JBL Charge 2

Bluetooth connectivity and big sound

Stream wirelessly from your Bluetooth-enabled smartphone, tablet, laptop or other device to the Charge 2. Two 1-1/2" full-range drivers give you clean, clear sound, with a built-in bass port to reinforces the low tones. Thanks to JBL's advanced digital signal processing, the Charge 2 can produce rich, full sound despite its compact design.

In Social Mode, the Charge 2 lets you simultaneously pair up to three devices. So you and two friends can take turns being the DJ and keep the party going.

Easy conversation

When your paired smartphone receives a call, the Charge 2 turns into a speakerphone. Its built-in microphone uses SoundClear® technology to minimize echo and filter out ambient noise. Both you and your caller will enjoy a conversation with clear, natural sound.

Convenient portability

The Charge 2 has a durable silicone coating for protection and comes with a USB charging cable and power adapter. An auxiliary input lets you play non-Bluetooth portable devices through the system, too.

This is a great unit for the price. Considering its compact size, the Charge 2 sounds great, has good clarity, and dual passive bass ports provide nicely balanced low-end sound. JBL has produced another fine portable product.

JBL Charge 2 - Best Bang For Your $

txtax1122 from Texas on 10/4/2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

If this product is still available from Crutchfield at $99, then get it before they run out. The sound, portability, and battery life are amazing. BIG BONUS = you can also use it to charge your phone if needed. Crutchfield has the best price for this product. Such a great deal I got two; red one and purple one.

Pros: Crisp, clean mid and high range with excellent bass notes. 12 hour battery life is amazing. More than one person can play DJ on this device. BIG BONUS = you can also use to charge your phone if needed.

Cons: Small one. I have a old desktop for work at home (no bluetooth) so I wish I could connect it to my desktop by wire.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a great unit for the price. Considering its compact size, the Charge 2 sounds great, has good clarity, and dual passive bass ports provide nicely balanced low-end sound. JBL has produced another fine portable product.

Pros: Really good sound quality in a compact speaker, good battery life, balanced sound with dual bass ports.

Cons: No carry case. A case that holds both the speaker, cord and adapter would be a nice addition to the package.

Sound is fantastic for its size... super portable. Battery so far seems great....nice features. Great product for the price.

Pros: Sound quality, size, features

Great sound. It has bass!

tygahz from Hawaii on 8/6/2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Incredible speaker. Great sound quality. It may not be as loud as a similar sized speaker but it most certainly has better depth in sound, especially the bass.

Pros: For such a little speaker, the sound is incredible. It is more complete in from the bass to the treble than other speakers that are the same size.

Cons: It is not as loud as other speakers that are the same size.

sound quality is great. portability is excellent. For the money spent I do not think there is anything else on the market that compares. Bluetooth is easy to connect and have not had any issues with the connection being dropped. Highly recommended.

Pros: Portability, sound quality for the size.

Cons: could be a little louder, but good for what i need

Better than Bose?

kmh from Virginia on 7/1/2015

I listened to the JBL side by side with the Bose SoundLink and the JBL Charge sounded better by far. As I own a Bose SoundDock, I believed the Bose would sound better, but it did not. Mostly due to a lack of bass.

JBL Charge 2 Review

Kendall from Georgia on 6/23/2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

So far, this product is great. I have turned it to the max volume setting to test out how loud it is, and there is almost no sound distortion. I have taken this to the beach and the sound has been more than sufficient to have great tunes going while on the beach with friends and you want to rock out. So far i have only used it for 4 or 5 hours continuously, and according to the battery meter, it would have about little less than half remaining. It charges quickly too! I really liked the "social" function where it allows up to 3 people to connect their bluetooth device, and can share their music after the other persons is done. very cool feature that allows multiple people to play DJ

Pros: *more than enough loudness *minimal distortion at high volume *great battery life *charges quickly *"social" feature is nifty

Cons: *none so far

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I already own a charge 1 and purchased the charge 2 primarily for the speaker phone feature which works great. It has good clear voice reproduction. For music it has much improved bass reproduction and greater room filling volume. A great JBL bluetooth speaker.

