Infinity Reference X REF-3002cfx

Designed for more clarity

Do you want to hear the details you've been missing in your car's sound system? You'll enjoy exceptional clarity from Infinity's Reference X Series REF-3002cfx 3-1/2" speakers. Infinity uses PEI balanced dome tweeters to bring out all the details in your music without sounding harsh.

Larger woofer for fuller sound

The REF-3002cfx features tough polypropylene woofers and durable hi-roll rubber surrounds that deliver strong performance. Each Plus One+ woofer sports a significantly larger cone than speakers of similar size, adding plenty of punch to the speaker's smooth and accurate highs.

Great for any power supply

You can power these speakers with up to 25 watts of RMS power — they'll work great with an external amplifier, but they're also a good match for a factory or aftermarket stereo. Plus, Infinity comes up with a safe way to get a little more power out of your system — these 3-ohm speakers combine with the speaker wire in your vehicle so your car stereo sees actual 4-ohm impedance. Grilles are not included — factory grilles are appropriate for most installations.

Sounds great with RetroSound stereo.

1984 Mercedes-Benz 380SL

Crutchfield recommended this speaker for my car, but it Doesn't Fit because (1) the speaker's diameter was too small (2) which made the speaker holes too short to secure the speakers into the vehicle without drilling to the metal. I requested a return shipping. So now, I'm out for a return shipping charge. If you have a classic SL Mercedes-Benz (450SL, 380SL and 560SL), don't trust Crutchfield's recommendation. Go with a 4" speaker with 4 holes and not 2 holes securing feature.

Pros:

Cons: Too small to fit into a classic SL Mercedes

2010 Toyota 4Runner
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers are a major upgrade for my '10 4Runner Trail dash speakers. Just replacing these and using the bass blockers made the audio system actually sound really good with clear, crisp highs, better midrange, and a lot more bass. Highly recommend these for the price.

Pros: They fit with some modification to OEM bracket. Provide great sound.

Cons: Not plug-n-play because of how the Toyota harness is configured. Not speaker's fault. Had to use plug off factory speaker and wired it to the new speakers so I did not have to cut vehicle harness.

2004 Lexus RX330
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Simply put, the sound quality is absolutely incredible, especially considering their size and location (upper corners of the dash). For $54, they are a steal. I did have quite a challenge installing them in my 2004 Lexus RX330. The factory speakers they replaced had a much smaller magnet and were shorter. These Infinity speakers just barely squeezed in between the windshield and the edge of the speaker opening. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't get them in the right position to reinstall the factory screws. To that end, I used some sticky Velcro on the tabs and pressed them in place where they felt the most comfortable. The factory grill covers just barely fit and needed to be carefully pressed down in place. Even though the snug fit and the sticky Velcro left little chance of movement, the tight-fitting grill covers made certain nothing was going to move, shake, buzz or rattle. Let me just tell you, these speakers, combined with some basic Crutchfield upgrades for the 4 doors left me dumbfounded. I can't believe how amazing the factory stereo system sounds now, all for under $135 total.

Pros: Sound quality like you wouldn't believe.

Cons: Very tight fit for my 2004 Lexus RX330, but worth the time it took to get them installed.

Was looking to upgrade front soundstage and getting better high+ mid in front without big investment or to much modification to the stock premium audio setup in my lexus 2015 ct , these speakers are really good replacement for the front dash location and show good improvement in quality of audio

Pros: Nice upgrade to factory oem setup, good quality construction

Cons: I wish Crutchfield had the connector for OEM direct connection, I had to "dremmel" out the ones from original speakers.

I used these speakers to replace the dash speakers in my 2010 Dodge Ram with Alpine system. I was hoping these speakers would produce crisper mid to high frequencies, and I am happy with the results. I also unplugged my center dash speaker, and now I can hear separation from the right and left channels and almost a surround sound effect.

Pros: Inexpensive upgrade Easy to install Crisp mid-high frequencies

I installed a pair of these in the front of a 1966 Chevy Impala. They are power with Kenwood amplifier putting out about 50 watts to each speaker. They are very clean sounding and have a great sound-stage. You can crank them up and the sound doesn't break up. I highly recommend these speakers.

Pros: Great Sounding, Great Sound-Stage, Reasonably Priced

Cons:

Excellent for C5 Corvette Front Doors

Written by: The Hoff from Los Angeles on December 9, 2015

Excellent 2-way speaker replacement for the paper mid-range speaker built into the Bose units in the front doors of C5 Corvettes ('97-'04). Sound quality is excellent, especially compared to the paper drivers that Bose used from the factory. If you are installing in a Corvette, you will need to rotate the speaker some to find the correct position were you will get sufficient clearance for the wiring terminals. Only complaint is that the male spade terminals Infinity used on these speakers are incredibly thin and fragile and you may have to pinch the female terminal on your wiring harness, with pliers, to get it to grip the terminal tight enough. But be careful not to crush the female terminal.

