great speakers

Written By Rory, New Milford, CT on Monday, April 23, 2007

installed these in the front and rear doors of my 2001 S10 Crew Cab. overall they are great speakers, unless you are pushing a lot of bass, then you might want to think about crossovers. i had alpine type S's in my old car and they cant even come close to the quality of the references this is a good price too.

Outstanding Clarity

Written By Robert, Kalamazoo, MI on Monday, April 16, 2007

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed these in the front doors of my 2000 Honda Insight, and they fit perfectly with no modifications required. These speakers continue to sound better and better as they break in. They have outstanding clarity and smooth highs, as does every Infinity I've ever heard. Instrumentals and vocals sound just fantastic! Bass is adequate but not fabulous, but they are limited by their size and thus I don't knock them for it. I set the high-pass filter on my head unit (Kenwood KDC-X591) to 60 Hz, which eliminated muddy washed-out sounding bass at the expense of some thump.

I am planning on adding a compact powered subwoofer at some point, just to round out the bottom end, but even by themselves they're leaps and bounds better than the stock speakers. I recommend them highly.

Infinity update

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I recently inherited a 1995 Plymouth Voyager with the factory Infinity audio system. After replacing the OEM headunit due to a disfunctional clock and adding a 6CD changer and Sirius receiver, I thought I'd swap out the 12 year old OEM Infinity speakers for more up to date versions. Hence my purchase of these 6012si References and the matching 5.5" dash and 6x9" door panel Refs. First, I think the 6x9s would have worked in the rear hatch eventhough Crutchfield indicates they would not. Both the 6012s and the 6x9s were more difficult to install than expected. I had to drill holes in the door mounts to get the 6x9s in. I don's know what Chrysler was thinking when they faced the door panel speakers directly into the front seat bolsters, rendering them nearly inaudible except when the doors are open. The 5.5s fit the instrument panel perfectly though and were the easiest to install.

Overall, the sound quality is good. As expected, light on bass and treble is excellent. They still need to "break in" but I'm not sure the whole swap is enough of an improvement over the old OEM Infinitys to have justified the cost of replacement. I guess speaker technology hasn't improved as much as I anticipated. Live and learn.

Good speakers, not so good instructions

Written By jacky, Grapevine, TX on Monday, April 09, 2007

The speakers are a good value. I got them on sale. I'ved used Crutchfield for years; always good instructions, great customer service. These instructions were not up to par with others. I had to improvise a bit (break out the Dremel). It took me about 2-3 hours to removal the OEM's and install the new ones. They sound good, but don't have a lot of bass. Ijust use my rear speakers for the bass.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I replaced the stock speakers in a 07 Honda Ridgeline with these. I did not realize how bad the stock speakers were until I installed these. I do not have a problem with a lack of bass because I have the factory installed subwoofer. The highs are much more crisp and I feel that I am hearing the music as it is intended.

Just using the instructions I would not have been able to install. Just know that you will need to drill holes to install the adapter bracket. Actually you will need afix the metal bracket included with the speaker to the adapter bracket supplied by Crutchfield. You will then attach the speaker to the metal bracket. You will also need to cut off the long screws supplied with the speaker once you have installed the metal bracket on the plastic adapter bracket... if that makes any sense.

It took me 2 hours to do the first speaker and an hour to do the other three.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I love the speakers because they offer excellent clarity for vocals and instrumentation. I also have bass blockers on them to keep them from blowing out and they work great. Since I have Infiniti 6x9's in the rear bass isn't a real problem. My only problem is that Crutchfield didn't give me any screws to connect the speakers to the adaptor. Other than that (1/2 hour finding screws) things were great. Speakers 5 and no screws make if a four.

All I expected

Written By Paul, Redmond, WA on Saturday, February 10, 2007

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

As others have noted, these speakers are not going to shake you with bass. Being shallow 6.5's, though, one shouldn't expect that.

The high frequencies truly sparkle, and mid-range is clear, tight and full. With even a small (8") subwoofer, though, the sound is fantastic.

I have these in the back deck, with a pair of 6.5" Kappa components up front and an 8" Kappa sub in the trunk. A similar setup would more than satisfy anyone who's not looking to shake the windows.

Overall, I've preferred Infinity speakers to everything I've owned except some very pricey Boston Acoustics. The only disappointment I've had was with the white-cone Reference series. After less than 3 years in the back deck, the cones literally fell apart. They were like crumbled parchment. These, though appear more substantial and I'll hope for better longevity.

#1 in Clarity.

Written By Tyler, Hawaii on Friday, February 09, 2007

I used to only believe in alpine products until i recenly heard how clear Infinity's are and have purchased them ever since. My only complaint is that i wish it had a pivoting tweeter. Also get the dynamat for the doors or wherever your installing new speakers, because the music will sound so much fuller with it than without it. My system consists of infinity 6 1/2's and 2 12in infinty kappa perfects running off a jl audio 500/1 amp.