Pros: Sound quality, build quality and portability

Cons: None

Charge Your Music!

JPF from Maine on 6/11/2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The JBL portable speaker line gets better with each new addition. The Charge 2 is the 12th JBL portable speaker purchased. I have The Flip, Charge One and now the Charge 2 giving 9 of them as gifts to the family. The Charge 2 adds more base to the already clear and ambient sound quality. The choice of colors, ability to play for over 12 hours and rescue your iPhone at any weak moment is precious. The Charge 2 is perfect in transit from the early morning source of news and music to the late day deck relaxation time. Its a perfect compliment to my I-Phone 6 Plus and Mac Pro Notebook. I use it often in presentations and enjoy answering all the questions about the sound quality!

Pros: Price, Awesome Looks, Incredible Sound, Additional Connection Sources, Long Battery Life, Emergency Charging

Cons: Be careful if you lend it to anyone. It will be hard to get it back.

Great speaker, especially for the price. Will be great to have while traveling. Also works perfect in the Kitchen when you don't want to turn the whole stereo on.

TODD from Kingsport, TN on 6/7/2015

Had been looking for a Bluetooth speaker for a while and I ended up buying the JBL CHARGE 2. Sounds great and easy to use and connect to. Battery life is great and love the fact that you can use it to charge your phone. Took it to the beach on my vacation and it was perfect. In the past I would have lugged a boom box to the beach but with this Bluetooth speaker I was able to toss it in a beach bag. Loud enough to really enjoy but not so loud to bother people around me who might not enjoy my style of music. Highly recommend this speaker.

Pros: Power and battery life and great sound and build quality.

Cons: None

Well balanced sound

papaque from Pago Pago, AS on 5/26/2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Impressive well balanced sounding speaker. I enjoy listening from this speaker because there isn't any stray noise that I can hear. It's so quiet I can only hear pure music. The sound is still good even when it is set to maximum volume. I could only wish it has a louder sound. Bluetooth connection is simple. I tried it on my mobile phone, tablet and laptop and didn't have any problem. Battery life is up to specification and I can charge my mobile phone from the speaker. I wish charging time for the speaker could be shorter.

Pros: Impressive well balanced sound, good quality and user friendly.

Cons: Takes long time to fully charge. No grills to protect the two bass drivers.

JBL Charge 2

stl rkn from Colorado Springs on 5/21/2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought this to replace the original charge that for some reason stopped playing using my iphone (would play using my wife's phone, just not mine). In my opinion this is a vast improvement. Better sound (bass out of both ends), cooler colors, able to answer phone with it, able to pair more than one device. People who complain that it is not loud enough should have their hearing checked and make sure that their volume is turned up on their device. Very happy with this purchase and Crutchfield.

Pros: color, sound, ability to pair more than one device, ability to answer phone.

Cons: none so far

Works fine

Dave M from Lexington, KY on 5/3/2015

Compared a few different Bluetooth speakers and decided to go with JBL based on features and price point. Used this at an impromptu party the other day and it worked fine - moved it around to provide background music but not impact conversations.

Pros: Works fine - as expected from a product at Crutchfield. Connects to iPhone 5s without any problem.

Cons: Haven't found any yet.

BGW from Missouri on 5/1/2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this for my daughter and she loves it. The ability to charge portable devices with it is a plus. For what it is, it does an excellent job.

Pros: Sound quality and portability.

Cons: Distorts when loud on bass heavy tracks. However, that is to be expected with something this small.

The perfect Music Companion

Jim G from Ohio on 4/22/2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I love this speaker! It last not just hours, but days! The sound rivals the much more expensive Beats Pill and at a fraction of the cost (bought on sale for $119 from Crutchfield). I have not used the Charge 2 to recharge my phone so I can not speak about this feature. But, as far as sound quality, portability, battery life, and ease of use it is simply flawless. I would recommend this to anyone on the market for a Bluetooth speaker.

Pros: Ease of use and setup, long battery life, sound quality (loud with nice bass!)

Cons: None so far!

