Got enough juice? Get an amp for your new sub The Infinity Kappa Perfect 12.1 12" subwoofer joins together a rugged aluminum cone and high-roll butyl-rubber surround to produce impressive bass all the way down to 18 Hz. The ultra-rigid woofer cone won't distort (even when you push it to the max), but it's light and responsive for remarkably high sensitivity. That means it'll squeeze the most volume out of the power you feed it.

The massive cast-aluminum basket and the pole-piece are vented, so the 4-layer voice coil stays cool when the music gets hot. Infinity subjects these subs to the most intensive testing in the industry — 100 grueling hours of performance at their full RMS rating (350 watts).

The Perfect 12.1 bridges the gap between subs intended for SPL and those intended for sound quality, creating bass that hits hard and sounds great. Whether you're planning a competition system or just looking for powerful bass, this sub's ready for action.

  • 12" 4-ohm subwoofer
  • aluminum cone with high-roll butyl-rubber surround

Priced per speaker

What's a component sub and why would I want one?

A component sub is simply a speaker that's designed to reproduce bass once it's installed in a compatible enclosure. Think about the impact of a movie soundtrack in a big theater or even in your own home HDTV setup. A component sub can add the same kind of power to the music in your car. And a car sub is not all about the boom that you hear on a street corner (although that's cool too) - you can pair a component sub with your choice of enclosure to get bass just the way you like it, from tight and punchy to fat and loose. And once you experience music in your car with a well-tuned subwoofer, you'll never go back.

Replaced Kappy 12" with a JLW6v2. Ran JL for about 5 years and thought that it was the best untill its foam surround ripped. I reinstalled Kappa in same ported box. Infinity sounds just as good as the $350 JL, even at 4ohms. Kappa is at least 9 years old and sounds as good as new.

Pros: Cost, build quality, real RMS and MAX power numbers, long life. In a ported box it will vibrate your neighbors.

Cons: Aluminum cone is easy bent

I really think this is the best sub ever made. It can handle unbelievable amounts of power but doesn't need much. It has a remarkable build quality which allows it to sound very musical whyle still thumping in your chest. OUTSTANDING subwoofer wish they still built them to this quality!!!!!

Pros: Is a Musical Sub Highest sensitiveity on a Subwoofer I've ever seen Can handle huge amounts of power (but doesn't need much) Built to last (I've had mine over 8 years)

Cons: None

Everyone thinks I have 2 12's in the back of my 4Runner when I only have one. I got the DVC version and added a terminal cup to my sealed box. Hooked it up to a Stereo amp with 350 RMS. The Kappa is at 375 RMS. I bought this back in 2005 and it still sounds as rich and deep as when I it was first broken in. If set up correctly, this thing works wonders. Roll down your windows and you'll annoy your neighbors.

Best of the best

I have had many systems in my 1988 Bronco II, but this is hands down the best sub I've owned. My setup right now is my 1000W Kenwood Excelon Amp with 1 12, 1 Kicker CVR Dualcoil 12, and my 2 Infinity 12s. With this setup in a custom sealed box radiates some intense bass. But the infinites are the heart of it all. Under 1000W they'll be hearing you a block away. Both quality and quanity with these. Rockford doesn't hold a candle!

The perfect pair of subs

I bought two of the 12.1's for my Eclipse Spyder. I have them in a dual 1.25 ft3 sealed enclosure which takes up every last bit of trunk space. When the volume is turned up the canvas top puffs in and out to the bass and its clearly visible from outside the car. I'm powering them with an MTX 81000D which is too much power but I havent blown them yet. I have heard a wide range of subwoofers from Rockford 12's to MTX 15's and Perfects while not louder than the 15's sounded much cleaner. If you can get these 2 for 1 then they are an awsome value. Even at full price they are reasonable.

...and I can still hear my music

Written By nic, Jay, ME on Thursday, February 01, 2007

I have one of these in a basic sealed enclosure with a two channel power acoustic amp. This is my second setup, with my first being a powered bazooka tube. This is way better. I don't know how it would be in a vented enclosure and i don't care because i hate them. Sealed is the way to go. The sound quality is very good if not amazing, and the loudness is perfect in relation to the interior speakers. If you actually care about what your music sounds like, i highly suggest this sub; if your only interest is attracting attention from OUTside your car, well.... just get a second one and put them in a vented enclosure, but then the inside sounds retarded and gives you headaches. And to add to the great sound, it is clearly a high quality constructed speaker. Very nice surround, I love that high roll rubber. Buy It!

