Infinity's Reference 1250w 12" subwoofer adds impact to your tunes with a lightweight cone that responds quickly and accurately, so you'll enjoy every hard-hitting beat.

What's a component sub and why would I want one?

A component sub is simply a speaker that's designed to reproduce bass once it's installed in a compatible enclosure. Think about the impact of a movie soundtrack in a big theater or even in your own home HDTV setup. A component sub can add the same kind of power to the music in your car. And a car sub is not all about the boom that you hear on a street corner (although that's cool too) - you can pair a component sub with your choice of enclosure to get bass just the way you like it, from tight and punchy to fat and loose. And once you experience music in your car with a well-tuned subwoofer, you'll never go back.

Features

High-efficiency Polypropylene Woofer Cone: This lightweight and popular material is used to ensure maximum woofer efficiency. The benefit is high output with modest amplifier power.

Large-roll Rubber Surround: The large-roll rubber surround provides optimum cone-edge suspension and absorbs distortion that may travel up the cone edge, ensuring clean, tight bass.

Proprietary Basket: The unique in-board motor structure reduces the overall mounting depth, without limiting enclosure options.

Vented Polepiece: The vented polepiece provides additional cooling of the motor structure, thus increasing power handling.

Progressive Spider: The subwoofer uses a progressive spider, which provides better control at excursion limits than more commonly used linear spiders. The result is reduced distortion at high output levels.

Gold-plated Binding Posts: The gold-plated binding posts will accept pin connectors, spade connectors, banana plugs, and bare wire up to 11 gauge.

Note: The binding posts are positioned too far apart to accept dual banana plugs.

Enclosure Compatibility

Sealed Box Volume: Infinity recommends a sealed enclosure with an internal volume of 1.25 cu/ft. Sealed enclosures provide the most control over a woofer, will handle more power, and provide more accurate sonic reproduction, making them suitable to all types of music.

Ported Box Volume: Infinity recommends a ported enclosure with an internal volume of 2.0 cu/ft with one 4" diameter x 12.25" long port. Ported (or vented) enclosures provide better efficiency in the 40-50Hz range, and are suitable for use with small amplifiers, giving you more bass output from less power. However, this efficiency comes at the expense of sound quality at low frequencies (40Hz and below), and control.

Bandpass Box Volume: Infinity recommends a bandpass enclosure with an internal volume of 2.5 cu/ft. The enclosure has a sealed chamber volume of 1.25 cu/ft and a ported chamber volume of 1.25 cu/ft with two 4" diameter x 8" long port. Bandpass enclosures often provide the most output available from any amplifier and subwoofer combination at the expense of sonic accuracy. If sheer SPL is desired most, a bandpass enclosure is recommended.

Infinity Reference 1250w

Written By Parker, New Baltimore, MI on Wednesday, March 11, 2009

These are some great woofers. I have two of them in ~0.7 cbf cheapo boxes powered by an older Infinity 2-channel amplifier. The amp only puts out 97 watts RMS to each channel, and that is how they are wired. The boxes are behind the seats in a '98 Dakota Regular Cab, so you know I was really pressed on space for subs. Even in undersized boxes and at 1/3 the power they can handle RMS, they still kick ass. They still put out enough power to make my seats, mirrors and even door panels shake! I can hardly hear my highs, I have the treble set to +6 and bass at 0 on my reciever, and I'm using Pioneer components in the doors. The only thing I'm disappointed in in my system is my highs...at high volume when my subs start to distort a liiittle (from not getting enough power), my highs from the components are starting to sound really scratchy. These hit really clean and hard, considering the way I have them set up. They could hit the really low notes a little better, but I think this problem may be solved when I get my new amp in to give them more power. I just can't fit the new amp because I have no room! This is just a great quality sub for a great price. Definitely recommend Infinity to anyone.

