically fires into the bottom of the rear seat). I set it up with a 2 channel amp with 100 watts RMS per channel. Set the amp up in bridged mode and turned on the built in low pass filter at 250 Hz. I actually had to TURN DOWN the gain and bass boost on the amp, the subwoofer was so sensitive. Please understand, I like 60's - 90's rock, country music and don't care much for rap. But, for a balanced system with more than enough bass to balance out the overall sound quality, this speaker is great. I can't imagine if I had two of these in my quad cab pickup. If I turn up the bass boost and gain, it does become a "boomer", although that doesn't fit my listening style. I recommend this speaker to anyone looking for a quality 10" sub.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I`ve had an 03 Silverado with the "BOSE" system since it was new (1/03) and finally decided to add some bass and am pleasantly surprised at the 10" Infinity! I put it in a sealed, downfiring box with approx. 1 cf of space and had an Pioneer Premier amp from a previous ride. The amp is bridged and only puts out 150 RMS but it still bumps. I plan on upgrading to a 250 RMS amp very soon.
Thanks for a great product Crutchfield! I`ll be calling you soon for a new amp!

I have 1 10" Infinity sub w/ 2 Pioneer 3 way 6x9's hooked up to an Audiobahn 4 channel amp. I also have 2 Infinity Reference tweets and 2 Rockford Fosgate Power 6.5" speakers in the rear hooked to a Kenwood 4 channel amp. It's 690 watts RMS total W/ 300 watts going to the sub. (It's rated to 250 watts RMS!) It's in a custom sealed enclosure, .55 cubic feet stuffed w/ 11 ounces of polly fill. All I can say is WOW!! It hit's hard and accurate! My friends can't believe it's only one 10!! My system sound amazing at all levels w/ any music... You people at Crutchfield were amazing and very helpful!! I will be a fan of you and Infinity for life!!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have always been a huge fan of Infinity's speakers for my mids and highs but was not sure if their subwoofers would measure up. I always went with Kicker or Rockford Fosgate in that department. That has now changed. I went with this sub because the amp I already have installed had a seperate channel with 150 watts so I was looking for a smaller sub that could handle that without costing too much. This is the ONE! The new design increased the dB to 91 but still only needs the same power. I went with a ported box because I am only pushing 150 watts. It is 1.75 cu. ft. like they recommended with a 3" port that is 9" long. When I turned on my radio.....I could not believe my ears. It was vibrating my hair and I did not even have the sub level up 1/3 of the way. This little sub pounds hard and begs for more. I don't know how it would do in a sealed box with the full 250 watts it could handle but I can imagine. I HIGHLY SUGGEST YOU BUY THIS IF YOU WANT A GOOD HARD HITTING SUB THAT NEEDS LITTLE POWER AND COSTS VERY LITTLE! Hope my review helps. Thanks guys rock as always!!!!!!!!!!

Enclosure Compatibility

High-efficiency Polypropylene Woofer Cone: This lightweight and popular material is used to ensure maximum woofer efficiency. The benefit is high output with modest amplifier power.

Large-roll Rubber Surround: The large-roll rubber surround provides optimum cone-edge suspension and absorbs distortion that may travel up the cone edge, ensuring clean, tight bass.

Proprietary Basket: The unique basket design delivers a decrease in mounting depth while maximizing woofer excursion.

Vented Polepiece: The vented polepiece provides additional cooling of the motor structure. The subwoofer's thermal capabilities are augmented, increasing power handling.

Progressive Spider: The subwoofer uses a progressive spider, which provides better control at excursion limits than more commonly used linear spiders. The result is reduced distortion at high output levels.

Gold-plated Binding Posts: The gold-plated binding posts will accept pin connectors, spade connectors, banana plugs, and bare wire.

Note: The binding posts are positioned too far apart to accept dual banana plugs.

Enclosure Compatibility

Recommended Sealed Box Volume: Infinity recommends a sealed enclosure with an internal volume of 0.75 cu/ft.

Recommended Ported Box Volume: Infinity recommends a ported enclosure with an internal volume of 1.75 cu/ft with one 3" diameter x 9" long port.

Recommended Sealed Bandpass Box Volume: Infinity recommends a sealed bandpass enclosure with an internal volume of 2.0 cu/ft. The enclosure has a sealed chamber volume of 1.0 cu/ft and a ported chamber volume of 1.0 cu/ft with one 4" diameter x 7.875" long port.