Picked up 2 on sale and built a 2 cu/ft box out of MSD plyboard and powered by a 920 watt kenwood and theses things BEAT. They're sitting in the backseat of a Explorer Sport Trac and they sound excellent. They bottom out a little but not enough to change the sound outside. Hit very clean and very hard. A very good buy.

Infinity Kappa Perfect 12.1 and the Kenwood KAC-9102D are a match made in heven. I also needed an amp that would compliment the sub and good old kenwood had th eperfect amp. These subs creat such wonderful bass, not the kind that makes ou sick, or give you a pounding head aches for hours but the kind that is rich with clarity, with smoothness that is refreshing, it make syou want to listen to it louder and louder. No matter what music I through at them the delivered, from rap, classical, newage, and vocals you name it. Just get them you will not regrete them, and turn them up when you get them.

I was looking for a system to install in my 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee and I called crutchfield. I talked to Lucy and she told me that this sub was great and how could I complain about the price. I have it hooked up to a Audiobahn 375 watt mono amp. The subs hit great on both highs and lows. If you have a Jeep and it has a amp in it you have to run wires from the cars amp to the head unit so that it will turn on. The customer service was great. I would suggest that if you call in ask for Lucy she knew what she was talking about and got me a great system at a great price!

Thanks Crutchfield

absalute BASS and CRISP sound

Written By roscoe, St. Helen, MI on Saturday, November 25, 2006

Let me start by saying that ive been into car audio since 1998 and ive had a lot of different set ups. I bought a couple of these perfect 12's over the summer and they r really nice. I installed them in my 01 silverado reg cab with the Q logic truck boxes. I run them with a JL 500/1 and they r very loud and clean especially on very low notes. They hit the entire scale though and sound almost hollow or ghostly on the high notes. They make ur ears wet. If u try to run too much bass they will pop and distort but when used as they should be they r awesome. Like i said ive been bumpin since 1998 and i remember when these speakers were around three hundred bucks a piece. The sub these remind me of is the old round solo baric as far as build quality and power handling. I would say these sound better though and r probobly the best sub crutchfied has unless u want to ruin ur ears with thousands of watts. Almost perfect subs, awesome

I bought these subwoofers for the extended cab of my 1998 Ford Ranger. I have them running with an Alpine MRD-M605 600Watt amplifier and I could not be happier. I was looking for subs that could give me the perfect blend of bump when I wanted it, but also sound good with alternative, and different types of rock. For the price, these subs are unbeatable. I could not be happier with my purchase. I threw together an excellent system for only $1500 and it sounds great. I highly recommend these subs if you are like me and you want bump when you need it, but not your other stuff drowned out.

I have the sub in a Q-Logic QLH-1.7512SS ported. This sub play great for any type of music. I listen to rap, reggae, trance, and most types of music. Its great for the price and hits super hard. Its a great sub for the price and is my first and must say it is Awesome!

Stellar performance from a great value!

I have one 12" 12.1 infinity kappa perfect in a 1.25 cubic ft rear-firing sealed box with a 1" layer of poly-fill. I am running 700 watts rms and 1440 peak to it via a US Acoustics 800F amp bridged and a 20 farad tsunami capacitor. I have heard quite a few different subs in my day, and I have never experienced a sub with such sonic accuracy. I enjoy all types of music, and this usually creates a problem with most subs. Either they can't handle the sustained deep bass from classical music or can't keep up with the kick drum from speed metal. This sub plays clearly no matter what I throw at it. I can't wait to get another one!

These r the loudest cleanest nicest subs ive ever owned. Ive got 2 of these running off of a Infinity Ref. 611a mono amp (657 RMS @ 2 ohms... 456 RMS @ 4 ohms) with 4 guage power wire/ground wire and a 2 farad compacitor. The subs r in a 1.25 cubic ft (per sub) sealed box in the back of my Explorer. And these things r LOUD. Ive only had um for a week... and they r not even broken it yet but dude they r LOUD and EXTREMELY CLEAR. Beats all of my friends sub systems in both clarity and loudness. Subs could easily out-perform subs that cost twice as much. After hearing these... im soon going to purchase 2 pairs of Kappa speakers and get a Infinity 4 channel amp to run to them... Its gonna be LOUD.

