Crisp, clear dialogue for TV and movies

Infinity Primus PC251 center channel

Enjoy clear, full center channel presentation with the Infinity Primus PC251.

Infinity's Primus PC251 center channel speaker ensures that you'll clearly hear all your song lyrics or movie dialogue — and at a price tag that won't leave your wallet empty. What's Infinity's secret? A combination of Metal Matrix Diaphragm® driver technology and a low-resonance enclosure. You'll hear sparkling high frequencies and detailed midrange at any volume level. So sit back, relax, and enjoy a listening experience that's more lifelike and involving.

High quality materials for long term performance

The Primus PC251 features Infinity's exclusive Metal Matrix Diaphragm ("MMD" for short) driver technology in both the 3/4" tweeter and the dual 5-1/4" woofers. These MMD drivers consist of a stiff aluminum core, anodized on both sides for increased strength and rigidity. The result is extremely fast, extremely accurate response, giving you distinctly cleaner, more realistic sound, even at higher volume levels.

Build your own Primus® system

The Infinity Primus PC251 will fill just about any room with dramatic and well-defined sound. Pair it with Infinity's P363 floor-standing speaker or P153 bookshelf speaker to create a stunning Primus home theater system. And don't forget to add the perfectly matched PS38 powered subwoofer to get deep, accurate bass in the mix.

Your home theater's most important speaker

The center channel speaker is the workhorse in a home theater system. It has to reproduce clear dialogue and special effects that keep your eyes and ears glued to the movie action. A high-quality center speaker is a great investment for any surround sound setup. Try to choose one that's as closely matched as possible to your front right and left speakers, so that as sound moves across the front stage, it stays seamlessly realistic.

Great replacement for my older Infinity Beta C250!

Written by: Rage from Cumming, GA on February 4, 2016

After *apparently* blowing the tweeter on my old Infinity Beta C250 center channel and the replacement part being a bit too expensive, I began looking for it's successor (after all, the previous speaker was manufactured in 2003!!!). I decided to stick with Infinity as I still have my trusty old Infinity Alpha 50's that have served me so well over the years and I wanted to maintain that seamless front soundstage for pans from one side through the center and to the other side. I decided on the Primus PC251 and it has really done the trick. The speaker is actually heavier and noticeably larger (both width and depth) than my previous speaker so be sure to measure first and while the grill is no longer metal but now a curved, wrapped grille cloth, the overall build quality of the speaker is very nice. Once it was installed in my system and all three speakers recalibrated with an SPL meter, the PC251 blended well with my fronts and sounded uniformly excellent given the price I paid. I have zero qualms about recommending it at it's current price point and even less so given the lower price I paid a few weeks ago. ***NOTE*** For those of you using banana plugs vs. bare wire - the red and black caps on the back speaker terminals can be VERY tricky to get off. After a few tries with a steak knife, I was able to pry them off exposing the banana plug connections.

Pros: Heft Build quality Value (excellent sound given the price)

Cons: None really aside from the minor issue with prying off the red/black caps mentioned in my review

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed this replacing my old much smaller center speaker. This new speaker makes movies at TV shows come alive. This speaker puts out clear sound, and a lot of it. Makes voices so much clearer, sounds great...... Pairs well with my built in wall speakers, brand unknown....

Pros: Great sound, easy to install

Cons: is a bit large make sure you have the space.

Would recommend

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This was a replacement of an older generation of the speaker. The prior was damaged in a household move. I have many different high end brand speakers throughout the home, most of which cost notably more than the Infinity. For what it's worth, I find these to be among the best in terms of sound quality for price.

Pros: Excellent value. Good cabinet finish.

Cons: Can't think of any.

Delicious

PC251 pairs very well with floor standing Infinity Beta 50 towers. Added the center channel to enhance dialog in steaming content and was not disappointed. Paired with a Denon S900W AVR, seamless calibration and connection. Simply put, the speaker sounds terrific.

Great In Home Theater

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have this PC251 Center Channel speaker, by design, pairs very well with my Primus 300 series floor standing Front Speakers and Primus 153 bookshelf speakers for surrounds. Since my room is only about 12'x22' in size - I didn't think the PC 300 series Center channel would be necessary. As I am not an audiophile, and did not individually test each speaker, my comments are based on the overall performance of the 7.1 Channel Infinity Primus speakers I put together.

It it's job beyond what I could ask. I've only heard it in concert with all 7.1 channels or at minimum "3.1" stereo with the my floor standing Speakers. Originally I had wanted to go with a Klipsche set up... but, I'm glad I didn't. The clarity in base (along w/ the Infinity 10" powered Sub) mids and highs is fantastic for movies and music. So far, I've used this mostly for Pandora streaming. I put this system together for our in-home theater which does very well with our 92" projection screen.

We watched the most recent version of Godzilla, and Taken 3 - on more than one occasion, I had to double check over my shoulder because when the speakers are paired together (also some credit due to my Pioneer Elite receiver) the sound effects are incredibly real. I think vocal tones sound very real, not overly flat, and not overly bass-y.