Less than expected

Written By Mason, CA on Monday, February 05, 2007

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers play good mids and highs, but the lows are just not there. In fact, my factory speakers, which aren't even quite 6.5's, played deeper bass with less distortion. Later I switched from the factory radio to a new Pioneer receiver, which improved the sound a little but it still can't match the bass of the former system.

Great Speaker

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have a '99 Honda Accord with an aftermarket Kenwood deck and a new set of 6x9's in the rear. The 6x9's really take care of the bass so a sub isnt very necessary and these speakers in the front make such a difference as well. I used to only have aftermarket 6x9's but they dont make half the difference in highs and mids as these Infinity's do. I listen to all genres of music and they all sound so much more natural now. For the price, these are truly an excellent buy.

The only reason why I give these speakers 4 stars are because the mounting screws used for my car (supplied by infinity) are only about 1/8'' long, and it just seems like a recipe for a rattle.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Just put these in my '01 GMC Jimmy front doors and at first I was kind of disapointed. The bass was there just not real strong. Not enough juice was the problem. A buddies cheap amp and some wiring later and those babies rock! 50-75RMS is what you'll need. Incredible upgrade for those who don't want subs but you will have to go all the way or no way.

Its Infinity...enough said...

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Put these in the front doors of an '05 Civic relatively easily. Had to drill new holes for the included speaker mounts which the speakers barely fit into (could only get two screws in each speaker to bracket mount because speakers are a bit wider than the brackets). I got all of the door panel to snap back in except for the one around the speaker, can't really tell the difference though. It was a tight fit, but the speakers sound great...lots of treble! With an amplifier, these would make a perfect system. Two thumbs up.

Good mid grade speakers

Written By Todd, Dark Star, Colorado on Tuesday, January 23, 2007

As stated in previous reviews, these are NOT subwoofers. However, they are very good speakers for most music. If you are a thumper adict, get yourself a real subwoofer, 6 1/2" coaxials aren't made for that.

I have these in the back door of a 2004 Dodge Quad Cab (1500) (6x9 Kappas in front) and they sound very good. Clean, crisp and precise sound. I have the LF cutoff set at 80 and they seem to be handling the bass above that very well.

Factory Replacement in 2001 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab w/Infinity System

Written By Troy, Decatur, IL on Wednesday, January 17, 2007

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

My first impression taking them out of the box was "man these babies are going to perform". Boy was I wrong. They were overall quieter than the originals. The bass sounded like the speaker was mounted in a plastic cup. Although they offered a little bit more of a broader upper mid to high range, with no type of low end they are not a good choice for any type of music. Another thing to keep in mind is that I use the back of my cab with the seats up all of the time so I don't have the room for a subwoofer. I know they are only 6 1/2", but Infinity brags about clean tight bass. I can get the same quality for half the price in the Pioneers. By the way, I gave them 2 stars because they actually produced decent (better quality but quieter) sounding highs.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought these to replace the factory Infinity speakers in the doors of my Dakota. Sound quality is good with the speakers being powered modestly by my 16W Alpine head unit. Low frequencies are clean and controlled, but not particularly deep. This makes for a good complement to my Infinity Kappa Perfect sub. Without the sub, these wouldn't be completely satisfying for bass-heavy music.

Mids and highs are clean and crystal clear. I was a bit disappointed that these didn't have a pivoting tweeter, since the door speakers are set low in the door and my ankles get more of the high frequencies than my ears do. But because the tweeters are plenty loud, I can compensate by just cranking the treble.

Installation was pretty easy, though Infinity's directions on using their included mounting system are minimal, and the screws that mount the plastic 6 3/4" adapter plate are way longer than they need to be, and I had to cut them off to get them to work with my factory speaker bracket. All in all, I'd call these a good buy.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought two pair of these, one set for a 1999 Honda Civic EX Coupe, and one for a 2000 Honda Insight. They're definitely a big step up from the flimsy factory units, much better construction and materials. The sound is noticeably cleaner and more detailed in my Civic now. I was a bit disappointed that these "low profile" versions don't feature the pivoting tweeters present on their 6012i cousins. On the upside, the shallow depth resulted in zero modification required to install them in the Civic, and will take only a tiny bit of trimming on the Insight doors to make them work. Overall I'm quite pleased.

Oh, and as always, Crutchfield service is fantastic! :)

Great speakers for 2005 Pilot for price

Written By powerterry, Alameda, CA on Thursday, November 30, 2006

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

2005 Pilot EXL with DVD Nav. Got 2 sets (6012si) to replace original stock Alpine speakers on all 4 doors. Went for the buy 1 and get 2nd pair half off from the Dent and Scratch section. Great buy. D & S were brand new, no scratches or dents - what a savings! Sound quality is much more improved than stock Pilot speakers - better lows and highs. I can actually hear the lyrics now. Stock radio does the best that it can. Crutchfield instructions clear.

