Infinity built the latest Kappa speakers with improved technology and high-end materials to provide you with outstanding sound reproduction. The Kappa 652.9i 6-3/4" speakers feature light, but stiff woven glass-fiber woofer cones that won't flex or distort. The Plus One design offers a larger surface area for improved low-frequency output and efficiency, while longer voice coils produce tighter, snappier bass. Large magnets keep the woofers running cooler by placing more steel close to the voice coils to act as a heat sink.

Infinity uses the same Metal Matrix Diaphragm tweeter found in many of their popular home speakers, so you'll hear the music the way it was recorded with minimal coloration or distortion. The dome tweeters pivot, allowing you to adjust them for better stereo imaging.

The computer-optimized outboard crossover networks employ audiophile-grade components to separate highs and lows, so that the woofer and tweeter work together perfectly. Pre-wired crossovers eliminate a time-consuming step in your installation, and terminals at the end of the crossover wires screw directly to the speakers, leaving no chance for incorrect wiring.

Note: Infinity describes this model as a 6-1/2" speaker. Most manufacturers designate this same frame size as a 6-3/4" speaker. For simplicity's sake we list it as a 6-3/4" speaker.

Important Note: You should use an outboard amplifier to power these speakers.

Installation Note: These Infinity speakers do not include screws or speed clips. You may be able to use the factory screws to install them, but it's always a good idea to have an assortment of self-tapping screws (5/8" to 1") and speed-clips on hand.

Product Highlights:

  • 2-way 6-3/4" speakers (pair)
  • True Four Ohm Impedance technology: speaker's 2-ohm impedance combines with speaker wire impedance for a 4-ohm load
  • Plus One® woven-glass-fiber woofer cone with hi-roll rubber surround
  • 1" rotating UniPivot, edge-driven M.M.D.® dome tweeter
  • computer-optimized outboard crossover with tweeter level control
  • direct-connect crossover dongle
  • power range: 2-75 watts RMS (225 watts peak power)
  • frequency response: 45-25,000 Hz
  • sensitivity: 95 dB
  • top-mount depth: 2-3/8"
  • warranty: 3 years
  • Our 60-day money-back guarantee

Why replace your factory speakers?

The speakers that originally came in your car were made from inexpensive materials, designed to create acceptable sound at the lowest possible cost to the manufacturer. If you love music, you deserve better. Name-brand aftermarket speakers deliver fuller, richer sound with considerably more detail and nuance, and they're capable of playing louder and cleaner than factory speakers. Connect new speakers to your factory radio and you'll get the best possible sound from your dealer-equipped system. Pair them up with a new car stereo for a level of enjoyment that can rival a high-fidelity home audio experience.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The speakers were great and sound good! Much better than the junky factory speakers that were in there. Infinity is a good name and thus far living up to its promise.

Pros: Quality Product. Fit exactly as specified. Great sound!

Cons: The speaker grills that came with it can't bu utilized because of the way my truck door panel is. To bad as the grill covers are cool as well. Price is a little high, but I guess you pay for the quality.

Honestly desired POLK brand but could not find a fit w/o customizing. Perfect drop ins for my 03 Eclipse and great sound. The cherry on top is a 3 year warranty. So how can you see anything wrong with that? They'll stand behind they're product. Any other? Only a year baby and then good luck, you're on your own.

Pros: Warranty, sound and fit.

Cons: ????????????

Kappa 652.9i in 2002 Camaro

Written by: NickW from Villa RIca, GA on January 28, 2012

I had to replace the two front speakers in a 2002 Camaro 35th LE. Both went out at the same time, leading to crummy rattley bass notes! I pulled the old speakers to find that separate amplifiers drive the woofer and tweeter in the original coaxial speaker. After a lot of research and chasing, I chose the Infinity Kappa 652.9i, based on the recommendation of the helpful Crutchfield advisors. They were a lot less expensive than the OEM from Chevrolet, and now that they are installed, they sound better! The 652.9i is a coaxial design with a crossover. I wanted a stock look, so I was able to cut off the crossover and reconnect the factory plugs to the wires from the woofer and tweeter, being careful to keep the polarity correct. Not a trivial installation, but a good looking job, and a great sound. Angling the tweeters helps get the treble to the front seat ears much better than the factory models.

Pros: Sound quality, cost, separate woofer and tweeter accessibility

Cons: Not a direct plug-in replacement for my car...but then again, there isn't one except OEM!

Man, these speakers sound great. I have 2 of these up front with 2 Rockford Fosgate P1694 6x9s in the back, all powered by a Pioneer GM-6400F 4-channel amp, and my car is booming. Only problem I have now is my sub being drowned out by the other speakers!

Pros: Great sound at all volumes, hits every note pretty clearly.

Cons: The crossover dongle can be tricky to deal with.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Was looking for a good factory replacement speaker for my 2009 Forester. Mid bass, sensitivity and great sound was top priority. Overall bass response is impressive enough for me to do without a subwoofer taking up my cargo area space. However, if trying to drive these things without an amp and skimping out on a little Dynamat, you'll probably be disappointed and won't get the most out of them. My only real complaint is trying to find a place for the attached crossover. You better remove your door panel before purchasing these and do some investigating first. Other than that, these things rock!

