Features
MRS Drivers: The Infinity
Cascade series of home loudspeakers features Maximum Radiating Surface (MRS)
flat-panel transducers. MRS flat-panel transducers can be loaded into
unobtrusive enclosures that are nearly as thin as they are narrow. In addition,
the MRS diaphragm functions much like a flat piston to achieve a flat broadband
frequency response and uniform on- and off-axis dispersion. Other attributes of
MRS drivers include:
- Dual Elliptical Voice Coils:
In order to uniformly drive the flat-panel diaphragms, each transducer
is equipped with two elliptical voice coils. The dual voice coils have more
than six times the voice coil contact of a typical cone speaker, and move
the diaphragm evenly top-to-bottom and side-to-side for crystal-clear
resonance-free operation throughout the driver's dynamic range.
- Ceramic Metal Matrix Diaphragm
(C.M.M.D.): The MRS drivers are made of Infinity's patented C.M.M.D., a
rigid, lightweight material. By reinforcing the C.M.M.D. panels with
strategic ribs and gussets, the Infinity engineers were able to perfectly
balance electro-acoustic efficiency and reliability.
- Rubber Surrounds: The MRS
flat-panel transducers has a rubber surround for a smoother response and
improved durability.
Mid-bass Driver:
The Model Nine features dual 7-3/4" x 3-3/8" MRS flat-panel transducers. The
mid-bass drivers are video shielded, so you can place the speaker near a
CRT-type TV without causing picture distortion.
Tweeter: The speaker has a 1"
C.M.M.D. dome tweeter, which offers superior stiffness and damping compared to
traditional metal domes.
Constant Acoustic Impedance (CAI)
Waveguide: The tweeter is mounted in Infinity's proprietary Constant
Acoustic Impedance (CAI) waveguide. This elliptical-shaped waveguide gives the
speaker a much wider side-to-side dispersion, while at the same time limiting
the sound dispersion to the top and bottom of the listening area.
Dual 5-Way
Binding Posts: The speaker has two gold-plated 5-way binding posts, allowing
you to bi-wire or bi-amp the speaker. Bi-wiring (separately wiring the high
frequency and low frequency terminals from the same amplifier output) and bi-amping
(separately wiring the high frequency and low frequency terminals from separate
amplifier channels) can provide several sonic advantages and considerably more
flexibility in power amplifier selection. You should use the gold-plated jumpers
to tie the terminals together when connecting the speaker with a single speaker
wire. Each binding post
allows you to connect the speaker wire using pin-connectors, spade connectors,
banana plugs, dual banana plugs, or bare wire.
Enclosure: The drivers are
mounted into an extruded aluminum enclosure with a curved MDF front panel with a
premium high-gloss black finish. The enclosure is internally braced to eliminate
performance-robbing resonances.
Grille: The Cascade speakers
use a unique frameless cloth grille. The grille is attached to the front of the
speaker baffle by 2 magnets. When attached to the speaker, the grille adds
approximately 1/2" to the overall depth of the speaker.
Floor Stand Mounting: The speaker
should
be mounted onto the supplied 17"-high speaker stand. A set of four spiked
feet are supplied when placing the speaker on a carpeted floor. The spikes are
equipped with locking nuts to keep the spikes in place. The spikes come with
rubber-domed cap nuts for use on hardwood floors. The spikes add approximately
1" to 1-1/4" to the overall height of the speaker. The bottom of the speaker
stand has hard rubber feet which will not scratch hardwood floors if you decide
not to use the spikes or rubber-domed cap nuts. Note: There are no
provisions for wall-mounting the speaker.
