Overview Details Customer Reviews Category Info Our take on the JBL Creature® II by Ralph Graves The Creature has landed, bringing you stellar desktop audio. JBL's Creature II compact powered subwoofer/satellite speaker system may look otherworldly, but it can deliver great sound from your computer, and from portable electronic gear like your MP3 player or DVD player even handheld video game consoles. Setup is simple: the system connects directly to the headphone minijack of your computer or portable device. The small satellites give you surprisingly spacious highs and mids, while the subwoofer gives you full, clean bass. All speakers are video-shielded, so you can set them next to your PC monitor worry-free. Volume and mute controls are located on the right channel satellite for easy access. Just press the right button to increase volume, the left to decrease, or both to mute. Crutchfield Customer Review The reviewer purchased this item from us, verified by the email address on the order. When people enter the room they comment on the great sound coming from my XM SkyFi. Then they look around for the speakers. No one can believe that full and rich sound is coming from the Creature speakers. The two small speakers disappear into decor. The larger sub sits on the floor. Even if space is not a concern, these are great speakers for the money. 13 out of 15 people found this helpful Was this review helpful? Yes | No 5 out of 5 GREAT! Yes | No 3 out of 5 Creature II speakers have been overrated Written By Peter, Philadelphia area on Sunday, December 04, 2005 Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?) Crutchfield Customer Review The reviewer purchased this item from us, verified by the email address on the order. The JBL Creature II speakers look great and are easy to set up, but their sound doesn't match the good looks. Los Lobos and some other bands sounded OK (especially the bass). But when I tried classical and jazz piano--a Chopin nocturne or two and some McCoy Tyner, all with a large dynamic range--the high notes were tinny and distorted through the small speakers at both low and (especially) high volume. Adjusting the treble effects helped a little but not much. The Bose Companion 2's (also sold at Crutchfield's) are plainer looking but a better deal for your $99 if you want clear and undistorted treble along with a spacious bass. The piano is often the acid test for speakers. 9 out of 10 people found this helpful Was this review helpful? Yes | No 2 out of 5 They are OK...but just OK Written By GSMetal, Wisconsin on Monday, February 27, 2006 I had high hopes for these speakers but alas, I'm disappointed. One of the reviews here mentioned tinney sound and that's a VERY accurate description of the left and right speakers. Although they are small, they simply can't deliver the 'depth' they need. Man does not live by bass alone and it feels like these speakers are missing a dimension. The bass is very good and delivers the thumping power you need but the left & right speakers just don't deliver the goods. It's too bad because they do look good. Maybe I'm getting spoiled with my home theater. I don't really consider myself a audiophile nut but these speakers are a let down and I'm considering hacking my Apple Pro Speakers to cable into the Creature's bass and use that. You'll see a lot of people rate these speakers high but the the emperor simply has no clothes. 10 out of 13 people found this helpful Was this review helpful?