May look to Crutchfield to replace subwoofer in future.

Tip: Remove window control. There is 1 screw you need to remove to take off panel. Reuse speaker basket, but remove 3 plastic tabs and widen open section (break off section) so that wire connects will fit. Also use Infinity circular silver metal adapter to remount basket to door(with original 3 screws), then mount Infinity speaker on metal adapter with 4 small screws that came with Infinity. First door took 1.5 hr, remainder 1/2 hr each. Crutchfield has best return policy if the speaker does not work for you.

Good, But Not What I Was Looking For

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought these speakers for the rear hatch of my 2001 Hyundai Elantra GT. Since I do not desire to use a subwoofer, I wanted a speaker that could deliver decent bass response. I also wanted a high quality brand, so I chose the Infinity 6012si. The "si" version was supposed to fit my car, while the standard 6012 was not supposed to fit.

After installing them, I noticed that the highs were a bit bright for my taste. They even overpowered the highs in the front stock separate tweeters mounted high on the front doors. Overall, this wasn't a huge issue and could be a positive factor for those needing brighter highs.

However, the woofer seemed to have difficulty handling powerful bass, even at moderate volume levels. The stock front speakers pumped the bass fine, while the Infinitys in the rear actually bottomed out. I was pretty disappointed with this.

If you have a subwoofer and need bright highs, these would b a great speaker. They simply didn't work for me.

Good Speakers

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I just purchased these babies and I can say they were a little tough mounting them in a 2002 Jeep Libety. Even though the system says they fit, some prefab was necessary with the "holes" for the speakers. With the included brackets the screws mounting the speaker to the bracket hit the outer perimeter of the speaker "hole".

Those areas had to be removed using a slip drill bit in order to remove small portions of the door frame.

Despite all that they went in pretty easily and sound great. I would say about a 25-30% improvement from the factory paper cones.

Now the real project begins by adding an amp and some subs. Once all is said and done my Jeep will be rockin'.

after i install this in my 93 trooper, i found out i could not really feel the bass from this speaker, two infinity are working great, much better sound, so much more high frequency sound goes to my ears than my old one, sounds very clear. even the high volume.
but the bass doesn't sound that much, compare with the old speaker. but i have a 12" sub so that's not a issue for me....
if you listen to classic, or some light music... this infinity is the one!!
if you have other speker for the low frequency sound, this can be used for any kind of musics.

These speakers fit great into the OEM mount in my 2001 Subaru Legacy using the included adapter rings. Install was a breeze since there was no need to cut the mount or install baffles.

I also highly recommend the OEM Subaru subwoofer (not available from Crutchfield, but you can find it online) in conjunction with the bass blockers available from Crutchfield. I am very happy with the quality sound I have with this setup and the top notch service.

I bought these speakers for my '04 Santa Fe to replace the stock speakers. It was a definite improvement. You gotta play around a bit w/ your head unit's equalizer to get the speakers sounding good. The bass is so-so. Other than that, these speakers were definitely worth their price.

Fantastic replacement speakers

Written By wac764, Branford, FL on Sunday, September 17, 2006

I got a pair of these to replace the front pair in my 2004 Dodge Dakota Quad cab. The install was SUPER easy and for the pair, took about an hour. The instructions for removing my door panels was extremely helpful and comforting. I've never done any kind of car stereo install and therefore approached this with a high level of stress. I was pleasantly surprised with the simplicity of the project.
As for the speaker quaility,it's awesome! When compared with the factory paper cone Infinity speakers, these are a 200% improvement. I'm kickin' myself for paying what I did for this "premium" option. As far as the complaints I've read about the bass,...Ah,phooey! These speakers will provide all the bass that you need unless you're a "SERIOUS" bass person. If your into classic rock, jazz, country, or good ole R&B, you should be satisfied. If you're a heavy hittin' Hip-Hop hoodlum, you're gonna need a sub-woofer no matter what speakers you use.
I give these 4 stars instead of five only because there are better speakers out there, obviously. But, for the price and my personal application, these are fantastic! I just might replace the rear pair for a Christmas gift to myself.

Installed these in my wife's 2001 S10 Blazer, both front and back. It was a bit tricky wrt drilling out rivots of the OEM mounts in the front, but this was pointed out to me before I bought them by Crutchfield. Once we got by that, installation was a breeze. Thanks to the tip here on using metal mounting ring for rear installation. That sure made it go a lot easier.

The sound quality is ten fold better than the original manufacturers speakers. I am using these Infinitys with the KENWOOD MP2032 Deck. These speakers are an excellent buy for the money!

I bought these speakers to replace my 4 stock speakers. I can now hear the Music that I have been missing for so long in my Honda Pilot. Now I can hear the highs and the lows. And long drives is less tiring while listening to the music I like with the Infinitys.

