Our take on the Infinity Reference 5761a

Infinity Reference amplifiers boast impressive power ratings and fine-tuned controls — ideal for sending your music to new sonic heights.

When you want an amp that's truly versatile, it's hard to go wrong with the 6-channel Infinity Reference 5761a. Its 4-channel section (56 watts RMS per channel) drives all your full-range or component speakers, while two subwoofer channels (107 watts RMS x 2) take care of your low-frequency needs. You can operate this amp in 3-, 5-, or 6-channel mode, so this is one amp that you'll never outgrow.

You can contour the output to suit your speaker setup with the variable high- and low-pass filters. Kick up the bass output with Infinity's Variable Bass EQ when you need a little extra impact. Speaker- and preamp-level inputs ensure this amp integrates smoothly into your system.

Features

Status LEDs: The amplifier has the following status LEDs:

  • Clip: Indicates the amplifier is being overdriven, and your speakers may be in danger. This should blink only on musical peaks, and not be on constantly.
  • Power: Indicates the amplifier is on
  • Protect: Indicates any of the following problems: DC voltage on amplifier output, overheating, under voltage, over voltage, and short circuit in the speakers or wire

Variable Crossovers: The front, rear, and sub channels have separate crossovers. The front and rear channel filters can be set for low-pass, high-pass, or full-range operation. The sub channel filter is low-pass only and cannot be turned off. Each crossover can be adjusted from 32 to 320 Hz. In each case, the filter has a slope of 12 dB per octave.

Bass Boost: For added low frequency performance, the sub channels have a 0 to 12 dB variable bass boost centered at 50 Hz.

Sub Channel Input: The sub channels have a mode switch that can be set to one of the following options:

  • External Input: When sending a dedicated signal to the RCA subwoofer inputs
  • Internal Input: When using only the the front and rear inputs; this is useful if your receiver does not have dedicated subwoofer outputs

Brings a Tear to the Eyes

Written By Damon, Chicago, IL on Saturday, February 17, 2007

Wow! I just took my system to the next level with this one addition. I'm running two 6-in. components in the front, two 6-in References in the rear, and one 12-in sub in the trunk with this one amp. The clarity is so crystal clean it's almost transparent, and the power is enough to make your eyes water and contacts fall out. I'd recommend this bad boy to anyone. No deal out there is better.

YES!!

Written By Lance, Flowery Branch, GA on Friday, August 25, 2006

This amp does everything!! Gives each one of my four doors 57 watts and bridges a perfect 287 watts to my Infinity Perfect 10.1 sub. One thing about it is that it is pretty big. Make sure you measure when planning to mount it somewhere in particular. I just barely got it on my back wall in my '06 F150 Supercrew. It was a tight fit, but I pulled it off. I love this thing, I'd give it 10 stars out of 5!!!

Really good amp.

Written By Sz, Philly, PA on Friday, August 18, 2006

Powers my speakers very nicely. Kappa 60.7 components in the front and Kappa 62.7 coaxials in the back. 90w RMS. And peak is like 560w I think. And then the last channels bridged to an Infinity Perfect 10.1 sub. Does everything that two amps would do. Great amp if you want everything in one package and you won't have to run two power wires.

Awesome AMP!!11

Written By Mike, Milton, Florida on Monday, July 24, 2006

This amp is awesome. Makes my four Sony Xplod speakers sound great!! Also have one Polk Momo 10" sub in a truck box that bumps so hard, I can't use my rearview mirror!!

One minor issue I had with the amp was the x-over and gain controls, they are placed in a wierd place and can be kind of confusing on which one goes to which channel/speaker. But after I figured it out and realized that they spin all the way around and go back to zero, It was a snap to tweak my sub and speakers to my liking!!

I gave 4 out of 5 only for the fact that the controls were hard to get used to and located in a weird place. But other than that the amp performs flawelessly and really pushes my system to its full capabilities.

Awesome Amp!

