Infinity built the latest Kappa speakers with improved technology and high-end materials to provide you with outstanding sound reproduction. The Kappa 62.9i 6-3/4" speakers feature light, but stiff woven glass-fiber woofer cones that won't flex or distort. The Plus One design offers a larger surface area for improved low-frequency output and efficiency, while longer voice coils produce tighter, snappier bass. Large magnets keep the woofers running cooler by placing more steel close to the voice coils to act as a heat sink.

Infinity uses the same Metal Matrix Diaphragm tweeter found in many of their popular home speakers, so you'll hear the music the way it was recorded with minimal coloration or distortion. The dome tweeters pivot, allowing you to adjust them for better stereo imaging.

The computer-optimized outboard crossover networks employ audiophile-grade components to separate highs and lows, so that the woofer and tweeter work together perfectly. Pre-wired crossovers eliminate a time-consuming step in your installation, and terminals at the end of the crossover wires screw directly to the speakers, leaving no chance for incorrect wiring.

Note: Infinity describes this model as a 6-1/2" speaker. Most manufacturers designate this same frame size as a 6-3/4" speaker. For simplicity's sake we list it as a 6-3/4" speaker.

Installation Note: These Infinity speakers do not include screws or speed clips. You may be able to use the factory screws to install them, but it's always a good idea to have an assortment of self-tapping screws (5/8" to 1") and speed-clips on hand. These speakers don't use a standard 6-1/2" speaker bolt pattern — you'll have to drill new screw holes in either your vehicle or the included bracket in order to mount them in 6-1/2" speaker openings.

Important Note: You should use an outboard amplifier to power these speakers.

Product Highlights:

  • 2-way 6-3/4" speakers (pair)
  • fit 6-1/2" openings (with modification)
  • True Four Ohm Impedance technology: speaker's 2-ohm impedance combines with speaker wire impedance for a 4-ohm load
  • Plus One® woven-glass-fiber woofer cone with hi-roll rubber surround
  • 1" rotating UniPivot, edge-driven M.M.D.® dome tweeter
  • computer-optimized outboard crossover with tweeter level control
  • direct-connect crossover dongle
  • power range: 2-75 watts RMS (225 watts peak power)
  • frequency response: 45-25,000 Hz
  • sensitivity: 95 dB
  • top-mount depth: 2-3/8"
  • warranty: 3 years
  • Our 60-day money-back guarantee

Why replace your factory speakers?

The speakers that originally came in your car were made from inexpensive materials, designed to create acceptable sound at the lowest possible cost to the manufacturer. If you love music, you deserve better. Name-brand aftermarket speakers deliver fuller, richer sound with considerably more detail and nuance, and they're capable of playing louder and cleaner than factory speakers. Connect new speakers to your factory radio and you'll get the best possible sound from your dealer-equipped system. Pair them up with a new car stereo for a level of enjoyment that can rival a high-fidelity home audio experience.

Excellent speaker

Written By Southernreign, Charlotte, NC on Thursday, November 22, 2012

These are great speakers, they are VERY power hungry. An AMP is a must! I used with and without AMP and when I feed with a 75w/channel amp, WOW! They came ALIVE. And bass... OH YES, I can feel the AIR move in the car from the bass! Nice and clean sound with a clean source! These are bright, as many reviewers state, but I like my speakers that way!

Pros: Great sound@

Cons: They are POWER hungry!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great mid and high frequency response. Remember these are 6.5 speakers and even with adequate power will likely not produce a significant base response. Great speaker overall. I also really like the 3db frequency option setting on the tweeter.

Cons: None

nice sounding speakers, exactly what I expected from infinity.

Pros: mounting adapter included, as well as plenty of hardware.

Cons: make sure you have room to mount the crossover in your door. It would be nice if a piece of double sided tape was included to mount the crossover.

Great Car Speakers from Infinity

Written By RULopez, Gurabo, PR on Tuesday, January 31, 2012

I buy a 2011 Toyota RAV4 and want to change the audio system. I buy an amplifier of 5 channels, a 12" Sony XS-GTX120LW Subwoofer (with a sealed box), an 8 band equalizer and a two sets of this Infinity Kappas 62.9i Series. I let the factory radio and the tweeters. I play a long to get the sound as I like, and the Kappas help me to get this. Now I feel like be in front of my home theater system. I like all kind of music, I consider me an audiofile, then the Kappas sound terrific the lows and hights are very good. This speakers have a pre-installed crossover make them get the separation of sound needed for the woofer and the tweeter. Then the subwoofer make the rest of lows. I also listen how the system sound out of the car and with the doors closed. It is impressive that the outsiders people listen good sound. They will said that my RAV4 have a great audio sound system. I hightly recommend this speakers to everyone, it makes good job and are good constructed.

