Connectivity is the name of the game

Features

Overview: The Infinity Kappa K600 is part of the Kappa series of high-performance amplifiers. This Class D mono subwoofer amplifier will accept both high-level and low-level inputs. Class D amplifiers are highly efficient and compact, generating a lot of power without drawing much current or generating heat. The amp comes with spare fuses, speaker wire-to-RCA adapters, and mounting hardware.

Power Output: The Kappa K600 delivers the following power output:

  • 380 watts x 1 at 4 ohms (<0.1% THD+N)
  • 600 watts x 1 at 2 ohms (<0.1% THD+N)

Protection Circuitry: The amplifier features protection circuitry for thermal overload, over- or under-voltage (<9V or >16V), and short circuits. The LED on the top of the amp glows red if the amp goes into protection mode.

Controls: The Kappa K600's controls are located on one side of the amplifier. The rotary controls require a small screwdriver (not included) to make adjustments. The amp controls include:

  • Gain: The rotary gain control let you match the amp's input sensitivity to the output of the source unit. The input sensitivity range of the amplifier is 0.2V and up for a low-level input, and up to 20V for speaker-level input.
  • Input Level: The Input Level switch lets you select the type of input you are using. For high-level input, there are two settings: Hi1 and Hi2. If the audio system fails to play with an amplifier connected to its output, or you get a "speaker disconnected" message on your factory stereo, set the switch to the Hi2 position. The Hi2 position includes a circuit design to fool this type of factory system into "seeing" a speaker connected to its output.
  • Crossover: The amp features a non-defeatable low-pass filter that determines the upper limit of the frequencies that are sent to the subwoofer. You can adjust the cutoff frequency of the low-pass filter from 32Hz to 320Hz using the rotary control.
  • Bass Boost: The Kappa K600 has a variable 0-12dB bass boost, centered at 45Hz. This allows you to dial in the amount of bass according to your personal taste.
  • Subsonic Filter: The amplifier has a subsonic filter that eliminates super-low frequencies that rob amplifier power and can damage speakers. This high-pass filter is variable from 10Hz to 80Hz, and has a 12dB/octave slope.
  • Phase Switch: The amp has a 2-way Phase Switch that lets you invert the phase of the speaker output by 180°. When the subwoofer is out of phase with the other speakers in the vehicle, sound waves cancel each other and the bass response suffers. If the bass response is poor, inverting the phase of the subwoofer may improve it.

Connections: The Infinity Kappa K600 uses set screw terminals for the +12V power, ground, turn-on (remote) lead, and speaker outputs. The screws can be tightened/loosened with a Phillips-head or flat-head screwdriver (not provided). The amp connections include:

  • Power/Ground: The +12V Power and Ground terminals will accept up to 4-gauge wire. It is recommended that you use a minimum of 4 AWG power wire to the battery, with an in-line 70A fuse installed no more than 18" from the battery terminal. A 4 AWG ground wire (minimum) is also recommended, and attached to a metal area close to the amplifier.
  • Remote Turn-On: The Remote screw terminal will accept up to 8 AWG wire. Typically, an 18 AWG turn-on lead is included in an amplifier wiring kit.
  • Speaker Outputs: The amp features screw terminals for connecting two speakers. The terminals are wired internally in parallel. The amp's minimum speaker impedance is 2 ohms, so you can connect one or two 4-ohm subwoofers, a 2-ohm subwoofer, or one subwoofer with dual 4-ohm voice coils.
  • Speaker-Level Input: The amp includes two bare wire-to-RCA adapters for connecting the amp to a factory radio or aftermarket head unit without preamp outputs. You should attach the left and right speaker wires from the head unit to each adapter and plug the adapter's RCA plug into the amp.
  • Line-Level Inputs: The amplifier is equipped with one pair of RCA inputs for connecting stereo RCA patch cables from the head unit to the amp. If your source unit only has one subwoofer output, a "Y" adapter should be used to split the mono signal into two outputs.

