Our take on the Infinity Primus P363

by Kristen Schaub
Infinity

Floor-standing speakers — still standing tall

Sure, floor-standing tower speakers buck the industry trend toward smaller, visually inconspicuous speakers, but they're hard to beat if great sound is your primary goal. Tower speakers produce powerful sound with excellent bass, making them a great choice for serious music lovers and for folks who want high-impact home theater.

No matter where your movie and music interests take you, Infinity's Primus P363 makes an enjoyable traveling companion. The sound is detailed yet balanced, with dialogue presence that breathes life into every movie night, whether you're watching a gritty indie thriller or a lush period romance. Plus, the deep, clear bass adds a nice kick to your action flicks. And it also reproduces your music with robust, enveloping sound, no matter what you listen to or how loud you play it. It's all thanks the combination of Metal Matrix Diaphragm® driver technology and low-resonance enclosures that have made the Primus Series a longtime hit with audiophiles.

Exclusive Infinity Metal Matrix Diaphragm drivers
The Primus P363 features Infinity's exclusive Metal Matrix Diaphragm ("MMD" for short) driver technology in the 3/4" tweeter, 4" midrange, and the dual 6-1/2" woofers. These MMD drivers consist of a stiff aluminum core, anodized on both sides for increased strength and rigidity. The result is extremely fast, extremely accurate response, giving you distinctly cleaner, more realistic sound, even at higher volume levels.

Build a complete Primus® system
The Infinity Primus P363 will fill just about any room with dramatic and well-defined sound. Use a pair to create a high-quality stereo system, or add it to Infinity's P163 bookshelf speaker speaker and PC351 center channel speaker to create a stunning Primus home theater system. And don't forget to add the perfectly matched PS38 powered subwoofer to get deep, accurate bass in the mix.

Driver Technology

Metal Matrix Diaphragm (M.M.D.): Derived from the C.M.M.D. material used in Infinity's flagship Cascade series, M.M.D. features a stiff aluminum core, anodized on both sides for increased strength and rigidity. M.M.D. transducers conduct sound faster than paper, polypropylene, and Kevlar, pushing unwanted resonances beyond the operating range of the transducer. M.M.D. drivers deliver crystal-clear, distortion-free sound from dynamic digital sources, even at high listening levels.

Woofers: The dual 6-1/2" M.M.D. cone woofers offer extremely accurate midrange response for cleaner, more realistic sound. For a smoother response and improved durability, the woofers use rubber surrounds.

Midrange: The speaker has a 4" midrange driver mounted above the tweeter. Like the woofers, the midrange uses a rubber surround.

Tweeter: The speaker has a 3/4" M.M.D. dome tweeter that offers superior stiffness and damping compared to traditional metal domes.

Waveguide: The P363's tweeter utilizes an acoustical waveguide to deliver, more even high frequency response, no matter what part of the room you're in.

Crossovers: The speaker features a 3-way crossover system with crossover frequencies at 350Hz and 3300Hz. The crossover has a 24dB/octave slope.

Matching System: The P363 is voice-matched to all the speakers in the Primus line, so a complete matching system can be built.

Connections

5-Way Binding Posts: The 5-way binding posts will accept bare wire, pin connectors, spade connectors, banana plugs, and dual banana plugs.

Mounting Options

Outboard/Inboard Feet: The speaker comes assembled with attractive silver outboard feet. If desired, you can replace them with the supplied, less visible, black inboard feet. The feet can be changed with the use of a handheld Phillips-head screwdriver. The overall width is approximately 15/16" less, and the overall height is approximately 1/4" less when the black, inboard feet are used, compared to the outboard feet.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