Pros: Good construction, and materials. Very good sound, the tweeter can move to point it to the listener. Extra large magnet.

Cons: Until now I do not find anything wrong.

1 out of 4 defective

Written By Bito, HI on Friday, October 07, 2011

Sound quality and bass response is 5 out of 5!

After reading other reviews, I found that I was not the only one. As much as 1 out of 4 have gotten a defective speaker. I bought two pairs, so I never really noticed the bad one until my wife said something. I narrowed it down to one speaker that was distorting at certain frequencies and struggled on the woofer end. Troubleshot for an hour, removed the tweeter and found that the woofer was distorting within the motor. Went online and read that I wasn't the only one.

Warranty... They have a 3 year warranty that's honored from the retailer, which was the response I got from Infinity. I've had them for 2, I don't know where my receipt is.

Recommendation.... ...I'm gonna pick up the same pair to replace the ones I had. Yes I would recommend, but keep your receipt! The bass and clarity is extremely impressive. With only 3 of my speakers currently running, it's still mistaken that there's a subwoofer in my SUV!!

Note on above comment...

These speakers rock. They need plenty power to be played to their full potential. With regards to the above post, I think the the owner of that Civic will find the HU is 160w max, and not rms. 160w max divided by 4 = 40watts per channel, but in reality the stock HU will be much closer to only 20w rms (probably less). These Kappa's are 75w rms, and therefore cannot be driven properly by the stock HU. I think this is why the sound is not great from the rear speakers in this case - the HU amp is probably clipping - and might indeed be causing damage to the new Kappa's. I might be wrong, and perhaps he has already upgraded the other components, but if they are stock then what I've described is probably happening.

Better Options for Durango with Infinity System

Written By Tim, Coeur d'Alene, ID on Monday, July 11, 2011

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have a 99 Durango with the factory 6-speaker Infinity sound system. After the woofer surrounds broke, it was time to replace them. My goal was to at least duplicate the sound quality of the original speakers using the rest of the factory system. I'm not the sort that enjoys jaw-rattling bass from a subwoofer, just strong low end from regular door speakers playing higher volume classic rock. I was fairly pleased with the factory setup and wasn't looking to spend a ton of $$.

First I tried the Polk Audio Dxi650's which I had used successfully in another car. Initially I was disappointed (not as much bass and a lot of clipping of the sound level) but I only installed one or two of them to compare to the factory ones. As noted elsewhere, the factory speakers were of the 2-ohm variety. Since the Polk's were 4-ohm, I decided to try the Infinity Kappa 62.9i's with 2-ohm impedance assuming that was the problem. Surprisingly, they were worse - very little bass and less overall output than the factory ones or the Polk's.

You can read my review of the Polk's on their page, but the bottom line is I eventually got them to sound good and I think better than these Kappa's. Much stronger bass and output (odd considering impedance). Plus if I ever replace the head unit, I'll probably be better off with the Polk's.

So if you have a rig like mine and are looking for a similar sound and setup, I'd recommend the Polk Audio DXi650's over the Infinity Kappa 62.9i's.

Nice, but...

Written By Ian, NB, Canada on Tuesday, July 05, 2011

I installed these in the rear deck of a 2009 Honda Civic sedan.

First, these speakers have a nice sound. They fill in some frequencies that the stock speakers just didn't have. The stock rear speakers are 5-1/4" paper cones that have a tiny magnet and put out muffled, low sound. These are a good replacement for those.

However, they won't put out as much sound as the stock front speakers. I'm running the stock 160W head unit, and maybe it's matched to the stock speakers or something. Moving the fader from front to rear shows how weak these are compared to the stock fronts. I'm afraid that if I replace the fronts I'll lose any punch I might have. I expected more from a low impedance, high efficiency speaker. Balanced out, these bring clarity to a stock system that just didn't have a great sound, but I need the fronts to have any volume.

As for fit, I was prepared to bend/cut sheet metal to get them in. This was NOT required. The cut-out is not round, and you can orient one of the speaker struts into the wide area and drop it right in. The mounting ring keeps the speaker high enough that the widest part doesn't have to drop into the hole, allowing it to fit slightly off-center. No problem at all, except lining up the holes that need to be drilled. Be careful not to damage the nub where the wires connect. I used velcro to attach the crossover in the trunk.

