Amazing sound from a bookshelf speaker

Infinity Primus P153 bookshelf speaker

The Primus P153 delivers rich, full sound without taking up too much space.

Once you hear the warm, rich sound of Infinity's Primus P153, you won't believe you got away with paying so little for it. With its Metal Matrix Diaphragm® driver technology and low-resonance enclosure, you'll hear music exactly as it was recorded. The Primus P153 produces sparkling high frequencies and detailed midrange from any type of music, at any volume level. And for a compact bookshelf speaker, the bass might just surprise you. So sit back, relax, and enjoy the lifelike vocal tracks, sophisticated percussion, and robust instruments that envelop and excite you.

High quality materials for long term performance

The Primus P153 features Infinity's exclusive Metal Matrix Diaphragm ("MMD" for short) driver technology in both the 3/4" tweeter and 5-1/4" woofer. These MMD drivers consist of a stiff aluminum core, anodized on both sides for increased strength and rigidity. The result is extremely fast, extremely accurate response, giving you distinctly cleaner, more realistic sound, even at higher volume levels.

Build your own Primus® system

The Infinity Primus P153 will fill just about any room with dramatic and well-defined sound. Pair it with Infinity's P363 floor-standing speaker and PC251 center channel speaker to create a stunning Primus home theater system. And don't forget to add the perfectly matched PS38 powered subwoofer to get deep, accurate bass in the mix.

Why choose bookshelf speakers?

Bookshelf speakers may be small in size, but they can deliver surprisingly big sound. Some ultra-compact models even fit on a desktop. Most are right at home in tight spaces like shelves, so they're usually good choices for your home theater's rear channels. For the best performance, try placing bookshelf speakers on solid speaker stands to help the sound really "open up." If you want full bass impact, add a powered subwoofer and enjoy punchy sound that's as deeply satisfying as that of floor-standing speakers.

Great speakers

I purchased these speakers for my garage. They are powered by an older Onkyo amp. Although small, they filled my garage with great sound. My biggest fear was a poor bass response, but there's nothing to worry about that! They provide a very balanced sound.

Pros: Value Balanced sound

Cons: Can't think of any

These are great all around speakers for smaller rooms. They work well with TV, CDs, and Radio. This flexibility makes them a great buy for the price.

Pros: Great sound, flexibility and price

Great Surrounds

Written by: Damien from New York on July 6, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have 4 P153s in use for my L, R and Rear-L, Rear-R surrounds. They are in grouped with my Infinity Primus 300 series floor standing Front Speakers and PC251 Center Channel. Since my room is only about 12'x22' in size - I didn't think the 163 series surrounds would be necessary. As I am not an audiophile, and did not individually test each speaker, my comments are based on the overall performance of the 7.1 Channel Infinity Primus speakers I put together.

In short, they are great. My floor standing speakers do the heavy lifting, but these P153 surrounds leave nothing to be wanted - in my use, I'm glad I didn't go with the 163s - there's no point. Originally I had wanted to go with a Klipsche set up... but, I'm glad I didn't. The clarity in base (along w/ the Infinity 10" powered Sub) mids and highs is fantastic for movies and music. So far, I've used this mostly for Pandora streaming. I put this system together for our in-home theater which does very well with our 92" projection screen.

We watched the most recent version of Godzilla, and Taken 3 - on more than one occasion, I had to double check over my shoulder because when the speakers are paired together (also some credit due to my Pioneer Elite receiver) the sound effects are incredibly real. I think vocal tones sound very real, not overly flat, and not overly bass-y.

This (I am hoping) has to be one of the best speaker series for the $ that i have come across. I highly recommend it

Pros: - Clarity - Punch - Look good

Cons: - Box is a little bigger than I'd hope for. A little large to use as mounted surrounds in a smaller space.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had missed the great audio days of the 70's. Recently I purchased a Yamaha RX-V477. I wanted to get speakers that would compliment that unit. The Infinity Primus P363 tower speakers, P153 bookshelf speakers, PC251 center speaker, and PS38 woofer are great. My music sounds great. Watched a movie with the family and felt like I was in the theater. Great speakers.

Pros: Sound reproduction is very good. Enclosures allow the sound to be natural.

Purchased these speakers for a reading room and general music listening. The sound is excellent, the price was very good and we really feel like we got a great buy for the money.

