Our take on the Infinity Primus PR9603is

Vehicle manufacturers don't put much thought into stock stereo systems, and it shows. Uninspired vocals, muddy cymbals, and flabby bass are dead giveaways that you've still got stock speakers. Install a set of Infinity's Primus PR9603is 6"x9" speakers in your car and you'll notice a world of difference. Lifelike vocals, crisp cymbals, and well-defined bass await you, and cruising around town will be more enjoyable as you get pulled into your favorite tunes.

Built with home audio know-how

Infinity used technology from their popular Primus home speakers to design car speakers that offer strong performance without breaking the bank. A 1" edge-driven, textile dome tweeter and a 5/9" piezo supertweeter broadcast smooth high frequencies while the oversized, Plus One+ polypropylene woofer creates solid bass. The speakers' 3-ohm impedance safely draws a little extra power out of your factory radio, aftermarket stereo, or an external amplifier, so you'll get a little more punch from your system. Grilles are included.

A long time Infinity fan, these 6x9 were no surprise. Crisp and clear with zero distortion. Deep tones are wonderful and help fill in where the woofers stop. Can't ask for more.

Great Speakers

Written by: Steve E from Florida on May 11, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These are mounted in the doors of a Dodge Ram 1500, replaced some Pioneer 6 x 9s that sounded pretty good-- these are better, a lot clearer sound. I also have Infinity component speakers & a Pioneer 10" sub behind the seat, now I can hear things in songs that I didn't notice before. when cranked up, it sounds awesome !

Pros: They come with plastic spacers that go under the speaker, to bring the magnet out away from the window when its rolled down. I probably would have had to make some, so I'm glad they were included

Cons: none

Great sounding speakers. Crisp highs great bottom end. I put these in the doors of my truck and with such great bass response, I was able to eliminate my cumbersome subwoofer and amp.

Cons:

Impressive!

These are great sounding speakers! Mids and highs sound clean, and the bass is just right without being over powering. I installed these in the doors of my `08 Sebring Convertible. Crutchfield says they will not fit, but they do! I had to use the spacer ring that comes in the box and 1" screws instead of the factory screws. The door panel went back on with no problems. Of course now I cannot hear my other speakers. I am planning a new head unit and replacing the rest of the speakers at some point.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great sound. Compared to pioneer tsd6902s they have a louder crisper sound with more bass. The pioneers give a more natural sound. The 3 ohm impedance makes it more like 4-68 watts rms so that you're able to do more with less. When amplified, these things sound phenomenal.

Pros: Lower power necessity

Cons: Less of a natural sound

Features

Plus One Woofer Cones: The Plus One speaker cones offer more surface area than other speakers that fit in the same size opening. This is accomplished by using a new basket design and hi-roll surround. The result is greater bass output and an increase in efficiency.

Edge Driven Dome Tweeters: Each speaker has an edge-driven textile soft dome tweeter. An edge-driven tweeter has better dispersion characteristics and allows for a lower crossover frequency than typical tweeters of the same size, which improves imaging. The result is improved vocals and musical clarity.

3-ohm Voice Coil: The Primus Series speakers feature 3-ohm voice coils to compensate for the high in-line resistance of small gauge factory wiring and extract every watt from the factory receiver, increasing overall system output and efficiency (relative to 4-ohm speakers). The speakers also benefit from increased power when you upgrade the wire and add aftermarket amplifiers capable of powering a 2-ohm load.

Power Handling: Although Infinity lists the continuous average RMS power handling as 90 watts, they also list the recommended power range as 5-200 watts RMS. We've opted to list the more conservative 90 watt RMS figure on the specifications page.
