JBL +  compact sub

JBL BassPro SL 8" powered under seat enclosure

Under the seat is the Bass Pro's natural habitat.

The smaller the subwoofer enclosure, the more places it can go. And with cars getting smaller every year, the need for compact powered subs is greater than ever. Now JBL introduces their Bass Pro SL powered sub, and it's ready to go where no sub has gone before.

JBL's Bass Pro SL powered sub delivers impressive bass from a stealthy low-profile enclosure that'll fit under the seat in many vehicles. Its 8" shallow-profile woofer was designed especially for this compact enclosure, so you know you'll be hearing some strong bass.

Tight spots? Sure!

The Bass Pro SL uses a Class D amplifier that delivers 125 watts RMS to the sub; the amp hardly gets warm when it's working, so you don't have to worry about installing the Bass Pro SL under your seat or in some other tight space.

The Bass Pro SL includes line- and speaker-level inputs with an input load switch. The amp's controls also include adjustable crossover frequency and bass boost.

Features

Mounting: The subwoofer, with its height of 2-7/8", can be mounted flat under a seat in the passenger compartment of many vehicles.

Auto Turn-On: When the speaker level inputs are used, the system can automatically turn on and off by sensing the voltage on the speaker input. If you prefer, auto turn-on can be turned off, so the amp turns on/off using the wired remote terminal.

Note: The auto turn-on feature does not operate when the preamp level inputs are used.

Low-Pass Crossover: The low-pass crossover slope is 12dB/octave and the crossover point is variable from 50 Hz to 120 Hz.

Bass Boost: The amplifier includes a continuously variable bass boost circuit, 0 dB to +9 dB centered at 70Hz.

Inputs:

  • Power: the power (+12V), ground, and remote turn-on connections are on a terminal strip; each screw terminal is approximately 0.34" wide; JBL recommends 12-gauge (minimum) power and ground wires
  • Line Level Input: left and right female RCA preamp level inputs
  • Speaker Level Input: 4-pin port for the included speaker input harness
  • Fuse: 20-amp ATO fuse installed
  • Remote: RJ-14 jack for an optional wired remote (item number 108RBC, sold separately)

Controls:

  • Audio Sense: two position switch; set to On when using speaker level inputs to engage the auto turn-on circuit
  • Input Load: two position switch, active only when using speaker level inputs; offers compatibility with a wide range of aftermarket and factory radios
  • Crossover: rotary control; sets low-pass crossover point; continuously variable from 50 Hz to 120 Hz
  • Phase: two position switch; select normal (0°) or reverse (180°)
  • Level: rotary control; gain variable from 200mV to 2V when using line level inputs, 2V to 20V when using speaker level inputs
  • Bass Boost: rotary control; bass boost level variable from 0dB to +9dB, centered at 70Hz

Q
Can I replace the 8 inch passive woofers that are under the seats of a 2016 Mini Cooper convertible with a stock non Harmon Kardon system with these?
evan  Aug 05, 2019
2 answers
A
I can't answer that. The Crutchfield guys should be able to answer that. This fits under the seat of my Mustang but the mini may be too small. And as far as connections I don't know the specifics for your amp / car audio. Sorry I couldn't be much help.
adam  Aug 24, 2019
A
You cannot 'replace' those with them, no. you can add them to the system, if you have the room under the seats.

Q
can this be installed in a 2016 f150 with the sony sound system?
jake  Jun 14, 2019
2 answers
A
Pretty sure yes, you need power 12volt and signal input either high or low. Its a versatile unit.
stephen b.  Jun 19, 2019
A
It can really be installed with any system. You will either need an rca connection or splice into the speaker for the input. Other than that it is a straight forward amp install

Q
Where would I be able to install this sub in a BMW Z3?

A
Under or behind the seat would be a common location. The trunk would be another option. There is not right or wrong answer. Our friendly product advisors can help you brainstorm the best place for your specific year and model BMW. You can chat with us here: https://bit.ly/2QNxGQB

I have a 2005 Wrangler X and it fits under the back seat.... sounds great....

I have it under my driver side seat in a Ford Focus. Plenty of clearance. You only need like 4 or 5 inches between the seat and the floor and it still leaves plenty of playroom

I have a 2018 Jeep Cherokee and it fit under both my passenger and driver seat

Q
What would be the best way to connect two of these up to a pioneer deh-x8800bhs stereo? It has one rca line out for sub woofer on the back of the stereo.
adam  May 15, 2019
1 answer
A
In this case, the simplest connection would be to use an RCA Y connector. Run a single line cable from your stereo to the location of the subs (which are presumably close together) Y the cable and connect to both line ins on the subs. The impedances will match well enough. Tech note: A Y can be used to divide an output. It should never be used to combine an input.