Great Speakers... but

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The speakers truly have an incredible sound and I am really happy with them, however the workmanship on the speakers wasn't so good. Manufacturers soldering of wires on the speakers broke on both speakers. I had noticed that one of the speakers was cutting in and out so I shifted the balance to the other side just to keep from tearing the door apart again. When the second speaker failed I took the doors apart. One wire on one speaker had broken at the solder connection, it was an easy fix but I shouldn't have had to do it. The other speaker had lost all three solder connection points. Had I played the speakers too loud? Maybe the door was slammed too often? I have only had these speakers about six months.

Great Speakers

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers are fantastic. I have them hooked up to a Pioneer avh-p3300bt and they are amazing. Sound is crystal clear and the bass output was pleasantly surprising because I didn't install an amp or sub. They are in Crutchfield's Signature Series for a reason, and I bought one and got the other 1/2 off. Can't beat it.

Would highly recommend to anyone for any need. Also, the tweater swivels so you can turn it to point in the right direction based on your vehicle. Great feature!!

love em

I bought these speakers for my rear doors after installing Infinity Kappa components in the front. I was so happy with the front speakers that I figured I would leave the factory rear speakers intact, but noooo!!!! Now that I installed the rears, it's even better

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

If you can get these speakers with the "1/2 off the second pair deal" then by all
means GET THEM! They really sound great! They sounded good even with just
the stock radio before I installed the new stereo. I put a pair in the front and a pair
in the back. The bass is very good and the highs are clear. They will handle more
power than the new stereo I just installed so I can imagine how good they will be
when I get the money to add an amp!

These will fit in the FJ Cruiser

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers sound awesome. They do fit in the FJ Cruiser even though the car match thing said no. I have a Kenwood head unit with a Boston Acoustics 50 watt RMS per channel amp. Sometimes I find myself playing the music really loud and don't realize it because these infinity's are so clear. I would definitely recommend these. I listen to Country, old rock and 80's music. Hope this helps you make up your mind. Good Luck

2011 Kia Sorento

Written By Ken, PA on Friday, February 11, 2011

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers are great, and a HUGE improvement over the factory Kia speakers. I appreciate all types of music, so I'm fairly critical of weak highs or lows; I found neither with these. I replaced the rear pair with these (62.9i), and replaced the front pair with a set of Infinity Kappa 52.9i speakers. To be honest, I'm fairly certain I could have fit the 62.9i speakers in the front too, but I followed the fit guide here to be safe. Wiring harnesses aren't yet available for the 2011 Kia Sorento, so I had to cut and crimp every wire. However, I didn't drill out the rivets of the speaker mounts as directed. Following the advice of someone on, I simply cut the old speaker and mounting arms out of the existing mount, and screwed the new speakers in place - with amazing results. I'm still using the factory head unit, to preserve the look, steering wheel controls, and Sirius setup. Worrying that it might be underpowered, I bought an amp too, but I won't be installing it.

I bought these for my 2011 Kia Soul and replaced all 4 door speakers. The factory stuff is basically just made out of foam...literally. The bass is wayyy deeper and the highs are much crisper.

Personally, I need more bass so I'll be purchasing a JL sub too but these speakers are a GREAT step in the right direction.

I replaced my stock Mercedes Speakers (non-Bose) with these Infinity Kappa and OMG! I still cannot get over how fantastic they sound! My Crutchfield Advisor told me I would notice, and he was not kidding. The top-end clarity and bass are clean and tight. Highly, highly recommended.

I have the components up front (what a pain, read my review there), and these in my back doors. They sound pretty much identical. I should have bought these for my fronts. Tweets can turn some to help aim.
Only issue with these is the dumb dongle hanging off the speaker. Hoping it doesn't rattle around in my door. Aluminum set screws like to strip.

Your ears will appreciate them

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have finally replaced rear pair from stock speakers of '05 Acura RSX with Infinity Kappa 62.9i. Crutchfield deemed that they would not fit (not even as modified fit), but the installer was able to fit them just fine using adapter bracket. No amp, just four 62.9i speakers on my car now. I was unsure was about needing amp to bring out the true potential of these speakers, but once I started playing Miles Davis' Kind of Blue, I was completely blown away. It was so crisp and powerful, I thought the instrument was playing from where my speakers were. This may not be a good idea if you are too distracted by music (and forgets to pay attention to the road), otherwise, this is truly amazing product. Great speakers are not about pumping out the most bass, but to reproduce each and every note as faithfully as possible. I think this speaker nailed it.

