Our take on the Infinity Kappa 60.5cs

Install a Kappa component speaker system in your vehicle and enter the breathtaking world of high-fidelity sound. Ceramic Metal Matrix Diaphragm (C.M.M.D.) cones were first developed for Infinity's award-winning Prelude MTS home speaker system. They are constructed by bonding an aluminum cone to layers of ceramic, forming a driver that is lightweight, rugged, and extremely responsive.

Unlike other speakers, the high-roll rubber surround on the 60.5cs woofer is attached to the bottom of the Ceramic Metal Matrix Diaphragm (C.M.M.D.) cone. The result is more cone area for incredible depth and fullness in the low frequency spectrum. The cone is lighter than previous models too, for greater midrange sensitivity.

Angle the highly-acclaimed C.M.M.D. tweeter in flush-mount mode for superb stereo imaging. The 3,500 Hz crossover network (18 dB/octave high-pass, 18 dB/octave low-pass) channels signals to the appropriate drivers for seamless output.

Woofers

C.M.M.D. Plus One Woofer Cones: These speakers use cones approximately 30% larger than other speakers of the same size. This is accomplished by using a new basket design and hi-roll surround. The Plus One design offers greater bass output and a significant increase in efficiency. In addition, the C.M.M.D. cones virtually eliminate coloration due to cone flexing, resulting in less distortion and superior accuracy.

Surrounds: The hi-roll rubber surrounds allow the woofers a greater range of movement, resulting in longer X-max and more bass output.

Adapter Rings: These speakers come with three different mounting adapters. The adapters allow the speakers to be installed in a 6-1/2" opening, a 6-3/4" opening, or an oversized 6-3/4" GM/Chrysler opening.

Tweeters

Tweeter Materials: Each tweeter features a 1" C.M.M.D. dome that offers superior stiffness and damping compared to traditional metal domes. Each tweeter is driven by a powerful neodymium magnet, resulting in higher power handling and superior detail.

"I-Mount" Tweeter Mounting System: Surface mounting involves mounting the surface mount cup (using the supplied screws), then snapping the tweeter into the cup. Flush mounting is made easy through the use of the threaded flush mount adapter and plastic locking nut. For flush mounting, the tweeter is snapped into the flush mount cup. Then, the cup is secured to the flush mount adapter with a nut and clip washer. Once a cutout is made, the flush mount adapter (with the tweeter installed) is inserted into the hole. The large plastic locking nut is threaded onto the adapter (from behind the mounting surface) to hold the complete assembly securely in place. When flush mounted, the tweeters may be angled for optimum response and imaging. There are no provisions for angled surface mounting of the tweeters.

Tweeter Mounting Dimensions:

Surface Mount Flush Mount
Mounting Height 0.996"   0.588"
Depth (0.315" screw depth) 1.164"
Frame Diameter 1.646" 2.003"
Cutout Diameter   NA 1.781"

Crossovers

2-Way Crossovers: These speakers include computer-optimized, voice-matched crossovers. Each crossover features an 18dB/octave, 3.5kHz high-pass network for the tweeter and an 18dB/octave, 3.5kHz low-pass network for the woofer.

Custom Contour: Custom Contour, if enabled, will reduce the midrange output from the system, resulting in more perceived bass and high frequency response. In each crossover, this feature is enabled using the jumper, which is connected directly to the circuit board.

Crossover Connections: The crossover inputs and outputs are gold-plated screw terminals.

Mounting: There are two mounting holes in the base of each crossover.

Crossover Dimensions: L=4.251", W=3.008", H=1.437"

The best component sound. . .

Written By Adam, St. Paul, MN on Monday, April 04, 2005

These speakers are great beacuse they not only can handle power, but they also deliver great, clear sound. It is a must that these speakers are hooked up to an amp, because an after market deck doesnt deliver the power or the sound quality that these speakers are made for. These are a must buy because only infinity can make this high of quality component system that wont distort at high volume.

Stunning sounds quality!

Written By Russell, Sarasota, FL on Monday, March 07, 2005

I am floored with the sound reproduction these speakers offer, especially for the price! Although some female vocals can get a little bright on the high-end, the sound is fantastic no matter how much power you push them with.

Not Quite as simple as it seems

Written By Jon, Vestal, NY on Saturday, February 26, 2005

The speaker system is great and once the install was done I am enjoying them immensely. The process of installing these in my 1994 nissan sentra was arduous though. After spending some time on the phone with tech support they told me the speakers would fit and there should be no issues. Nissan however made this install intersting there were several obstacles that finally made me do away with all the additional mounting rings that were sent and use one of the 2 that originally came with the system. This meant drilling holes in the inside door panel. Be cautious if you plan to install these in a sentra if you are a first timer.

60.5cs

Written By thrice, Buffalo, NY on Saturday, February 05, 2005

Overall a very good product I have them as my fronts. I currently have them powered with a Crossfire VR202 which provides about 90W RMS x 2. They are very clear at all volume levels, and have the ability to play very loud. There is a setting on the crossover to provide more bass and treble or to focus on more midrange. After a year and a half with the product I feel that they are a good buy, but be sure to power them if you want to experience there full capability.