There is not a single speaker on the market that will deliver what you will get with the Infinity Primus P363 speaker. Especially for the price. I'm an audio person to begin with. My previous speakers were Infinity RS-b's that my dad purchased for me when I was in junior high school. Those speakers were just retired 2 1/2 years ago....after 30 years of fantastic service! I listen to almost every genre of music and my old Infinities flat out kicked butt! In fact....I am hanging on to them and might have them rebuilt. Infinity is a fantastic product. The Primus-P363 speakers are absolutely the best bang for your buck on the market! I've listened to hundreds of speakers.....none of which could ever rival my RS-b's.....well that is until I hooked these bad boys up! Trust me....unless you're one of those idiots who loves nothing but thumping bass......which it seems applies to most people....these babies provide plenty of depth! Listen...they flat out thump! But more importantly....along with their fantastic bass output....they provide the complete, total full range of your mid's and high ends perfectly! You get the full spectrum with these suckers. If you have a huge living space....and you want home theater, well sure...you might want to add some accessory speaker systems. But there are many things to consider before purchasing your speakers and the size of the space they will be used in is one of them (along with other components). Buy now!
Pros:
Bass range has plenty of depth especially when placed close to wall or corner, great mid-range production and a quality tweeter make this speaker the best of it's kind for the price. $1000+ dollars of high quality speaker sound for a bargain price! Sound is most important...and they sound as good as they look.
Cons:
Absolutely none!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Very happy to have these speakers at a great sale price. I was looking to replace my very old speakers and wanted something that sounded good mostly for music in a medium size 12 x 20 room, with good range but not over powering on the base. Although I haven't had them long and am still checking them out, they seem to be exactly what I was looking for. Need to spend a lot more money to get only a little better sound quality
Pros:
Good range, clear mid tones and highs, and ample base.

Infinity Speakers

Written By Jim, Oklahoma on Thursday, January 23, 2014
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This isn't the first time I have had Infinity speakers. I had them way back when Circuit City was selling them, about 10-12 years ago, back then they were the SS and CS series. I had the CS3007's, they were pretty awesome. I then switched to Boston Acoustics for several years and just recently wore the BA975 (powered towers) out, both of the powered subs went out. My wife decided she didn't want another powered sub sitting around the house and it was going to take me forever to save for the Paradigm Studio 20's I wanted. I was looking on Crutchfield.com and came across the Infinity's. I remembered how good they were back in the day. I also noticed that they were on sale and since they were floor standing speakers, maybe I wouldn't miss not having a powered sub. When they arrived I, I hooked them up right away. They sounded really good on just about anything I played on them. They do take sometime to "warm up" though. But when they do they are great speakers. I do miss the powered sub, but for most people the bass will probably be adequate. However, the bass is better on movies versus music, don't really know why. My wife said after 30 years of rock concerts and loud stereos I am lucky to be able to hear them at all. I am currently saving up for the 3 way Infinity center, am currently using my Boston VR920. Anyway, they are as good as I remember and I am really enjoying them, the wife and kids love them, so we are good!!!
Pros:
Great sounding speakers and nice looking.
Cons:
None that I am aware of.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Infinity Primus 363 speakers: I've had them installed for 2 weeks. As many have said, there is a definite break-in period. The speakers are exactly what I was wishing for. The sound is big, crisp and pure. What I got: My sound is now pretty incredible. I'm now experiencing sound that I've always wished for but didn't think I could afford. I especially wanted the mid-range and it's doing its job very well. The 363's are bringing out mid-range and highs like they were supposed to be heard when recorded. I'm listening to all my music on my Stereo setting and my movies on the Dolby D. I'm experiencing a new world of movies and music. Like other reviewers, I'm playing music I've played for years just to experience the sounds I've not heard or are now enhanced by my 363's. I have found it's important to play with the equalizer on my iPod once I had my speakers calibrated. I am absolutely sure that anyone giving a bad review on these speakers has to have had other issues going on like bad speaker calibration or equipment issues. I am beyond satisfied with my Primus Infinity 363,s and I'm finding I'm hanging out in front of them every chance I get. The speakers are stylish and fit in very well with my living room/décor. They actually polish off my decor. My listening taste spans numerous genres. I'm in music heaven as well as movie heaven. Thanks: I'm not much of a review writer but felt compelled to write this one. The reviews I read prior to my purchase (greatly) helped me chose
Pros:
Crutchfield: User friendly website. I ordered these speakers Sunday afternoon and they were sitting in my living room Wednesday afternoon. Crutchfield exceeded my expectations. I'm a first time customer. Incredible sound. Stylish.
Cons:
None

Mind Blowing!

