Infinity Reference SUB R12 powered subwoofer

Solid construction, solid sound

Much of the SUB R12's powerful performance comes courtesy of its strong-yet-lightweight fiber-composite 12" woofer and solidly built, tuned-port enclosure. Infinity employs internal edge-to-edge windowpane bracing to eliminate cabinet vibration while providing a firm foundation for the driver. This combination of structural strength and robust driver provides powerful, deep bass response that will make your music and movies come alive.

Easy system integration

Line-level and LFE (Low Frequency Effects) inputs let you easily connect this sub to most audio systems. Its back-panel volume, crossover, and phase controls help you fine-tune the bass to your liking. A low frequency trim control provides up to 4dB of boost at 35 Hz for added impact. Auto power control means you never need to worry about switching the SUB R12 on or off, as its signal sensing circuitry will handle that for you. The SUB R12 makes an excellent addition to any Infinity Reference stereo music or home theater setup.

Why add a powered subwoofer?

A powered subwoofer gives you bass you can feel as well as hear. Our customers love the depth and impact their subs add to music and movies. We hear comments like "it brings out sounds I didn't know existed in discs I've watched a million times." Powered subwoofers aren't just for big bass that rattles your picture frames; they can also deliver tight, accurate lows. If you haven't shopped for a powered sub in a while, you might be surprised at how small they get. Look for an ultra-compact model if you want to tuck your sub away under an end table or in a corner.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Excellent addition to really feel the music or movies. I have 2 Infinity Overture 3 towers with powered subs in them, so I didn't really think adding a subwoofer would make that much of a difference. It makes a big difference. Now, I didn't try out 5 different subwoofers to be able to compare this R12 with any other sub, but it's been great so far.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I just upgraded my entire home theater and I decided to take a chance on this subwoofer. I couldnt find any reviews of it anywhere online. I have klipshch towers and center speaker, and infinity towers in the rear, and I have my channel crossovers set so this sub handles everything under 80hz recommended by thx, and this sub just fills the room with dynamic bass that just sounds amazing..

Pros: Excellent sound, good price.

Cons:

Beautiful Sub

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Not a single review user for this sub anywhere online. Crazy! It's a looker and a performer. Caught a great sale at Crutchfield. Check out Sound & Vision magazine review at their website. It's a best kept secret I guess. Put this unit on your shopping list and be the first to show your friends that you were smart enough to look beyond the big box stores and select something unique. The SVS model I wanted was out of my price range and the HSU models are a bit too big for my space. This is a great choice for me.

Pros: Infinity quality. Useful features. Plays deep and loud. Blends perfectly with my 30 year old Infinity RS-6b's. Beautiful to look at. Spousal approval.

Cons: None so far!

Features

12" Woofer/300W Amp: The Infinity Reference series SUB R12 powered sub features a 12" fiber composite woofer with rubber surround and a 300W RMS/600W Peak amplifier for dynamic bass response. There is one rear-firing bass port that allows deeper bass with high acoustic efficiency and low distortion.

Controls: All of the powered sub's controls are located on the back-panel. There is a Subwoofer Level control for adjusting the level of the bass to match the output of your front speakers. There is also a continuously variable (50-150Hz, 24dB/octave) Low-Pass Crossover which determines the highest frequency at which the subwoofer reproduces sound. The crossover is bypassed when the crossover is set to the "LFE" position. The powered sub's Phase Switch (Normal/Reverse) allows you to control the phase of the subwoofer's output relative to the front speakers; if the bass sounds muddy or unclear, toggling the phase control can sometimes strengthen the bass "attack". In addition there is a LF Trim switch which boosts the powered sub's bass level (0, +2dB, or +4dB) in comparison with the rest of your system.

Line-level Inputs: Two gold-plated RCA jacks are provided for connecting the powered sub to your AV receiver. You can use a single RCA cable to connect the Subwoofer or LFE (low frequency effects) Output on your receiver to the powered sub's L/LFE line-level (RCA) input. Since most subwoofer/LFE outputs are filtered by most receivers/processors, the subwoofer's variable low-pass filter is usually not required and should be bypassed; this is done by placing the sub's crossover to the "LFE" position. If your receiver has preamp outputs, or if you are using a receiver without a designated subwoofer/LFE output, the preferred connection is to use a stereo RCA cable plugged into both left and right line-level RCA inputs. If the preamp outputs are unfiltered, the subwoofer's internal crossover should be used placed in the "50-150Hz" position.

Auto On/Off Circuit: The auto on/off circuit turns the power amp on when a signal is sensed and turns the amplifier off and into standby mode approximately 10 minutes after a signal is no longer received. An LED indicator on the rear panel glows green when the amplifier is on and red when the amp is in standby.

Mounting Feet: The Infinity Reference series SUB R12 powered sub features integrated rubber feet to prevent against unwanted vibration and protect your hardwood or tile flooring. The powered sub also comes with four spiked feet which screw into the integrated rubber feet, ideal for carpeted flooring. The spiked feet add approximately 0.4375" of height to subwoofer.
