High-tech CMMD™ drivers for exhilarating performance

Infinity Reference speakers owe their open, natural sound to Infinity's patented Ceramic Metal Matrix Diaphragm driver material. CMMD combines layers of ceramic with a stiff metal core for crystal-clear sonic performance. It's strong and durable, yet incredibly lightweight and responsive to the audio signal, providing the accuracy needed to hear your music just the way it was recorded.

The R263's 1" CMMD dome tweeter delivers crisp, sparkling treble. Its Advanced Waveguide design provides better high-frequency dispersion for smooth, seamless sound across a wide listening area. You'll enjoy outstanding clarity and definition, even when listening in a less than an optimal location.

Infinity Reference R263 tower speaker

The Reference R263 tower's well-braced cabinet, plus computer-optimized driver placement and crossover network ensure lifelike, room-filling sound.

A 5-1/4" flat-piston CMMD midrange supplies the speaker's critical mid- and high-frequency sounds. Its unique flat design reduces sound diffraction to improve vocal and dialogue intelligibility. A dedicated sub-enclosure around the driver eliminates any interaction with the woofers, further enhancing midrange clarity.

The speaker's potent bass response comes courtesy of two 6-1/2" CMMD high-output woofers in a tuned-port enclosure. Infinity carefully computer-optimized the crossover network, as well as each driver's position within the cabinet to ensure the most  precise, natural, and stable imaging and soundstaging possible.

Build a complete Reference system

The Infinity Reference R263s will fill just about any room with powerful, well-defined sound. Use a pair to create a high-quality stereo system, or use them with Infinity's RC263 center channel speaker and RS152 surround channel speakers to create a stunning Reference home theater system. And don't forget to add the perfectly matched Reference SUB R12 powered subwoofer to get deep, accurate bass in the mix.

Praise for the Infinity R263 floor-standing speakers from Home Theater Review.com

'"Boy, do these things have detail, subtlety, and air,"' I wrote in my lab notebook”. …The acoustic guitar, upright bass, and drums were wonderfully portrayed, stretching wide across the stereo soundstage and sounding incredibly detailed, but not in any way hyped or exaggerated. Every little scrape of Lage's virtuosic picking and every little acoustic subtlety of his ultra-fancy Manzer archtop came through, in a way I hadn't noticed before with the other speakers and headphones I've played this recording through. …The mids and highs of the R263 are the cleanest I've heard from a tower speaker below, let's say, $2,000 (and probably even higher). …If you're a devoted audiophile who's looking for an affordable tower speaker, I'd say look no further. Product Research

Features

3-Way Speaker Design: The Infinity Reference series R263 floor-standing loudspeaker utilizes a three-way speaker design with a 1" CMMD tweeter that features an advanced image control waveguide, a 5.25" CMMD low-diffraction midrange driver, and two 6.5" CMMD high-output woofers for natural, balanced, and intelligible sound.

Advanced Image Control Waveguide: The R263's tweeter utilizes an advanced image control waveguide to deliver, more even high frequency response, no matter what part of the room you're in. The unique geometry of this waveguide delivers remarkable high frequency detail, imaging, and natural balance at nearly any listening position in a broad range of acoustic environments.

CMMD Technology: Infinity utilizes Ceramic Metal Matrix Diaphragm (CMMD) technology in the tweeter, midrange, and woofers that is much stiffer with more damping than standard metal speaker diaphragms.

  • For the tweeter, CMMD technology offers superior stiffness and damping compared to traditional metal domes, that provides a significant boost to the high frequency range.
  • For the midrange and woofers, CMMD offers exceptional pistonic operation over the entire usable range of the driver, completely eliminating unwanted coloration and distortion of the sound.

Low-Diffraction Midrange: The tower speaker's low-diffraction midrange driver reduces sound diffraction and provides better vocals with greater dialog intelligibility.

Bass Reflex Cabinet: The Infinity Reference series tower loudspeaker utilizes a bass reflex enclosure with a rear-firing port for greater efficiency and bigger bass response. The Infinity R263 employs a extremely low resonance enclosure, so you hear the music exactly as it was intended. The R263 features a black wood grain vinyl cabinet that matches almost any decor. The speaker comes with a removable black cloth grille with a rigid plastic frame.

Dual Binding Posts: The Infinity Reference series floor-standing speaker features dual 5-way, gold-plated binding posts that can accept bare wire (up to 8AWG), spade-lugs, pin-connectors, and banana plugs (single or dual). The two sets of binding posts are shorted together by gold-plated jumpers. With the jumpers removed the R263 can be bi-wired or bi-amplified.

Rubber & Spiked Feet: The Infinity R263 floor-standing speaker features integrated rubber feet and comes with additional spiked feet. The rubber feet should be used on hardwood and tiles floors, while the spikes should be used on carpeted flooring. The spiked feet thread into the bottom of the integrated rubber feet of the speaker. The spiked feet add approximately 0.4375" to the height of the speaker.

Placement: For best results, place the speakers 6' to 8' apart and angle each speaker toward the listening position. Position each speaker so that the tweeter is approximately at ear level. Generally, bass output will increase as the speakers are moved closer to a wall or corner.

Customer Q&A

Q
I have a Yamaha Aventage Rx-A 1050. I notice these Infinities are rated @ a 6 ohm impedance! Would that be dangerous for my Aventage which is rated @ 110 watts?

A
It is not a problem at all. I am running them on my Yamaha Aventage RX A2040 and they work great. The 6 ohms just makes them a little more efficient. Let me know if you have any other questions.
chuck  Nov 05, 2015
A
That receiver does support 6 ohm speakers but you have to change a parameter. See the section in the manual titled "setting the speaker impedance"
james  Nov 05, 2015
Q
How many watts rms are they?
suzy  Jun 01, 2015

A
These speakers are rated for 20-200 Watts RMS.