Written By Jay, Massachusetts on Thursday, January 16, 2014

I just received these speakers in today and after getting setup and getting my first listen, I must say I was absolutely blown away at the music detail. From crystal clear highs, to nice tight bass they are truly the best speakers I've ever owned (and I've owned a lot) The 4" midranges on these are truly amazing. They really bring out the vocals in the music. I had high expectations when I ordered these and I certainly got it, and then some!! I've always been a big fan of Infinty and they certainly are going to keep me as a customer. I've never been disappointed.
Pros:
Clear highs Smooth midrange Tight, accurate bass Overall great value
Cons:
Call me biased but I can't think of any

Very pleased

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have a pair of these towers hooked to a 5 channel Denon receiver and could not be happier with the sound. They are replacing two home made cabinet loaded with a pair 6x9 infinity car speakers, and the difference is astounding. A majority of the sound difference I'm sure can be attributed to my lack of craftsmanship in on the home made enclosure, but that just reinstates my belief that the people at infinity really know what they are doing. The tweeters are very bright and natural sounding, and the woofers are able to create adequate enough bass as stand alone. I do plan on adding a powered sub, as well as fill the remaining 3 channels on the Denon with infinity components, but I am overall very happy with the way these towers sound.
Pros:
The tweeters are immaculate, the mids are great, and the bass sounds very good. The whole range of the audio spectrum can be represented with these towers. They look great, and the fit and finish seems as though it SHOULD last a while.
Cons:
The lower end of the sound spectrum is slightly lacking, but that can be expected from a cabinet that relies a pair of mid sized drivers. The size of these towers should be taken into consideration upon purchase because they are rather large.

These speakers are fantastic! I own the Primus p150 & the Primus p162 bookshelf speakers. They are good but can't hold a candle to the p363's. I power the p363's with a NAD 315BEE and the sound is rich and full. The bass is so good I don't even have my Polk subwoofer hooked up anymore. All in all a great value.
Pros:
Big sound for the money

I would love to give 5 stars but, I really was wanting just a little more bass. It has a perfect mid range and high frequency ranges. The bass is simulated in a way but not to be too hard on the eardrums. Of course they are not loud speakers like in the past but they bring a nice balance to movies.
Pros:
Thin design, great sound, blends the frequency ranges nicely

Good things come in small bundles

Written By Emmanuel, Lubbock, TX on Tuesday, April 16, 2013
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This speaker is not the most towering floor speaker out there but it's certainly bigger than I thought it was going to be. But even more impressive is the sound that came out of this thing. My god!!! Forget all the technical mumbo jumbo about highs, lows, midrange, impedance , and what not. I know what I'm hearing. The price certainly had me fooled. This thing sounds like $500 apiece speakers. Some of the reviews I read b/4 buying mentioned a break in period on bass reproduction. I didn't have to wait--this speaker hit the ground running.

For the record I'm pairing the speakers with Marantz PM5004 Integrated Amp. and a Rega RP3 table with Elys 2 cartridge. Yeeees, suhhh!!! its' a' good to be back in the land of vinyl again. Honestly, I can't say that either vinyl or CD sounds better than the other. All I can tell you, my friends is that vinyl sounds different from CD and if I had pick one of 'em on any day of the week I say give wax.

If you are on a budget and looking for a speaker that sounds like money is no object then this is your speaker. Plus, Crutchfield will get it to your doorstep in without much hassle. Great job, fellas!

If y'all excuse me I got some records to listen to.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These sound grrrreat for digital sources and playing dance/rock music loud but if you are hooking it up to a turntable, this is not for you. I had these discontinued Pioneer bookshelf speakers that put these floorstanders to shame hooked up to a turntable. I appreciated the sound of vinyl so much more than digital, but not with these floorstanders. Also, there was a crackling in one of the tweeters out of the box so I sent it back..

