Our take on the Infinity Kappa Perfect 10.1

Got enough juice? Get an amp for your new sub The Infinity Kappa Perfect 10.1 10" subwoofer combines a rugged aluminum cone and high-roll butyl-rubber surround to produce slammin' bass all the way down to 18 Hz. The super-rigid woofer cone won't distort (even when you push it hard), but it's light and responsive for remarkably high sensitivity. That means it'll squeeze the most volume out of the power you feed it.

The massive cast-aluminum basket and the pole-piece are vented so the 4-layer voice coil stays cool, even when the music gets hot. Infinity has subjected these subs to the most intensive testing in the industry — 100 grueling hours of performance at their full RMS rating (350 watts).

The Perfect 10.1 bridges the gap between subs intended for SPL and those intended for sound quality, creating bass that hits hard and sounds great. Whether you're planning a competition system or just looking for powerful bass, this sub's ready for action.

Features
Enclosure Compatibility

Features

Curvilinear Aluminum Cone: The curvilinear aluminum cone is lightweight and extremely rigid for low distortion and superior bass response.

High-roll Butyl Surround: The high-roll butyl surround damps cone resonance and ensures longevity.

Cast-Aluminum Basket: The non-resonant cast aluminum basket ensures perfect alignment of the speaker's moving parts.

Flat Uniform-roll Spider: The spider design provides maximum control over cone motion at the limits of the speaker's excursion, and reduces even-order harmonic distortion compared to cupped spiders.

Vented Pole Piece: A flared, polished and vented pole piece is used to provide optimum cooling of the voice coil and minimize turbulence.

1.5" 4-layer Voice Coil and Stacked Magnets: The 1.5" 4-layer voice coil and stacked magnets provide high motor force and room for ultra-long excursion.

Gold-plated 5-way Binding Posts: The gold-plated 5-way binding posts will accept pin connectors, spade connectors, banana plugs, dual banana plugs, and bare wire.

Enclosure Compatibility

Recommended Sealed Box Volume: Infinity recommends a sealed enclosure with an internal volume of 0.6 cu/ft.

Recommended Ported Box Volume: Infinity recommends a ported enclosure with an internal volume of 1.0 cu/ft. One 3" diameter x 10.4" long port should be used with a 1.0 cu/ft enclosure.

Recommended Sealed Bandpass Box Volume: Infinity recommends a bandpass enclosure with an internal volume of 0.95 cu/ft. The 0.95 cu/ft enclosure should have a sealed chamber volume of 0.6 cu/ft and a ported chamber volume of 0.35 cu/ft. One 3" diameter x 10.04" long port should be used in the ported chamber.

Free-air Mounting: In addition to being compatible with sealed, ported and bandpass enclosures, the woofer can be used in free-air applications. A free-air subwoofer is designed to be mounted on a baffle board, which separates two areas of the vehicle. For instance, you could mount this woofer to a board attached to the rear deck or placed in the trunk against the rear seat. The trunk acts as the enclosure housing the subwoofer.

Excellent! Performed BEYOND 10" Expectations.

Written By Anonymous, Crescent City, FL on Tuesday, March 06, 2007

I have my Infinity Kappa Perfect 10.1 matched with a 800 watts D-class amp. It is wired at 2-ohms and is very clean and loud.

I have two enclosures I have tried the Kappa Perfect 10.1 with:

The first one is a Q-Logic 0.66 cu. ft. sealed wedge box. The sound quality is VERY TIGHT and responsive. When I listen to rock I love how loud and "punchy" the bass is.

The second enclosure I've tried the Kappa Perfect 10.1 in is a custom 1.5 cu. ft. 3" ported box I built. It perfectly matches the manufacture's recommendation for box size for a vented enclosure. When I listen to R&B and songs with more bass, it sounds to me like the bass is 2.5 times louder in the ported box than in the sealed box. However, it does lose some of it's "punchiness" due to the box being ported.

