An Infinity Reference subwoofer makes every deep note of your music count. Whether you listen to jazz, rock, hip-hop, country, or all of the above, you'll hear and feel satisfying bass with this sub in your car.

The Reference 1262w 12" sub offers a classy, no-nonsense look, with a high-gloss polypropylene cone that's accurate and hard-hitting. The durable large-roll rubber surround provides smooth, extended excursion with reduced distortion so you get impressive bass performance. Dual 4-ohm voice coils make it easy to draw big power from a compatible low-impedance amplifier or safely hook up a multi-sub system for heavy-duty low end.

The 1262w's unique motor structure cuts down on the mounting depth, and this sub works in sealed, ported, and bandpass enclosures so you get bass the way you want it. And since you want your investment to last, the 1262w features plenty of internal cooling to protect the sub's inner workings and keep it performing at its peak.

Note: If you are wiring this DVC sub for lower impedance, make sure that your amp is compatible. Most 2-channel car amplifiers are stable down to 2 ohms in standard mode, or 4 ohms in bridged operation. Most mono amps are stable down to 2 ohms.

To drive this single subwoofer, we recommend a mono amplifier rated between 225 and 450 watts RMS at 2 ohms. For more information, please refer to our article on How to Match Subwoofers and Amplifiers.

What's a component sub and why would I want one?

A component sub is simply a speaker that's designed to reproduce bass once it's installed in a compatible enclosure. Think about the impact of a movie soundtrack in a big theater or even in your own home HDTV setup. A component sub can add the same kind of power to the music in your car. And a car sub is not all about the boom that you hear on a street corner (although that's cool too) - you can pair a component sub with your choice of enclosure to get bass just the way you like it, from tight and punchy to fat and loose. And once you experience music in your car with a well-tuned subwoofer, you'll never go back.

It's great value for the price. Really sounds great. Wired parallel. Looks awesome! As for build quality, I'll let you know sometime in the future if it starts to go bad. I'm kickin it with 428 x 1 @ 2ohms certified watts from a Rockford P500 BD Mono Amp. IT ROCKS!!!

Pros: Sounds as well as it looks.

Cons: Maybe ... better connectors. "Press & insert speaker wire."

i had 2 of these subs and i was pushing them at 400w rms a piece and they sounded perfect. two of these hit lower, harder, and louder than a new 1000 rms type r. and they are a great price.

Good performance from a low priced sub

High performance for the money. While not an audiophile or Pro-sub, this speaker lends itself to very low F3 numbers in a rather small cabinet. This speaker must really rock in a car, but I have shown that it works well in a home stereo system as a Bi-amped sub. I used it in a Bass Reflex cabinet that was very large compared to the recommended sizes that come with the speaker, but the performance is phenomenal. With a 300 W RMS amp I see SPL numbers of 115 Db @ 50 Hz and an even 100 Db way down at 20 Hz. (1 meter) Pretty good for a 12".

Pros: Low price, small cabinet requirements and fairly high power handling capability. Ability to produce very low frequencies at fairly high SPL's.

Cons: If you want true low frequency response it requires a BR enclosure larger than the designs given with the instructions. (2.7 to 4 ft.^3) rather than 2.0 ft.^3. I used 3.1 ft^3 cabinets tuned to 24 Hz with a 4" ID port. This definitely requires a 15 to 20 Hz high pass filter to prevent speaker over-excursion. If you are making a home theater system, spend your money on a better speaker like a Lab-12 or something.

Best $90 Sub

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this sub and wired it up to the Sound Ordinance M-2100 2 channel amp, and bridged it to 4ohm . Let me tell you how this sub pounds in my Intrepid! I used to have old model Punch P3 12's in my car, on a 1000w amp, and it never sounded this nice or this clear! Highly recommend purchasing this sub, you wont be disappointed!

Sounds Much Better Than I Thought

Written By Gregory B, Glen Burnie, MD on Tuesday, April 19, 2011

This subwoofer blew my expectations away. I knew it would sound better than my
old setup, it was low quality, but now, I am being heard at least 150 away from my
car. The box I have is ported, so there's some boom (which I wanted), but the sound
is not overly boomy, and never sloppy. I have a two-channel 250W RMS amp, so I
won't win competitions, but the bass is wonderful for the hip-hop/urban music I
listen to, and it brings depth to any other genre I happen to listen to in my car
(gospel, jazz, rock, I listen to it all). Great product!

A very tight and precise driver - not boomy or tasteless. Really helps to round
out the lower-mid to deep-low frequencies of my home setup and adds dimension to
all listening material.

This sub does an excellent job. I've got it wired up to a 2-channel amp that puts out 250 RMS @ 4 Ohms, and they are a perfect match. It handles every range of bass like a pro. And on top of everything, it looks great.

Enclosure Compatibility

High-efficiency Polypropylene Woofer Cone: This lightweight and popular material is used to ensure maximum woofer efficiency. The benefit is high output with modest amplifier power.

Large-roll Rubber Surround: The large-roll rubber surround provides optimum cone-edge suspension and absorbs distortion that may travel up the cone edge, ensuring clean, tight bass.

Dual 4-ohm Voice Coils: This woofer features dual 4-ohm voice coils that offer flexibility in wiring. When the voice coils are wired in parallel with each other, the woofer presents a 2-ohm mono load. When the voice coils are wired in series with each other, the woofer presents an 8-ohm mono load. In addition, each coil may be connected to a different amplifier channel and each channel will see a 4-ohm load.

Proprietary Basket: The unique in-board motor structure reduces the overall mounting depth, without limiting enclosure options.

Vented Polepiece: The vented polepiece provides additional cooling of the motor structure, thus increasing power handling.

Progressive Spider: The subwoofer uses a progressive spider, which provides better control at excursion limits than more commonly used linear spiders. The result is reduced distortion at high output levels.

Enclosure Compatibility

Sealed Box Volume: Infinity recommends a sealed enclosure with an internal volume of 1.25 cu/ft. Sealed enclosures provide the most control over a woofer, will handle more power, and provide more accurate sonic reproduction, making them suitable to all types of music.

Ported Box Volume: Infinity recommends a ported enclosure with an internal volume of 2.0 cu/ft with one 4" diameter x 10" long port. Ported (or vented) enclosures provide better efficiency in the 40-50Hz range, and are suitable for use with small amplifiers, giving you more bass output from less power. However, this efficiency comes at the expense of sound quality at low frequencies (40Hz and below), and control.

Bandpass Box Volume: Infinity recommends a bandpass enclosure with an internal volume of 2.25 cu/ft. The enclosure has a sealed chamber volume of 1.0 cu/ft and a ported chamber volume of 1.25 cu/ft with two 4" diameter x 8" long ports. Bandpass enclosures often provide the most output available from any amplifier and subwoofer combination at the expense of sonic accuracy. If sheer SPL is desired most, a bandpass enclosure is recommended.