Overall, the bass is not tight enough and I always kept it as low as possible. The midrange didn't wow me. Take my advice and put the same amount of money into bookshelfs. Your paying extra for the sexiness and loudness.
Pros:
looks sexy, very Loud, Great for digital sources
Cons:
bad for turntable sources, bass is not tight enough, extremely heavy.

Pleasant Surprise

Written By AlMc, Sykesville, MD on Sunday, March 24, 2013

I purchased these on advice from the Crutchfield rep with whom I spoke over the phone. Now any old high fidelity enthusiast knows you can't buy speakers over the phone or Internet since you have no idea how they will sound in your home. But the Rep was very concise in describing the relative strengths and weaknesses of various speakers that I asked about. My biggest concern was the limited power that I would have - 65W per channel using a Denon RCD n7 multimedia receiver. But i also wanted a decent powered subwoofer to accompany these since the Denon had subw output. So he thought these would work for my application - a lot of vocal jazz, soft rock, blues, oldies, and even flamenco guitar and some classical. So I took the plunge and bought them based on his recommendation. I also bought the Infinity PS410 sub on his recommendation. They arrived two days later this past Monday. Boxes were not damaged, and neither were the speakers. The Denon arrived this past Friday. Hookup was simple with the monster cables I also bought. What a pleasant surprise! These speakers instantly impressed me and my family, all music lovers. Everyone is blown away how clean these sound with great definition in the midrange. Bass is very adequate for us and they haven't really been broken in. Highs are smooth and not peaky. While the subwoofer provides the floor shaking thump, the 363's hold their own very nicely. Volume is impressive given the limited power of 65W, despite the low impedance.
Pros:
Great looking, slender tower, smooth sound across the entire range, Excellent definition especially with vocal reproduction. Quite efficient despite low impedance. Excellent bass unless you need to rattle the roof shingles (I don't). Great value for the price.
Cons:
Can't think of any. Haven't heard any.

Surprised with bass response after break-in period

As the title states, i was in for a surprise of just how much bass these speakers produced AFTER its break in period. About 10 days for me or about 8-12 rather loud music time.

When I first tried out these P363, I immediately noticed two things. Really nice highs & clarity but not the bass response I was looking for. I immediately began to cherish my 10inch Klipsch sub woofer even more. I was content with having the sub on at all times to compliment my new setup. No big deal to me because my vocals and mids were already a great gain for me for such inexpensive speakers. Infinity speakers nonetheless.

However about a week and half later I began to notice how much more bass response I was getting from these bad boys. Having a wall behind the speakers also help. I have since shut off my sub and only have the sub on about 10-15% of the time when playing music. And trust me I lovvvve bass, I never imagined the day my sub would be dang near permanently in the off position but thanks to whatever the break-in cycle did.. It did it well. I'm really happy with these speakers. The craftsmanship and quality of the materials used in the P363 would make your head spin as to how inexpensive these speakers really are.

If you just purchased these speakers and are disappointed with the initial bass response you're getting just like I was, PLEASE..Give yourself a good 10-15hours of heavy music time to break these subs in. Something truly magical happens in this break-in period.
Pros:
Great sound. Real good bass only after the break in period. I'm using a Yamaha RX473 receiver to power my Primus. Great value at this price. Great craftsmanship, sleek & sharp looking unit.
Cons:
Initial break in period is a must. It would deceive anyone into thinking these speaker lack bass during its initial setup. The speakers should come with some sort of advisory sticker right on em about how important it is to break these speakers in for proper bass response.

Overrated

Written By GW, Danville, IL on Sunday, March 03, 2013

I bought these to replace a set of Cerwin Vega VS-150's. For those of you not familiar with the VS-150's, they are easily the best speaker Cerwin Vega ever made, but they are HUGE, and I was looking to free up a little space.

