A streamlined receiver made for smartphones

When your smartphone is the center of your entertainment universe, the device in the center of your dash needs to keep pace. JBL's Legend CP100 isn't just a digital media receiver, it's a smartphone accessory — engineered from the chassis up to mesh seamlessly with your iPhone® or Android™ smartphone.

This stuff doesn't have to be complicated, and with the Legend CP100, it isn't. This receiver works with both Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™, so no matter what type of compatible device you have, you'll be able to enjoy a streamlined, car-friendly interface while you're on the road. And the receiver's blazing fast iMX6 processor ensures a quick response to your commands. The convenient "Push to Talk" button gives you instant access to Siri® and Google Voice™ functionality, so you won't have to pick up your phone to make your wishes known.

Works with your phone and works like your phone

The 6.75" capacitive touchscreen feels like a phone screen, so it's easy to find and open the functions you want. Whether you're picking a podcast or getting directions, operation is simple and intuitive using the screen or your voice. Built-in Bluetooth® connectivity lets you enjoy wireless music streaming and hands-free calling.

The Legend CP100 also offers a rear-mounted USB port that keeps your phone charged while you're connected, a composite input for your rear-view camera, and two sets of preamp outputs that will come in handy when you expand your system. This receiver's AM/FM tuner includes RDS, so you'll see station and artist info from participating stations on its screen.

Want to keep your car's steering wheel audio controls?

In most cars, you'll need an adapter to retain those controls with this car stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and radio, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls. You'll see the adapters that work with your vehicle when you add this receiver to your cart.

Bluetooth note: Use of this receiver's Bluetooth features will depend upon your phone's Bluetooth capabilities. Learn more in our article explaining Bluetooth profiles.

Smartphone note: If you're going to use your smartphone with this receiver, be sure to check "Details" for compatibility information. The CP100's USB port is on a 5" cable, so you'll need to purchase a USB extension cable.

    Apple CarPlay & Android Auto

IMX6 Processor: The JBL by Harman Legend CP100 features an on-board IMX6 processor for lightning fast response from Apple CarPlay & Android Auto.

Apple CarPlay: Apple CarPlay is a smarter, safer way to use your USB-connected iPhone 5 or newer (running latest iOS version) with Lightning-connector in the car, while you stay focused on the road. Apple CarPlay takes the things you want to do with your iPhone while driving and integrates them into the Legend CP100. Apple CarPlay offers an incredibly intuitive way to make calls, view maps, listen to music, and access messages from your compatible iPhone through the Legend CP100 in-dash receiver. With Apple CarPlay, you can control these functions from the Legend CP100 receiver's 6.75" touchscreen or activate Siri for minimized distraction.

    • Maps: Through Apple CarPlay, the power and simplicity of Apple Maps comes to your dashboard; complete with turn-by-turn direction, traffic conditions, and estimated travel time. You can enter a new destination or choose a favorite or recent destination using the head unit's touchscreen or by simply asking Siri. CarPlay can also predict where you most likely want to go using addresses from your email, text messages, contacts, and calendars.
    • Phone: With Apple CarPlay, you can use the Legend CP100's interactive touchscreen or ask Siri to make calls, return calls, and check voicemail. To dial a phone number, simply press the front-panel "Push-to-Talk" button and Siri will ask you who you want to call. Using the touchscreen you can manually enter a phone number from the on-screen keypad, scroll through contacts, or select from recent and miss calls. In addition, you get access to your voicemails via touchscreen and Siri. When a call comes in, simply tap the "Phone" icon on the touchscreen to answer. You'll carry on your side of the conversation through the included external microphone, while the other party is heard through your vehicle's speakers.
    • Text Messages: Apple CarPlay also lets you enjoy a better and safer way of text messaging with friends and family when you're on the road, through the receiver and Siri. Through your voice commands, Siri can send, read, and reply to your text messages so that you never have to glance at your phone while behind the wheel. When a new message comes in a banner will come across the screen and Siri will read back the message for you. Text messages cannot be read or typed from the head unit's touchscreen to prevent driver distraction.
    • Music Library: CarPlay lets you access your music in your iPhone's music library, plus iTunes radio from the Legend CP100. You can browse your music by Playlist, Artist, Song, etc.. just like you would on your iPhone from the Legend CP100's touchscreen. You can also use Siri to find and play back your music. The Legend CP100's touchscreen will display song/artist information, as well as album art faded into the background. Tap the Now Playing icon on the receiver's touchscreen and see song, artist, album information with Album Art displaying in the background. From the Now Playing screen you also get basic playback function, like Play/Pause, Previous Next/Track, Fast Forward/Rewind, and Repeat/Shuffle.
    • Audio Apps & Podcasts: CarPlay also supports additional audio apps that you've downloaded to your iPhone for enjoying podcasts, music, and radio - including Pandora, Spotify, iHeart Radio, TuneIn Radio, Slacker Radio, Vox, Stitcher, MLB.com At Bat, CBS Radio News, NPR One, OverCast, Audiobooks.com & Audible. Control them from the head unit's touchscreen or Siri just like you would from your iPhone. Your iPhone's touchscreen remains unlocked during CarPlay connection, so you are able to access additional music apps and listen to them through the receiver; however these apps offer no control or display information from the head unit's touchscreen.
    • Other Functions: Within the CarPlay's touchscreen menu is a circular icon which acts like the back button on your iPhone. In addition there is an "Main Menu" icon which exits CarPlay and takes you back to the receiver's Home Menu.
    Notes:
    • Apple CarPlay is compatible with iPhone 5 or newer running the latest iOS version.
    • Bluetooth hands-free phone and wireless music streaming cannot be used while Apple CarPlay is being used with a connected iPhone.