I too completely recommend these speakers; the sound is so clean. I replaced the factory Bose speakers in my Maxima, backed up by one 10" subwoofer, and I can't help but want to go for a drive as often as possible now! I have a 60-watt/channel amp pushing these Infinity's- they absorb every bit of it, and will play as loud as you wish. I'm an instant Infinity fan.

I love these speakers!

These speakers sound fantastic. I did buy an Infinity Reference 475a amplifier to compliment these speakers and it really sounds magnificent. This is my second vehicle that I've installed infinity speakers and certainly will not be my last, I'm very pleased. These speakers offer a very full and balanced sound at a reasonable price.

I bought these speakers to replace my factory infinity speakers in a 1997 Dodge Dakota. I have to say that these are perfect replacements especially for my system. They fit perfect and sound awesome with the factory infinity gold amplifier and factory deck. Next project will be to replace the rear speakers with infinity kappas, and then the deck. Great product definitely buy.

Sounds good just powered by the deck, but if you put an amp on them they will sing loud and clear without distortion

Hello, every Crutchfield reader. I have purchase thIs infinity Kappa for a Toyota Corolla 2009. 6.5 on the front door panel-6X9 at the rear.(they do need an extra mounting plate -a larger hole there). This speakers are the best on the market this days. I have an amp ready for them but amazingly this bad boys are loud ,this factory stereo on this car have plenty of power to run this baby's. on the other hand at the auxiliary input I'm using a Sony MP3 -- NWZ-A728 it has a equalizer that almost double the sound

Awesome with an amp

Written By Brian, Long Valley, NJ on Monday, June 23, 2008

short bottom line conclusion:

I first installed these speakers without an amp. I bought bass blockers as a remedy for the "popping" sound I heard from heavy bass. This solved that issue but then since these speakers are 2 ohm speakers, they drew too much power from the head unit and it started to heat up and clip.

Without an amp, these speakers sound subpar.

I decided to get the Profile AP400 amp.
best decision for these speakers. they sounded awesome
-allowed them to play louder, clearer, produced better bass etc.
- really allowed these speakers to play to their full potential

Product Research

Plus One Woofer Cones: The Plus One speakers use cones more surface area than other speakers of the same size. This is accomplished by using a new basket design and hi-roll surround. The Plus One design offers greater bass output and a significant increase in efficiency.

Woven Glass Fiber Woofer Cones: This woven-glass-fiber material is very light and extremely stiff, minimizing cone flex. This results in very low distortion and improved clarity.

Woofer Size: These speakers are marketed as 6-1/2"; they will fit in standard 6-1/2" speaker openings, but do not use the standard 6-1/2" speaker bolt pattern. In order to install them in standard 6-1/2" speaker openings you must drill new screw holes. If new holes are drilled in the mounting surface of the car, no bracket need be used. If drilling in the car is not an option, the flange on the included metal bracket is wide enough to accommodate new holes being drilled; either in a standard 6-1/2" three hole pattern or a Ford non-symmetric four hole pattern. When using the bracket the depth becomes 2.136" and the mounting height becomes 1.024".

Edge Driven MMD Dome Tweeters: Each speaker has an Edge-driven MMD (Metal Matrix Diaphragm) dome tweeter. The benefit is increased power handling and reduced distortion at high output. This technology also allows for better integration with the mid/woofer. The tweeter has an adjustable output level, +0 dB (flat) and -3 dB.

UniPivot Tweeter: The tweeter is angled and can be rotated about 270° after installation. This allows you to direct the tweeters toward the listeners, very useful for speakers mounted low in a door.

High-Output Design: The high output 2-ohm voice coil design compensates for the high in-line resistance of small gauge factory wiring and extracts every watt from factory receivers, increasing overall system output and efficiency (relative to 4 ohm speakers). The speaker's 2.0-ohm impedance combined with the impedance of your speaker wire provides a true 4-ohm load to your connected headunit or amplifier. The speakers also benefit from increased power when you upgrade the wire and add aftermarket amplifiers, designed to power a 2-ohm load.

Crossovers: Kappa speakers include computer-optimized, voice-matched crossovers, using audiophile quality air core inductors and polypropylene capacitors. The crossover slope is 12 dB/octave.

Crossover Connections: Each crossover is connected to the speaker by a 6" wire. The input terminals are set screws that will accept up to 10 gauge bare wire.

Crossover Dimensions:

  • Length: 3-1/16"
  • Width: 1-1/4"
  • Height: 1-3/16"

Intermount III: Infinity's Intermount III mounting system allows the 62.9i speakers to fit a variety of 6-1/2" (with modification) and 6-3/4" applications. Two adapter rings are included for each speaker.
