High-tech CMMD™ drivers for exhilarating performance

Infinity Reference R152

Infinity Reference speakers owe their open, natural sound to Infinity's patented Ceramic Metal Matrix Diaphragm driver material. CMMD combines layers of ceramic with a stiff metal core for crystal-clear sonic performance. It's strong and durable, yet incredibly lightweight and responsive to the audio signal, providing the accuracy needed to hear your music just the way it was recorded.

The R162s' 1" CMMD dome tweeters deliver crisp, sparkling highs. Their Advanced Waveguide design provides better high-frequency dispersion for smooth, seamless sound across a wide listening area. You'll enjoy outstanding clarity and definition, even when listening in a less than an optimal location.

The speakers' tight, responsive bass and dynamic midrange come courtesy of Infinity's 6-1/2" CMMD high-output woofers and tuned-port enclosures. Infinity carefully computer-optimized the crossover networks, as well as each driver's position within the cabinet to ensure the most  precise, natural, and stable imaging and soundstaging possible.

Infinity Reference system

Build a complete Reference system

The Infinity Reference R162s will fill just about any room with rich and well-defined sound. Use a pair to create a high-quality stereo system, or use them with Infinity's RC263 center channel speaker and RS152 surround channel speakers  to create a stunning Reference home theater system. And don't forget to add the perfectly matched Reference SUB R10 powered subwoofer to get deep, accurate bass in the mix.

Features

2-Way Speaker Design: The Infinity Reference series R162 bookshelf loudspeaker utilizes a two-way speaker design with a single 1" CMMD tweeter that features an advanced image control waveguide and one 6.5" CMMD high-output woofer for natural, balanced sound.

Advanced Image Control Waveguide: The R162's tweeter utilizes an advanced image control waveguide to deliver, more even high frequency response, no matter what part of the room you're in. The unique geometry of this waveguide delivers remarkable high frequency detail, imaging, and natural balance at nearly any listening position in a broad range of acoustic environments.

CMMD Technology: Infinity utilizes Ceramic Metal Matrix Diaphragm (CMMD) technology in the tweeter and woofer that is much stiffer with more damping than standard metal speaker diaphragms.

  • For the tweeter, CMMD technology offers superior stiffness and damping compared to traditional metal domes, that provides a significant boost to the high frequency range.
  • For the woofer, CMMD offers exceptional pistonic operation over the entire usable range of the driver, completely eliminating unwanted coloration and distortion of the sound.

Bass Reflex Cabinet: The Infinity Reference series bookshelf loudspeaker utilizes a bass reflex enclosure with a rear-firing port for greater efficiency and bigger bass response. The Infinity 162 employs a extremely low resonance enclosure, so you hear the music exactly as it was intended. The R162 features a black wood grain vinyl cabinet that matches almost any decor. The speaker comes with a removable black cloth grille with a rigid plastic frame.

Binding Posts: The 5-way binding posts will accept bare wire, pin connectors, spade connectors, banana plugs, and dual banana plugs. The speaker's binding posts are color-coded (red/black) for easy identification between positive and negative.

Mounting Options: The Infinity R162 comes with four self-adhesive rubber feet for each speaker to help secure them in place to prevent slippage and vibration. The rubber feet add approximately 0.1875" to the overall height of the speaker. There are no threaded inserts or keyhole slots on the back panel of the speaker for wall-mounting. However, you can use the optional PinPoint heavy duty side-grip wall-mounting bracket system (121AM40B, sold separately) to wall mount the speakers.

Placement: For best results, place the speakers 6' to 8' apart and angle each speaker toward the listening position. Position each speaker so that the tweeter is approximately at ear level. Generally, bass output will increase as the speakers are moved closer to a wall or corner.

Customer Q&A

3 questions already asked

Q
Has anyone tried these Infinity's in a bookshelf?? I was wondering how this will affect the sound since the port is on the rear of the speaker.
steven di  Nov 11, 2015
1 answer
A
The worst place to put a rear-ported bookshelf speaker is . . . on a bookshelf, right on top of a wall. Typically, you want at least 24 inches between a back-ported speaker and the wall behind it. But tastes vary, so experimentation with speaker placement is worth your while. But instead of music, play someone's speaking voice, say, your favorite newscaster, actor or actress, delivering their lines with as little reverb as possible. If possible A/B the two speaker stereo sound with that of a single center speaker. Now issues of early reflections, imaging, etc. will be much easier to hear.

Are these speakers blue tooth?

Q
What is depth of Infinity R162 with grille detached? My speakers will go behind a cabinet door with grille cloth...therefore depth is critical.

A
eleven and three sixteenths inches

Mine are just about 11 3/16" deep without the grill. Even with the grill they appear to be under 12" deep.
g.  Jul 17, 2015
A
I removed the Grille and it measures to 11 1/4 inches