Android Auto: The Legend CP100 also supports the Android Auto app for Android smartphones running OS Lollipop (5.0 or newer). Your compatible Android smartphone must be connected to the receiver's rear-panel USB port and be paired via Bluetooth (your vehicle's parking brake needs to be engaged to initially setup Android Auto). Android Auto extends the Android platform into your car in a way that's purpose-built for driving and automatically brings you useful information and organizes it into simple on-screen "card-style" pop-ups that appear just when they're needed. It's designed to minimize distraction so you can stay focused on the road ahead. Features of Android Auto include -

    • Google Speech Technology: The receiver enhances your Android Auto experience even more by incorporating Google's Speech Technology using the head unit's external microphone and your car speakers for voice command and text-to-speech, which makes using Android Auto and all of its integrated applications fast, easy, and safe. You will need to press the "Push-to-Talk" button on the front-panel to activate Google Speech.
    • Maps: Use Google Maps to get where you're going with on-screen maps, voice-guided navigation, live traffic information, lane guidance, and more. Select your destination by using the head unit's touchscreen or just say where you want to go through the unit's external mic and Google Speech Technology.
    • Phone & SMS: With Android Auto you get access to your contacts and messages through the receiver while keeping your eyes on the road. Use the unit's external mic and Google Speech Technology to make a phone call, or have your text-messages read aloud to you while you concentrate on the road ahead; you can even reply to texts via voice command.
    • Music: Access your Android smartphone's music library through the receiver via Google Play Music. You'll be able to browse music like you do on your smartphone with song/artist information display and album art faded into the background. Use the receiver's touchscreen to select songs or just say what song you want to listen to through the head unit's external mic and Google Speech Technology. You also get access to online music and radio stations from Amazon Music, Pandora, Spotify, iHeart Radio, Slacker Radio, & Tune-In. Music apps include song and station browsing, plus song/artist information and album art or station logo.

      Notes:

      • Android smartphones with a USB Type-C connector (including the Pixel) may not function without appropriate USB Type-A to USB Type-C cable.
      • Bluetooth hands-free phone and wireless music streaming cannot be used while Android Auto is being used with a connected Android smartphone.

1A Charging: The receiver's USB connection provides 1.0A of current to power and charge your connected Apple iPhone or Android smartphone when your vehicle's ignition switch is set to the 'ACC' or 'On' position (if your mobile device has no initial battery charge, then the unit will not recognize it).

Optional USB Extension Cable: The CP100's USB port is attached to the rear chassis via a 5" pig-tail, so you'll most likely need a USB extension cable (sold separately), or an additional Lightning-to-USB cable or microUSB-to-USB cable (both sold separately) that you can keep connected to the rear-panel USB in your vehicle.

Note: Make sure you are using an Apple or Android certified cable (see Accessory list for compatible cables). Using a non-certified cable will cause Apple CarPlay or Android Auto to malfunction and not work properly.
    Built-in Bluetooth

Bluetooth 3.0: The Legend CP100 features built-in Bluetooth 3.0 with support for hands-free communication and wireless audio streaming. The head unit's built-in Bluetooth allows you to make and receive phone calls wirelessly through the receiver; as well as stream music wirelessly from your smartphone to the head unit. In order to use Bluetooth wireless technology, your phone must also be Bluetooth compatible and be able to interpret certain profiles. This unit is compatible with the following Bluetooth Profiles -

    • Hands-Free Communication: HFP (Hands Free Profile), PBAB (Phone Book Access Profile).
    • Audio Streaming: A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile), AVRCP (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile).
    Notes:
    • The JBL by Harman Legend CP100 does not offer auto reconnection for already paired devices. You will need to manually connect your phone each time you get in your vehicle.
    • Bluetooth is not available when you are using Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.