Besides freeing up space, I was also hoping to get crisper highs and clearer midrange from the P363's compared to the VS-150's, but that simply wasn't the case - all I did was sacrifice ALOT of bass! Sure, the P363's have a nice punchy "mid-bass" to them, but anything too low simply overpowers them. It seems like I am constantly adjusting the bass level on the receiver with each new song that comes on! That wasn't so with the VS-150's - set the bass levels to maximum and never touch it again - nothing bothered them. I do run a powered subwoofer in my system, but it seems like there is a BIG gap in the bass range between where the sub cuts off and the P363's can comfortably take over. I will give the P363's more time to "loosen up", but I have a feeling the VS-150's will be returning to duty soon.
Pros:
Slender, space saving design and attractive.
Cons:
Can't handle low range bass - period.

I was very surprised at the quality of sound that these speakers produce. Nice cabinets and high quality components, but what would you expect? Plus they aren't as big, cabinet wise, as you'd think.
Pros:
They're great.

Great Speakers for the Price

Written By rick4946, Dallas, Texas on Thursday, January 24, 2013

These are great sounding speakers matched to a Vintage receiver. Good clean deep base with no need for a sub, 80 watts would be about the least power per channel though leaving a lot of AVR or surround sounds out of the picture.
Pros:
Good clean sound with at least 80 watts per channel or more
Cons:
Cheap looking black cabinet makes them look like the cheap modern day electronics

The receiver makes a huge difference!!

Written By Tim in Illinois, Channahon, IL on Friday, January 18, 2013

Having been a drummer for more than 35 years, I can appreciate great sound, especially percussion. These speakers are excellent at reproducing music very accurately, with realistic and clean bass. If you enjoy hearing music the way it was recorded, you will love these speakers. Be warned if you plan on a sound check of these before buying; the receiver is the key. Garbage in, garbage out. Ask the store to hook up a solid 2 channel receiver to these and you will end up buying them. I almost passed them up during my sound check, as a Denon theatre receiver was hooked up to them, with no bass or treble control. Very bland until I asked for a medium range 2 channel yamaha hooked to them. Was loading them in a shopping cart after one song.

Pros:
Very responsive and clean, best in price range IMO

Great Sound and great look. We bought these to replace a pair of JBL front channel speakers for home surround sound. The inifinity P363 speakers sound terrific with special effects. I can hear every breaking glass and transforming robot clearly. They handle music pretty well too. I LOVE these speakers!! The black speakers look great and do not take up much room..

I'm 57 years old and grew up with such speakers as JBL Century 100, AR 3a and Bose 901. I'm still a bit partial to the Bose series but I can say with no doubt that these Infinity speakers are at least as sweet sounding as the old AR 3a which I loved. You can't go wrong here.
Pros:
Clean sound, tight base.....the snare drum reproduction is just incredible.

I called Crutchfield several times and each advisor spoke highly of these speakers. Based on this and the reviews I purchased a set to replace my aging Bose 601 Series 2 speakers. Quality packaging from Infinity and excellent fit and finish for the money spent. They sound fantastic and highly recommend these to anyone who maybe sitting on the fence.
Pros:
Performed just as the advisors stated with great bass and all around superb sound quality.
Cons:
Speaker cabinets are heavy.

Excellent speakers

Written By crownjules, Marlborough, MA on Monday, December 17, 2012

Let me first state, I am no where close to being an audiophile. My experience with speaker equipment is very limited.

I purchased these P363s to start my first home theater system. These are connected to a Denon AVR1612 and matched with a F12 subwoofer. Using them for the last few weeks, I'm very pleased with them especially considering I got them on sale. The highs and mid sounds they produce are what I believe audiocentric people would call "crisp" or "clear" - sound is very well defined and not muddled at all.

The construction is very well done and the speakers look great. The connections in the back are of great quality - they are metal, unlike the Denon which uses cheaper plastic fasteners to keep speaker wire held down.

Overall, these speakers are a great buy.
Pros:
Crisp, well-defined sounds in the range it covers. Constructed using quality materials. Great looking speakers.