Pros: Sound quality with nice bass response.

Cons: Attached crossover proved to be a challenge to stash somewhere.

2006 Chevrolet Cobalt
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I replaced the stock speakers in a 2006 Chevy Cobalt with these and have been very impressed so far. Sound quality is excellent. At really high volume the sound can get a little muddy, but mine are still only deriving power from a 22 watt RMS Kenwood head unit as I've not bought an amp yet. The adjustable treble response is fantastic, highs are great and to be honest, I've been impressed with the bass response as well. Install was a breeze, and I had no car installation experience prior to putting these in. I would highly recommend these to a friend.

comparable to POLK DB'S

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installation was a breeze. Crutchfield was awesome as always. Installed in a 2000 GMC SIERRA EXT. CAB. Replaced POLK db'S which I thought one had gone bad. The polk's are fine it is the left channel of my amp. I think the polks may have sounded a little better, a little more bass maybe?? Kappa's deliver excellent highs. I will know much more when my amp is fixed, however I would not hesitate to purchase these again. I do recommend connnecting these to an amp and adding subwoofers or you will most likely be disappointed. It is not the speakers. To fully enjoy these you need an amp and subs...IMO

2005 Mazda 3
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

When I was younger, I spent a lot of time (and money) on car audio. I strived for sound quality, not bass levels. I remember reading good things about Infinity, so when I now wanted an affordable upgrade, I decided to try them. Unfortunately, I am disappointed. I find the bass weak, and if I don't have my crossover all the way up to a 24db slope, the speakers bottom out at only moderately high levels. Even worse, is that the midrange is dull, very muted. I hope I'm not being overly critical of these speakers, but they did not mean my expectations.

However, yes, they are an improvement to the factory speakers in my Mazda 3.

I got these speakers for the rear deck of my 99 nissan altima and they sound amazing. Mine are powered by an Alpine head unit that is boosted by the new Alpine power pack, and these speakers are SUPER clean. I needed a speaker that could keep up with my 2 12" kicker comp CVR's in the trunk, and they did the trick. I would definitely highly recommend these speakers to anyone looking to make their car sound great. Well done infinity.

2002 Chevrolet Camaro
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Based on a recommendation, I bought a pair of these Kappas to replace the blown factory Monsoon speakers located in the front doors of my 2002 Camaro convertible. Not only are these a virtual bolt-in replacement for the Monsoons, they have an impressively crisp, natural, and neutral sound that compliments any music or talk radio that you care to bring. The directionally-adjustable tweeters are a great feature! There are only two pieces of advice that I would give to any other 1993-2002 Camaro owners out there who might be considering these speakers: 1). BUY THEM!!! They work, and they sound great! 2). Do yourself a favor and put the extra time into transferring the wires and factory connector over from your dead Monsoons. Much easier to splice and solder the connections on a workbench than to try and do it on the car, and it's also the neatest way to bypass the Kappa's crossover, which you do not need for this Camaro Monsoon application -- snip 'em off, and take them to the electronics recycling center while you enjoy listening to your sweet new Kappas!

Audiophile Quality!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These are sweet sounding speakers. Smooth response throughout the frequency range from every music genre that I listen to. Male vocals sound vibrant and clear and brass/winds are an absolute pleasure. This is a loud speaker (efficient) with good power handling. I recommend it highly.

Plus One Woofer Cones: The Plus One speakers use cones more surface area than other speakers of the same size. This is accomplished by using a new basket design and hi-roll surround. The Plus One design offers greater bass output and a significant increase in efficiency.

Woven Glass Fiber Woofer Cones: This woven-glass-fiber material is very light and extremely stiff, minimizing cone flex. This results in very low distortion and improved clarity.

Edge Driven MMD Dome Tweeters: Each speaker has an Edge-driven MMD (Metal Matrix Diaphragm) dome tweeter. The benefit is increased power handling and reduced distortion at high output. This technology also allows for better integration with the mid/woofer. The tweeter has an adjustable output level, +0 dB (flat) and -3 dB.

UniPivot Tweeter: The tweeter is angled and can be rotated about 270° after installation. This allows you to direct the tweeters toward the listeners, very useful for speakers mounted low in a door.

High-Output Design: The high output 2-ohm voice coil design compensates for the high in-line resistance of small gauge factory wiring and extracts every watt from factory receivers, increasing overall system output and efficiency (relative to 4 ohm speakers). The speakers also benefit from increased power when you upgrade the wire and add aftermarket amplifiers, designed to power a 2-ohm load.

Crossovers: Kappa speakers include computer-optimized, voice-matched crossovers, using audiophile quality air core inductors and polypropylene capacitors. The crossover slope is 12 dB/octave.

Crossover Connections: Each crossover is connected to the speaker by a 6" wire. The input terminals are set screws that will accept up to 10 gauge bare wire.

Crossover Dimensions:

  • Length: 3-1/16"
  • Width: 1-1/4"
  • Height: 1-3/16"