God sub for the money

Written By Anonymous, Idaho falls, Idaho on Tuesday, January 20, 2009

I have had many different setups for the past seven years and I can honestly say that this is a good sub for the money. The only complaint I have about this sub is that it does not hit the lows quite as well as I would like. I have it hooked up to a new MTX mono which tested at 460 watts rms and have it up @ 3/4. The sound quality is good and it surprisingly sounds great for rock (Great sharp bass). It has its limits when you want long extended low bass. it starts crackling when its pushed, maybe its due to its rather shallow motor sructure at 5 1/4 deep which sacrifices a little excursion. (great for a pickup). I wanted more lows so I replaced it with a kicker cvr. The low frequencies where very good when listening to the kicker but the infinity had a better faster punch.

Great Sub

Written By Chris, Redding, CA on Wednesday, December 17, 2008

This sub was not my first choice when i was shoppin around but i thought i would give it a shot. Its lasted a long time still with tremendous sound. I only had it in a sealed box never wanted to waste the money on a ported box but it still sounds killer.

Good quality

Written By Rob, Monticello, IL on Wednesday, December 10, 2008

I used to have a Kicker L5 in a ported box but my back seats in my car didnt fold down so the sub couldnt get any air movment. so it only sounded good when the trunk was open. so i sold the kicker setup and bought one infinity reference sub and put it in a sealed box and wow it sounds amazing. The RMS rating on the infinity is 300 watts but with the Xplod amp i have im pushing 500 RMS at 4 ohms and this thing sounds amazing even at really high volume. ive had around 8 different setups that have ranged from Kicker L5's to rockford P3's and this sub matches the sound quality of the those subs and its around $150 cheaper. great sub. you should buy one

Not just for the car...

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought a pair of these subs to replace the drivers in my SM120 home speakers as the exact replacement was no longer available. I had to enlarge the opening in the speaker box to make them fit but the sound is great. It's hard to compare them to the originals as they were blown but I'd say the sound is at least as good and maybe a bit stronger on the base. These things are built like a tank compared to the original drivers in the SM120's. All in all a very good speaker at a great price.

Got this 12" Infinity Reference 1250w for my birthday!! I usually get nothing
but alpine in my ride but I wanted to try something new with my sub!! And
I am happy to say my family made a great pick!! I listen to rap, r&b, hip-
hop, and gospel (Canton Jones) they all sound like i have a gorilla in my
truck!! I have it powered with just an Alpine MRP-M450 220 watts RMS x 1
at 4 ohms and this isnt a good thing but I got pulled over cause the police
could here me coming 2 blocks away so this sub really thumps! If you want
a sub with great lows at a great price I recommend this sub!!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great sound, high quality construction, reasonable price and reliable delivery from Crutchfield. What else do you need from a subwoofer unless you need perfection which means spending hundreds more? The bass is precise, not too boomy and loud enough especially since I'm using a 100w mono amp to power this thing. I purchased this Infinity sub to replace a 10 year old Pioneer sub whose foam surround fell apart from age. Hopefully, the Infinity rubber cone surround can outlast Pioneer's foam.

This sub is great for anybody who wants good deep bass! I am only running this sub off a 250 Rms (800P) amp and it sounds great. If you are looking for good bass off a low powered amp for a cheap price this is the way to go!

Nice subs!

These are two of the best subs I've owned. I was suprised at how good these handled. I have them wired up to an M700XE amp bridged. I would recommend them to anyone.

Great for the price!!!

Written By Mr. Bill, Skagit County, WA on Wednesday, October 31, 2007

I was looking for other subs, and I stumbled across this one. I bought this one because the other sub that I wanted at the time was a Rockford Fosgate 12" P3. Although I have to say the P3 hits harder, it would've cost $100 more and I would've needed a stronger mono amp, therefore spending even more. I'm glad I went with this one!!! It hits VERY hard, it's precise, and it was very affordable to set up with a Kenwood 1000watt mono amp. It is also a perfect match to my setup. The amp is capable of 500watts rms at 2 ohms, but since this sub is 300watts rms, I went with the 4 ohm wiring - a perfect match. If I'd bought the P3, that would be too much power in my SUV since it is wide-open (i.e. not hitting through a trunk). This Infinity sub hits so hard, it can actually overpower my door speakers - even though they are four Alpine s-series 6 1/2" speakers with a Rockford Fosgate P400-4 amp!!! So now I have a very loud, clean, and precise sound system. I love it :) No complaints at all, in fact, better than I expected.