Multi-Device SSP Pairing: With Secure Simple Pairing (SSP), you can easily pair a Bluetooth enabled phone to the Legend CP100 without having to enter pin codes or go through complicated settings (your phone must also support SSP). You can register multiple Bluetooth source devices with the CP100 receiver, but only one can be connected and used at a time for hands-free communication and wireless audio streaming.

Hands-Free Communication (w/ External Mic): The Legend CP100 supports Bluetooth hands-free communication from your Bluetooth enabled smartphone. You can answer an incoming call from the head unit's touchscreen and carry on a phone conversation hands-free. The included external microphone carries on your side of the conversation while your car's speakers are used to hear the other person. From the receiver's touchscreen you can make a call by entering the phone number using the on-screen keypad, selecting a contact from your phonebook list, or using the call history log of received/dialed/missed calls.

Wireless Audio Streaming: The Legend CP100 allows you to play back stored music and music apps from your Bluetooth enabled smartphone, tablet, or audio player. You can control basic music playback functions (Play/Pause, Previous/Next Track) from the in-dash receiver. Advanced music navigation will still need to be done through your Bluetooth mobile device. This unit also displays song/artist/album information (no album art) from connected Bluetooth source devices. When an incoming call or outgoing call is in progress from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone, audio streaming will be muted so you can take your call. Once the call is finished, your streaming music will resume.

    Touchscreen & Remote Control

Touchscreen Display: The JBL by Harman Legend CP100 features a fixed 6.75" touchscreen LCD monitor. The screen has a resolution of 800 x RGB (3) x 480 with 1,152,000 total pixels. This unit has touchscreen controls with interactive graphics, making menu navigation easy.

    • Day or Night Mode: You can brighten or dim the display by selecting either "Day" or "Night" mode.
    • Date & Time: You can view date (year/month/day) and time (hour/minutes) from the touchscreen display.
    • System Language: You can choose between English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, or German text the on-screen menu.

Front-Panel Buttons: In addition to the touchscreen display, the Legend CP100 features three push-buttons on the front-panel to control Power, Volume, and Push-to-Talk (for Apple CarPlay & Android Auto).

Steering Wheel Interface Ready: The Legend CP100 features a SWC (steering wheel control) input which lets you keep your vehicle's factory radio steering wheel remote controls when used with an optional steering wheel control adapter from Metra (120ASWC1, sold separately).

    Audio & Tuner Section

CTA2006 Compliant Amplifier: The JBL by Harman Legend CP100 is equipped with a 14 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, 1% THD-N) amplifier. The power specifications for the Legend CP100 are compliant with the CTA2006 Mobile Amplifier Power Testing and Measurement standards from the Consumer Technology Association (CTA). These standards were developed as a way to equitably compare power specs from model to model and between manufacturers.

2V/4CH Preamp Outputs: The Legend CP100 is outfitted with 2-volt front & rear preamp outputs for adding an external amplifier. This unit is not equipped with a subwoofer output. The front & rear preamp outputs are also not switchable to a sub out.

Tone Control: The in-dash receiver offers Bass & Treble control along with Balance & Fader adjustment.

AM/FM Tuner: The Legend CP100 features a built-in AM/FM tuner with Manual, Seek, Direct, and Preset tuning. You can store up to 10 FM and 10 AM presets (for a total of 20 radio preset stations).

Beep Confirmation: An audible beep tone confirms each function selection. The beep tone can be disabled/enabled in the Setup Menu.

    USB & Camera Inputs

USB MSC Playback: In addition to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, the rear-panel USB port can be used to connect a USB mass storage class device (like a USB thumbdrive) for music playback. The unit supports MP3 music files loaded onto a USB MSC device formatted in FAT16, FAT32, or NTFS. The Legend CP100 provides playback & search controls, as well as displays song/artist/album info (no album art). You can browse your music by Artist, Album, Genre, Playlist, or Folder. Repeat and Shuffle playback is also supported.

Note: The USB input does not support WMA, AAC, FLAC, WAV or other music files. The USB input does not support MTP or AOA USB devices.

Rearview Camera Input: The Camera Input consists of a Composite video RCA jack for connecting an optional rearview camera (sold separately - see Accessories tab) in order to display the area behind your vehicle on the head unit's touchscreen. When an optional backup camera is connected to this unit, the rearview image is displayed on the screen when your vehicle is placed in reverse gear (purple/white wire must be connected to reverse light wire of vehicle). Automatic video switching takes approximately 0.5 seconds.

    Notes:
    • The rearview camera feature is meant as a back-up aid only; never solely rely on the rearview camera when backing-up. In addition to using the rearview camera, always look behind you to make sure everything is clear when backing up your vehicle.
    • This unit does not offer parking guidelines.

