Our take on the Infinity Kappa 52.5i

Infinity makes Kappa Series speakers for the mobile audio connoisseur who appreciates the refined elegance of adjustable tweeters, and yet demands powerful bass output. The 52.5i 5-1/4" Kappas feature angled, Ceramic Metal Matrix Diaphragm tweeters that swivel 355°, giving you precise imaging control.

The Plus One C.M.M.D. woofers incorporate a unique basket structure and a repositioned hi-roll rubber surround into a Plus One cone design (30% larger than most similar-sized speakers) to achieve maximum bass output. Infinity includes two high-quality, voice-matched outboard crossovers that send clean, pure signal to the drivers.

Features

Ceramic Metal Matrix Diaphragm (C.M.M.D.): Infinity's C.M.M.D. technology delivers accurate performance with dramatically reduced distortion for incredibly lifelike sound. Additionally, the C.M.M.D. drivers can withstand extreme temperatures, moisture, humidity and sunlight.

C.M.M.D. Plus One Woofer Cones: These speakers use cones approximately 30% larger than other speakers of the same size. This is accomplished by using a new basket design and hi-roll surround. The Plus One design offers greater bass output and a significant increase in efficiency. In addition, the C.M.M.D. cones virtually eliminate coloration due to cone flexing, resulting in less distortion and superior accuracy.

Surrounds: The hi-roll rubber surrounds allow the woofers a greater range of movement, resulting in longer X-max and more bass output.

UniPivot C.M.M.D. Dome Tweeters: Each speaker has a 3/4" C.M.M.D. dome tweeter that offers superior stiffness and damping compared to traditional metal domes. The UniPivot tweeter is angled (non-adjustable) and may be turned up to 355 degrees for optimum imaging and in-car frequency response. It is not made to turn 360 degrees. If the tweeter is turned 360 degrees or more, it will be damaged.

2-Way Crossovers: These speakers include computer-optimized, voice-matched crossovers. Each crossover features an 18dB/octave, 3.5kHz high-pass network for the tweeter and an 18dB/octave, 3.5kHz low-pass network for the woofer.

Crossover Connections: Each crossover has an 11" input lead terminated with bare wire and two 18" output leads, one for the woofer and one for the tweeter, terminated with female quick-slides. The positive woofer lead has a 0.205" female quick-slide and the negative woofer lead has a 0.110" female quick-slide. The positive tweeter lead has a 0.250" female quick-slide and the negative tweeter lead has a 0.187" female quick-slide. These quick-slides connect directly to the woofer and tweeter terminals on each speaker.

Crossover Dimensions: L=3.458", W=1.734", H=1.087"

amazing improvement from lower grade speakers

Written By mrb, Columbus, Ohio, USA on Tuesday, April 05, 2005

I recently ordered these 5.25 Kappas to replace an older set of Eclipse speakers I had installed years ago in my 99 Wrangler. My Alpine V12 5-channel amp (just enough power for some decent sound) along with new 4x6 Kappas in the front and an 8-inch JL Audio custom mini sub, and for the first time, it does not sound like a jeep stereo.

Don't waste your time with the lower level 5.25s (or the 4x6s in the dash) if you have problems with the mounting depth like in a jeep. Spend the extra $$, upgrade your head unit or add a modest amp, and you will be amazed at the difference $50 can make.
