Infinity Primus PR6502is

Overview

Our take on the Infinity Primus PR6502is

Vehicle manufacturers don't put much thought into stock stereo systems, and it shows. Uninspired vocals, muddy cymbals, and flabby bass are dead giveaways that you've got stock speakers. Install a set of Infinity's Primus PR6502is 6-3/4" speakers in your car and you'll notice a world of difference. Lifelike vocals, crisp cymbals, and well-defined bass await you, and cruising around town will be more enjoyable as you get pulled into your favorite tunes.

Built with home audio know-how

Infinity used technology from their popular Primus home speakers to design car speakers that offer strong performance without breaking the bank. A 3/4" edge-driven, textile dome tweeter broadcasts smooth high frequencies while the oversized, Plus One+ polypropylene woofer creates solid bass. The speakers' 3-ohm impedance safely draws extra power out of your factory radio, aftermarket stereo, or an external amplifier, so you'll get a little more punch from your system. Grilles are included.

These speakers are a great replacement from factory. I recently purchased my vehicle used, and previous owner replaced factory with cheap replacements. These sound 1000x better. They lack depth due to not a lot of low end, but a nice 300 watt sub combo from Kicker did the trick.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Excellent upgrade to stock Jeep JK Unlimited system. Can't wait for dual subs and amps to fill out the package.

Pros: Easy to retrofit, esp with Crutchfield harnesses and adapters.

Cons: Adapters don't work with overhead sound bar. Used Infinity grilles and drilled new holes. Also, in front location, ground off factory box tabs and screwed adapter to box but still had to drill new holes for speaker. Looks factory installed so all is good.

Better than expected.

Installed in rear doors of a 2005 Jeep Liberty along with butyl based sound deadening material. Straight forward install, the supplied adapters worked fine. Set my high pass filter at 50hz so these aren't getting more than they can handle.

Pros: Clean bright sound. More bass than other reviews led me to expect. Well matched with the Infinity Primus PR6500cs components I put up front.Got them on sale!

Cons: Had to adjust my EQ. ;)

Great speakers

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have a 2005 Jeep Liberty, which has funky speakers with a built-in amp. When I bought the car a couple of years ago, the sound system didn't sound very good, and I replaced the factory unit with a JVC receiver. It didn't sound much better, and I determined that it was the speakers that were the weak link, but I was reluctant to replace them because they were expensive hybrids. I've lived with distortion and rattle since then, but when the power window broke and I had to fix that, I thought I'd give the speakers a shot, as I'd seen a YouTube video on how to do it. I called Crutchfield and the representative looked them up and told me the factory speakers were 2 ohm. He searched a bit and found these, which are 3 ohm. He said they'd be compatible. I said "let's do it." I spent Saturday afternoon replacing the window motor and the speakers. I put the door panels back on, turned the key, and turned the volume knob. These things sound so clean and magnificent! I just want to drive around listening to the stereo. Road Trip! Speaker are an "A," Crutchfield's assistance is an "A+."

I bought these after chatting with a Crutchfield tech as an upgrade to my factory speakers. What a difference! The factory units sounded tinny with very little bass response, and these Infinity's make up for those deficits.

Pros: Great price and sound quality; Infinity name; fit perfectly with supplied bracket.

Cons:

These speakers are a good replacement for the factory Infinity Gold system in Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles, front and rear doors.

Pros: Easy install, (minor drilling)

Cons: These speakers are great, but; If I had a con, I wish the tweeters could pivot upward instead of being in a straight fixed position.

Quality is fair, for the price works great, a little better than original manufacture speakers. It has some distortion, and more when it gets louder... great for an adult, maybe not the best option for a teenager partying...

Pros: Cheap, good package, includes screws, and easy to install

Cons: Not the best quality sound of the world. If I wouldn't have to remove the door panels again, I will buy something a little better.

Easy install (front & back) and sound quality is second to none!

Pros: Sound is incredible. Caution:: If listening to a live album, you might actually think you're there and forget that you're driving!

Cons: No cons with the speakers themselves. Saturn's design of speaker placement is a bit convoluted, but easy enough.