I plan on installing the polk audio DB 842 DVC 8" shallow mount sub in my 2016 ram 1500. Will this amp be to much for it? I see the sub is rated for 250 Watts RMS

If it is a 4 ohm sub you should be fine putting 300 watts rms into it with one channel on this amp.

Yes it can. It is a 2 channel amp. Look at crutchfields subwoofer wiring diagrams to dee how to wure properly as there are multiple wiring options to vet thw most out of this amp.

Depends on the RMS rating combined at the proper ohms... but yes I have two Rockford 10's at 250 RMS each wired in parallel to achieve 2 ohms, and this amp drives them beautifully

I don't see it being used. The amp also does not draw that much power to need that size wire.

That's way over the top .if you're running under 10 feet of wire use 6-gauge if you're going to run longer than 10' drop it down to 4 gauge

What are the settings on the infinity amp set at? What ohm are you running? And what gauge wire? I recommend 4 gauge power and ground and at least 12 if not 10 gauge for the sub.

Assuming the ohms match up, the power delivery should be sufficient. However, I do feel my older infinity 1600a hit harder... depends on your preference of "thump". But I have kids in the car now, so the deep bass isn't necessary anymore.

I have it bridged and turned up 75%. It pushes a normal 300 watt sub without issues. I think it would be under power for a 400 RMS especially if it is a long throw or sealed box. Hope that helps

Hi, is your sub 400w rms at 4 or 2ohm? If its 4ohm, you are kinda of under powering and over working your amp. Im not a pro, just my .02 cents.

I won't be back at the car for three weeks but I'm about 80 percent sure it doesn't have the phone jack for a volume non to be added. If you look at amps 99% of them will have a phone jack if it can be controlled. Most are going away from it because you can increase the gain from newer radios. Hope that helps

Out of the box, no, there is no port for a remote connection. I got around this fairly easily though. I already had a preamp crossover that has a bass remote and I use it instead of my amps crossovers. You don't want to use the crossovers on the amp if you do this, as chaining crossovers can have adverse effects on the resulting sound. But having a standalone crossover is much better in my opinion, assuming you have/get a good one.

If you look in the specifications it has noise rejection differential inputs which help with any noise that may be carried over with balanced or unbalanced input signals.these inputs are only found on higher quality amps like infinity, other amps may not have this due to cost. Infinity is truly a very high quality amp at a great value! Compare specs.apples to apples and infinity will be at the top almost every time.

the primary objective in using balanced audio is to reduce noise. This noise is picked up by mutual inductance and capacitance with other stuff (frequently: mains wiring) near the audio signal. If the mutual inductance or capacitance to this noise source is equal for our two conductors, then equal voltages and currents will be induced on each conductor. That is, their difference will not change. Thus the noise source, from the perspective of our differential amplifier which only looks at this difference, doesn't exist.

Everthing I have read and from what I can actually see tells me no. Unless there is such a thing as a balanced rca and the unit has a converter built in it. I have never heard of or read in the manual such a thing. I wouldn't know on balance, but you'll probably need to convert the signal into an unbalanced rca. Curious to know what your source is? Also, balanced is just the same sgnal frequency reversed. Both the forward and reverse are transmitted so that way any extra signal bleed over onto the line can be distinguished from the original signal and filtered out. If you convert the signal before the amp then a foot or two of quality rca cable would be incredibly unlikely to pick up any new noise so the audio would remain I suspect exceptional. I work in an industry where I run signals down lines and deal with bleed over, magnetic fields, line noise, etc... It's kind of funny reading forums & the complete disregard some people place on rca shielding or the over others who worship it. RCA's Don't run them near heavy power sources or electric motors, get foil sheathed as it supposedly absorbs stray noise well to keep it off the copper signal line & add copper sheathed if you like over kill, heavy wire insulation is nice, gold tip ends as other metals can create noise not that you would hear it most likely, and don't waste money on overpriced china made wire. If you ground every device well since you'll have run balanced 90% of the way you shouldn't have any problems. Check the manual but the amp takes rca and I believe it specifies at what voltage. 4 & 5 from any source should be fine. Im no sound expert and could always be wrong but I have the amp and have done a lot of reading as I like a good clean sound.