Infinity Primus P363 Speakers

Written By LarryC, Albuquerque, NM on Thursday, December 06, 2012
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

We had a Sansui 7000 260 watt amp and 2 Sansui SP-3500 speakers, for music, movies, etc. The speakers sounded great, but we had no center channel for dialogue in movies and TV shows. Local stores often didn't have knowledgeable salespeople, and how do you rate a speaker sitting out on the floor of a huge warehouse type room with 20-foot ceilings anyway? The Infinity Primus speakers got good reviews, so we took a chance on an internet order. Crutchfield got our order here on time, with only one damaged box. (Speaker was OK.) Our intention was to keep our Sansui speakers for the rear pair, and put the Infinity speakers up front, along with their PC351 center speaker. When we hooked them all up, we were very disappointed in how the new Infinity speakers compared to our 40 year old Sansuis. I finally gave up, and moved the Sansuis to another room, to use as a separate zone, where they do just fine. Those things are brutes, with two 2-inch tweeters, 3 different midrangers, and a 14-inch woofer. If I had it to do all over again, I'd look for 2 more Sansui SP-3500's, and a good center channel. The Infinity speakers do seem to be loosening up some over time, so I gave them 3 stars, but they aren't as good as the artifacts I already had. We've since found out the SP-3500's are considered collectors items, sought after by some stereo buffs. The upper end Infinity speakers may be really good, but these didn't meet our expectations. Get what you pay for?

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I got a pair of these to replace my 30-year-old Fried Model As, because one of them started failing. That was sad, since those speakers were excellent through all those years. They cost $500 for the pair back in 1982, and if they were still being made today, would cost twice that much, or more. The Infinity Primus has a good frequency balance and goes down quite low in the bass. The very low bass booms out a little too much for me, so I end up turning down the bass knob on my amplifier. And the bass isn't quite as tight as the Fried nor as well integrated with the other frequencies, but again, I am comparing apples to oranges. The imaging is quite good, but not as precise as the Fried. However, for the price, they are quite good. I haven't personally listened to other brands recently, so I can't compare them to Klipsch or Polk speakers, for example. The best speakers I have ever heard cost thousands, but I am quite satisfied with my Primus. If you want a less boomy bass, you could get the lower model that doesn't go down as far.
Pros:
Good quality for the price. Good overall balance and imaging.
Cons:
Imaging not as precise as expensive speakers, but good for the price. Low bass is a little boomy, but can be controlled by the bass button on the amp.

Nice Speakers!

Written By Mark, Roscommon, Mich on Saturday, November 10, 2012

I bought these because one of the best car sound systems I remember hearing consisited of Infinity Kappa 6 x9's. These speakers will not disapoint, all the detail in the mid's are there and I run 2 subs but don't really need them, half the time I have them turned off unless I want to feel the bass. I've owned a few brands of the narrow space saving towers and these have the best bass response. Speaker cabs are good looking but not great, you can tell Infinity put the money where it counts, in the speakers.
Pros:
Good mid's lots of detail, good full sounding bass
Cons:
Tweeters alittle harsh until broken in.

i bought these to replace aging Infinity SM112 speakers. i was a bit worried that the new Infinity's wouldn't "thump" as much, being that my old speakers had 10" subs incorporated in the cabinets. i am pleased to report the new P363's thump even harder. they look great with or without speaker grills. at first, the speakers sound a bit veiled from what i am used to (i prefer warm, full sound and do not typically enjoy 'bright' speakers), but i have already noticed after breaking them in they sound better and better. they are powerful too!
Pros:
good bass, full sound, attractive styling, amazing price!

Great Speakers

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought these speakers for stand alone music only. As an old audiofile once told me, music comes from in front of you, not from around you. (If you have good seats) I replaced a very aging set of JPW's and from the first listen I was blown away. Highs are crisp, mids are realistic and the lows (contrary to some reviews) can vibrate the floor. They are extremely efficient. I'm running them through a tube amp I built from a kit that only produces 16 watts a channel and they produce a clean powerful sound. One came from the "scratch and dent" dept. Try as I might, I couldn't find a single issue. Cudos to Crutchfield.
Pros:
Good looking, great sounding speaker. Great service all the way from the rep at Crutchfield to the condition of the speakers when they arrived.
Cons:
None, unless you want to consider I should have done this long ago.