With proper tools and following instructions from Crutchfield, install was easy with minor adjustments on the fit. But once I was able to figure out how to install the first speaker, the remaining three speakers was just a breeze.

Great Speakers, Difficult Installation

Written By pmnick, Hilliard, OH on Sunday, July 30, 2006

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought these speakers to replace the factory speakers in my 1996 Legacy L Sedan.

PROS: These speakers sound fantastic! I paired them with a set of Pioneer TS-A1681Rs in the front, and have noticed a 150% improvement in sound quality. I recently installed a new Alpine CDA-9857 head unit, and am completely satisfied with the results. Everything sounds great -- classical, rock, rap, podcasts, etc.

CONS: It took me about 3 hours to install the speakers. To fit in my Subaru's rear deck, I eventually figured out that I had to use the included metal ring to fit the three holes predrilled in the metal. Would have saved me a lot of time if the instructions included this tip! Also, to attach the speakers to the ring, you have to use the impossibly short screws included with the speakers. I felt like I was performing surgery trying to get the screws into the holes. To save others a lot of trial and error time: attach the ring to the deck, THEN attach the speakers.

Overall, I'm very pleased with the results, but the instructions from Crutchfield were (uncharacteristically) lacking.

Nevertheless, these speakers are a great value. I tweaked the base settings on my Alpine, and personally, don't see any need for a subwoofer. Also, don't waste your money on a Dynamat for the rear deck of a Subaru -- it doesn't really fit without trimming away more than a 1/3 of it.

where's the mids?

Written By josh, Edmonds, Washington on Sunday, July 16, 2006

I installed these in the doors (only 2) in my 97 vw golf gti allong with an alpine 9856 head unit. At first it seemed as though they were a big upgrade over the factory head unit and door speakers. Towards the end of the 30 day period where you can return the speakers however, i noticed that they did not sound up to par w/ the old ones. While sitting in the back seat of my car, i noticed how much fuller and clearer the sound was w/ full rear fade than sitting in the front seats w/ full front fade. After putting the factory speakers back in the front (they are components maybe thats why they sound better) i noticed that it was not the new infinity's that increased the sound quality, but my new head unit. I would say that these speakers have pretty good highs, but the mids are very weak, and like most 6 1/2" speakers the bass is not very good. I ended up returning these speakers for a refund because of their poor performance.

I have the Infinity system in my '99 Dakota and wanted something to replace the factory speakers with (after 7 years the factory speakers finally gave out). The 6012si speakers have awesome high and mid range, but don't buy them for their base; there isn't any. The crackling factory speakers put out more base than these do. It was very disappointing. I have no doubt that these would work very well with a sub, but don't waste your time if you want out of the box base reproduction that's worth anything.

Good front speakers

Bought these to replace blown front stock speakers on my 2000 Intrepid. Overall, I'm very happy with these speakers as they are really crisp sounding and pretty loud but also clear. The only thing I would recommend to anybody purchasing is that they don't necessarily produce the most bass, so make sure you have either a sub or some harder hitting 6x9's in the back.

Good value, disappointing performance.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased these speakers for my '98 Chrysler Sebring coupe to replace worn out speakers in the front doors. My car has the optional Infinity system with the amp in the trunk and 6 speakers around the car.

After installing them and trying them a bit, I realized the adapters sent to put them in vibrated and made some noise on low passages. So, I removed them and just screwed the speakers right to the door panel - works MUCH better!

At first, I suspected that the speakers I removed were more suited to the amp because these new ones don't seem to have the same output (volume) as the other speakers - which are all still stock Infinity. Also, at higher volumes, the lows tend to make popping noises that sound like bubble-wrap being popped. The vocals are also almost discernible - this I think IS attributed to the amp, sending the highs to the tweeters up front.

Overall though, I can't complain - a replacement pair of OEMs from Chrysler would have cost over $200. I think when I have some spare change again, I'll pool it to get some OEM speakers to replace these.

I installed these in my 98 civic (work commuter car) in the front doors. They fit nicely after I cut out the plastic backing in the door, as crutchfield recommended.

They sound truely nice. The range of these speakers are nice from about 78Hz on up. The voice sounds coming from them are really natural. I listened to the polks, pioneer revs, kickers and blau's and these sounded cleaner at louder volumes that any of the others. I listen to classic rock, metal, old school rap and country and they handle anything you throw at them. You can't go wrong with these.

I screwed the speakers directly to the doors, ran the speaker wires to the trunk (PITA), and hooked the up to a RF Punch 4040DSM using the amp's 100hz high-pass crossover. So far I'm loving the setup, very clear and they don't get muddy because I have the crossover in use. Highly recommended for a coaxial speaker to complete a simple setup.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed these speakers in the rear deck of my Saturn sedan (SL2) because the OEM speakers developed a buzz. Install was a piece of cake, they dropped right in and hookup was a breeze as well with the speaker harness supplied by Crutchfield.