Don from Nevada on 4/19/2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've had this Charge 2 for two weeks now and I love it so far! I've never been keen on Bluetooth devices because in my opinion, they tend to drain your phone battery quickly and the sound quality usually suffers. Not so with the Charge 2. Sound is great and doesn't diminish one bit when using Bluetooth or a cable connect. This will be perfect for camping and working out in my shop.

Pros: Great deal for the price, especially when JBL or Crutchfield puts these on sale. Great sound for it's size. It won't fill a backyard at a barbeque, but it's perfect for inside a small shop, a campsite, sitting in a chair fishing, etc. Just the sort of quality you'd expect from JBL and I've been torturing their speakers for 30 years now.

Cons: None so far as I can tell. We'll see how it holds up over time.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I didn't really know what to expect from this little guy, but all I can say is Wow. I was very skeptical when others said they could here good lows out of this box, but they were right. JBL says it produces down to 75hz and I believe it. Overall frequency range is great and the sound is clear with the volume cranked. Plenty of "loudness". Very impressed and I highly recommend.

Pros: Great frequency range with lows down to 75hz. Clear sound Giant capacity battery.

Cons: None so far.

Great Product

J-Rob from Springfield, MO on 1/5/2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Purchased this for my wife to take to her work office, but she has instead placed it in our master bathroom. Sound is balanced and robust. It easily fills the room (large master bath), and often overcomes other background noise such as running water or kids runnig around yelling. The white model compliments the white trim and looks great. Setup was a breeze. Considered other brands and tested other models at various retailers, and I believe this product performs as well or better than the alternatives.

Pros: Performs very well and meets or exceeds all expectations.

Cons: None.

Very sturdy unit that is loud enough for him without being too loud for me. I can see years of use in many places coming from the JBL. Well done.

Pros: Loud and clear sound. Battery life is excellent and far exceeds units twice the price. clear phone communications.

Cons: none yet and I doubt there will be in the future

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have been using JBL speakers for more years than I care to count. As a musician, I used JBL speakers as our main PA system and also as floor monitors. I recently purchased new floor monitors and a pair of studio monitors. I always go to JBL first so when I was looking for a portable bluetooth speaker, of course I tried JBL. This unit is as good or better than any others I tried and many of them were priced much higher. Can you tell I'm a fan of JBL products? Very happy with the performance of this speaker and one more thing. It arrived from Crutchfield 2 days before I was expecting it. Good company.

Pros: Solid, good sound for a small unit. Wireless range is very good.

Cons: None

Ken W from the Washington, DC Area on 12/27/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bluetooth connectivity/pairing is so easy I paired my ipod touch in about 15 seconds without directions. Battery life is unbelievably long! Again, the battery life, really long, no kidding, long. Sound quality is quite good and it delivers enough bass to get that "thump" you can feel in your bones. Also, the Charge 2 is plenty loud for its size. Its not a "Loud Speaker" type of speaker, but it is loud. Seriously nice product from JBL.

Pros: Battery life, Bluetooth - so easy - no wires, Loudness, Size and Portability.

Cons: Nothing provided to protect the ends. I would have paid extra $$ for a nice/clever case. It was said before and I'll say it again, the directions are useless.

With all the options out now for portable Bluetooth speakers, it's hard to choose. Having had a set of killer jbl studio monitors in the past, I knew jbl was quality stuff. Right out of the box this thing is awesome. Bridges the gap nicely from simply using the speakers on the phone to having to plug the phone in old school style to the home system. Wonderful speaker with great bass. Charge lasts for 12 hours as touted. Very good volume control with touch control + and -. Illuminated power, bluetooth and battery strength. Battery strength 1 through 5 dots shows power left and goes in a standby mode after a few seconds. Only a touch illuminates the strength again. Nice build quality.

JBL Charge 2 Speaker it Great!

TomD from Florida on 12/8/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Just got it after returning one of the big, highly rated wireless speakers that weighs 10 times this welterweight. This little guy is a winner; it is better hands down. Paired right up. Sound quality and loudness for something this small is nothing short of amazing. It obviously can't duplicate the sound quality of my home entertainment unit, but it is surprising good for the size. I probably need to spend some time with it to see what problems I encounter, but I want anyone who is looking for a small portable wireless speaker to stop and buy this one. You will be happy.