Highly recommened :)

Great Subs!

Written By Manu, OB,FL on Saturday, August 26, 2006

These subs were an upgrade from the reference series I had previously blown after constant use. These positively hit harder but require a bit more power. I have a Kenwood deck w/ a 500 RMS 2 Ohm Profile amp and a 1 farad cap setup. The Kappa Perfects make my truck battery dip a lot under heavy usage unlike the previous references. The references are really good but these Kappa Perfects are great and you can't beat the warrantee.

I have 3 of these in my car and while there are more louder subs out there for more money these subs produce very tight, accurate, clean bass. I believe they can handle more power then Infinity says they can handle I have taken them to their max rms and beyond and they handle it no problem. I have had Crunch, Rockford, Kicker and many more and these are right up there in the running. If you want clean tight accurate bass then these are the subs for you.

i've had these subs for a couple months now, and have loved every minute of it. i was skeptical when i saw that they were more of a SQ sub rather than an SPL sub, but all my concerns were RIGHT out the window, this sub is LOUD and gets loud with very few watts. im running them in a (me built) 1.27^3 sealed chamber(each) and have beaten out systems pushing 6x my watts. HIGHLY recomend this sub to ANYONE wanting a hybrid sub of SQ and SPL.

Phenomenal service from Crutfield on this one. I have my Perfect 12.1 in a Scosche EFX sealed box and it sounds amazing in my Explorer. The other thing I love is how little space it takes up in my cargo area compared to the amount and range of bass I am getting from it. I have it hooked to the bridged rear channel of an Infinity 7541a amp with 12 ga speaker wire.

I ordered two of these off Crutchfield and they had 1 in stock so they sent me that one and backordered another. They told me it would ship early July. I received it on June 23, coincidentaly my birthday. Best gift i got by far. The first thing you notice after taking them out of the box is the build quality. props 2 the guys @ Infinity, a truly beautifully constructed sub. Cleanest ones out there IMO. Put them in my ported 1.65 cf each box with 12 oz. of polyfill in each side. Powered by my Polk/MOMO C500.1 (500w @ 2 ohms) they are already hitting pretty hard and the sq is ridiculous on reggae, hip-hop and classic rock. I had that amp for my old 10's and i need a new bigger amp because me and the subs are begging for it.

Alright, i got the subs in a sealed box with 1.25 cubic ft. airspace in each chamber. i'm running an alpine mrd-605. this amp tested at 662 rms in 2 ohms, i've got 4 guage RF comp. wire and an optima yellow-top, and of course a dynamat trunk, and let me tell you, this setup is the best i have had and blows away most! actually i haven't heard anything better yet! i've got 4 alpine type S speakers, 6 1/2" and the alpine CDA-9851 head unit. i turn it up to 18 out of 35 and you feel the pressure of the bass pushing on your ears. my rear-view vibrates so bad after one hit of bass i'm staring at my backseats. i stop at a stoplight and everyone else's rear-view's shakes froma bout 50 feet away. these baby's are insane!!! and talk about quality, i know systems, and designs these are the best i've seen yet!! durable, heat-reducing, and they handle anything you throw at them, turn up ur bass lower and louder, they just ask for more!!

of course you should already know this if you know alpine and infinity products!

I have 2 of the 12.1's in a sealed box in an escort wagon powered by a massive audio p1000.1 running at 2 ohms getting approx. 270 watts each. They are in my opinion the best all around sounding sub I've heard, tight accurate bass, low too. There are louder subs out there, but most are muddy and lack accuracy. You hear ALL the lows and they are defined with these puppies. I've had kicker comp 10 and 12 , polk ex 10 , orion xtr 12, alpine type s 12 and there is no comparison.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased 2 of these subs over a year ago to replace the old Kappa green cone subs I had. I tried some other manufacturers at first, but no other could match the Infinity sound, nor handle the power, they just cost more! I currently use an MTX 1500 watt mono amp to drive the Kappa Perfect subs in a 2.25 cuft total ported enclosure (you'll have to play around with port tuning in an enclosure this small depending on your vehicles interior size). They are wired in parallel for 2 ohms (single voice coils) I've driven these subs to there full potential and beyond, without any problems (with a 20hz subsonic filter). They don't loosen up or loose control even after repeated torture! These subs are far superior to the last generation sub, and they are very friendly with rap and metal music (the can play hard and low no problem). I'm still using the same subs I purchased over a year ago. The suspension is still stiff, and there is no fading or cracking of the cone or surround. This proves that price does not dictate quality, only the product in question can. I hope this can help you !