Sound-wise they do pretty well. My only disappointment with them is that you can't really bump up the bass without making them sound like a balloon is popping. Probably not the best speaker if you listen to alot of rap. I don't, but I noticed it listening to metal (Black Label Society).

Might be a better door speaker than one for the rear deck. For my application, they're not "great" but they're not "horrible" either. Seem very middle of the pack to me.

These are excellent speakers. I installed these in the front door panels of my 2000 Toyota 4Runner. They were easy to install, thanks to Crutchfields excellent instructions. I hooked them up to a Pioneer deck (DEH-P4700MP) I had installed earlier. They are far superior to the factory speakers.. great highs and midrange... and there is such an increase in bass response, that I actually "FEEL" it! Not like a sub would do.. doesnt rattle the whole vehicle, but SO much better than it was.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The sound quality in the mid to high area is much better than factory but I feel the factory speakers had a better bass response. Went ahead and left the factory tweets hooked up for now and also I did not put on bass blockers. They are being run by a Kenwood DPX-MP4070.I may add an amp later on.The install kit that crutchfield sends only shows using one spacer.I ended up using both spacers, the one that crutchfield sends and the one with the speakers (I wanted to make sure the magnet cleared the window in a down position). The factory speakers are about one inch thick. To make contact with the factory grill foam for a seal on the door panel,I used the two spacers plus the infinity grill to make a good seal, plus I used weather stripping to seal the spacers to the metal.Everything seemed to fit. They do not offer a wiring harness for my car so I had to cut and solder. Also had to drill a hole and add a grommet to get the wire from inside the door to factory wiring harness..

Note:The only reason I replaced the factory speakers is because they are 2 Ohm and will not work with an aftermarket head unit that requires 4 Ohm.Also the factory speakers are a Clarion made in China, but they are rubber surround with a plastic cone.

This was one of the best speaker I ever bought. The sound is crystal clear. The only problem,I think is with the bass. If you need better bass try some other speakers.Overall for my needs this is perfect. The speaker harness crutchfield send exactly match with the factory adaptors. The sales expert actually run through every thing, I need for my speakers. The interesting thing is shipping...very nice...I received the very next day.For the price and features I would recomment anyone this speakers

I bought 4 of these speakers to replace the ones in my son's nisson maxima. They sound really nice. The tweeters can be positioned towards the front since they rotate at a slight angle. We installed them by was easy with the free wiring harnesses Crutchfield supplied. The highs and midrange are fantastic, but are a little sparce on the bass. With a sub woofer it really rounds out the sound great. We also put an amplified sub in the trunk too....all from Crutchfield...the only way to buy! Trust can't go wrong buying these speakers from this it!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I decided to put this pair in my 1991 Mazda Miata Mx5 that is being restored. I could only do a 2 speaker + tweeters system due to the build. You can do subs with a Miata but it takes a LOT of mods. I don't need the subs. The sound is GREAT. I modded the door panels so that the speakers tilt back slightly. One suggestion to you if you decide to get this pair is DON'T use the speaker Baffles. You lose all of the HIGHS quality, and the bass improvement really isn't that great. If you go without the baffles, this pair is worth every penny. LOUD TOO!!

Great Overall

Written By Brad, Cincinnati, OH on Saturday, April 08, 2006

I bought these speakers for my wife's Altima and am overall really impressed. The original system had some nice Onkyo factory speakers, but they still were lacking true tweeters. There were factory tweeters up high in the door but I just unplugged them because they interfered with the awesome high clarity from the Infinity tweeters. The bass is quite good and gives a nice bump, but it's certainly not overwhelming. That (the bass) may be the only somewhat weak point, but it is a smaller speaker. However, distortion in the speaker does not happen until you crank it to a rediculous level. I even went the hard install route with these because I thought they looked so good with the Infinity grilles and I wanted better sound by mounting them through the deck cover, making them visible and open to the cabin. All in all, great speakers for the money and possibly a hair better than some Polk db650's I installed recently.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I got these speakers from Crutchfield's Outlet Center a couple of months ago. Everything I received looked perfectly new... not even a scratch. I bought them to put in my 97 Jeep Cherokee SE I got last summer, which originally came with a radio and two door speakers. I put in a new head unit last summer, which I also got from Crutchfield. I wanted something simple and stealthy, so that when I park my Jeep out in the middle of nowhere while I'm canoeing or hiking, it wouldn't look like there was something worth stealing. These speakers fit right under the factory grilles. The difference between these and the factory speakers is simply amazing. They sound so good. I didn't even realize my $80 head unit could perform so well! I can crank them way up with no flab. Even though other reviews complain about lack of bass, I'm very happy with mine. They probably listen to music that really requires a sub. I think if you listen to rock like me you'll be extremely pleased. One word of warning, though.... don't use speaker baffles. They'll suck the sound quality right out. I'm seriously considering the 6012's with the pivoting tweets for my Honda Del Sol next.

