Infinity

Our take on the Infinity BassLink

You crave high-performance bass, but you don't want to use all of your available cargo space to get it. The master designers at Infinity put the same state-of-the-art technology that distinguishes Infinity speakers into the BassLink amplified subwoofer, so although it takes up just one cubic foot of trunk space, it'll produce resounding bass in any vehicle.

The BassLink brings together a 10" subwoofer, a 10" passive radiator (to increase efficiency and limit distortion), and an extremely efficient, specially designed 200-watt Class D amplifier that work as an integrated system. Special circuitry monitors voice coil position to maintain linearity at high power levels, so you hear loud, clear bass.

An array of controls will enable you to tweak your bass until it has just the thump you want. For optimum system blending, the low-pass filter is variable between 50-120 Hz (12 dB per octave), and a phase switch (0- or 180-degrees) is included. Adjust low bass impact with the bass EQ feature (-6 dB to +3 dB at 40 Hz). And you'll be able to put BassLink in a variety of in-vehicle locations, thanks to brackets that enable the rigid polymer box to be mounted vertically or horizontally. A wired remote with 16-foot cable allows you to adjust your BassLink's volume from your dash.

Read a hands-on review of the BassLink in the Crutchfield Learning Center.

Features
BassLink LC Remote Level Control
Inputs and Controls

Features

Design: The BassLink brings together a 10" subwoofer (treated paper cone, foam surround), a 10" passive radiator (to increase efficiency and limit distortion), and an extremely efficient, specially designed 200-watt Class D amplifier that work as an integrated system. Special circuitry monitors voice coil position to maintain linearity at high power levels, so you hear loud, clear bass.

Enclosure Type and Materials: The enclosure is made of an acoustically inert polymer which is rigid enough to resist flexing and dampens any resonance.

Servo-Control: The servo-control system continually monitors the performance of the speaker and ensures that the amplifier delivers exactly the right amount of power.

Class D Amplifier: This unit has a built-in 200 watt Class D amplifier which is highly efficient and designed specifically for use with the subwoofer and passive radiator combination.

Auto Turn-On Feature: When the speaker level inputs are used, the system will automatically turn on and off with the radio. Note: The auto turn-on feature does not operate when the preamp level inputs are used, unless the remote turn-on lead is connected.

Low-Pass Crossover: The low-pass crossover frequency can be varied from 50Hz to 120Hz for a seamless transition between the output of this unit and that of the other speakers in the vehicle. The crossover has a slope of 12dB per octave.

Bass Boost: The amplifier includes a continuously adjustable bass boost from -6 to +3dB centered at 40Hz.

Phase Switch: Allows you to select normal or reverse for best bass.

Mounting: You will be able to put BassLink in a variety of in-vehicle locations, thanks to its compact size and mounting feet that enable the rigid polymer box to be mounted vertically or horizontally.

  • Vertical Mounting Dimensions:
    • Width: 14.625"
    • Height: 13.375" (including feet)
    • Depth: 8.675" (10.076" including feet)
  • Horizontal Mounting Dimensions:
    • Width: 14.625"
    • Height: 9.5" (including feet)
    • Depth: 12.75" (15.1875" including feet)

BassLink LC Remote Level Control

Overview: The BassLink LC allows you to adjust the volume of BassLink powered subwoofer.

Installation: The BassLink LC may be mounted under the dash or may be dismantled and mounted inside the dash for a factory appearance.

  • Under-dash Mounting: Select a mounting location that allows easy, safe access to the control while driving. The BassLink LC has mounting "ears" to use as a template for drilling pilot holes. Attach screws through the "ears" to secure the BassLink LC to the mounting surface.
  • In-dash Mounting: Disassemble the BassLink LC by removing the Phillips-head screws on the front, rear, and top panels. Remove the bottom and side panels and disengage the RJ11 connector from the back panel. Choose a mounting location that allows easy, safe access to the control, and provides 1-3/4" clearance behind the mounting surface. Drill a 9/32" hole in the mounting surface. Feed the BassLink LC's potentiometer (with the knob removed) through the hold and use the nut provided to hold the control in place.
  • Connecting to BassLink: Route the cable behind the dash or other interior panels and under the carpet. Do not route the cable outside the vehicle. Connect the cable on both ends.

Inputs and Controls

Inputs:

  • Universal Interface: Front and rear, left and right Universal interface speaker-level inputs (for use with the supplied speaker-level input wiring harnesses)
  • Line Level RCA Inputs: Front and rear, left and right female preamp level inputs
  • +BATT (+12V): Gold-plated screw terminal, 0.350" wide
  • REM (remote turn-on): Gold-plated screw terminal, 0.350" wide
  • GND (ground): Gold-plated screw terminal, 0.350" wide
  • Fuse: There is an installed 20 Amp fuse
  • Remote Gain Control: Phone type jack for included remote gain control

Controls:

  • Gain Control: Rotary control that sets gain (variable from 250mV to 4V)
  • Crossover Control: Rotary control that sets the low-pass crossover point (variable from 50 to 120Hz)
  • Bass Boost Control: Rotary control that sets bass boost level (variable from -6 to +3dB, centered at 40Hz)
  • Phase Switch: Selects normal or reverse phase (0 or 180 degrees)
  • Power LED: The power LED glows red when the BassLink is on
  • Servo LED: The Servo LED glows green when the servo circuit has determined that the woofer has reached maximum excursion and power to the woofer has been modified to provide maximum performance. The LED should light momentarily during high-level bass transients. Note: Avoid adjustments that cause the LED to remain lit for an extended period of time

Infinity BassLink

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)
Crutchfield Customer Review

The reviewer purchased this item from us, verified by the email address on the order.