I highly recommend the Infinity Kappa Perfect 10.1 for anyone who wants a sleek, clean, and powerful 10" sub that performs beyond its expectations. It's peak is 1500 watts, and I am shocked with how great mine has functioned at only half of it's potential. I have had mine going on a year now and have had nothing but pleasure and satisfaction from it.

You will not be disapointed with these subs. i made two custom fiberglass boxes to fit in each rear door of my 03 ranger. i am running a kenwood 9152d (900 @ 2ohms) to power both and these things sound excellent. i listen more to rock so i like tight loud bass and these paired with a sealed box=excellent. i have no complaints except like one guy i wish they came with some mounting screws and had a cool grill cover for them. great deal.

Awesome Sub

Written By Andy, Sugar Grove, PA on Sunday, February 11, 2007

I've most recently had cheaper MTX and other subs, that sounded ok at best. I got a new truck and had to do a new system, so I decided to spend a couple more bucks and get some good subs. These Infinity's were well worth every penny. I have two 10.1s run by a Pioneer 780W amp. They are super clear, no distortion, and I'm sure they can handle twice the power they're getting. I bridged the amp to one sub, and it sounded great too. I chose the subs, in part, because they were going under the back seat of my extended cab Silverado, and had to be in very small enclosures. They ended up being smaller in volume than reccomended, but they sound great. Great sub for tight spots.

Infinity Kappa Perfect 10.1

Written By Matthew, Murrieta, CA on Tuesday, February 06, 2007

I have tried an Audiobahn 12" sub with unsatisfactory results.

I finally got rid of them and got these perfect 10's and am very pleased with the results. I have a mid-sized sedan, a sealed enclosure, and 400Watts running to one of these. Bass hits hard when listening to the right music some frequencies do not hit the inside of the car the way I would like them to, but I may be just too picky. These speakers are made to sound clean, NOT loud. Trust me they get loud enough to hurt your ears, but not loud enough for some people looking to disturb the neighbors. Small amount of noise from the speaker actually physically moving when I am very close to the front of the speaker, not sure if this is normal?

I have tried to include as much negative points as I can for this review, and I have had a hard time doing it. This sub still gets 5 stars!

These Subs Are Great

Written By Brandon, Keokuk, IA on Saturday, January 20, 2007

All I can say about these subs is WOW!!! I got them on the buy one get one free deal and these subs absolutely rock. I have them set up in a mtx box with a Profile ap2000 amp and they are so loud that my review mirror will not stay in the same position. Also they are crystal clear for clarity to which was very important to me. In other words you should get these subs.

AWESOME!

Great sounding sub just wish it came with mounting screws. By the way this sub will not fit in the MTX Thunderform box for a 2001 f150 without a little modification.

A giant in a small package

Written By Kamran, Reston, VA on Wednesday, January 10, 2007

I got the two-fer deal but I'm only using one. I was using an Infinity Perfect 12VQ that was a bit too big for my trunk because I have the amps and crossovers mounted upside down under the rear deck, so I had to scale down to a 10-inch. The sound is amazing -- I can't even tell the difference! This sub puts out such clean, tight and powerful bass you won't believe it. It's so good one is more than enough. The people that wrote negative reviews on this sub just didn't know what they were doing. SQ or SPL, this one's got you covered. I'm running it off an Alpine MRD-M605 400W nominal and it takes everything I give it. It definitely lives up to its name: PERFECT.

Just Plain Awesome

Written By randomnote1, Lebanon, PA on Friday, January 05, 2007

Ordinarily I would have bought a 12 inch speaker for my car, but I decided that my trunk room was extremely valuable and I couldn't lose it. So after some planning, I decided to go with 2 of these and put them in a custom fiberglass boxes that I am building. I've only got one completed so far, and it pounds!!! I can't believe how good just one 10 inch sub sounds! I can't wait to get the other one in and do the final tuning on my system. It just plain sounds good!