Great for mids and highs

Written By Lisbeth, Carson City, Nv on Tuesday, March 21, 2006

I bought these speakers to replace my factory speakers in a 95' Honda Civic. I also have a mtx amp powering them and the difference fromt he stock speakers are amazing. The mids and highs are extremely clear but unfortunately the lows can sound muddy when turned up. I would recommend getting a subwoofer to complete the spectrum of sound. Ive been using them for months without a sub and they are still awesome but if you want everything perfect, then get a subwoofer.

Just installed these speakers in the front doors of my '99 Toyota Tacoma extra cab, Installation was a bit involved. I didn't use the supplied adapter plate that came free with this order. I simply installed the adapter ring that came with these speaker over the existing stock plate, (much easier). The highs and midrange of these are great, just what I wanted. The bass on these are just are great. Mind you, I'm not much for pounding bass in by ride. I have these matched to a Pioneer DEH-P3800MP Head Unit and Audiobahn AS62Q 6.75 inchers in the back quater panel. All purchased from crutchfield. Highly recommend these speakers.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've installed car stereos for 30 years. From 8 Track to MP3/WMA players. Installation has improved a LOT since then. The Infinity Reference 6012si were installed in a 98 Accord Coupé EX (my wife's car). The stock speakers are componenet speakers with a 6 1/2 mid bass and tweeters in the dash. Head unit:Alpine CDA-9830 Amplifiers:Alpine MRP-F240 4ch. Profile HA700M 1ch. I left the stock tweeters in place since Crutchfied doesn't carry a component system where the tweeter grills come off. These speaker have very good highs even with the stock tweeters in the dash you can still hear them. I can't judge the lows accurately until I install some Dynamat on the doors. At high power there is a lot of resonance on the Honda's doors that distort the low end. Installation could have been easier if I had modified the stock speaker mounting bracket. Very good value, I highly recommend.

Not worth the price, comparable to $50 Kenwood's

Written By no, Portland, OR on Tuesday, February 21, 2006

I bought these speakers to replace some Kenwood 6.5 I had bought off of crutchfeild three years earlier. I had paid 50 bucks for the Kenwood's KFC-1677. I a-b these to one another and could barely notice any difference (I have a BA in music). What I did notice was the infinity's where not as punchy on the bass. Both have good sounding highs and mids, maybe a hair better clarity in the infinity's but a very small hair (and remember the Kenwood's are 3 years old.)

Overall these speakers sound good but you can get the same sound from 50 buck Kenwood's AND have more bass (if this is important to you.)

Not worth the price, comparable to $50 Kenwood's

My Setup - Kenwood KDC-MP4028 Head Unit - Infinity 6012si (front doors) - factory tweeters - Infinity 6012i (rear deck) - visonik v117sx 400w amp pushing 1 Infinity 1232w dvc 1200w max sub in a sealed box.
These speakers are amazing, so clean, and crisp. I personally do not think it is worth it to get a componet set after hearing these speakers. This speaker won for me. Its sister speaker is in my rear deck, and this is an awesome setup, if you can, get 4. The 6012si and the 6012i sound the same, so I would recommend the si b/c it was a little easier to get into the hole. For the money, sound quality, and ease of installation I give this speaker 5 stars.

Decent Speaker, quirky install

Written By darren, Illinois on Sunday, February 05, 2006

The sound is reasonable for the price. The midrange in particular was a big improvement from the OEM speakers in a 2006 Honda Odyssey. Voices are now clear instead of muddled.

Though Crutchfield claimed this was a recommended fit model, the install was quirky. It required two adapter plates that barely fit together and then needed to have the screws sunk into the plastic Honda bushing underneath. Definitely not a clean install for the front door of a newer Odyssey minvian. During a discussion with Crutchfield tech support, I was told the Infinity 5.25" or Boston 6.5" model might be a better fit since they only needed one adapter ring. I wish I had known that in advance...

In any case, it's a decent speaker for a reasonable price. Nothing spectacular, but a solid upgrade for the junk used by Honda.

Very Nice Speakers

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Car: 97 Acura 3.2 TL
Audio: Factory Head Unit/System

Pros: Very good Highs and Mids
Very clear and clean sound reproduction
Very impressive construction quality

Cons: Not much bass output
Plus One Cone setup did not fit the space. Had to bolt spekers directly to doors using included foam gasket.

Summary: Speakers are highly recommended if you have another source for bass (6x9 in the rear or a subwoofer). Very clean and clear sound. The power from the Acura factory head unit is sufficient for powering them and giving a clean undistorted sound. Not recommended it you are planning to replace all speakers and you don't have a separate source for bass.

