Got an urge to get the lows bumping? JBL's GTO subwoofers may just fit the bill. They work great in sealed or ported boxes, so you'll get bass the way you like it. And these compact subs offer a lower profile so they fit into smaller boxes that save you space.

The GTO1014D 10" subwoofer sports a polypropylene cone, with a big rubber surround that allows plenty of cone movement without sacrificing control. A cast aluminum frame and heavy-duty dustcap reinforce the cone for lows that kick without distortion. A special integrated vent keeps the sub's internal workings cool and improves power handling capability. Dual voice coils give you more flexibility for getting the most out of your amplifier.

Note: If you are wiring this DVC sub for lower impedance, make sure that your amp is compatible. Most 2-channel car amplifiers are stable down to 2 ohms in standard mode, or 4 ohms in bridged operation. Most mono amps are stable down to 2 ohms.

What's a component sub and why would I want one?

A component sub is simply a speaker that's designed to reproduce bass once it's installed in a compatible enclosure. Think about the impact of a movie soundtrack in a big theater or even in your own home HDTV setup. A component sub can add the same kind of power to the music in your car. And a car sub is not all about the boom that you hear on a street corner (although that's cool too) - you can pair a component sub with your choice of enclosure to get bass just the way you like it, from tight and punchy to fat and loose. And once you experience music in your car with a well-tuned subwoofer, you'll never go back.

Good Sound, Terrible Hardware

Written by: Dallin from Utah on January 11, 2011

I ordered two of these subs, and they worked great for a few months. Then while listening to music, one tore half way around the sub. The rubber material that connects to the cone of the woofer, just tore right off. Then again, it happened to my other one just a few days ago.
I'm not even distorting them. I'm a high schooler, so I do like loud music, but have never been pushing them beyond their expectations.
Terrible hardware, which is why I'm selling the replacements and getting some JL Audio w3's. :D.

The PERFECT Subwoofer

Written by: Roger from AJ, Arizona on February 7, 2009

Had Rockford Fosgate 10" Punch. All I heard out of that subwoofer was "Thud Pounding Noise!"

With this JBL Subwoofer you hear all of the lows you are expecting to hear.

In a word...CLARITY!

If you are looking for true hi/fi sound, this is the one for you. You will NOT be disappointed!

Enclosure Compatibility

Woofer Cones: The JBL Grand Touring Series woofer features a polypropylene woofer cone with a heavy-duty molded dustcap.

Rubber Surrounds: The woofer features a rubber surround to provide exceptional cone-edge suspension and long-throw linearity with control and stability at the excursion limits.

Spider: The woofer's progressive spider provides better control at the excursion limits and reduces woofer distortion.

Dual 4-ohm Voice Coils: This woofer features dual 4-ohm voice coils that offer flexibility in wiring. When the voice coils are wired in parallel with each other, the woofer presents a 2-ohm mono load. When the voice coils are wired in series with each other, the woofer presents an 8-ohm mono load. In addition, each coil may be connected to a different amplifier channel and each channel will see a 4-ohm load.

Tinsel Wire Protector: The woofer uses a unique tinsel wire protector that also strengthen the joint between the cone, the voice coil and the spider. That joint is the most critical of all and must be able to withstand more stress than any other point in the moving assembly.

Terminals: The woofer features dual binding post terminals which can accept bare wire, pin connectors, spade lugs, and single banana plugs. Because of the spacing between the + and - terminals, they cannot accept dual banana plugs.

Die-Cast Aluminum Basket: The JBL GTO woofer features a die-cast aluminum basket for added rigidity.

Enclosure Compatibility

Recommended Sealed Box Volume: JBL recommends a 0.75 cu/ft sealed enclosure.

Recommended Ported Box Volume: JBL recommends a 1.25 cu/ft ported enclosure. One 3" diameter x 8-11/16" long port, tuned at 33Hz, should be used with the 1.25 cu/ft enclosure.

Recommended Bandpass Box Volume: JBL recommends a bandpass enclosure with a 0.75 cu/ft sealed rear chamber and a 1.00 cu/ft front ported chamber. One 4" diameter x 5-7/8" long port, tuned at 55Hz, should be used with this enclosure.