    Q
Does this unit require a hard wire for the Apple Car Play function or can that work wirelessly?
    shane  Dec 18, 2017

    A
Yes it requires a hard wire for CarPlay to work. It still has Bluetooth for streaming audio and whatnot but navigation is one feature that's really nice and only works with a hardwire.

CarPlay requires you to plug in
    jeffrey  Dec 18, 2017
    A
No - it requires a lighting cable connection. I recommend getting a USB extension cable to route from USB on back of unit to the car. Then connect lightening cable in the car. If you ever break the lightening cable or want to connect a micro USB for a droid, you'll save a lot of hassle.

And yes, it does charge your phone when connected.

It requires a hard wire. I simply ran a usb lightning connector to a convenient spot in my dash.

It connects to CarPlay with a hardwire USB connection. You connect the cable (not included) to the back of the head unit during installation and route the phone connection to a convenient location for your phone.

I see a note that Bluetooth devices will NOT automatically reconnect when you renter the vehicle, Does this mean that if I don't want to connect via wired connection and only want to use Bluetooth that I will have to pair the phone each time I enter the vehicle?

Literally just installed this unit today. We paired it once and haven't had to manually pair since. You'll be fine. Just note that we had some issues with the radio. It's still not connected for us.

I saw that too and was worried about it. My phone automatically connects via Bluetooth each time I enter the vehicle. I think what they were trying to say is that it will only automatically connect to the last device connected.

A reviewer wrote that screen brightness adjustment is manual and is wired to & controlled from buttons in the vehicle. Wondering if there is a separate connection port for these wires on the back of the unit ? As understand, that manual brightness control is through on screen touch or slide button in the settings menu. Please clarify. I've placed an order and haven't installed yet.

The wiring harness from JBL does not have an input to connect to the dimmer or headlight indicators from the car. From the one day I've used the unit so far, the only dimming function I've found is via manual, on-screen controls (one button that toggles between a sun and moon icon). I found it to be on the bright side for night diving, but not so bright that it wasn't usable. It was plenty bright during the day, at least for the dash placement in a 4th gen 4Runner.

    Q
does the unit charge an android phone when it's plugged in?
    jason  Dec 07, 2017
    3 answers
    A
Yes, but... The charging current is around 0.5 A. For my phone (Google Pixel XL), that's less than what the phone consumes while running Android Auto. Since that requires the use of a USB cable, there's no way to simultaneously attach to a charger. This is a common problem with most similar units. Google recommends (via its user forum on the subject) using a powered USB hub inline with the cable. I haven't done this mod yet, but probably will soon. I did a 16 hour road trip yesterday and had to disconnect the phone twice to charge it back up with a different cable, during which time I lost on-screen nav.

My little advice is if the vehicle is not equipped with a USB port on the dash, console or glove box etc., then purchase a good quality male/female USB extension cable before installing this receiver to be able to use with both iPhone & Android.

    Q
Can the head unit show: 1) Video from the rear view camera without reverse gear? 2) Information from parktronics? 3) System information about the car?
    alex  Dec 05, 2017
    3 answers
    A
System info from the car: no. Camera: yes, with a bit of effort on your (or your installer's) part. The camera is displayed when 12v is applied to a wire in the harness. If you hook that up to the reverse light, then it only comes on when you're in reverse. If you hook it up to a switch connected to battery voltage, then it will come up any time you want!
    stephen  Dec 12, 2017

I don't believe so on any of those questions. It did not come with a rear camera. I am happy with it though. Hope that helps a little.
    evan  Dec 05, 2017

It cannot do any of these as far as I can tell. Definitely not #1 as my car doesn't have a factory lead for reverse light.

Is there any crossover settings in the CP100? Or any EQ? The image of the sound settings page looks like it only has bass/treble.

In terms of tonal controls, the JBL Legeng CP100 offers Bass & Treble control along with Balance & Fader adjustment from the touchscreen menu. For more details or to discuss further, please contact an Advisor directly by phone (888.955.6000) or online chat. Hope that helps! :)

Did you mean wattage? The stereo's built-in amplification provides up to 20 watts RMS x 4. The pre-amp output signal level is 2 volts. You will find this information, and more, by clicking the "Details" tab on the stereo's main webpage. I hope that helps. My bio: https://www.crutchfield.com/bio/Ryan

Does this receiver come with a lightning cable to connect an iPhone? And also, when connected to the phone, does it charge it?

This receiver does not come with a lightning cable to connect your iPhone. We have a good selection of them if you need one: https://www.crutchfield.com/g_448050/iPhone-Cables.html?tp=69106&pg=1 and these cables will charge the battery of the phone when its connected. HTH!