Written By Wiz, Illinois on Monday, May 08, 2006

I purchased this amp to replace a Blaupunkt V7000 7ch amp (10 years old from Crutchfield). Although I didn't really want to replace the Blaupunkt it was having problems & was to old to have repaired. Looking for a replacement was tedious. I sorted through many reviews, opinions & specs, I finally decided the only comparable amp was the Infinity 5761a. Install was very smooth as I already had all cables & wires ran from my previous amp. After the install I had to turn the sub gain on the amp all the way down. I had so much bass from my Rockford Fosgate 12" subs it was unbelievable. I am Very Happy with this amp. Being a Crutchfield customer for many years has been a joy. I have many Audiophile friends who have spent thousands on components & installs. Just hearing them say "I can't believe you DIY" makes everything that Cruthfield offers even better.

An Excellent Amp!

Written By james, Trenton, NJ on Wednesday, March 22, 2006

This amp, although pricey, is top-quality through and through. It provides more than enough power and I particularly like the 6-channel configuration which allows me to power the front and rear speakers while bridging the output from the last two channels to the subwoofer. The head unit amp is not used at all. It's simple and for someone like me who doesn't want to mess around with two amps, it's a no-fuss setup.

Solution Found

Written By Wes, Chesapeake, Va on Tuesday, November 22, 2005

This amp replaced 3 Quality OLD SCHOOL Fosgate Punch amps; a Punch 200 to 6.5" Q series MB Quart components, a Punch 100 to 5.25" Infinity Perfect comps, and a Punch 200 to two 12" Orion XTR dvcs. I love those amps, but I wanted to simplify the wiring situation when i bought my GTI. I also replaced the two 12's with one 12" 2ohm dvc Quart Reference sub (also from Cruchfield, see my other review) to conserve space and weight. The amp sounds great, it's plenty loud and pushes the quart components cleanly with NO PROBLEMS. Take advantage of the 2 ohm power of the sub channels, my quart is in a 1cf fiberglass box that fits in the full size spare, and it will hit low. I also purchased a 1/2 farad cap, post install, after discovering that the current setup will dim the headlights on my VR6.

The crossovers and gains are on the same side as the inputs, with the power and speaker connections on the opposite side = little room for engine noise assuming the power and rca's are run on opposite sides of the car.

Alot of amp for the money

Written By Dan, Tucson AZ on Sunday, July 24, 2005

At first I almost choked on the price, but I have long since gotten past that. This amp does it all. Floor shaking hard hitting bass, clean highs, alot of options. One amp does it all with the punch of separate amps. Circuit protection is helpful and will not smoke if you cross some wires somewhere. Unit seems to work flawlessly. I used reference 12" sub in a Q logic down firing enclosure to update a 6x9 rear and 4x6 plate speaker front setup in a landcruiser. It sounds like I spent alot more on the system. No reservations on this quality amplifier.

Man-O-Man what an amp

Written By Tank, Tucson,AZ on Wednesday, June 22, 2005

I am and have been an audiophile since 78 or 79. I bought this amp to fill my Suburban with good music. Boy was I ever wrong, this amp just kicks butt hard core. I mounted it under the back seat (not 3rd row) on the bottom of the seat itself. I matched it up with Polk Audio separates with crossovers in the doors. I put 2 10" Rockford/Fosgate seriesI subs with my own built 2.26 cu. ft. sealed box in the back. I have everything adjusted about center on output, and tuning is not far from "middle of the road". This amp produces such clear highs and mids, and the sub just vibrates the whole truck inside. Mind you I have the sub adjustment at -2. Oh, and if you were wondering, I listen to all types of music. Everybody (rock, rap, R&B, oldies, blues people) that hear it say that it is the most musical sound with the bump it seems that everybody wants. Thanks Crutchfield for supplying my quality system, can't wait for the 40' motorhome, now that's gonna be a killer system.

Infinity Reference 5761a

Written By Doug, Colorado Springs, CO on Saturday, June 11, 2005

I'm not an audiophile and therefore can't make comparisons between this and other amps, however I'm extremely pleased with this unit. It has ample power to drive my system. In my opinion a great value for the money.
