Our take on the Infinity Reference 1040w

Got enough juice? Get an amp for your new sub Infinity Reference subwoofers add a strong jolt of bass to your system at an affordable price. Their solid construction and innovative basket design provide extended low-frequency response and excellent power handling.

The Reference 1040w 10" subwoofer features a polypropylene cone suspended in a large-roll rubber surround that absorbs distorting vibrations for cleaner sound. A progressive spider design applies more force to the cone as it travels to its limit, for superb control in extreme conditions. The vented polepiece cools the motor structure for increased reliability, while the aggressively-styled basket minimizes depth while allowing plenty of woofer excursion.

Enclosure Compatibility

Features

High-efficiency Polypropylene Woofer Cone: This lightweight and popular material is used to ensure maximum woofer efficiency. The benefit is high output with modest amplifier power.

Large-roll Rubber Surround: The large-roll rubber surround provides optimum cone-edge suspension and absorbs distortion that may travel up the cone edge, ensuring clean, tight bass.

Proprietary Basket: The unique basket design delivers a decrease in mounting depth while maximizing woofer excursion.

Vented Polepiece: The vented polepiece provides additional cooling of the motor structure. The subwoofer's thermal capabilities are augmented, increasing power handling.

Progressive Spider: The subwoofer uses a progressive spider, which provides better control at excursion limits than more commonly used linear spiders. The result is reduced distortion at high output levels.

Gold-plated Binding Posts: The gold-plated binding posts will accept pin connectors, spade connectors, banana plugs, and bare wire.

Note: The binding posts are positioned too far apart to accept dual banana plugs.

Enclosure Compatibility

Recommended Sealed Box Volume: Infinity recommends a sealed enclosure with an internal volume of 0.75 cu/ft.

Recommended Ported Box Volume: Infinity recommends a ported enclosure with an internal volume of 1.75 cu/ft with one 3" diameter x 9" long port.

Recommended Sealed Bandpass Box Volume: Infinity recommends a sealed bandpass enclosure with an internal volume of 2.0 cu/ft. The enclosure has a sealed chamber volume of 1.0 cu/ft and a ported chamber volume of 1.0 cu/ft with one 4" diameter x 7.875" long port.

Value for money

Written By Andrew, Yardley, PA on Thursday, March 16, 2006

After installing this sub in my 2000 VW Passat coupled with a Phoenix Gold amplifier, this sub has exceeded my expectations. I was a little nervous about getting a 10" sub but I'm more than happy with that decision now. This sub hits hard and low and I'm really pleased with it. Who can argue with a tag of $60?!?!

Best value for the money

Written By Chris, San Antonio, tx on Monday, March 13, 2006

This sub is awesome, I have it hooked up to an infinity amp and the pair are insane. It hits every bit as hard as a 12" with the compactness of a 10". If you want that expensive sounding sub for less this is the sub for you.

1 Awesome Sub!!

Written By Dewkin, Somewhere in NE on Saturday, March 11, 2006

I bought 2 of these subs along with the Profile AP1000M AMP. The subs are installed in the 10" dual seal box which I also bought through Crutchfield. The AMP is hooked up to my factory radio in my 06 Sonata. All I can says is that I am very impressed with the way they sound and feel. I spent a little time adjusting the amp to my likening, and so far no disappointments. Regardless of what type of music you listen to, these subs will work out very nicely for anyone. I highly recommend these subs to anyone.

Hit Hard On A Budget!

Written By armbreaker, Wiggins, MS on Thursday, March 09, 2006

Don't let the size of the sub fool you. I have two of these in a home made sealed box (made to the size recommended by the manufacturer) and they pound hard. I have never heard 10's that hit as low and hard as these. They will outdo most 12's of other brands.

I have them hooked up to a profile ha1000. If I could pick again, i'd have gone with one of the profile mono amps. But, even with the 10's only getting 160 watts per sub (half of their rms rating), they hit very hard. I couldn't imagine what they would do with their rms power.

I've always been a big fan of 12's and 15's. These 10's have won me over. You won't be disappointed. As a matter of a fact, if Crutchfield is still carrying theses in a couple of months, i'm gonna get 2 more.

This is the BEST sub you can buy if you are on a Budget

Written By Bo, Portgibson,MS on Monday, March 06, 2006

I have a pair of Inifity 1040w subs in a sealed box in a toyota single cab pickup. I listen to a lot of rap music and these subs handle the lows realy great.I have them hooked up to a kicker zr240 amp witch the dont make anymore and it pushes about 150rms watts. They dont take up a lot of space behind the seat as mater a fact they dont take up any space at all i can hardly tell they are tere and I am 6 Foot tall. But these subs are the best 10's that i have ever heard. One 10 will dround out a Sony Xplode 12 at least in my truck. I would recomend these subs to anyone who is on a tight budget and does not have a lot of space to give up.

Wow!!

Written By Lee, Valdosta, Ga on Friday, February 10, 2006

I have mine in a custom silicone sealed box with polyfill. It's being driven by a bridged Profile AP1000. The deck is an Alpine CDM-9801 with Crossfire SX-5.7's in all the doors.
The vehicle is a 2003 Ford Explorer. I altered the wedge shaped box by adding four 3" legs on the speaker side so it could downfire. I did this so my dog wouldn't ruin my speaker.

All I can say is wow! My plan was to just add some "bump in the truck" as they say, but ended up with serious bass. I built my system on a budget but wanted qualty. I would rather have a little of the best then a bunch of the worst.
This Infinity speaker is a little of the best.

great sub!!

Written By James, atlanta, ga on Wednesday, February 08, 2006

While this sub isn't the best you can get, it is by far the best sub I have owned. I built a box myself (using the "how to build a custom subwoofer box" guide here at crutchfield) and this thing can really shake the seats. I've got a very cheap lightning audio (bolt) 200watt amp and this thing sounds great (I HAVE to get some dynamat now....) so i can just imagine what it'd sound like with a quality amp!

Just get them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Written By christopher, Wallisville, TX on Wednesday, February 08, 2006

OMG!!!! These speakers sound great. Got two in the back of my 04 nissan sentra. Got them hooked up to a Boss 750 watt amp. (puts out 250 RMS at 4oms) The only BAD part is that I think it's going to raddle my car apart. LOL

The type of bass you get from your component subwoofer doesn't depend on the woofer alone. You'll need a strong, tightly constructed enclosure for optimum subwoofer performance.
