Legendary sound

Infinity's Kappa Series 62.11i 6-1/2" speakers continue in the tradition of this legendary line of speakers, offering rugged construction and impressive sound quality. Once installed, these speakers will bring out every nuance and detail in your favorite music tracks, making time spent in your car seem more like a concert than a commute.

Large soft dome tweeters

If you're looking for natural-sounding high frequencies, Infinity uses edge-driven 1" soft dome tweeters in this system. The "edge-driven" design creates a larger tweeter that handles more power and delivers smooth response way down into midrange frequencies not covered by smaller "W"-shaped domes. You'll hear a more clearly defined soundstage where you can picture the placement of every instrument.

Infinity's UniPivot design allows you to aim each tweeter toward your ears, so you enjoy excellent stereo imaging even if the speakers are mounted way down low in your doors. Each tweeter also features a level control switch so you can adjust the brightness to your taste.

Glass fiber woofer with Plus One+ technology

If you like bass, the Kappa glass fiber woofer holds its shape when the power's cranked up, so you still get punchy and defined bass. Glass fiber weighs less than traditional materials, so you don't need a ton of power to drive this woofer. Infinity's Plus One+ woofer technology extends the cone right up to the edge of the basket, giving you more surface area than with most comparable speakers. A bigger cone means more bass to complement the superior high-frequency response.

Great for any system

These 2-ohm speakers are sensitive enough that you can power them with an aftermarket stereo, but you'll get your best results feeding them plenty of power from an outboard amp — up to 75 watts RMS. Grilles are included.

Product Research

Features

Plus One Woofer Cones: The Plus One speaker cones offer more surface area than other speakers that fit in the same size opening. This is accomplished by using a new basket design and hi-roll surround. The result is greater bass output and a significant increase in efficiency.

Formed Glass Fiber Woofer Cones: The formed glass fiber cone material is very light and extremely stiff, minimizing flex. This results in very low distortion and improved clarity.

iCGM frames: The Kappa series speaker baskets are made of composite Injected Carbon Glass Matrix (iCGM). iCGM is lighter and stronger than stamped steel; it retains its shape, even when mounted on uneven surfaces (common in car mounting locations), plus offers exceptional damping of any resonances.

Woofer Size: These speakers are marketed as 6-1/2"; they will fit in standard 6-1/2" speaker openings, but do not use the standard 6-1/2" speaker bolt pattern. In order to install them in standard 6-1/2" speaker openings you must drill new screw holes. If new holes are drilled in the mounting surface of the car, no bracket is needed. If drilling in the car is not an option, the included brackets can be used, which have standard 6-1/2" mounting holes and the Ford non-symmetric four hole pattern. When using the brackets the depth becomes 1.878" and the mounting height becomes 1.066".

Edge Driven Dome Tweeters: Each speaker has a 1" Edge-driven textile soft dome tweeter. An edge-driven tweeter has better dispersion characteristics and allows for a lower crossover frequency than typical tweeters of the same size, which improves imaging. The result is improved vocals and musical clarity. The tweeter also has an adjustable output level, +0 dB (flat) and +3 dB.

UniPivot Tweeter: The tweeter is angled and can be rotated about 315° after installation. This allows you to direct the tweeters toward the listeners, very useful for speakers mounted low in a door.

High-Output Design: The high output 2-ohm voice coil design compensates for the high in-line resistance of small gauge factory wiring and extracts every watt from factory receivers, increasing overall system output and efficiency (relative to 4 ohm speakers). The speaker's 2.0-ohm impedance combined with the impedance of your speaker wire provides a true 4-ohm load to your connected headunit or amplifier. The speakers also benefit from increased power when you upgrade the wire and add aftermarket amplifiers, designed to power a 2-ohm load.

Terminals: The input terminals are gold-plated set screws that will accept up to 12 gauge bare wire.

Power Handling: Although Infinity lists the RMS power handling as 75 watts, they also list the recommended power range as 5-125 watts RMS. We've opted to list the more conservative 75 watt RMS figure on the specifications page.

Q
Would you consider the tweeter "overpowering" ? I am on my second pair of JBL's and in my opinion the tweeters are a little "too bright", even with the deflectors facing down.. I am considering these speakers due to the price drop, but I still do not want to spend more money and get the same result.

I don't consider it overpowering no. If I have my stereo volume set high enough I can hear it from a few steps away, which is attributed to the power of the Kappas. I never really dove deep enough into the tweeter aspect to give you a better answer but what I do know is that which is already addressed. It's probably a tough call to make between JBL and Kappa since both are outstanding brands but I do not think you'll have an issue with "overpowering". Hope this helps.