First, I was apprehensive, as I currently have 2 Infinity 10"s with a 650w Reference-series amp in a dual bandpass box. So I felt the 200w amp was not going to really be enough. I was wrong. VERY wrong.

Granted, with a 10" sub you won't get that "rattle every car on the block" bass, but the bass you DO get with this setup is so crisp and clean, not too high, not too low, but just right. Took awhile to get it dialed in for my specific taste and application, but when I did, man was I happy.

Overall, Its easier in my opinion than messing with a separate sub, box and amp. This powered sub is not much bigger than a regular 10" sub box and it fit perfectly behind the seat in my standard-cab F-150.

My only complaint was that the free wiring kit Crutchfield threw in, used baby spade terminals for too big of wire, so I had to make a quick trip to the hardware store to get the correct size of terminals.

If you are on a budget, and want good, quality bass (and you know what that sounds like) then this product is what you are looking for. Period.

Basslink in Prius

My unit is too new to discuss reliability issues, but bass output is excellent
and set up and installation was very easy. I don't use controls that came
with Basslink as head unit has sub adjustments. Bass can easily overwhelm
inside of car if turned up, so no problems with not enough bass. In fact, now
I wish I had more power going to my car speakers. Oh, and only about a
1mpg loss with use of Basslink in Prius.

Second Review of the Infinity Basslink

Written By Michael, AR on Tuesday, December 22, 2009

Crutchfield Customer Review

The reviewer purchased this item from us, verified by the email address on the order.

This is my second review of the Infinity Basslink and this ine is even better than my first one - which was excellent. I just finished installing the Basslink in a 2010 Ford Fusion with the Sony Stereo - which is basically a piece of junk..that's another story. The Basslink is phenomenal! Added plenty of high quality low end and completely changed the sound of the system. Made it sound much better overall with the fill in of the bottom end. I'm completely sold on Infinity car and home speakers. For the money they can't be beat. Word of caution - when hooking up the Basslink to the high level inputs only hook up one of the rear speakers in the Fusion. The back deck speakers are actually mono subs. so you only need to hook up one. It sounds much, much better when you only hook up one of the factory subs. to the high levels. Play around to make sure you have it polarized too.

i have a 1994 Chevy regular cab. i spent days upon days researching what the best choice would be to add bass to my system. I knew i didn't want to spend over $500 but i still wanted that booming bass. I chatted with the tech support and they pointed me in the right direction. This powered bass was easy to install and provided the perfect amount of bass while maintaining good quality! I highly recommend this option for people with limited space and limited budget that don't feel like digging a hole in your wallet! Thanks Crutchfield!

I've had this product since March 2007, and it's made my listening a pleasure in my old Toyota Truck. I recently purchased a Wrangler Unlimited, and even though it had the Infinity sound system "upgrade"...I'm missing the sound from my old stereo. The only problem with this Infinity powered sub that I've had so far is having to decide whether to move the old one over to the new Jeep, or just purchase another one! An easy to install all in one package, and I'd recommend it, and would buy it again.

COMPONETS IN FRONT DOORS, INFINITY 4X6 PLATES IN REAR DOORS,FRONTS AND REARS DRIVEN BY KENWOOD 4-CHANNEL AMP. ALL PURCHASED FROM CRUTCHFIELD.BASS LINK HAS INCREDIBLE BASS OUTPUT IF YOU TAKE TIME TO ADJUST LIKE MANUAL SAYS,

Awesome

Written By dvs1, Overseas Military on Thursday, April 22, 2010

Okay ive only have had this thing installed for a week, but wow, im impressed. I wasnt sure about getting this sub because all of the negitive reviews on how the unit quits overtime. But hey not everything last forever. its kinda like those old Tv's with the built in VCR's. With a convenent all in one package yeah you mite have some problems, but i dont see any so far. This sub sounds amazing and was so easy to install and use. Im super happy i went with my gut and got this sub. If your on the fence on buying this powered sub, dont be, buy it. I installed this on a 2002 Dodge Dakota Quad Cad behind the driver side back passenger seat. I miss measured and found out during instalation that the sub was about 1/2'' - 1'' to big for the only location that would hold it and still be consealed. The backrest wont lay flat like it should, but dosent hinder comfortability. Appearance isnt bad either.

Great product!

Written By cory, West Chester OH on Monday, November 30, 2009

I was Looking for a sub that would hit pretty hard but yet not take up all my trunk space and not have to have all the componets seperately so I went for the basslink. This sub is great for all music I personally listen to hip hop and rap and it hits very hard for a 10" sub and I highly recommend it for anyone. Very easy to install if you have basic electronic skills.

The type of bass you get from your component subwoofer doesn't depend on the woofer alone. You'll need a strong, tightly constructed enclosure for optimum subwoofer performance.