Pros: Small form factor, can hang from wall, can place on book shelf or table, excellent sound at a great price

Cons: I've got big hands so the speaker wire was a bit of a pain to attach to the connectors.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased these speakers for my surrounds and I love them! The acoustics are just fantastic! With these speakers I have completed my 5.1 home theater consisting of all infinity primus speakers and subwoofer all of witch I bought at Crutchfield. I have a Denon AVR1910 receiver running the show and it's all hooked up with Monster XPHP speaker cables and Monster 600sw subwoofer cable. Best home theater experience that I could ask for. Watching movies is like being in an IMAX in your home. I love listening to music and playing video games and my home theater just makes it that much more fun and enjoyable! Anybody looking for a good home theater you can't go wrong with a component system. It costs more but in my opinion it is well worth it.

Pros: Sounds great, easy to hook up and hang

Cons: None

Great speaker

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I initially purchased these speakers for my front sound stage. I loved them but then upgraded to the P163's. I kept the speakers and use them for my surrounds. They're bigger than some surrounds but they're not ostentatious by any means. They produce great sound. Everything is clear and crisp. I love them.

Also if you wanted to, you could add banana plugs to the rear inputs. There are two plastic pieces that sit into binding posts. You can use a small flat head screwdriver to "pop them out". Just make sure the screws are completely tighten for easier access.

Pros: Great price Look good; not too big Sound

Cons: None that I can think of.

Love Infinity

Written by: Luh P from NV on July 2, 2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I love infinity speakers. Infinity speaker where in my grandma's 93 Chrysler and I love to play them as loud as she would let me. When I noticed many moons ago the infinity home speakers years ago. I instantly made my selection. They are priced right, work properly and blend in well in black paint and grille. They are another motivation to leave apts. Five minutes from the box to your ears

Pros: Even though the other speakers attached to my Yamaha RX-V365 are a couple years old, they fit in seamlessly. They can handle the watts, I see from the few time I pushed them above apt. levels.

Cons: They may not be high and sound like Bose, Thiel, Monitor, etc. Though they can definitely bring home theatre to your living room or mancave.

Driver Technology

Metal Matrix Diaphragm (M.M.D.): Derived from the C.M.M.D. material used in Infinity's flagship Cascade series, M.M.D. features a stiff aluminum core, anodized on both sides for increased strength and rigidity. M.M.D. transducers conduct sound faster than paper, polypropylene, and Kevlar, pushing unwanted resonances beyond the operating range of the transducer. M.M.D. drivers deliver crystal-clear, distortion-free sound from dynamic digital sources, even at high listening levels.

5-1/4" Woofer: The 5-1/4" M.M.D. cone woofer offers extremely accurate midrange response for cleaner, more realistic sound. For a smoother response and improved durability, the woofer uses rubber surrounds.

3/4" Tweeter: The speaker has a 3/4" M.M.D. dome tweeter that offers superior stiffness and damping compared to traditional metal domes.

Acoustical Waveguide: The P153's tweeter utilizes an acoustical waveguide to deliver, more even high frequency response, no matter what part of the room you're in.

Precision Crossover Network: The speaker features a 2-way crossover system with crossover frequency at 3300Hz. The crossover has a 24dB/octave slope.

Voice-Matched: The P153 is voice-matched to all the speakers in the Primus line, so a complete matching system can be built.

Magnetically Shielded: The Infinity Primus bookshelf loudspeaker is magnetically shielded for safe placement adjacent to your television.

Enclosure Design

Wood Grain Vinyl Cabinet: The Infinity P153 features a black wood grain vinyl cabinet that matches almost any decor.

Bass Reflex Design: The Infinity Primus bookshelf loudspeaker utilizes a bass reflex enclosure with a front-firing port for greater efficiency and bigger bass response.

Low Resonance Enclosure: The P153 employs a extremely low resonance enclosure, so you hear the music exactly as it was recorded.

Grille: The speaker comes with a removable black cloth grille with a rigid plastic frame.

5-Way Binding Posts: The 5-way binding posts will accept bare wire, pin connectors, spade connectors, banana plugs, and dual banana plugs.

Color-Coded: The speaker's binding posts are color-coded (red/black) for easy identification between positive and negative.

Mounting Options

Rubber Feet: The speakers come with 4 rubber self-adhesive feet for each speaker to help secure them in place to prevent slippage and vibration.

Wall Mounting: The speaker has two keyhole slots in the upper left and right corners of the back panel. In addition, two non-skid rubber bumpers are attached in the lower corners so the speaker won't mar wall surfaces when the speaker is mounted. You can also use the optional PinPoint heavy duty side-grip wall-mounting bracket (121AM40B, sold separately) to wall mount the speakers.