Pros: Small, easily portable with a long life rechargeable battery. Sound quality and loudness is excellent, considering its size. The bass is not great, but is there and you know it.

Cons: A little pricey for a small portable speaker, but I don't regret my purchase. The instructions are useless. A carrying case for this price speaker should be included.

Only great things to say about this thing! Huge, crisp, sharp sound from a small, portable device. It's awesome you can charge up your phone while you hang out and listen. The only con would be that it does not come with a carrying case because you want to take it everywhere. But hey... Make one or think outside of the box and use something around the house.

Pros: Awesome sound quality. 12 hour (longest I found) playback time. Charging capabilities.

Cons: Really nothing.

The JBL Charge 2 has a very good sound for a small, portable bluetooth speaker. I have not tried the speaker phone capabilities just yet. I was also able to buy an inexpensive camera lens case to protect it during transport.

Pros: good sound and portable

Cons: This is not so much the product itself, but a protective case would have been a nice accessory

JBL Charge 2

Anonymous from West Hartford, CT on 10/12/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

We hadn't tried portable audio since the "boom box" years because small speakers tend to sound so thin. I bought this because we thought that it would be worthwhile to try since it also could charge phones on a trip we were taking. The JBL Charge 2 exceeded expectations on sound. We now use it at home too while working out or in the yard when we don't want our outdoor audio on. The charging function worked well too and got my phone going.

Pros: Good sound in a small package

Cons: Could use a case to protect it in transport.

Better sound, but a few flaws

SixFeetDeep from South of Chicago, IL on 8/23/2014

First off, the bass on this thing is a big improvement over the Charge 1. It is better than my FoxL, my JBL Flip, my original Charge & even better than my Big Jambox or my neighbors new little Bose. The sound quality is very good with all types of music. I personally wish it had a little more treble to it though. The Bluetooth range works very well & paired up with my Galaxy S4 instantly. Haven't tried out the group option & don't have a need for it. The addition of the speakerphone is a welcome addition but it isn't as good as I hoped. It doesn't get loud enough to hear over the sound of a car or truck! It's supposed to have 7.5W a channel vs 5W a channel for the original Charge, but mine isn't as loud as my Flip 1 which seems like I got a bad one? The battery seems to be lasting the advertised length. The ability to recharge my phone off of it is such a great feature. Very handy. ANY attempt to contact JBL has fallen on def ears. I really like the speaker except for how loud it gets & tried contacting JBL to see if possibly I got a lemon, but the fact that their customer service is awful makes me want to return it. Overall its a good speaker & I would recommend it.

Pros: Portability Sound & bass Speakerphone & group Bluetooth Color Options Internal Battery

Cons: No carrying case Speakerphone isn't nearly loud enough Overall loudness isn't as loud as my JBL Flip 1 JBL Customer Service has been horrible. ZERO response from them!

I can only compare it to the original jbl charge and it is a great improvement over the first. Great sound and good bass. Pretty loud volume. [ Jeffrey  Jan 21, 2015 ]
I haven't compared it to it, but this is a 5* for me. Great sound, nice design, good weight. I'm on top of technology, and this is a good portable speaker. [ Garibaldy  Jan 21, 2015 ]
This speaker is the first and only bluetooth speaker I've ever had and I love it. It's loud and clear and very easily can be moved around, Sorry I can't really answer your question. For the money and to get a good quality speaker you can't beat this speaker in my opinion [ james  Jan 21, 2015 ]
Dont know the klipsch gig. But this jbl charge 2 has plenty of bass and also very loud. Before i bought this i had the bose soundlink. I think this sounds better. [ DANNY  Jan 21, 2015 ]
Yes, I was amazed at how loud this speaker is for its size. It sounds really good. You are not going to have a house party with it but for one room and a few friends it works great. I imagine it would sound well in a car. Depending on how you place it against a wall or in the open you can really make the bass sound good. [ Brad  Dec 09, 2014 ]
Depends on how loud the truck is. I use it at home or in my garage or on the golf course. In the car might be pushing this a bit. [ Chris  Dec 09, 2014 ]
Should be plenty loud enough unless you want people 3 blocks away to hear your music you'll be fine [ james  Dec 09, 2014 ]
Yes it is loud enough to use in a vehicle. Just know that at higher volume levels, battery performance decreases. [ Jeffrey  Dec 09, 2014 ]
Yes, you can turn it all the way up with out to much distortion, has a nice sound but not real loud. Definitely loud enough to enjoy over road noise. [ DAVE  Dec 09, 2014 ]
Definitely!!! We've used it fill the house with music! [ Audry  Dec 08, 2014 ]
Sound good but you need to check the jbl charge one Its sound more better then jbl charge 2.the jbl charge one is very, very loud. [ Ivan  Dec 08, 2014 ]
It can be VERY loud depending on the source. I hook it up to my IPHONE turn up the volume to max on my IPhone and the speaker handles it with NO problem. Buy it I see it is on sale. [ ART  Dec 08, 2014 ]
Yes, should be. Great sound and bass!! [ Christopher  Dec 08, 2014 ]
It easily fills a room, and has been great outide at gatherings. It should be great in your car. [ Martha  Dec 08, 2014 ]

