Our take on the Infinity BassLink

Who needs a powered subwoofer?

To produce bass, you need a sub, an enclosure, and an amplifier, and it can be little tricky to match them all up. A powered sub eliminates all the hassle, as the manufacturer designs the enclosure to house the sub and amp together. This all-in-one solution is especially useful in smaller vehicles, where there's no room to mount a separate amp, or in any vehicle where you need every bit of cargo space. Powered subs range from small, flat boxes that fit under your seat to larger boxes that go in your trunk.

You crave high-performance bass, but you don't want to use all of your available cargo space to get it. The master designers at Infinity put the same state-of-the-art technology that distinguishes Infinity speakers into the BassLink amplified subwoofer, so although it takes up just one cubic foot of trunk space, it'll produce resounding bass in any vehicle.

The BassLink brings together a 10" subwoofer, a 10" passive radiator (to increase efficiency and limit distortion), and an extremely efficient, specially designed 200-watt Class D amplifier that work as an integrated system. Special circuitry monitors voice coil position to maintain linearity at high power levels, so you hear loud, clear bass.

An array of controls will enable you to tweak your bass until it has just the thump you want. For optimum system blending, the low-pass filter is variable between 50-120 Hz (12 dB per octave), and a phase switch (0- or 180-degrees) is included. Adjust low bass impact with the bass EQ feature (-6 dB to +3 dB at 40 Hz). And you'll be able to put BassLink in a variety of in-vehicle locations, thanks to brackets that enable the rigid polymer box to be mounted vertically or horizontally. A wired remote with 16-foot cable allows you to adjust your BassLink's volume from your dash.

Features
BassLink LC Remote Level Control
Inputs and Controls

Features

Design: The BassLink brings together a 10" subwoofer (treated paper cone, foam surround), a 10" passive radiator (to increase efficiency and limit distortion), and an extremely efficient, specially designed 200-watt Class D amplifier that work as an integrated system. Special circuitry monitors voice coil position to maintain linearity at high power levels, so you hear loud, clear bass.

Enclosure Type and Materials: The enclosure is made of an acoustically inert polymer which is rigid enough to resist flexing and dampens any resonance.

Servo-Control: The servo-control system continually monitors the performance of the speaker and ensures that the amplifier delivers exactly the right amount of power.

Class D Amplifier: This unit has a built-in 200 watt Class D amplifier which is highly efficient and designed specifically for use with the subwoofer and passive radiator combination.

Auto Turn-On Feature: When the speaker level inputs are used, the system will automatically turn on and off with the radio. Note: The auto turn-on feature does not operate when the preamp level inputs are used, unless the remote turn-on lead is connected.

Low-Pass Crossover: The low-pass crossover frequency can be varied from 50Hz to 120Hz for a seamless transition between the output of this unit and that of the other speakers in the vehicle. The crossover has a slope of 12dB per octave.

Bass Boost: The amplifier includes a continuously adjustable bass boost from -6 to +3dB centered at 40Hz.

Phase Switch: Allows you to select normal or reverse for best bass.

Mounting: You will be able to put BassLink in a variety of in-vehicle locations, thanks to its compact size and mounting feet that enable the rigid polymer box to be mounted vertically or horizontally.

  • Vertical Mounting Dimensions:
    • Width: 14.625"
    • Height: 13.375" (including feet)
    • Depth: 8.675" (10.076" including feet)
  • Horizontal Mounting Dimensions:
    • Width: 14.625"
    • Height: 9.5" (including feet)
    • Depth: 12.75" (15.1875" including feet)

BassLink LC Remote Level Control

Overview: The BassLink LC allows you to adjust the volume of BassLink powered subwoofer.

Installation: The BassLink LC may be mounted under the dash or may be dismantled and mounted inside the dash for a factory appearance.

  • Under-dash Mounting: Select a mounting location that allows easy, safe access to the control while driving. The BassLink LC has mounting "ears" to use as a template for drilling pilot holes. Attach screws through the "ears" to secure the BassLink LC to the mounting surface.
  • In-dash Mounting: Disassemble the BassLink LC by removing the Phillips-head screws on the front, rear, and top panels. Remove the bottom and side panels and disengage the RJ11 connector from the back panel. Choose a mounting location that allows easy, safe access to the control, and provides 1-3/4" clearance behind the mounting surface. Drill a 9/32" hole in the mounting surface. Feed the BassLink LC's potentiometer (with the knob removed) through the hold and use the nut provided to hold the control in place.
  • Connecting to BassLink: Route the cable behind the dash or other interior panels and under the carpet. Do not route the cable outside the vehicle. Connect the cable on both ends.

