Large soft dome tweeters

If you're looking for natural-sounding high frequencies, Infinity uses edge-driven 1" soft dome tweeters in this system. The "edge-driven" design creates a larger tweeter that handles more power and delivers smooth response way down into midrange frequencies not covered by smaller "W"-shaped domes. You'll hear a more clearly defined soundstage where you can picture the placement of every instrument.

Infinity's UniPivot design allows you to aim each tweeter toward your ears, so you enjoy excellent stereo imaging even if the speakers are mounted way down low in your doors. Each tweeter also features a level control switch so you can boost the brightness to your taste.

Glass fiber woofer with Plus One+ technology

If you like bass, the Kappa glass fiber woofer holds its shape when the power's cranked up, so you still get punchy and defined bass. Glass fiber weighs less than traditional materials, so you don't need a ton of power to drive this woofer. Infinity's Plus One+ woofer technology extends the cone right up to the edge of the basket, giving you more surface area than with most comparable speakers. A bigger cone means more bass to complement the superior high-frequency response.

Great for any system

These 2-ohm speakers are sensitive enough that you can power them with an aftermarket stereo, but you'll get your best results feeding them plenty of power from an outboard amp — up to 100 watts RMS.

Grilles are not included; the factory grilles should be suitable for most applications.

Product Research

Features

Plus One Woofer Cones: The Plus One speaker cones offer more surface area than other speakers that fit in the same size opening. This is accomplished by using a new basket design and hi-roll surround. The result is greater bass output and a significant increase in efficiency.

Formed Glass Fiber Woofer Cones: This formed glass fiber material is very light and extremely stiff, minimizing cone flex. This results in very low distortion and improved clarity.

iCGM frames: The Kappa series speaker baskets are made of composite Injected Carbon Glass Matrix (iCGM). iCGM is lighter and stronger than stamped steel; it retains its shape, even when mounted on uneven surfaces (common in car mounting locations), plus offers exceptional damping of any resonances.

Edge Driven Dome Tweeters: Each speaker has a 1" Edge-driven textile soft dome tweeter. An edge-driven tweeter has better dispersion characteristics and allows for a lower crossover frequency than typical tweeters of the same size, which improves imaging. The result is improved vocals and musical clarity. The tweeter also has an adjustable output level, +0 dB (flat) and +3 dB.

UniPivot Tweeter: The tweeter is angled and can be rotated about 315° after installation. This allows you to direct the tweeters toward the listeners, very useful for speakers mounted low in a door.

High-Output Design: The high output 2-ohm voice coil design compensates for the high in-line resistance of small gauge factory wiring and extracts every watt from factory receivers, increasing overall system output and efficiency (relative to 4 ohm speakers). The speaker's 2.0-ohm impedance combined with the impedance of your speaker wire provides a true 4-ohm load to your connected headunit or amplifier. The speakers also benefit from increased power when you upgrade the wire and add aftermarket amplifiers, designed to power a 2-ohm load.

Size: These speakers fit many 5x7 and 6x8 applications.

Terminals: The input terminals are gold-plated set screws that will accept up to 12 gauge bare wire.

Power Handling: Although Infinity lists the RMS power handling as 100 watts, they also list the recommended power range as 5-150 watts RMS. We've opted to list the more conservative 100 watt RMS figure on the specifications page.

Q
Will I need an amp if I install just two of these speakers in my '94 ford ranger?

A
It all depends on how much of the potential you want to bring out of those speakers. Running off a factory headunit will give you definitely better sound qualty and frequency response than any factory speakers. Stepping up to just about any aftermarket headunit will increase the performance even more and volume capability depending on the wattage output of that headunit. To enjoy the ful potential of these speakers which is amazing with the right amp, I would at somepoint go to an external full range amp at least 50 watts/channel. Note these are 2ohm speakers, so get an amp that will drive that type of load, Finally, when installing these/any speakers into your door panels, take the time to add a sound deadening material to the metal surrounding the speaker. It is time well spent. Hope that helps.

I wouldn't try to run these without an amplifier but I have replaced these three times because a certain frequency from my Bluetooth cell phone blows the tweeter. They are very expensive and I went with another brand for half the price and sound just as good .

You don't need an amp ..But for the best optimal sound get a 2 channel amp
jamie  Mar 17, 2017

You only need an amp when you need more wattage. Which is always. I recommend an amp period.

Q
Will a speaker baffle help with the bass?
robert  Mar 25, 2016

A
Yes. I bought the baffles when I ordered the speakers. Much better than my previous setup.
dino  Mar 27, 2016

Not really depends on how much base you want.. But it does not handle a lot!
brenda l  Mar 26, 2016

I did add speaker baffles to mine and it did improve the bass response. My first step was changing out all the speakers to these which was a big Improvement but it was obvious that the standard radio in my truck didn't have enough power. I added an amplifier and sound depth was much better. Depending on your vehicle though, you may want to invest in a subwoofer. I have a F-150 Super Crew and the difference after adding the sub was huge. I'm an old guy who listens to classic rock and when I listen to these I hear instruments in these song that I have never heard before... and I have been listening to this music along time. They are that good. Hope that helps.

Q
I talked with a tech a couple of months ago about upgrading my entire system, gave him certain parameters such as clean, crisp sound, no distortion, can handle Bach to Van Halen. What he suggested as far as speakers go were Focal ISS 570 and Focal ISC 570. I realize that the ISS570,s come with separate tweeters, despite that difference, how does this model Infinity stack up to the Focals. Better Bass? Better High range? Thanks for your help!

I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/CompareTo.aspx?compareItems=01|091ISC570&compareItems=01|10868211CF&compareItems=01|091ISS570&g=51900 From the specs you can see that the Infinity's have a lower bass response, for a more defined and clean bass response. The infinity's also have a 2ohm impedance which will cause the amp to push a little harder to them. In most cases that will result in a louder/cleaner sound at just about any volume. These would be a very competitive set of speakers to the Focal's, and possibly even a better selection. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.

It has 2 Impedance. My ford escape has 4 Impedance stereo. But in this site, they say it is possible on my car. Is it safe for my receiver ? Somebody say that it is so critical choice. What is right ? I wanna know it.