Very Suprised

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased these on the reviews of others, but not really expecting these Infinity's to be what the reviews claimed. I was very suprised when I got this subwoofer hooked up. I have it on an Alpine MRP-F450 with channels 3 and 4 bridged putting out 220 watts. Not only does it play very, loud, and very deep it is clean and not muddy. I don't even have it close to being turned halfway up. It is enclosed in a 1.25 cubit ft. sealed box. I am extremely satisfied with my purchase and if you are in the market for an excellent sub that won't break the bank then you have found your sub.

AWESOME!!!

I bought one of these for my 1998 Isuzu Amigo and put it in a Q Logic 1x12" box. I'm driving it with a bridged Profile AP600. I have to say this is the best sounding sub I have heard yet. I knew it would sound good but I am just floored at how accurate and great it really sounds. This thing isn't even broke in yet and at low volumes it is vibrating my front seats. If you wanna save some money but get A LOT of thump, I highly recommend this sub. Great buy.

Excellent Sub!!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is my first component subwoofer purchase ever, and with the help of my Crutchfield advisor, I absolutely made an excellent choice. This sub sounds excellent in my Q-Logic sealed box powered by a Profile AP600 amp in bridged mode pushing appx 300 watts RMS to the subwoofer. My Acura TL has never sounded so good and with this sub cranked pretty good, it doesn't even rattle my trunk or anything. More than enough bass for me and I have my sub control turned very low, but I got plenty of room to crank that sub to insane levels if need be. Get this sub, you won't be disappointed!!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I think the title says a lot, but my friend Mike actually told me that while driving to a concert. It's not that it sounds bad, but the kick on the sub is so gut wrenchingly hard, and I love it. I ordered just one of these after debating whether to get the MTX Package with 2 Subs and the Enclosure. I am happy with my decision for a few reasons. One would be that this one sub outdoes two Alpine SWE-1242 that a guy at work has. He was quite saddened by this realization, but whatever works. Secondly, I could say zero distortion, but for me on some songs running off my Mp3 player, it's a fact of the original audio quality, not the subwoofer. Thirdly, the response time on this subwoofer is magnificent. I was having trouble thinking how I could get this thing to move with the double bass of Arch Enemy, but it does it quite well. I haven't noticed it lagging behind or distorting anything when it comes to your rock bass kicks. Also I can throw on a Korn Song (Dead Bodies Everywhere) and it'll shake my car to beautiful pieces. Even from Metallica S&M to RHCP it finds every note and plays it with ease. Only reason I am getting the DVC shortly is because of the Infinity 5 Channel Amplifier I would like to pickup. Other than that, absolutely no reason people should overlook this at all.

Specs on the Subwoofer: Running in a Sealed Box, Q-Logic 1
Amplifier is: Kenwood KAC-8152D
Head Unit: JVC KD-G430
Input Source is typically my MP3 Player through the AUX Input connection.
Music preference: All types of rock.

It is nice, I like!

I have one of these in a custom bandpass box I spent about 3 months making. I built the box with the exact specs Infinity recommended, and this combo hits HARD. Hard enough to shake my washer fluid hose loose and cause a spill in my garage! It's powered by a Pioneer GM-5300T and sounds amazing! Highly recommend these subs

These subs hit hard! I am running them with a Kenwood KAC-8152D amp in a 2000 mercury cougar hatchback and you can feel the bass hit in the front like crazy, my whole car was vibrating. Definitely a great sub for the low cost its so loud that i have to turn the bass completely off on my deck!

Infinity subs

Written By Michael, WIsconsin on Saturday, January 27, 2007

These subs are certainly powerful enough. I installed them in a single AS cabinet of about 3 ft^3. They are being driven by a 1000W peak (450 W RMS) amp. The car literally shakes and vibrates in rhythm. I have to say one minute of exposure to these in the back seat caused me pain!
Using them as a base extension however, they have a nice low-distortion quality too, but they can thump very hard when asked.

I bought these to replace two 10inch sony subs. I was not expecting much I wanted some entery level subs that would by comprable to my friends. I don't have much of an amp but these things pound hard. I cant use my rear view mirror any more and I is way better than my friends and thier pionier, sony, R.F. or alpine entry subs. With a sealed box in the trunk of my cutlass we hit 130 D.B.. I highly recomend these for anyone who wants to thump loud.