This (I am hoping) has to be one of the best speaker series for the $ that i have come across. I highly recommend it

Pros: - Size is reasonable - Looks good with and w/o grills - great vocal tones - versatile for movies and music

Cons: - None yet

Just installed this center speaker for a new home theater system in my basement. Small room with short ceilings but with my Denon receiver and Audyssey set-up this center speaker sounds great. Crisp sounds, clear dialogue and balances nicely with the surround speakers and subwoofer.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had missed the great audio days of the 70's. Recently I purchased a Yamaha RX-V477. I wanted to get speakers that would compliment that unit. The Infinity Primus P363 tower speakers, P153 bookshelf speakers, PC251 center speaker, and PS38 woofer are great. My music sounds great. Watched a movie with the family and felt like I was in the theater. Great speakers.

Pros: Sound reproduction is very good. Enclosures allow the sound to be natural.

Cons:

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Nice sound, and solid build for a good price. I have one of these both for my living room system, and my computer room system. These center channels sound great for their size, and provide great sound for a reasonable price. They take some break in time, so if they sound a little off out of the box, give them some time.

Pros: build quality price

Cons:

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This was purchased to replace an Infinity CS Video center speaker purchased 15 years ago. At the time, the CS cost over $300. Rather than replace the cones and foam of the old one, I chose to purchase a new one but decided not to spend as much money. The Infinity Primus PC251 has been a great purchase. Delivery was efficient and fast. Installation was 5 minutes, the sound is very good and the cost/quality value is excellent. I kept my old JBL L5 speakers (4) and my Cerwin Vega subwoofer and the new Primus fits right in. I would highly recommend this center speaker.

Pros: Great sound and reasonably priced.

Cons: The cabinet is a little large. If you have limited space, this one could be a challenge.

Driver Technology

Metal Matrix Diaphragm (M.M.D.): Derived from the C.M.M.D. material used in Infinity's flagship Cascade series, M.M.D. features a stiff aluminum core, anodized on both sides for increased strength and rigidity. M.M.D. transducers conduct sound faster than paper, polypropylene, and Kevlar, pushing unwanted resonances beyond the operating range of the transducer. M.M.D. drivers deliver crystal-clear, distortion-free sound from dynamic digital sources, even at high listening levels.

5-1/4" Woofers: The dual 5-1/4" M.M.D. cone woofers offer extremely accurate lower midrange response for cleaner, more realistic sound. For a smoother response and improved durability, the woofers use rubber surrounds.

3/4" Tweeter: The center channel speaker has a 3/4" M.M.D. dome tweeter that offers superior stiffness and damping compared to traditional metal domes.

Acoustical Waveguide: The PC251's tweeter utilizes an acoustical waveguide to deliver, more even high frequency response, no matter what part of the room you're in.

Precision Crossover: The center channel speaker features a 2-way crossover system with crossover frequency at 3000Hz. The crossover has a 24dB/octave slope.

Matching System: The PC251 is voice-matched to all the speakers in the Primus line, so a complete matching system can be built.

Magnetically Shielded: The Infinity Primus center channel loudspeaker is magnetically shielded for safe placement adjacent to your television.

Enclosure Design

Wood Grain Vinyl Cabinet: The Infinity PC251 features a black wood grain vinyl cabinet that matches almost any decor.

Acoustic Suspension Design: The Infinity center channel utilizes an acoustic suspension (sealed) enclosure for tight, accurate midbass performance.

Low Resonance Enclosure: The PC251 employs a extremely low resonance enclosure, so you hear the music exactly as it was recorded.

Grille: The speaker comes with a removable black cloth grille with a rigid plastic frame.

Connections

5-Way Binding Posts: The 5-way binding posts will accept bare wire, pin connectors, spade connectors, banana plugs, and dual banana plugs.

Color-Coded: The speaker's binding posts are color-coded (red/black) for easy identification between positive and negative.

Mounting Options

Wall Mounting: The center channel speaker has two keyhole slots in the upper left and right corners of the back panel. In addition, two non-skid rubber bumpers are attached in the lower corners so the speaker won't mar wall surfaces when the speaker is mounted.

Customer Q&A

Crutchfield asked
Why did you buy this?

Well, just purchased a pair of Infinity Primus P153, and I suspect they will match up very nicely with the P153 [ Barry  Jan 30, 2016 ]
Saw great rating on this speaker, thought I would replace me current speaker and give this a try. [ brian  Jan 15, 2016 ]

2 questions already asked

The cs-355 is the model I bought and returned because the usb input doesn't work with flash drives (thumb drive) as claimed. It treats all of the folders as one folder and not many folders with files as it claims in the operations manual. [ Ted  Feb 09, 2014 ]
You will want to contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat to discuss compatibility with your Alpha speakers. They can discuss voice matching, and other options if these are not a good match. [ Jeff  Jan 31, 2014 ]  Staff
Upgrading the center can result in better performance for a home theater (especially with dialogue). However, you will want to make sure the speakers are voice matched as close as possible. I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat to discuss in detail. [ Jeff  Jan 26, 2014 ]  Staff