I think it will do great. I have an old 4 door Jeep Cherokee and it sounds awesome
david  Apr 24, 2019
Q
can this be wired into an existing stock system, using line-level inputs and just a power line? i.e. will it be triggered to turn on by the speaker level signal coming into it? I can easily run a power cable but the power trigger (like I have in my other vehicle with an after market head unit) will be impossible.

A
I had this wired into a stock chevy silverado 2014. I had to run a wire to a switched hot from the fuse box to get it to work correctly. Was easy and if you have to run power anyway should be pretty easy
thomas  Jan 02, 2019
A
When using the line level input you will need to hook up keyed power input. From the head unit OR a key-on power source. (As per the instructions) , My factory head unit has no power wire to turn on anything so I tapped into a keyed on source. Great little unit.

Not really sure of the clearance under a Jeep seat. Fits under the seat of my 2017 Honda Accord.

Q
Can this unit be mounted upright, say like on the back wall of a reg cab pickup behind the seat? dont want to take up floor space.
nils  Jul 11, 2018
3 answers
A
I think it could be done, but you would want to mount it to steel, not just the plastic covering it. Then you would likely have screws sticking out the back of the cab, so screw length would have to be watched so as not to get into the bed or against it.
kenneth  Jul 11, 2018
A
Yes it can
david  Jul 11, 2018
A
Yes, it has four counter sink screw holes for mounting.

You will need to purchase an installation kit which includes your power cable and ground cable as well as a fuse

The JBL system in my camry 2014.5 has only 1 rear deck subwoofer. Can I use that single channel to this JBL Basspro SL subwoofer and place this under the seat? Thank you.

It has line level inputs so I would think it should. I didnt connect mine that way so cant be 100% positive. Try to find the manual for it online and check it. I think you can do that here.

Q
Does this unit come with the remote bass control? Is it needed/recommended for (optimal) use? Thank You!

It does not have a remote bass control knob. But you can turn in up on the device if need be.
michael  Mar 25, 2018
A
It does mot. I have mine in a 05 GMC ext cab Sierra. The rear set is up 99% of the time and found once I got it set I have not had to adjust. I was not looking for a lot of bass, just to pick it up a little. This unit filled that need.
david  Mar 24, 2018
A
I believe the remote is optional. I used it in a small truck cabin and found that it was better to get the crossover and amp settings at a comfortable spot and make any further adjustment from the head unit

The bass will travel though out the car . I have one and it sounds great.just make sure it will fit measure it with the measurements they give you in the description.
david  Oct 09, 2017

I have one under my seat in a Sierra. It can be mounted onto a flat service as long as there's ample room. Crutchfield should have the dimensions. I'm guessing it's 2.5 inches thick, give or take. As for Sound. 24 year old me would not have been satisfied with the output. Not by a mile. 44 year old me appreciates it for what it is. A cost effective way to get some gentle bump out of a factory stereo. Hope this helps. As for

I have purchased two of these. One is in the trunk of a car and the other is under the passenger seat of a Jeep. The bass has not been diminished in either location. I am not sure of the Tacoma's layout but cannot see you having any issues with this item.

Q
Hi Can this subwoofer shows himself (have a enough bass and rms) in front of alpine spr 69 and spr 50c ? I am just looking for a depth and decent bass and vibration.and which wire gauge should i use for connecting to the battery? Thanks
h  Sep 17, 2016
1 answer
A
Much would depend on the amplification you're using to power the Alpine speakers. The JBL BassPro SL will not overpower any full-range speakers but you should be able to appreciate the better bass response it provides for your system. We recommend using 10 gauge power/ground leads for this sub. I hope that helps. My Bio: http://www.crutchfield.com/Support/Bio.aspx?bio=5

Q
Can this be used to replace the pioneer subwoofer under the passenger seat of a 1999 Lexus RX300?
gp99rx300  Jun 03, 2016
1 answer
A
This is for all of the available compact subs, I would recommend to contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to pull up your vehicle, compare the different subs available and give you the details on if they will fit and what you will need for an installation in your vehicle.