These are the HARDEST hitting subs for the $$$$$.
I have them powered by a Pioneer Premier GM-7150M 800 watt amp. Nowhere near what the subs are rated for. They replace a set of Pioneer 12" 400 watt subs that went up in a blaze of glory(too much power not enough sub!)! Would recommend to anyone that loves serious bass!! I have them installed in a R/T Bandpass box, but I am sure they would sound good in a sealed or ported box also.

These subs make so much BASS they shake the glasses off of my face!!!!!

Oh yeah I am running them off of the factory deck!!!

Wow! What a bargain!

Written By Fhantazm, Newport News, Va. on Friday, December 29, 2006

I like low bass. Like 40hz and below, low. Up until now the only subs I have found to excel in extremely low bass are the JL Audio line. They have a low Fs(Resonant Frequency). In other words the lower the Fs the better the sub handles the lower end of the scale. Most average subs drop off at around 30-35hz which is decent, but compared to the JL's with a Fs of 20-25hz, theres a world of difference. Now moving right along to the Infinity. I have been using a 12w6v1(Older style) for over a year now, driven by a Fosgate Power 350 in a 3ohm load and have been relatively happy. The low end was wonderful and it sounded good. However after a years worth of abuse the surround developed a crack and started seperating from the cone, which i duct taped. This lasted another couple months, but I got tired of the sound, so it was time to replace it.

I went and bought the 1252w(Same sub but with 2ohm coils). The first thing i noticed was the basket was huge and it wouldn't fit in my box right. I had to ream the hole out a little bigger, but once in and sealed up, holy cow....This thing POUNDS and hits low notes like nobodys business. I'm not so sure Infinity's Kappa series could do much better than this Reference series. The bass is clean and it hits just as low as the JL and is somewhat more musical. Seriously. I am highly impressed and am sure I will be moreso after the sealant dries and the sub breaks in. I have about 15 years of audio experience and a very discerning ear for audio imperfections and can whole heartedly recommend this sub!

Very solid sub with great control. i have two subs running on a profile 2 channel (1200) amp with about 200 rms to each sub. They sound great in the sealed enclosure with polyfill. ( 1 cubic foot each chamber). They are in the trunk of my 99 camry faced towards me and i couldn't ask for more. I would recommend these to anyone who wants the best bass for your buck. Even the low end subs only handle 150-200 rms. For this price I got two 300rms subs that sound amazing. I mean i can't even turn the gain all the way up because i'm afraid it's damging my soul. party on garth!

I have to say this sub, for the money is amazing. It out bumps my old subs, is more accurate and seems to handle power better. I have played all types of music through it, rap, metal, blues, country, classical and it reproduced all of the low end in all of them wonderfully. The only place it really lacks is the extreme low end frequency levels.. *25hz and down* BUt normal music is usualy only in the low 30's to high 20's so it is an amazing buy.

Thanks Wes(Crutchfield Sales Adiser)for your time in helping me choose these subs. Also thumbs up for the other crutchfield staff.Shipping is promp, service is the best out there.

crazy loud

I bought two 12s of the later models after i heard two tens in a freinds car. I couldn't be more impressed by these subs, they hit, there loud, and they rattle my teeth. I have a Alpine headunit, monster audio cables, and a 611a infinity amp pushing my two 12s. I have then in a big true ported box, i have never heard entry level subs get so loud. These things hit so hard my trunk isn't flush with the rest of my car now. Awsome subs for the price, if set up right competition worthy!

Good buy

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These subs are great. I have two hooked up to a 1206 Hifonics amp pushing 600rms at 4 ohms. Hits clean. accuratley, and HARD. Very good price for the power.

slammin'

I have two of last years model but they are the same.I bought them in dec. and sold them but bought them back. Now i got them in a large bandpass box hooked to a rockford fosgate 500bd power series amp. I,m pushing 500x1@2ohm rms & 1000x1@2ohm max. These things blow and the sq is excellent. The sp is real high and my whole car rattles like its going to fall apart! so for a budget system buy these and throw'em in a bandpass box wit a class d amp.