yes it is very loud with plenty of bass [ DANNY  Dec 08, 2014 ]
Indeed it does. On lay over time in a 26ft bus that I drive, I pull in a parking lot, hook up my JBL 2, crank it up and take a seat in the rear. That's it: sound crystal loud and clear. My customers are amazed too. [ SILVAN  Dec 08, 2014 ]
Yes it is, I tested it in my car as well. [ Garibaldy  Dec 08, 2014 ]
I have both. There is not a big difference in sound. Both are amazing, the Flip more so because of its size. The Flip is better for portability, and will fit in a cup holder or horizontally. It comes with a nice case and is more stable in horizontal or vertical position. The Charge only plays horizontally, as the bass drivers are on sides. Only advantage to charge is for charging devices or for extended play--it has tremendous battery capacity. I wish it came with a travel case. [ John  Oct 05, 2015 ]
Press left B button when on a call. [ Victor  Nov 19, 2014 ]
yes the speaker does have a 3.5mm aux port. [ Jonathan  Nov 07, 2014 ]
Yes it has a 3.5mm aux input [ Omega Associate  Nov 07, 2014 ]
I am sorry, but can you specify your question? [ Adam  Nov 07, 2014 ]
It does have a 3.5mm jack (headphone) input yes. [ Andrew  Nov 07, 2014 ]
It definitely does. It's used to play none blue tooth device through the system. Same sound quality. [ SILVAN  Nov 07, 2014 ]
I would let it run low then charge full the first time and keep charging full every time it runs low. don't charge half way through let it run down first then charge.the charge is a great speaker good luck with it. jim byron [ james  Oct 28, 2014 ]
4 hours to charge [ Ivan  Oct 28, 2014 ]
4 hours to charge [ Ivan  Oct 28, 2014 ]
Just charge it until all of the lights on top turn off. Each charge takes approximately 4 hours from a completely discharged battery. [ David  Oct 27, 2014 ]
If you plug the charge2 in to the included power supply/ charger it will automatically charge until it is full and then shut off. When charging, the battery indicator LEDs will blink based on amount of charge and then turn solid when finished. [ Jeffrey  Oct 27, 2014 ]
Yes you have too [ Angel  Oct 27, 2014 ]
A couple hours will suffice. You only need to top off charge after that. So it should take less time unless the battery is totally depleted. [ HAROLD  Oct 27, 2014 ]
Charge it until all the lights are lit indicating a full charge - do the same whenever it runs down. It's a fantastic little speaker, great sound !! [ Christopher  Oct 27, 2014 ]
I usually charge mine for 4 hours it should be enough if it is completely dead.Charging time will vary otherwise depending on how much is left but 4 hours should be the max if it is completely dead. [ Chris  Oct 27, 2014 ]
The frequency response is listed in the manual as 75Hz to 20kHz [ Jeff  Sep 11, 2014 ]  Staff
We do not show that the Charge 2 comes with a carrying case. I also checked the JBL website to confirm, and they do not show this either. The original Charge came with a carrying case, but the Charge 2 does not. [ Jeff  Dec 19, 2014 ]  Staff