infinity primus p363 tower speaker

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The Primus p363 is quite honestly a serious performer. Given my age and & enthusiasam for music I have been through many famous brands and types of loudspeakers. I have played music live in various bands & in various venues,so I pretty much know how that sounds. With a good amp or reciever these Primus will really open up accurately &with awesome authority. Very neutral with good mid range presence making them ideal for home theater. These are NOT low end spkrs. Infinity has always built some of the finest loudspeakers in the world. Primus uses the same technology. I guess you can say I love EM!.
Pros:
Highly efficient-93db. Plays louder with less power. But don't be afraid to power them up. IF you are not at all worried about going deaf, pump150 or so watts from a stable amp like 2 crown mono blocks. Nice styling. Front ported into the listening room. Mid range located at ear level a decided improvment for voicing clarity. Superb crossover network, at 24db/octave.
Cons:
none so far!

Great Sound for the Money

Written By Joshua J, Minneapolis, MN on Friday, September 28, 2012
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Growing up listening to movies and music through my JBL Soundgear 3030, I have always held Harmon International products in high regard. When it came time for me to finally assemble my own home theater system, I was expecting no less from these Infinity speakers. I've created a system of 4 P363's towers, 2 P163's bookshelfs, a C351 center, and a PS312 sub, all powered by a Harmon/Kardon AVR3650. Being a bargain hunter, I waited for these to go on "sale" to obtain the best price (well this side Black Friday sales prices).

I have had the speakers hooked up for about two months now, and all I can say is WOW! The sound reproduction and tonal quality is incredible. Everyone has their own opinions on what sounds good, but ultimately the quality of the sound comes down to the quality of the receiver and the quality of the speaker components. I've utilized various mediums ranging from music, movies and video games, and in each medium, even with works I know quite well, comes alive- whether connected via HDMI, fiber optic or composite. There are qualities to the sound that I did not know existed- that is how incredibly clear the sound is. I would definitely recommend these speakers to someone looking to obtain the best sound for the price, while still having a high quality product.

The Crutchfield sales associate recommended this particular model over the Infinity speaker that I had initially selected. He thought that I would be more satisfied and not mind the additional cost of $50 per. He was right on! This speaker is phenomenal and fit my needs exactly. Superb overall sound quality with outstanding base response particularly considering that my system does not include a sub-woofer. Delivery was prompt, free and arrived in perfect condition. Many thanks to the Crutchfield team!

Awesome towers for the price!

Written By JakeInPortland, Beaverton, OR on Saturday, August 11, 2012

I just picked these up last weekend and they sound great. Especially for the price! I noticed that Frys had them on a one day only sale for $99.99 each!!! I quickly read a handful of reviews and stormed out the door. These were purchased to replace my older Klipsch SF-1, and what an upgrade they were! AND since they were so cheap the upgrade was totally free as I was able to get $200 for my Klipsch on Craigslist.

Don't hesitate on buying these if you can get them for the right price!
Pros:
Crisp, clear highs. Nice full mids, and plenty of low end for my 5.0 setup.
Cons:

Speakers give good, crisp highs from the tweeters. Also give nice range through the mids. Bass leaves a little to be desired, but is perfectly fine when accompanied with a subwoofer. Definitely worth the money. Speakers perform well for home theater use as well as in stereo arrangement for music.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I don't usually write reviews, but thought this is the least I could do for these speakers. I think I did a fair amount of research online and listened to multiple sets of speakers in stores before I decided to get these P363's. Crutchfield had them at a good price per unit. These things are awesome, you never know with speakers until they are in your house set up to your receiver, but these did not dissapoint. I found that removing my sub made my system sound better after turning these speakers on. They do the job and more in place of the sub. I don't really have any sources for hd music, everything I listen to is online, and mid quality at best, so I can't attest to these and music, but I can speak to how they sound with blu-rays, and they are great. It's better then being in a theater. I was thinking of getting the polks, but the range wouldn't cover the low frequencies like these do.
Pros:
sleek design, sound great, easy to hook up
Cons:

I have owned a pair of P362s--the earlier version of the P363s--and I agree with everything said here by other reviewers. Apparently, the only differences between the P360, P361, P362, andP363 models are cosmetic. I want to emphasize that the P36x speakers have incredible imaging, producing an impressive soundstage. If you're interested, check out the Stereophile review of the P360s from 2005 (search 'Primus P360 review' and you'll find it quickly).

