Our take on the Infinity Kappa Perfect 12.1

Got enough juice? Get an amp for your new sub The Infinity Kappa Perfect 12.1 12" subwoofer joins together a rugged aluminum cone and high-roll butyl-rubber surround to produce impressive bass all the way down to 18 Hz. The ultra-rigid woofer cone won't distort (even when you push it to the max), but it's light and responsive for remarkably high sensitivity. That means it'll squeeze the most volume out of the power you feed it.

The massive cast-aluminum basket and the pole-piece are vented, so the 4-layer voice coil stays cool when the music gets hot. Infinity subjects these subs to the most intensive testing in the industry — 100 grueling hours of performance at their full RMS rating (350 watts).

The Perfect 12.1 bridges the gap between subs intended for SPL and those intended for sound quality, creating bass that hits hard and sounds great. Whether you're planning a competition system or just looking for powerful bass, this sub's ready for action.

Features
Enclosure Compatibility

Features

Curvilinear Aluminum Cone: The curvilinear aluminum cone is lightweight and extremely rigid for low distortion and superior bass response.

High-roll Butyl Surround: The high-roll butyl surround damps cone resonance and ensures longevity.

Cast-Aluminum Basket: The non-resonant cast aluminum basket ensures perfect alignment of the speaker's moving parts.

Flat Uniform-roll Spider: The spider design provides maximum control over cone motion at the limits of the speaker's excursion, and reduces even-order harmonic distortion compared to cupped spiders.

Vented Pole Piece: A flared, polished and vented pole piece is used to provide optimum cooling of the voice coil and minimize turbulence.

1.5" 4-layer Voice Coil and Stacked Magnets: The 1.5" 4-layer voice coil and stacked magnets provide high motor force and room for ultra-long excursion.

Gold-plated 5-way Binding Posts: The gold-plated 5-way binding posts will accept pin connectors, spade connectors, banana plugs, dual banana plugs, and bare wire.

Enclosure Compatibility

Recommended Sealed Box Volume: Infinity recommends a sealed enclosure with an internal volume of 1.0 cu/ft.

Recommended Ported Box Volume: Infinity recommends a ported enclosure with an internal volume of 1.75 cu/ft. One 4" diameter x 12.33" long port should be used with a 1.75 cu/ft enclosure.

Recommended Sealed Bandpass Box Volume: Infinity recommends a bandpass enclosure with an internal volume of 3.45 cu/ft. The 3.4 cu/ft enclosure should have a sealed chamber volume of 2.2 cu/ft and a ported chamber volume of 1.25 cu/ft. One 4" diameter x 10.7" long port should be used in the ported chamber.

Free-air Mounting: In addition to being compatible with sealed, ported and bandpass enclosures, the woofer can be used in free-air applications. A free-air subwoofer is designed to be mounted on a baffle board, which separates two areas of the vehicle. For instance, you could mount this woofer to a board attached to the rear deck or placed in the trunk against the rear seat. The trunk acts as the enclosure housing the subwoofer.

Still alive and kicking since 2005

Written By Andy N, Stanton, CA on Friday, November 11, 2011

Everyone thinks I have 2 12's in the back of my 4Runner when I only have one. I got the DVC version and added a terminal cup to my sealed box. Hooked it up to a Stereo amp with 350 RMS. The Kappa is at 375 RMS. I bought this back in 2005 and it still sounds as rich and deep as when I it was first broken in. If set up correctly, this thing works wonders. Roll down your windows and you'll annoy your neighbors.

Best of the best

Written By JC, Rapid City, SD on Tuesday, February 13, 2007

I have had many systems in my 1988 Bronco II, but this is hands down the best sub I've owned. My setup right now is my 1000W Kenwood Excelon Amp with 1 12, 1 Kicker CVR Dualcoil 12, and my 2 Infinity 12s. With this setup in a custom sealed box radiates some intense bass. But the infinites are the heart of it all. Under 1000W they'll be hearing you a block away. Both quality and quanity with these. Rockford doesn't hold a candle!

The perfect pair of subs

Written By Mark, Plymouth, MI on Saturday, February 03, 2007

I bought two of the 12.1's for my Eclipse Spyder. I have them in a dual 1.25 ft3 sealed enclosure which takes up every last bit of trunk space. When the volume is turned up the canvas top puffs in and out to the bass and its clearly visible from outside the car. I'm powering them with an MTX 81000D which is too much power but I havent blown them yet. I have heard a wide range of subwoofers from Rockford 12's to MTX 15's and Perfects while not louder than the 15's sounded much cleaner. If you can get these 2 for 1 then they are an awsome value. Even at full price they are reasonable.

...and I can still hear my music

Written By nic, Jay, ME on Thursday, February 01, 2007

I have one of these in a basic sealed enclosure with a two channel power acoustic amp. This is my second setup, with my first being a powered bazooka tube. This is way better. I don't know how it would be in a vented enclosure and i don't care because i hate them. Sealed is the way to go. The sound quality is very good if not amazing, and the loudness is perfect in relation to the interior speakers. If you actually care about what your music sounds like, i highly suggest this sub; if your only interest is attracting attention from OUTside your car, well.... just get a second one and put them in a vented enclosure, but then the inside sounds retarded and gives you headaches. And to add to the great sound, it is clearly a high quality constructed speaker. Very nice surround, I love that high roll rubber. Buy It!

Bang for the buck

Written By Aaron, Phoenix, AZ on Monday, January 29, 2007

I purchased two Infinity Kappa Perfects about a month ago and very pleased with the way they perform. When the subs hit they hit hard and clean. Ive had tests with various "bass" cd's and they've never missed a beat! Every hit was precise, and for the price you cant get a better buy.