Sweet upgrade for Honda Accord!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These have the sound quality I have come to expect from Infinity, especially on the high end. It's slow breaking them in with only a factory head unit, but they are already a pleasure to listen to. They are plenty sensitive and loud, but nice and clean. Installation in both front doors and rear deck was quite easy in my 2011 Accord with the adapters and pigtails provided by Crutchfield. All in all, it took me about 1.5 hours.

Pros: Low price, high value High efficiency

Cons: Could have a little stronger bass, but respectable considering factory amp.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have a 2009 Colorado w/crew cab. The front speakers only required drilling but the opening in the back doors were much to small to fit the 6 3/4 speakers. I had to get the grinder out cut some sheet metal. It only took an extra 15 min per door. Would have given a five if not for this.

Pros: The sound is awesome with a fair price.

Cons: Only having to cut the rear doors but not a huge deal besides it gave me an excuse to use my grinder and release some stress.

Installed in 2013 CRV LX

Written by: Cliff from Georgia on October 10, 2015

2013 Honda CRV
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These were a nice upgrade to the stock speakers. The LX does not have the tweeters in the top corner of the door, and I suspect that the EX might just have the same speakers as the LX, with the addition of the tweeters. The biggest improvement was the high end, which is to be expected going from 1 way to 2 way speakers. The magnets were a good bit bigger than stock, and these had a little bit better low end, with a good bit more punch and clarity down low. If you want a big boost in the weak low end of the stock system, it's probably best to add an amp and subwoofer. Overall a good improvement and worth the price. The installation was a bit tricky. The adapter rings did not line up well with the slots and hole in the door. You have to push the top down maybe as much as a 1/4" to get the bolt started. When this happens the ring becomes oval, and the bolt head prevents the speaker from being screwed into the pre-drilled holes of the adapter ring. So I ground the head of the bolt at an angle so the rounded edge of the speaker could get closer, and I drilled another set of holes in the rings. I also wanted to seal the ring and put some caulk or something to prevent rattles. The tube of caulk I had was dry so I used some roof patching cement. This is gooey tar like stuff that while very messy, did a good job of preventing rattles.

Pros: Great high end, fairly good low end. Good clarity. A very noticeable improvement over stock (especially in the LX).

Cons: Adapter rings need some modification to work. May not be the best option for low end, though not much can be expected from 6.5s and a stock head unit. It'd be good to find a comparison to find the best low end for 6.5s, for those of us who want the best low end without going with an amp and subwoofer.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Easy to install in stock speaker hole, thanks to Crutchfield's mounting brackets. Sound is impressive from a door rear mounted speaker. Crisp highs, but not harsh or painful. Accurate voice and orchestral instrument reproduction. Great for the price!

Pros: Sound, ease of install, efficiency, faithful reproduction.

Cons: Will not thump, but hey, this is a 6" door speaker. So, that's what the upcoming sub install is for :-)

Great Stock Speaker replacement choice

2007 GMC Sierra
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought these to replace my door speakers on my stock GMC Sierra Crew Cab 2007 - All four door speakers were toast. Read several reviews and with the free harness and adapter that Crutchfield provides it was a no brainer. Watched a couple of online videos on How to take door panels off and I went at it after work on a Saturday. 2 Hours later I was and have been enjoying much improved from stock sound. I obviously did not break the bank buying these mid range fairly inexpensive speakers, but for the stock Stereo and CD unit from GM they are Fantastic...I am a happy camper!! I now have 4 functioning speakers an my stock high range tweeters in the a Pillar still work fine. Recently took a 14 hour trip to North Carolina and the sound was awesome. Very happy with my Cruthchfield / Infinity experience .....Thank You!!!

Pros: If I would have known it would have been so easy I probably would have upgraded, as my inside of my doors are in great shape.

Cons: Probably should have added more of the padded insulation tape around speaker edges to avoid bass reverberation which I fear will be coming when things loosen up?