Infinity vs. Infinity...After market vs. OEM

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had my wife get me these speakers for Christmas to replace the factory speakers in my '98 Eclipse which had served me well since I bought the car new but have had 2 of them blow in the last year. My Eclipse had the premium sound package which was all Infinity (Head Unit, Amp, and 6 Speakers). I decided to install the rear speakers first. After installing 1 rear speaker replacing the one that was blown I compared it head to head with the working factory in the rear. At low volume it sounded OK, maybe a little tinty. At higher volume and with tracks that had heavy bass the speaker did not perform well. The 9 year old factory Infinity blew it out of the water. I like a good sounding stereo. I never felt the need to upgrade the factory system in this car, but if I kept these 6012's the car would need a sub to carry the low end bass. I have decided to return these speakers and order factory replacements from Mitsubishi. This will run me about $100 more, but I think it is worth it. Though these speakers may be better than most other factory speakers I found it not to be the case for my car.

Great Replacement Speakers!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I just bought a used 98 Honda CRV, and the first thing I had to do was get rid of the factory paper cone speakers! Bought 2 pairs to replace the front and rears. Wow, what a big diference! The highs are crystal clear and the bass is way better, but not gut wrenching. If you're looking for really deep bass then consider a powered subwoofer, not just for these speakers but for most 6 1/2's. As for the install, something the mastersheet does not mention is that for a 98 CRV you MUST USE THE MOUNTING RING in order for these speakers to fit! The factory speakers have 3 holes while these have 4, and they don't line up. Once the ring was in place all that was needed was the 4 really tiny screws that came with the speakers. All in all I'm very satisfied with the sound!

The speakers are a good upgrade, you can now hear the radio above the engine noise.
The BIG problem is the adaptor rings.I bought from Crutchfield because of the adaptors that are included. The rings did not fit the front or rear doors well, and the Tech's answer was to use self tapping screws.Including the 2 trips to the hardware store it took 5 hrs, in what could have been a one hour job.I spent $5 in extra parts, used "Locktite" for the screws and I hope they do not back out with the vibration. This was a Xmass gift for my wife.I would not do this again.Too bad,I like working on cars.

I installed these speakers in my 2000 Honda Accord sedan to replace the factory door speakers. It made my driving commute more enjoyable since these speakers really brought out the accuracy of the sound. I can't wait till I replace my factory rear deck speakers with Infinity 6X9 speakers to improve the bass. I would recommend these speakers to everyone, they really sound awesome.

The only problem I had was the Crutchfield MasterSheet installation procedures for 2000 Honda Accord Sedan front door speakers is incorrect. Instructions for taking off the door panels is right on, but was told to modify the Honda speaker bracket to make these speakers fit which seems impossible because the speaker is larger than the bracket itself, so I ended up drilling new mounting holes in door and mounted speakers directly onto the door itself. It was worth the extra work and time for these speakers and I didn't have any interference with window or anything else.

They mids and high are excellent but the bass is lacking. Which is to be expected really so it wasnt much of a loss. Although the factory 4 x 6s put out better bass. That did surprise me though. Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I used to have (4) 15 watt 4 ohm Panasonics as factory speakers in my 1998 Nissan Maxima. They sounded tinny in the high end, and muddy in the low end. I took the plunge and ordered 4 of these as replacements based on the reviews and the cost.

They arrived within 2 business days, as promised. The information from Crutchfield on how to install them was very exact and tailored for my make and model of car. They even included some spare mounting hardware (which I didn't need) as well as some adhesive-backed foam strips. The only thing I had to do for the fronts was drill out the pilot holes for the mounting screws another 1/4" deep. Not a problem.

Even with my factory head unit and CD player, the difference was remarkable. I do not have any sort of external aftermarket amplifier installed either. I am an acoustics engineer by trade, so I'm a pretty particular customer for sound quality. The best area that improved was the high end response. Very, very crisp, especially with digitally recorded CD music.

The bass response was also improved, but the limitations imposed by my Maxima's door panels vibrating tended to mask this a bit. Perhaps some tweaking with Dynamat or other isolating / absorbing material would bring out the richness of the bass better. An external amplifier might also add some benefit.

I could not tell much of a difference in the midrange response; but again, I really look for bass and high end response to judge the quality of a set of speakers.

Overall, I'm glad I bought these. For ~$200 it is a great way to make a factory stereo into something that you'll want to listen to every day on your daily commute.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I just finished installing the 6012si's about an hour ago in my 02 Honda Accord. Install time took about 1½ hours with not many obstacles. Although these speakers were listed as a "fit" for my car, a few minor modifications had to be made for a solid install. The speakers do have a shallow mounting depth, but I did have to cut out the rear of the Honda speaker baffle so the magnet would protrude through the back.

I have only tested for about 30 minutes with two genre's of music, but I am very impressed so far. Sound reproduction is very accurate. These speakers are very efficient on a factory receiver. I am not sure of the wattage output on my receiver, but the new Infinity's drown out any competition from other speakers in the car. There is simply no comparison between stock and after market speakers. I guarantee you will be pleased with this model. The 6012si's will definitely add sparkle to your music!

