A component sub is simply a speaker that's designed to reproduce bass once it's installed in a compatible enclosure. Think about the impact of a movie soundtrack in a big theater or even in your own home HDTV setup. A component sub can add the same kind of power to the music in your car. And a car sub is not all about the boom that you hear on a street corner (although that's cool too) - you can pair a component sub with your choice of enclosure to get bass just the way you like it, from tight and punchy to fat and loose. And once you experience music in your car with a well-tuned subwoofer, you'll never go back. Infinity Reference subwoofers add a strong jolt of bass to your system at an affordable price. Their solid construction and innovative basket design provide extended low-frequency response and excellent power handling. The Reference 1040w 10" subwoofer features a polypropylene cone suspended in a large-roll rubber surround that absorbs distorting vibrations for cleaner sound. A progressive spider design applies more force to the cone as it travels to its limit, for superb control in extreme conditions. The vented polepiece cools the motor structure for increased reliability, while the aggressively-styled basket minimizes depth while allowing plenty of woofer excursion. Features Enclosure Compatibility Features High-efficiency Polypropylene Woofer Cone: This lightweight and popular material is used to ensure maximum woofer efficiency. The benefit is high output with modest amplifier power. Large-roll Rubber Surround: The large-roll rubber surround provides optimum cone-edge suspension and absorbs distortion that may travel up the cone edge, ensuring clean, tight bass. Proprietary Basket: The unique basket design delivers a decrease in mounting depth while maximizing woofer excursion. Vented Polepiece: The vented polepiece provides additional cooling of the motor structure. The subwoofer's thermal capabilities are augmented, increasing power handling. Progressive Spider: The subwoofer uses a progressive spider, which provides better control at excursion limits than more commonly used linear spiders. The result is reduced distortion at high output levels. Gold-plated Binding Posts: The gold-plated binding posts will accept pin connectors, spade connectors, banana plugs, and bare wire. Note: The binding posts are positioned too far apart to accept dual banana plugs. Enclosure Compatibility Recommended Sealed Box Volume: Infinity recommends a sealed enclosure with an internal volume of 0.75 cu/ft. Recommended Ported Box Volume: Infinity recommends a ported enclosure with an internal volume of 1.75 cu/ft with one 3" diameter x 9" long port. Recommended Sealed Bandpass Box Volume: Infinity recommends a sealed bandpass enclosure with an internal volume of 2.0 cu/ft. The enclosure has a sealed chamber volume of 1.0 cu/ft and a ported chamber volume of 1.0 cu/ft with one 4" diameter x 7.875" long port. The subs are installed in the 10" dual seal box which I also bought through Crutchfield. The AMP is hooked up to my factory radio in my 06 Sonata. All I can says is that I am very impressed with the way they sound and feel. I spent a little time adjusting the amp to my likening, and so far no disappointments. Regardless of what type of music you listen to, these subs will work out very nicely for anyone. I highly recommend these subs to anyone. 1 out of 1 people found this helpful Was this review helpful? I have two of these in a home made sealed box (made to the size recommended by the manufacturer) and they pound hard. I have never heard 10's that hit as low and hard as these. They will outdo most 12's of other brands. I have them hooked up to a profile ha1000. If I could pick again, i'd have gone with one of the profile mono amps. But, even with the 10's only getting 160 watts per sub (half of their rms rating), they hit very hard. I couldn't imagine what they would do with their rms power.I've always been a big fan of 12's and 15's. These 10's have won me over. You won't be disappointed. As a matter of a fact, if Crutchfield is still carrying theses in a couple of months, i'm gonna get 2 more. Was this review helpful?