2012 Honda CRV
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The sound from the stock speakers in my 2012 Honda CR-V was well.terrible! I spoke to a representative from Crutchfield who suggested the Infinity Primus PR6502is as replacements. I purchased 2 pairs for front and rear replacement and I could not be happier! Install only took about an hour, the included adaptor rings and wire harnesses made the job much easier. The sound went from flat and uninspired to tight and punchy. The sensitivity and ohm rating on these speakers do make a noticeable difference in the volume you can get from the stock head unit. You are not going to get thundering bass from 6 ½ inch speakers but the low end response is more than adequate. In fact, I've had these speakers installed for 2 weeks now and it seems that they sound better as they "break in". Overall these are great replacement speakers at a great price. As always, great service from Crutchfield.

Pros: Great replacement speakers at a great price.

Cons: None

The original speakers were descent when I first bought my Honda Civic. I was itching to upgrade something in the car. I replaced the speakers just for a change. Boy it was sure a bg change. I love the way Crutchfield sent me all the installation hardware. The soundstage was much improved. It was much loader and clear than the original. It loacked a little bass compared to the stock speakers. .

Pros:

Crutchfield delivered in two days as promised and included all the necessary installation supplies. Thank you! The speakers themselves were very easy to install in my 2012 Honda Accord. Sound is a lot clearer than the horrible stock speakers. These do lack the mid-range and bass that I was hoping for, but you can only ask so much out of a weak stock head unit.

Pros: Easy install. Very clear sound.

Cons: Sound is a little bright with limited mid-ranges and bass.

Pros: Great mids and highs and have plenty of punch. Don't expect a lot of true bass out of these but the cover the lower end of the midrange just fine.

Great improvement over stock speakers but that should come as no surprise. Highs are crisp and bass is full. From Thelonius Monk's "Wednesday Night Prayer Meeting" to Beck's "Guero" there's a crispness to the music again. I'm not interested in massive bass response so I've no use for a sub, these speakers are great - clean and simple.

I had to replace a pair of Honda Civic speakers, which are well known for being damaged by water and for being a very small fit. But these speakers together with their adapter went right in and were a treat to listen to. A little bright, but turning down the treble fixes that. Outstanding sounding speakers. Glad I got them.

Pros: Fit the car very well. High quality sound

Cons: Included screws with kit are too long. Cutting them down is necessary.

2012 Honda Accord
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased these speakers as replacements for all 4 of the factory installed units in my 2012 Honda Accord. In a word, the OEM speakers were terrible, no highs, no bass, just noise. Crutchfield has always been my go to source for car audio & they didn't disappoint, the only downside was the huge selection, if you can call that a downside. I settled on the Infinity's because of the specs and user reviews and I couldn't be happier. Everything I needed for installation was included and arrived ahead of the estimated shipping date. Installation was an all day adventure but well worth it. When it comes time to replace the head unit and add a sub-woofer (much needed) I'll be returning to Crutchfield.

Pros: MUCH better sound quality than the plastic OEM speakers. No, 61/2" speakers are not going to produce much bass but I cannot overstate the vast improvement in the mids and highs. I would definitely recommend these speakers to anyone wanting to upgrade their factory system.

Cons: None

Cons: So far, none

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought these to replace the rear factory speakers in my 07 Honda CRV and they did exactly what I wanted. The factory amp seems to be dedicated to the front speakers as they are much more pronounced and louder, however, replacing the rears with these, they are slightly louder, much clearer and have much more detail to them. I can only imagine how nice they would sound with an aftermarket amp. Great speakers. Not sure about the bass as I have a sub and run my bass on flat.

Pros: Clean sounding

Cons: None

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The install of four speakers took me about an hour. In the instructions it wanted me to take the door panel completely off. Undoing the cable for the door latch is not that easy. I was able to rotate the panel in such a way as to change the speaker without complete removal. Assemble the speaker before installing.

Pros: Perfect fit. Much improved midrange and highs. The wiring kit worked well.

Cons: The foam damper was supposed to be installed in the recess of the back of the speaker frame. That groove was too deep to be filled by the foam. So I stuck the foam along the outside edge of the frame. No big deal.