Q
Do you have any pictures of the Infinity Kappa 52.11i installed in a 2012-2015 US spec Smart 451? Do you reuse the factory grilles or do you need to use the Infinity grilles only?

A
We don't have any pictures of the speakers installed into your vehicle. But you will be happy to know that when we list a speaker as fitting a stock location in a vehicle, it will fit behind the stock grill and you will not need to use any other grill when installing it. I like these speakers, but Crutchfield says that they will not fit the front door. CAR: 2014 Nissan Altima, six speaker, non Bose. It says that there is a mounting height problem. Looking through the front door speaker grill, it looks like there is plenty of room to mount these speakers. Can you clarify this? Thanks.

Q
How would I wire these speakers? The wire harness I recieved from purchasing these speakers are for terminal post. These speakers have screw post connectors.
joel  Oct 08, 2015
4 answers
A
Cur the terminals off, if not needed, and strip the wire ends. Solder or tin them if you wish and insert them. Make sure to work the screw connection. Meaning, tighten it up tightly, then slightly loosen it and tighten it back. It will usually tighten a bit further each time until it flattens out the braid, if you elect not to solder.

I installed these on a 2011 Chevy Silverado. If I remember right I received a connector that mated with my factory harness to the speaker. Hope this helps.
shawn  Oct 08, 2015
A
It sounds like you need to cut the wire ends the strip them. Insert them into the screw connectors and tighten.
jeff  Oct 08, 2015
A
You would have to determine which is the positive, which is the negative and cut the wire ends at terminal. Pos/red, Neg/Blk

2008 GMC Sierra Crew Cab Duramax/Allison Replacing stock door speakers front and rear with 2 pairs of Kappa 62.11i. Adding Alpine MRX F-35 4 channel amp. Will retain GM factory head set for now. Any thoughts on this configuration? What can I look forward to? Any suggestions for angle direction and adjustment setting on the 4 tweeters before replacing door panel?

I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: Awesome set-up! The Infinity Kappa's are some of the most efficient speakers we carry, but they really come to life when you add an amplifier to the system. Expect clean, clear, detailed sound. Also expect this set-up to be capable of playing loud! There are so many variables with tweeters and placement from vehicle to vehicle, but you usually can't go wrong by aiming the tweeters towards your ears. Be sure to try both adjustment settings on the tweeters (0 dB or +3 dB) before reinstalling your door panels - this setting is entirely dependent on personal preference and the acoustics of your truck. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.

Can I use these with a 4 ohm amp without problems?

Sure can, have them connect to my Sony deck I think its 20 watts but it sound sgreat
frank  Jan 02, 2014

If the amp is bridgable in stereo ,which would mean it can do a 2 ohm stereo load then the answer would be yes , if your amp will not do 2 ohm stereo then the answer is no. Most amplifiers today are rated for 4 ohm and bridgeable for 2 ohm stereo.
donald  Jan 02, 2014
A
HI Randall, I know they are rated at 2 ohm, and you would have to wire them in series. In effect series wiring add the impedance of the two speakers wired. I think it depends on your amp's capabilities, but I would ask the crutchfield guys they know all about this stuff. hope that helps- they as always per Kappas sound great Mike
michael  Jan 02, 2014

Hey sorry, they r 2ohm speakers I just looked.only use these speakers if ur amp is 2ohm stable(u should be able to find out easily if it is by looking at it specifications) but most modern amps are. If ur powering with a head unit they should still prob work but make sure if ur playing me long n loud that u make sure the head unit isn't getting too hot as these 2ohm speakers will put more strain on the head units amp
brad  Jan 02, 2014
A
Yeah, I forget exactly. Haven't used these speakers since 2 cars ago, lol. But I think they were 3ohm speakers so yes u could run ur 4ohm ampe without problems, as they are 3ohm they will "pull" a bit more power out of ur 4ohm amp without straining the amp with a 2ohm(or less load)..these speakers were designed to pull alil more power outa of ur 4ohm amp without straining it.so yes use and enjoy, u shouldn't have to turn up the volume as much as u would with the a comparable pair of 4ohm kappas due to the slightly lower impedance. Hope that helped...
brad  Jan 02, 2014
A
I used a 5 channel infinity kappa amp. If you use factor wiring from behind radio to doors. It would make the speakers operate at a 4 ohm load. So I don't see why it wouldn't work