Simply Amazing!

When I recieved this sub and looked at it for the first time, I said "Wow!" It looks very awesome and is great quality. The aluminum cone is very strong and the rubber surround is very strong as well. When I mounted it into a 1.0cf enclosure I built with 1 inch polyfill on the walls and then juiced it up with 225 watts from a Profile AP1040, the sound I heard was unbelievable! This sub put out an intense amount of bass. The bass was extremely clear and accurate. Overall, I am very happy with this sub and reccomend it highly.

I replaced a smaller JL Audio sub with this one in a larger 1.75 box. It is powered by a 280 watt MTX Thunder amp. At first, I thought I would want to take the port out of the box. 15 minutes later, after fearing for the glass in my truck, I re-sealed the box. It produces very tight, controlled, and seemingly limitless bass. I have had JL audio subs and Bazookas before. This was a huge improvement!!

It is housed in a 1.75 cf slot vented enclosure. The sub is built very well. It has a very large spider and magnet assy. Out of at least 50 subs I have tested, this is definatly the cleanest and lowest playing sub I have ever heard. Enjoy!

I've had this subwoofer since last Christmas and it hasn't failed me yet. Once it was broken in, it hit as hard and as precise as any other comprable subwoofer. My friend had an R12 and it broke within a year, while my Perfect has yet to show any sign of slowing down. It is good for any type of music, rap, rock, etc, and I would personally recomend it to anyone in the market for a QUALITY 12 inch subwoofer.

I had this sub for a year until it got stolen and it was the most quality sub Ive ever heard with no distortion at high volumes, great sub!

Enclosure Compatibility

Curvilinear Aluminum Cone: The curvilinear aluminum cone is lightweight and extremely rigid for low distortion and superior bass response.

High-roll Butyl Surround: The high-roll butyl surround damps cone resonance and ensures longevity.

Cast-Aluminum Basket: The non-resonant cast aluminum basket ensures perfect alignment of the speaker's moving parts.

Flat Uniform-roll Spider: The spider design provides maximum control over cone motion at the limits of the speaker's excursion, and reduces even-order harmonic distortion compared to cupped spiders.

Vented Pole Piece: A flared, polished and vented pole piece is used to provide optimum cooling of the voice coil and minimize turbulence.

1.5" 4-layer Voice Coil and Stacked Magnets: The 1.5" 4-layer voice coil and stacked magnets provide high motor force and room for ultra-long excursion.

Gold-plated 5-way Binding Posts: The gold-plated 5-way binding posts will accept pin connectors, spade connectors, banana plugs, dual banana plugs, and bare wire.

Enclosure Compatibility

Recommended Sealed Box Volume: Infinity recommends a sealed enclosure with an internal volume of 1.0 cu/ft.

Recommended Ported Box Volume: Infinity recommends a ported enclosure with an internal volume of 1.75 cu/ft. One 4" diameter x 12.33" long port should be used with a 1.75 cu/ft enclosure.

Recommended Sealed Bandpass Box Volume: Infinity recommends a bandpass enclosure with an internal volume of 3.45 cu/ft. The 3.4 cu/ft enclosure should have a sealed chamber volume of 2.2 cu/ft and a ported chamber volume of 1.25 cu/ft. One 4" diameter x 10.7" long port should be used in the ported chamber.

Free-air Mounting: In addition to being compatible with sealed, ported and bandpass enclosures, the woofer can be used in free-air applications. A free-air subwoofer is designed to be mounted on a baffle board, which separates two areas of the vehicle. For instance, you could mount this woofer to a board attached to the rear deck or placed in the trunk against the rear seat. The trunk acts as the enclosure housing the subwoofer.