Replaced a set of Polk db651s with these in my 01 Silverado front doors. The left Polk blew from a bass hit and being a little underpowered. The Polks sounded nice and were bright but didn't have the lows these PR6502is do. The combo of the old 4x6 Pioneers in the rear doors and my 10" RocFos Sub make my Z71 sound very nice. I was going to try the Pioneer TS-A1675R which sounded good on display. One of Crutchfield's Techs recommended these Infinitys and I'm glad he did. I'm sorry but I forgot his name.

Pros: Nice sounding 6.5" with decent bass and good range for it's size using the stock head unit.

Cons: Tweeters sound good but could be slightly brighter and that's just a nit pic. There's really isn't any cons to these.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I wanted new door speakers for my GMC Sierra 1500. If you don't go into this purchase looking for these to be your only speakers, then you have the correct mindset! These speakers coupled with a mid to high end head unit, an amplifier on the mids/highs, and a great quality subwoofer and amplifer, you will have a top notch sound system to please most of the audiophiles out there! Recommend 100%

Pros: Great mid and high range for the price!

Cons: Highs do sound a little "tinny" with a factory head unit with little to no adjustment, but I can get over that since the factory deck won't be what is pushing these very long.

Little overpriced, but great product

Crutchfield response on January 13, 2015 Our database shows that the speakers will fit the front doors, but might be a little snug in the rear doors, so we err on the side of caution. We're glad to hear they worked out for you! Our research guys will take another look at our measurements and adjust our database, if necessary. Enjoy your new speakers!

I did not expect great bass for these speakers. I expected great highs and mids, and infinity definitely delivered on that. I keep my hpf at 120 anyways so all my lower frequency sounds come from the subs. The clarity of these speakers are on point to say the least. And for the price you cant beat em. If you are looking for more bass in your inside speakers though, id say polk audio will deliver that.

Pros: Great highs and great mids. Performs well at high levels. Clarity is great. Quality is worth more than 99bucks for sure.

Cons: Not much bass for a subwoofer free setup.

Nothing bad to say about these. They put out more bass than I expected. They're rear speakers and are connected to an Alpine power pack amp (45 x 4 RMS) with the gains at about 40%.

Pros: Good bass, clear sound.

Cons: The regular price seems a bit high, but I got them on sale so the price was acceptable.

Infinity really delivered in the 3 ohm design filling the gap in the speaker department by allowing decks and amps to push a little harder. Soundwise they produce plenty of clean mid however they do lack on low bass, and the highs never get extremely blistering (partly 2way design). Though If set up right with the crossovers they are a good SQ speaker for the money. I have owned almost every major brand of speaker and bought these solely on the fact that I haven't ran infinity speakers before. I am highly impressed and would likely buy infinity products again.

Pros: 3 ohm design, Mids Sound Great, Price is Competitive, Decent Quality, High Signal to Noise Ratio

Cons: Not A Ton Of Lows, Highs Aren't As Bright As I Like.

Stock speakers lacked the highs both front and back. Got these to fit the back door speaker location. They fit hole but could only use one stock mounting hole. The rest had to drill but was easy enough. I was hoping to satisfy the need for highs by putting these in, which it did, but the highs do not carry well into the front. They do however sound great for the rear passengers. Bass sounds good for 6 1/2 speakers.

Speakers were not an exact fit, but it was an easy enough installation (in my car). Sound is great, bass is a little lacking, but the sound quality is generally better than the factory speakers I was using previously. I didn't even need to change out my tweeters. The included vehicle-specific adapter made this a very simple "plug and play" operation. Would definitely recommend these speakers, especially from Crutchfield, because Crutchfield includes such an adapter. All in all, I'm very satisfied with my purchase.