A big improvement over the 14-year-old factory door speakers in my '91 Mazda Miata! I had hoped for a little more bass, but these are still a very worthwhile choice, and I do recommend them highly. The highs and mid-ranges are excellent.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed these in the front doors of my Element (yes, they fit just fine!) to go with the Polk 650's in the rear doors (yes, they fit great!). The Infinity's sound pretty good but they have a peaky upper midrange giving them a bit of a nasal sound as well as some harshness in the 3-5 Khz region. The Polks, in comparison, have a big hole in the midrange. I'm glad these are in the back! For a while I removed the factory tweeters and ran with just the Infinitys in the door but that really showed the mid peaks so I put the factory tweets back in and turned down the treble on the factory head unit. Better. An after market HU may sound better, especially if it has parametric EQ allowing me to find and notch the bad frequencies. Without that, the sound is pretty good but not great.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers are an excellent buy for $100. The install was easy-took under 15 minutes. These speakers have to be broken in, so when you first install them dont judge the sound immeadiately. After a few weeks they really warm up nicely. Very good sound quality for 2-way speakers and the shallow mount makes the install that much easier. Produces alot more bass than i expected, plus piercing highs, and i don't even have them hooked up to an external amp. In currently running them off of my Alpine CDA-9847 head unit, 18 watts RMS i think, and they sound great. Would buy them again and reccomend them to anyone looking for a good sound upgrade in their car.

SUV Audio Nirvana !

Written By John, Detroit, Michigan on Thursday, August 04, 2005

Like many of you reading these reviews, I ordered these full range Infinity Reference speakers based on user reviews and the Infinity reputation for quality sound reproduction. As for the actual "review", I must say I was *not* disappointed. Simply stated, the sound quality is phenomenal. Pure highs, sweet mids, and good bass response = quality jams from every genre of music I put through them. When combined with all my other components (see below) the effect is concert quality sound in my 2004 Jeep Liberty SUV. If you like clarity in your music, get these speakers and power them with an amp for optimum results.

Installation was a bit cumbersome for my vehicle, even with the supplied ABS plastic adapter rings from Crutchfield. It seems the hardware was not a "plug and play" fit, which caused some grief before I called Technical Assistance. Turned out the screws to mount the speaker to the adapter ring were too long and protruded out the rear, preventing the assembly from seating properly in the speaker opening. If you own a Jeep Liberty and are thinking of getting these, just be aware of this. I found a fairly easy work around to solve the issue - simply mount the plastic adapter ring FIRST, then set the speaker in place WITHOUT securing it to the adapter ring. Once youve connected the speaker wiring, drill four pilot holes right through the sheet metal and THEN use the (4) supplied mounting screws to attach the speaker to the adapter ring. Crutchfield - update the "Master Sheets" !

Originally, I had replaced the blown 6.5's in my doors with Kenwood speakers. After being thoroughly unimpressed with these, I tore them out and replaced them with the 6012si. Talk about a night-and-day difference!

These speakers deliver very clear sound at any volume with or without an amplifier. They are extremely efficient and very affordable in comparison to other speakers I listened to. Personally, I think these sound better than the Infinity Kappas.

I can't wait to receive my 9612i's for the rear deck and hook them up to my new Alpine amp.

In short, these are a must-have for any car audiophille out there. You won't be disappointed!

These speakers are an excellent value. The clarity in the vocals and highs are so much more defined over my stock speakers. I purchased a set of these and a set of the regular ones for my ION and of everything I've replaced so far on the audio system, these were the best upgrade so far. Being a smaller size speaker the low end bass response is lacking, but these aren't intended for that. If you're looking for a low priced speaker that sounds great, you've found them. I play a lot of alternative (emo, punk), R&B, rap, & house. They all sound loud and clear on these. One tip however is to make sure you have enough power. The stock amp in my Alpine deck was enough to push them to a decent volume, but if you're looking for more get an outboard amp with at least 50W a channel--it will do wonders.

These are installed in the rear deck and sound great. I wasn't sure why i needed the shallow ones in the rear as i had enough depth for them. these don't have the angled tweeter of the 6012i, allowing them to fit under the rear deck covering easier.

After a few weeks of listening, however, it is clearer and clearer that with every CD I play I am hearing instruments, nuances to the music that I never knew had been on the disc. Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I don't consider myself an audiophile, but I can say I'm very happy with these speakers. I replaced the front two speakers in my 01 Outback, and the sound is crisp, cear and loud. I find that the factory tweeter package accentuates them well.

However, they do NOT produce a lot of bass. I'm glad I kept my factory rears, because had I replaced all four I would DEFINITELY be looking at powered subwoofers right now.

Something else to consider- I've heard that the normal-profile 6012's produce slightly better sound than the 6012si's, so if you feel comfortable cutting sheetmetal and making other custom mods to your car, you might consider those instead.
