Large soft dome tweeters

If you're looking for natural-sounding high frequencies, Infinity uses edge-driven 3/4" soft dome tweeters in this system. The "edge-driven" design creates a larger tweeter that handles more power and delivers smooth response way down into midrange frequencies not covered by smaller "W"-shaped domes. You'll hear a more clearly defined soundstage where you can picture the placement of every instrument. Each tweeter also features a level control switch so you can adjust the brightness to your taste.

Glass fiber woofer with Plus One+ technology

The Kappa glass fiber woofer holds its shape when the power's cranked up, so you still get punchy and defined bass. Glass fiber weighs less than traditional materials, so you don't need a ton of power to drive this woofer. Infinity's Plus One+ woofer technology extends the cone right up to the edge of the basket, giving you more surface area than with most comparable speakers. A bigger cone means more bass to complement the superior high-frequency response.

Great for any system

These 2-ohm speakers are sensitive enough that you can power them with an aftermarket stereo, but you'll get your best results feeding them plenty of power from an outboard amp — up to 60 watts RMS.

Grilles are not included; the factory grilles should be suitable for most applications.

Product Research

Features

Plus One Woofer Cones: The Plus One speaker cones offer more surface area than other speakers that fit in the same size opening. This is accomplished by using a new basket design and hi-roll surround. The result is greater bass output and a significant increase in efficiency.

Formed Glass Fiber Woofer Cones: The formed glass fiber cone material is very light and extremely stiff, minimizing flex. This results in very low distortion and improved clarity.

iCGM frames: The Kappa series speaker baskets are made of composite Injected Carbon Glass Matrix (iCGM). iCGM is lighter and stronger than stamped steel; it retains its shape, even when mounted on uneven surfaces (common in car mounting locations), plus offers exceptional damping of any resonances.

Edge Driven Dome Tweeters: Each speaker has a 3/4" Edge-driven textile soft dome tweeter. An edge-driven tweeter has better dispersion characteristics and allows for a lower crossover frequency than typical tweeters of the same size, which improves imaging. The result is improved vocals and musical clarity. The tweeter also has an adjustable output level, +0 dB (flat) and +3 dB.

High-Output Design: The high output 2-ohm voice coil design compensates for the high in-line resistance of small gauge factory wiring and extracts every watt from factory receivers, increasing overall system output and efficiency (relative to 4 ohm speakers). The speaker's 2.0-ohm impedance combined with the impedance of your speaker wire provides a true 4-ohm load to your connected headunit or amplifier. The speakers also benefit from increased power when you upgrade the wire and add aftermarket amplifiers, designed to power a 2-ohm load.

Power Handling: Although Infinity lists the RMS power handling as 60 watts, they also list the recommended power range as 5-100 watts RMS. We've opted to list the more conservative 60 watt RMS figure on the specifications page.

Q
Dear crutchfield, I would really appreciate if you could mention the crossover frequency point of this 2-way system? Thank you in advance, Kostas

The high-pass filter frequency for the built-in tweeters of these speakers is not published by Infinity. I can tell you it is at a frequency optimized for the tweeter and ensures it does not receive any frequencies below the range it can produce accurately. If you need the specific cutoff frequency, you can try contacting Infinity directly: 800-553-3332 I hope that helps! My Bio: http://www.crutchfield.com/Support/Bio.aspx?bio=5

Q
Will these fit in the dash of a 2006 Wrangler? Says they won't but doesn't say why. I see some people have put them in other models close to the same year.

How should I think about the button on the speakers for the tweeter? Nothing about it in the manual. Up or down what is the difference? which sounds better? Thanks!

It is to control the crossover for the speakers. Set it up one way then sit and listen, do the same for the other setting which setting sounds best in your car. Go for it.

I went with the +3 db setting on these. I think that was with the button pushed in. The only reason to do this that I could come up with was that I got a bit more highs at lower volumes. It helped brighten up the sound in my truck a bit more.

Q
If I'm replacing the front dash speakers in my jeep wrangler do I need a amp or should I be fine running them without one?

Thanks man. I'll probably run them without an amp until I get some money. I just didn't know if they would work at all without one.

I bought the 462.11 speakers for the front dash and the 52.11 for the sound bar in my 04 Wrangler. I wanted speakers with a 90 or higher dB Sensitivity rating. Wired them in to the stock wiring harness and we can now hear the radio with the top and doors off. If my radio goes out I'll replace it with something with more power but for now the stock radio sounds a lot better after replacing the speakers. I was thinking of replacing the radio at the same time but being cheep I decided to change out the speakers first to see how it sounded. Hope this helps.

The speakers will sound great if your powering them by an after market head unit. But keep in mind most after market head units push out 45 watts peek power not RMS power. So chances are if you run them off of the head unit you could only push the speakers at half capacity. If you amp them you will get the full capacity of the speakers.