Pros: - easy install, good highs/lows, good value, comes with adapter

Cons: - not as much bass as I would like

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased these as an upgrade to my Rockford Fosgate P165 Punch but it was actually a very big downgrade. The RF speakers were good quality, but I got greedy and wanted more. The Infinity speakers have very little bass, not much better than factory speakers and the cone was not up to par with the price; they felt almost like paper and gave me the impression it would be very easy to damage. To be fair about this review I want to make it clear I left the Rockford Fosgate frt. speaker in on one side and the Infinity on the other. I then used my fade and balance buttons to compare sound quality. What I found out was the RF speakers had much better base and the treble was on par with the Infinity. I thought I had researched well, but I guess there is no substitute for seeing and hearing before buying. I returned these speakers and if I decide to upgrade it will be with another pair of Rockford Fosgate speakers.

Pros: Good looking speakers

Cons: Cheap cone material make for lousy bass and a tinny sound like factory speakers.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great speakers. Highs are great. Somewhat weak for bass as many others have eluded to. The problem for me was they really didn't fit into my 2000 Forerunner. The nature of the mounting is such that the mounting screws have to line up or it really doesn't work. No way for a generic adapter bracket to solve the problem either. Anyway, one of four screws holding one speaker in and I somehow managed to get 2 of 4 in on the other side. Very disappointed with the Crutchfield compatibility system. I was going to replace the back seat door speakers but with no faith in getting anything that will fit I'll probably stick w/ what I have.

Pros: Great speaker for the price

Cons: Did not fit as advertised for a 2000 4 Runner.

Not a bad set of speakers at all. They installed easily with crutchfield kit. There is so much more clarity than with the factor speaker it's unbelievable. They sounded even better after I put my new alpine deck in. Only reason I can't give it 5 stars is because of bass. It has very little bass at all. But overall great speakers.

Pros: ease of installation, nice mids and highs, very clear

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Good speakers, but most head units, factory or aftermarket, probably won't do them justice. I replaced the front speakers on my 02 Silverado with these and added a Kenwood Excelon HU. Good sound at low to medium volume but any attempt to turn it up louder for a favorite song results in distortion. Planning on a good 4 channel (I replaced the rear speakers as well) amp in the near future.

Pros: Nice mids and highs, even without an amp, but don't try to push the base without plenty of clean power running them. I think once I have the amp, I'll be well pleased.

Cons: Good potential, but without an amp, muddy and prone to distortion.

I never expected such a difference especially since I still have the original head unit...soon to be replaced. The service representatives at Crutchfield recommended these and I believe they did a great job.

Pros: Great sound from OEM. Can't wait until I install a head unit with some power! Fit my application perfect in the front doors

I purchased these to replace the four factory door speakers. I have them coupled with a Pioneer AVH-X5500BHS head unit. Although only being powered from the head unit, and not at their full potential, they sound great. I have the head unit's crossed over at 80Hz, to prevent distortion of the lower registers with these speakers, and that seems to be optimal in this vehicle with no amplifier powering the speakers. It has no distortion at higher volumes. I am very pleased with how they perform and will add a 4 channel amp in the future as well as a subwoofer for better bass reproduction.

Pros: Great sound, ease of installation

Cons: Bass reproduction is not the best but it is as expected for a 6 1/2" driver

Features

Plus One Woofer Cones: The Plus One speaker cones offer more surface area than other speakers that fit in the same size opening. This is accomplished by using a new basket design and hi-roll surround. The result is greater bass output and an increase in efficiency.

3-ohm Voice Coil: The Primus Series speakers feature 3-ohm voice coils to compensate for the high in-line resistance of small gauge factory wiring and extract every watt from the factory receiver, increasing overall system output and efficiency (relative to 4-ohm speakers). The speakers also benefit from increased power when you upgrade the wire and add aftermarket amplifiers capable of powering a 2-ohm load.

Power Handling: Although Infinity lists the continuous average RMS power handling as 70 watts, they also list the recommended power range as 5-125 watts RMS. We've opted to list the more conservative 70 watt RMS figure on the specifications page.

Mounting: Infinity markets these speakers as 6-1/2"; they will fit in standard 6-1/2" speaker openings (approximately 5" diameter), but they do not use the standard 6-1/2" speaker bolt pattern. In order to install them in standard 6-1/2" applications you must drill new screw holes. The speakers are easily installed in many standard 4-hole 6-3/4" applications with no modification.
