Built with home audio know-how

Infinity used technology from their popular Primus home speakers to design car speakers that offer strong performance without breaking the bank. A 3/4" edge-driven, textile dome tweeter broadcasts smooth high frequencies while the oversized, Plus One+ polypropylene woofer creates solid bass. The speakers' 3-ohm impedance safely draws extra power out of your factory radio, aftermarket stereo, or an external amplifier, so you'll get a little more punch from your system. Grilles are included.

Features

Plus One Woofer Cones: The Plus One speaker cones offer more surface area than other speakers that fit in the same size opening. This is accomplished by using a new basket design and hi-roll surround. The result is greater bass output and an increase in efficiency.

3-ohm Voice Coil: The Primus Series speakers feature 3-ohm voice coils to compensate for the high in-line resistance of small gauge factory wiring and extract every watt from the factory receiver, increasing overall system output and efficiency (relative to 4-ohm speakers). The speakers also benefit from increased power when you upgrade the wire and add aftermarket amplifiers capable of powering a 2-ohm load.

Power Handling: Although Infinity lists the continuous average RMS power handling as 70 watts, they also list the recommended power range as 5-125 watts RMS. We've opted to list the more conservative 70 watt RMS figure on the specifications page.

Mounting: Infinity markets these speakers as 6-1/2"; they will fit in standard 6-1/2" speaker openings (approximately 5" diameter), but they do not use the standard 6-1/2" speaker bolt pattern. In order to install them in standard 6-1/2" applications you must drill new screw holes. The speakers are easily installed in many standard 4-hole 6-3/4" applications with no modification.

Customer Q&A

Q
Did anyone have trouble installing the speakers onto the adaptor brackets?

A
I've looked at all the information we have on them including where our technical support can list notes about it. I cannot find anything stating that there have been issues using this mount with those speakers. The only potential issue I can see is if there is not enough room in the speaker location to take the Infinity speakers. If our fit guide shows the Infinity's fitting, you should be fine. If not, you may want to speak with an advisor on 1-800-324-9695 to find out why they don't fit so you can determine if you can modify the location to make them fit. They have been very popular speakers and get great reviews from customers on our website. You can see if they are a recommended fit and get the proper installation accessories for your vehicle by using the "Outfit My Car" application on our website: https://www.crutchfield.com/car/carselector.aspx?lp=%2fCar%2foutfitmycar%2fmycar.aspx I hope that helps. I would not recommend these speakers on any car. They don not sound good with songs that have a lot of bass. I would not buy them again They are probably not as good as the base speaker in your F10 (5 series).

Q
What are the following specs for enclosure design? Vas = ? Qts = ? Fs = ? Effective cone diameter = ? Driver displacement = ?

These Thiele Small parameters are a bit advanced for a Q/A place like this because these work together with others to help you design the best box for a woofer and gauge how well it will perform. The main ones to consider are Fs: resonate frequency of the speaker, Vas: the volume of air equal to the compliance (stiffness) of the speaker, and Qts: the total amount of mechanical and electrical loos of the speaker at the Fs. These help you determine how big to make the box, the shape of the box(helps determine the tuning frequency of the box), and gauge how loud it will play (how much power you need to run it for the desired volume level). There is calculators out there to help you design the best box for the woofer. Any further questions on this should be handled through an advisor that you can reach on 1-800-324-9695. For their size, these are incredible speakers. They are accurate and crisp. Use lots of batting in your enclosure as they can be a little harsh. I installed them in my travel trailer and they fill it up with music.

Overall, a decent speaker. Quality of sound is pretty good when compared to stock.

These seem very similar to the 6500IX, and I have heard those in person, how do these compare? I believe Reference and Primus are quite similar.