Inputs and Controls

Inputs:

  • Universal Interface: Front and rear, left and right Universal interface speaker-level inputs (for use with the supplied speaker-level input wiring harnesses)
  • Line Level RCA Inputs: Front and rear, left and right female preamp level inputs
  • +BATT (+12V): Gold-plated screw terminal, 0.350" wide
  • REM (remote turn-on): Gold-plated screw terminal, 0.350" wide
  • GND (ground): Gold-plated screw terminal, 0.350" wide
  • Fuse: There is an installed 20 Amp fuse
  • Remote Gain Control: Phone type jack for included remote gain control

Controls:

  • Gain Control: Rotary control that sets gain (variable from 250mV to 4V)
  • Crossover Control: Rotary control that sets the low-pass crossover point (variable from 50 to 120Hz)
  • Bass Boost Control: Rotary control that sets bass boost level (variable from -6 to +3dB, centered at 40Hz)
  • Phase Switch: Selects normal or reverse phase (0 or 180 degrees)
  • Power LED: The power LED glows red when the BassLink is on
  • Servo LED: The Servo LED glows green when the servo circuit has determined that the woofer has reached maximum excursion and power to the woofer has been modified to provide maximum performance. The LED should light momentarily during high-level bass transients. Note: Avoid adjustments that cause the LED to remain lit for an extended period of time

A great buy for the money

Written By Boston, Boston, MA on Thursday, February 02, 2012

The infinity basslink was a great little addition to the stock Bose system in my g35. It's great for what it is, it packs a nice punch for its small size. It is extremely compact and I really didn't lose much trunk space. However, it definitely doesn't stack up in terms of bass to enclosed subs and what they can offer. I would recommend it to anyone looking to spend around 200, doesn't have much space, or who doesn't want to deal with the hassle of an enclosure and a separate amp. That being said, if you have the space and the money, there are louder subs out there.
Pros:
Small, compact, great bass for it's size, pretty inexpensive, less hassle than enclosed sub, moderately easy to set up
Cons:
Does not compare to most enclosed subs (obviously.)

Infinity Bass Link

Written By Brian L, Dover NH on Thursday, February 02, 2012

WOW! I have Ford Explorer and have the Bass Link hooked up to a Kenwood X895 with Apline Type R components up front and Alpine Type S full range in the rear. The head unit powers the front and rear speakers only. This Bass Link is awesome. Really rounds out the package and delivers solid bass. I'm not a fan of rumbling or resonating bass. I like bass with a punch and this unit delivers. Highly recommend. Easy to instal and set up. The remote gain control is essential this allows you to control the amount of bass you want. I listen to all types of music from rap, heavy metal, rock to easy listening and having the ability to fine tune the bass is key.
Pros:
great sound, solid bass reproduction, easy to install and set up, remote gain control
Cons:
none

Nagging Problems

Written By ADT, Alexandria, VA on Wednesday, February 01, 2012

FIrst let me say that the customer support at Crutchfield is and always has been fantastic. That being said, I cannot recommend this sub. I rarely write reviews on products but didn't want others to have the same problems I did with this unit. I was looking for something that would fit under the rear deck lid of my Toyota 4Runner and thought that this would fit the bill. The size of the unit was perfect, but I went through 2 subs before I decided that it was not going to work for me. The first unit would not power off when the car was turned off so I sent it back. The second unit began making a "popping" noise about 8 months into owning it. I thought that Infinity was a reputable company, but I was thoroughly disappointed with the quality of these units. In addition to those problems I was NEVER satisfied with the quality of the output. It always sounded "muddy" to me. I have since gone with an Alpine amp and a Kicker 12" shallow sealed sub. So far no issues, and the sound quality is clean and clear at all volume levels. If space is a concern like it was for me, the Infinity works. If sound quality is more or equally important I would look at other options. The shallow box of the Kicker fits just fine and keeps the stock appearance I was looking for to avoid prying eyes of someone that might try to break in to steal the setup. I hope this helps.
Pros:
Size for Concealment in an SUV, Ease of Setup
Cons:
Build Quality, Sound Output, Reliability

Infinity Basslink Subwoofer w/built-in Amp (2006 Jeep Rubicon)

Written By vw, Rough Rock, AZ on Monday, January 30, 2012

For those that are not intimidated by a lot of wires and can read directions, The installation of the Basslink subwoofer was efficient and relatively quick, especially with the free wiring kit that came with the purchase(hich had everything necessary for a complete install) Forgot to disconnect negative battery terminal so I ended up with a dead battery in the end, but after a jump start, the subwoofer sounded great, better than expected. The extra gain control unit installed below the dash was also very easy to install.
Pros:
Easy install. Great quality and sound!
Cons:
Not a whole lot of options re: space in a Jeep Wrangler

Excellent product that was exactly as described. Delivers the perfect amount amount of bass. Not a competition sub. nor is it portrayed to be one. Boought and installed it in my 17 y/o godsons car and he is thrilled with the sound.
