About the JBL Boost TV

Jeff Miller

Apartment-friendly entertainment enhancer

Whenever I'm over at a friend's place to watch an important fight or ballgame on their massive television, I'm always a little disappointed if the sound comes up lacking. The huge picture is really cool, but I don't want to strain to hear play-by-play or background music. If you place the JBL Boost TV under the big screen, that problem is solved.

A quick-and-easy way to add big sound to any TV.

This mighty mite is one of the most compact sound bars we've seen, and adds dynamic movie and music sound to even the tightest quarters, like secondary TV setups, bedrooms, or dorms. It is so light that, on a whim, you could carry it from room to room for movie night or listening to tunes — hey, you could even take it to a friend's apartment for the big game. (Just remember, it's not battery-powered, so you'll need to bring the AC adapter, too.)

Speedy setup and switching between TV sound and Bluetooth

Sometimes in smaller places a single speaker becomes your main home theater and music system. The Boost TV is a versatile option for both. It connects to your TV with one cable to deliver clear dialogue and true-to-life effects. The system comes with its own remote, but you can also teach it the volume commands of your existing TV remote for convenient control.

You can also play music wirelessly from your phone or tablet. There's Bluetooth built-in, and you can quickly toggle between the audio from your TV or Bluetooth-enabled device.

Top of the JBL Boost TV

The JBL Boost TV is only 15" wide and automatically switches between your TV and Bluetooth audio sources.

Get connected with other JBL Bluetooth speakers

Download the free JBL Connect app to your Apple® or Android™ device and wirelessly connect other JBL speakers over Bluetooth. You can send Bluetooth audio from the JBL Boost to compatible JBL devices, like the JBL Flip 3. (You have about a range of about 33 feet, line of sight.)

Features

Compact TV Speaker: The JBL Boost TV is an ultra-compact TV speaker that instantly improves your TV audio experience with surprisingly powerful, room-filling sound. Elevate your television sound experience with JBL Boost TV's deep bass, virtual surround sound and Dolby® Digital for HD movies. Its the perfect complement to your TV in the living room, den, bedroom, or kid's room.

Dual Driver & Port Design: The JBL Boost TV speaker houses two 2" full-range drivers powered by a built-in 30W amplifier for room-filling sound. It also incorporates dual side-firing bass ports to reinforce low frequencies.

Harman Display Surround + Dolby Digital Decoding: The JBL Boost TV speaker lets you enjoy virtual surround sound without adding multiple speakers. Employing proprietary Harman Display Surround technology, it creates a virtual surround-sound experience from a single speaker. The JBL Boost TV can also decode Dolby Digital soundtracks, which eliminates conversion stages that reduce sound quality.

Analog & Digital Connectivity: The JBL Boost TV features both analog (minijack) & digital (optical) inputs to connect your flat-panel TV, Blu-ray/DVD player, or satellite/cable box to the system. The optical digital input will support 2ch PCM and Dolby Digital 5.1ch audio.

Note: The digital optical output terminals of most newer flat-panel TVs only send an audio signal in 5.1ch when receiving Dolby Digital surround sound from the TV's built-in tuner, network connection, or connected USB device; and will output only 2ch stereo from sources connected to the TV via HDMI, or RCA (like your Blue-ray/DVD player or satellite/cable box).

Bluetooth Music Streaming: The JBL Boost TV features built-in Bluetooth A2DP, which allows you to wirelessly stream audio from your Apple iPod/iPhone/iPad, Android smartphone/tablet, Blackberry, laptop/computer, or other Bluetooth-enabled device to the JBL speaker system. Up to 3 device can be paired, but only one can be used at a time. Once paired, the Boost TV speaker will automatically re-connect with your device when in wireless range (up to 33'). You will continue to use your Bluetooth-enabled device for music navigation and to view song/artist information.

Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the JBL Boost TV.

JBL SoundShift Technology: JBL SoundShift Technology works with your TV and wireless mobile device at the same time to allow you to automatically switch between the sound from your TV and the sound from your smartphone or tablet.

JBL Connect Technology: Use JBL Connect to wirelessly link two JBL Connect enabled speakers, like the JBL Boost TV, together for amplified sound when streaming Bluetooth. The speakers are linked together so each speaker plays back both left and right channels for playback of the same Bluetooth audio source from two different speakers.

Remote Control: The JBL Boost TV comes with an IR remote for wireless operation of the system. The Boost TV speaker can also "learn" the IR (infrared) volume-control code of your existing TV remote control, taking away the need to keep track of yet another remote for controlling the volume on the soundbar.

Customer Q&A

Q
I need and only have room on a small shelf to fit either this JBL Boost Soundbar or the Bose Solo 5, unfortunately space is an issue and those are the only two widths/heights that will fit. Can anyone tell me which of the two is more powerful in sound? This JBL is a 30 watt and I don't know what the Bose Solo 5 is and if it's the same, I'd be best off with the less expensive JBL right?

Thanks for your question. For information on comparing two or more models I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to help determine the differences and help you make the best choice for your system and your budget.

Q
how does this connect wireless to TV?
andrew  Jul 31, 2016

A
The signal has to go from the TV to the bar. My TV audio out is only RCA Phono, however if your TV has an HDMI output you can buy wireless HDMI set up.
peter  Aug 01, 2016
A
I do not believe it does connect wireless to the TV. Mine is hardwired to one of the audio ports on the back of my flatscreen TV. I don't remember any mention of it being connectable wireless; but, if it does say it has the capability, you would have to call Crutchfield. They are very good about talking you through installation.

No. It doesn't have a charger or rechargeable batteries. Or any batteries.
terence  Feb 26, 2016
A
No, no battery
yair omar avell  Feb 26, 2016
A
No it's not battery-powered, so you'll need the AC adapter.
christopher  Feb 26, 2016
A
no
alan  Feb 26, 2016
A
No, it has no internal battery so it needs to be plugged in to work

Q
Can this product be mounted to a wall?
tom  Jan 26, 2016
6 answers
A
I would have to say: "No". The base that it sets on is flush with the bottom of the unit itself and therefore would not permit attachment to a vertical surface. There are no holes or notches in the base which would allow it to be hung on a hook or screws. Off hand, I can't think of any way it could be mounted to a wall.
kenneth c.  Jan 28, 2016
A
It cannot mounted to a wall.
gary  Jan 28, 2016
A
No, not that I can see. It has a rounded back and front, so mounting it flush to a wall would be very difficult and I don't believe there are mounting holes in the back of the speaker either.
robert  Jan 27, 2016
A
Not without a shelf.
alan  Jan 27, 2016
A
No it's not wall mountable. You can install a small book shelf 20"w X 10"d (give or take an 1" or 2) and set it on top of that. Hope this helps!
christopher  Jan 27, 2016
A
By means of a shelf measuring 5" x 15" minimum to place it on. You do not need anything heavy duty or bulky. Unit does not weigh much and its nothing a bookshelf couldn't handle.

Q
How do I connect my remote to the Boost TV? I can make my Xfinity X1 remote control the volume but not the Samsung remote that came with the TV. Any advice?
seattleike  Nov 17, 2015
1 answer
A
Your Xfinity remote may not have the ability to control the JBL. It would have to have the codes pre-loaded onto it and, being the new product that the JBL Boost is, that's not very likely. The good news is, our tech support department can help you with this. You can reach them directly at the toll free number printed on your invoice. If you do not have your invoice, you can contact our Customer Support department by dialing 800-955-9091. They can load your order and transfer you over to Tech Support if need be. I hope that helps!