Pleased with performance

Written By Tim, Philadelphia, PA on Saturday, July 30, 2011

After some serious research, I purchased the equivalent of this speaker back in 2005. I have been quite pleased with these towers! I use these in conjunction with center channel speaker, a 12" sub, and two surrounds (all Infinity Primus) all tied together with an Onkyo TX-SR805 receiver. The home theater aural experience has left me literally tingling with pleasure!

When I rock some Pantera or kick back with some Chopin, I use only the towers and the sub. Brilliant performance on all fronts! The clarity and bass response is nothing short of of top quality, even during the max volume test!

If you're looking for some towers of power but don't want to break the bank doing so, these speakers are the answer! I've had them for 6 years and cannot justify replacing them!

Thanks to Crutchfield for superb customer service and speedy delivery as always!

Outstanding speaker. Harman gives a lot of product for a very cheap price with these speakers. I've used other Infinity products in the past, (I have the Entra One as my PC speakers now) and they seem to be a bit brighter than these 363. Maybe a new crossover network?? Not sure but the 363 seem very detailed but not bright. One of my hobbies is audio, car and home. In short, I've been listening for a long while and these speakers are very, VERY nice. From HT to serious two channel listening. Imaging is GREAT and sound stage matches that!! You won't be sorry.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I don't consider myself a "snooty" audiophile, but do appreciate good sounding music. I've listened to and owned a number of comparable towers from competing manufacturers, Klipsch, Polk, Yamaha etc. In my opinion, the Infinity P363's offer the best moderately priced value IF sound quality (no screaming or other in your face speaker behavior) and overall balance is important to you. The soundstaging, mid range detail and instrumental focus is outstanding. These seemed kind of harsh out of the box. Not to worry though, they really start "blooming" after about 50 hours. Go for it. You'll get great sound without breaking the bank. BTW, always deal with Crutchfield for "top shelf" service!

Infinity Primus P363

Written By David A., Central Illinois on Tuesday, May 31, 2011
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

WOW !!!! What an AWESOME set of speakers at a GREAT price.

I recently purchased a set of Bose 301 speakers to attach to my vintage Pioneer stereo from the mid 70's. What a HUGE disappointment. I contacted my Crutchfield rep and asked for the best pair of speakers at about the same price. The pair of Bose were $328 and the Infinity Primus P363 were on sale at $398 a pair. The Bose were flat and had NO depth or crispness in bass. The Infinity speakers have great full range clarity and depth and you can FEEL the music!!!

I HIGHLY recommend these speakers, the GREAT Crutchfield service and expertise is a GREAT Bonus.

I have also purchased and LED LCD TV, Surround Sound and Blu-Ray player from Crutchfield.

Thanks Crutchfield David A.

Whats the grill made of ? Is it metal or cloth ? [ Santosh  Jan 01, 2014 ]
13 answers
  • Hopefully you have the answer by now.....as I somehow missed this email. The grill is made of cloth. I bought these in July just last year....and believe it or not, just hooked them up for the 1st time yesterday. They've been in storage up until that time.....I really like Infinity. I think they build great speakers. These 363's are replacing an old pair of RS b's which I still have...... My RS b's lasted me well over 25+ years.....and I am planning on having those old Infinities re-built. I haven't even begun to Q my new 363's....I usually like to tinker around a bit and give them plenty of time to settle in before Q'ing/dialing them in....but I can already tell that these are going to be fantastic speakers. I don't understand some of the negative comments about bass....as these speakers provide plenty of it. Not to be judging others....but seriously.....I don't think those people fully understand what a full range of quality sound is supposed to sound like. These speakers flat out thump! In time they'll provide very great mid's and high's to complement the deep bass output. Hope this helped in some way. [ JOHN K   Apr 19, 2014 ]