Pros: Excellent sound quality. Enormous improvement over factory front door mid-range driver in C5 Corvettes.

Cons: Thin and fragile terminals. Projection of tweeter may create clearance issues for some vehicles (not an issue for Corvette)

Installed in the front dash of my Challenger with 6 speaker system. I like these speakers, they are well made and of good quality. I cant say they produce a great bass because the challenger I mounted them in only source Mids and Highs to these. but I would suspect they would be excellent at the lower end for their size.

Pros: well made, easy to install

Cons: none so far.

Did not fit my 1984 Monte carlo ss dash. The stock grill would not go over the tweeter and fit on the dash cut outs for speakers. Did not even get to hear them. Was shipped quickly and was boxed great and still boxed up. Wound up using a set of alpines I found that I didn't know I had they sound great. So now I have a set of speakers I can't use.

Pros: Look good

Cons: don't fit a 1984 Monte Carlo SS after being recommended by Crutchfield Tech.

2014 Ram 1500
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have a 2014 Dodge ram with Alpine performance sound system. Over all i am happy with the system. I only wanted to change out the 3 dash speakers to improve the highs a little bit. The factory Alpine amp channels are 2 ohm impedence so I was looking for speakers that would work well with the factory amp and not suffer significant volume loss. I chose between these and JBL speakers as they were the only ones available at less than 4 ohms. These fit perfectly in the factory locations with no modifications needed. The supplied wire harnesses made installation very easy. The speakers perform as expected based on the other reviews I read. Nice sound at low and full volume.

Pros: Great fit in factory location. Nice clean sound at all volume levels. Good quality materials that should last.

Cons: Maybe the slightest loss in volume but barely noticeable from the factory 2 ohm speakers.

Probably the single best upgrade you can perform, to help out the lackluster sound of the factory Alpine system. Seriously, the stock system has got to be one of the all-time worst sounding 'premium branded' systems in automotive history. These simple replacements are probably the easiest drop-in replacements you could imagine, and you'll gain articulate highs, improved soundstaging, and will find that your audio will sound how you probably thought it should've sounded from the factory.

Pros: Easy install Sweet, detailed highs

Does not fit 2015 Colorado

Written by: jeffdawgfan from Georgia on March 20, 2015

These are excellent speakers. I was going to buy a pair and replace the 3.5 inch speakers on dash in my 2015 Colorado. I already had an extra one from when I used a single speaker for a mid dash speaker on a previous vehicle so I tried to see if they would fit. Contrary to Crutchfield, these speakers do not fit the 2015 Colorado/Canyon with out doing some major carving up of your dash panel. The magnet will not even fit into the cavity on the dash without heavy modifications. Crutchfield, please revisit this recommendation. Great speakers but not a fit for my vehicle.

Pros: Great speakers for size.

Cons: Do not fit stock unmodified dash.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great speakers with great clear sound. For the price it's a great balance of sound and value. I didn't do components and I am totally happy. Just make sure you balance your system. I put these in the dash of my 2009 FJ Cruiser. Requires a little trimming to fit but love the sound. I have 2 6 1/2" Infinity References pushed by 800 watts and a Polk MM 10" by a Roxkford Prime 500 watt mono amp. .

Pros: Sound quality bass for such small speakers - good mid range

Cons: None

Too Bright

Written by: Randy from Washington on December 15, 2014

I put these in my 2014 Dodge Dart to replace the factory speakers. First off they sound way too bright, the treble is way too much even with the treble control turned all the way down on the head unit. In my opinion the frequency cut off for the tweeter needs to be at a higher point, not sure where they are cutting it off with the factory cap. The Vocals seem harsh too, not very lifelike. I returned these speakers and got the JBL gto329's and the vocals sound much better but even on these speakers the treble is too much. I am going to probably going to go back to the factory speakers which sound great, just wanted more treble, and probably add on some separate tweets with a crossover and I might have a little more control over how they sound.

Pros: They fit.

Cons: Too harsh, Too bright.

Don't let the size fool you. The sound qualities of these speakers are night and day better than the so called "Premium Alpine System that came with the car. Clarity and proper sound is what these speakers bought to my Dodge Charger. This was money well spent for sure. Also a special thanks to my product advisor from Crutchfield for all of his help. Very nice speakers for the dash of the 2014 Ram to replace the Alpine system speakers. I recommend changing at least the left and right front dash and rear door speakers with a good 6x9. A Nice Improvement

Written by: zt5159 from Tulsa, OK on December 14, 2013

I installed these in the rear doors of my 2012 Chrysler 300S with the so-called "Beats by Dr Dre" system. I say so-called because the speakers are the exact same ones Chrysler uses in its 2011+ 300/Dodge Charger Alpine audio systems and they are not impressive. They sound much clearer than the originals and I can even feel a little bass from them! Which is something you do NOT get from the factory 3.5" speakers. One thing to note is that in the 300 and Charger, these may fit just fine in the dash, but require a little modification to fit in the rear doors. The tabs for the mounting screws are too big, so I had to cut a corner from each one and then they slid into place and bolted down just fine. I love them! Not quite for the price (for my particular upgrade) but if you can catch them on sale it's worth it. Or if you have a different system than I do, they might be a bigger improvement.

Pros: Sound quality, bass for their size

Cons: None yet

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased these for my 89 blazer. Crutchfield says they fit with seperate brackets. They do not fit correctly, the dash metal braces hit the speakers when all is installed. These speakers are a cross between a mid and a tweeter. They try and reproduce mid level bass and high end from the tweeter. The mid sounds like crap even when adjusted crossover, with the mid trying so hard it makes the tweet sound like crap too. Get a combo mid and tweet seperate. You will be much happier.

Pros: They make noise.

2010 Toyota FJ Cruiser
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Speakers were purchased to replace dash speakers in an FJ Cruiser. They aren't supposed to fit but do with a small adjustment to the inside of the factory grill and placing a new hole for a mounting screw. 10X better response than from the full range speaker from the factory it replaced. Needs decent amount of power so I'll be buying a new Alpine MRX-V70 to allow these to really perform. More sound than you would expect from such a small speaker. Don't look for a 3 1/2" speaker to kick bass. Its a fill speaker

Pros: Well made, superb sound, very clear highs and mids

Cons: None

Infinity Reference X REF-3002cfx - 2012 Charger

2012 Dodge Charger
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

A great upgrade from the stock speakers! The stock dash speakers in the 2012 Charger were lifeless (base non-Alpine audio package). The Infinity Reference X REF-3002cfx brought out subtle details like whispers, cymbals, and reflected them off the windshield; soundscape expanded nicely. I added the PAC BB-600A2 Bass Blockers (600hz) to protect them. The included speaker wire adaptors worked great. In the right scheme, these speakers are a great supplement to your stereo system.

Pros: Added accurate higher frequencies, great improvement in vocals, in 2012 Charger took only about 45 min to get a great noticeable upgrade.

Cons: None

nice speakers!!!!!

2012 Dodge Charger
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These were recommended for my car through the Crutchfield fit your car app. The fit was fine but after 3 weeks noticed a popping out of one of the speakers and the sound clarity was not there. Called Crutchfield and asked if the speakers were the right fit and they confirmed but told me since I was out of the return window I was out of luck and to replace the speakers. I happened to purchase another set at the beginning thinking I had 3 speakers in my front dash ( I didn't). I replaced the speakers and still not thrilled with the fidelity of the system. I found that in my car the front factory speakers are 8 ohms not 3 ohms as suggested and now am not sure if this is the wrong selection for my car. Crutchfield told me now to buy the amp upgrade to make it sound good but now I am forced to an upgrade that I was not really looking to do. This was my first experience with Crutchfield and for me they have failed in both the product and the customer support.

Pros: Good clarity at low volume

Cons:

high hopes

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The speakers appear beautiful. And the infinity brand is strong. But the reality is that they much dont handle much bass. The highs are good mids are good. Use hpass. They are ok. I rely mostly on the sound of my Rockford Fosgate 6x9s. Heavy rear fader bias.

Pros: Brand.

Cons: Crackle and pop with any bass.

Amazing speakers. More bass in these 3" speakers than the stock 4" speakers. Less distortion too. But these do fit a 2004 saab 93 if you grind down the inside of the grill. Just grind down the little hexagons. That extra 3/8's of an inch will make it flawless. you cant even tell there in there.

Pros: great highs and lows. Great sensitivy too

Cons: a little work to get in there for my certain car

Features

Plus One+ Woofer Cones: Each speaker uses a cone significantly larger than other speakers of the same size. This is accomplished by using a unique basket design and hi-roll surround. The Plus One+ design offers greater bass output and an increase in efficiency.

Hi-roll Rubber Surrounds: The hi-roll rubber surrounds allow the woofers a greater range of movement, resulting in longer X-max and more bass output.

Tweeter: Each speaker has a balanced dome tweeter. A semi-dome tweeter has a dome placed inside a cone. Balanced dome tweeters are semi-dome tweeters with equal reproduction area given the cone and dome portions of the tweeter.

True Four Ohm Impedance Technology: The speaker's 3-ohm impedance combined with the impedance of your speaker wire provides a true 4-ohm load to your connected head unit or amplifier.

Power Handling: Although Infinity rates the 3002cfx speakers at 25 watts RMS (continuous average), they also recommend amplifiers with a power rating from 5 to 50 watts RMS.
