The little things that count

The GX600C's low-impedance design safely draws more power from your car stereo or amp to give your music extra punch. JBL also includes external crossovers with adjustable tweeter control so that your lows and highs are evenly distributed and perfectly amplified.

A match for any system

These 2.3-ohm speakers are sensitive enough that you can power them with an aftermarket stereo, but you'll get even better results feeding them power from an outboard amp — up to 70 watts RMS.

Installation note: You'll need a pair of our universal backstraps to install the tweeters in the factory locations.

Features

Plus One Woofer Cones: The Plus One woofer cones offer more surface area than other speakers that fit in the same size opening. This is accomplished by using a new basket design and hi-roll surround. The result is greater bass output and an increase in efficiency.

Size Classification Note: These speakers are marketed as 6-1/2"; they will fit standard 6-1/2 speaker openings, but do not use the industry standard bolt pattern (then again, neither do many car manufacturers at this point). Without using an adapter bracket or drilling new screw holes, the speakers fit many standard 6-3/4 applications. The included brackets adapt the speakers to standard 6-1/2 three hole, Ford four hole, and a variety of oversized 6-3/4 installations. If new screw holes are drilled in the mounting surface of the car, it may be possible to mount the speakers in many of these applications without the brackets. Please refer to the Crutchfield Vehicle Selector to confirm fit in your vehicle.

High-Output Design: The 2.3Ω voice coil design compensates for the high in-line resistance of small gauge factory wiring, extracting more power from factory (or aftermarket) receivers. This results in clearer, richer sound for the listener.

Tweeters: The edge-driven soft dome tweeters can be mounted several different ways using the included hardware:

  • I-Mount System: The tweeters can be surface- or flush-mounted with JBL's I-Mount system:
    • Surface Mount: Surface mounting the tweeters involves screwing the surface-mount cup to the mounting location, then inserting and locking the tweeter into the cup.
    • Flush Mount: Once a cutout is made, the tweeter is installed in the flush-mount adapter, then into the flush mount housing and inserted into the hole. The large plastic locking nut is threaded onto the housing (from behind the mounting surface) to hold the assembly securely in place. When flush mounted, the tweeters may be angled for optimum imaging.
  • Starfish Mounting Brackets: The Starfish mounting brackets allow the tweeters to be installed in factory locations behind the grilles:
    • Bottom Mount: Once the Starfish bracket is trimmed, it is secured to the underside of the grille panel. The tweeter must be inserted into the bracket and locked into place before the bracket is mounted.
    • Surface Mount: Once the Starfish bracket is trimmed, it is screwed to the top of the mounting surface behind the grille panel. Then, the tweeter is inserted into the bracket and locked into place.
    • Flush Mount: There are two sets of tabs to flush mount the tweeter in the Starfish bracket, yielding different mounting dimensions. The upper tabs mount the tweeter completely below the opening and are glued in place. The lower mounting tabs are screwed in place and result in a mounting height just under a half inch. Once the bracket is mounted, the tweeter is inserted into the bracket and locked into place.

Mounting Dimensions:

Cutout Diameter N/A 1.586" N/A N/A 1.51" 1.125"

Crossover Connections: The passive crossovers feature screw terminal inputs and outputs; they will accommodate bare wire or spade connectors up to 0.3" wide.

Tweeter Level: A switch on each crossover allows you to adjust the output level of the tweeter; choose 0 dB (flat) or +3 dB.

Crossover Mounting: Each crossover can be mounted using four of the included screws.

Crossover Dimensions:

  • Length: 3.16"
  • Width: 3.93"
  • Height: 1.16"

Customer Q&A

Q
What is the impedance of the actual woofer and tweeter by themselves? Putting these in using factory wiring in parallel, so need to know what the individual impedance is so I can calculate final load.

A
We don't have that information, but I should point out that installing it like you have mentioned would allow bass to make it to the tweeter and highs to make it to the woofer which will cause bad things to happen. I recommend rerouting the wires so the tweeter and woofer can be connected to the crossover and then connect that to the input on the stock system. Doing this would still have both connected to the same channel like the stock is now but make it so that the drivers will produce only the audio they were made to produce My Bio: https://www.crutchfield.com/bio/Paul

I really like the JBL Series camps available at Crutchfield they're shore to have something for your needs . I recommend a five channel amp the more watts the better crank it up !!!!

I used the OEM amplifier, but I suggest used the same brand of car stereo in case you replace your car stereo.

Im just using a Pioneer car stereo. That's good enough for me.

These speakers are very efficient a good clean head unit will suffice but if you're going to amp them 50 to 75 per channel will make them really boom pick the name brand amp that you like best make sure the wattage is clean

I didn't purchase an amplifier...I'm just swapping out my stock speakers with these new ones.

To answer this,"begin with the end in mind." What is the outcome you want to achieve? and that will direct the amplifier of choice. You will also need to consider the constraints you need to work around such as vehicle size, the quality of the music source i.e factory HU, audio file type, and portable device connection(direct or bluetooth) are some considerations. These speakers are rated for up to 70 RMS continuous so any amp that can deliver power in this range will work. I bought these speakers to upgrade the front doors of a 2017 chevy cruze and they improved the sound over the factory speakers. My goal was to build a system with clean sound, tight bass, but not at high volume levels. However, while the sound was cleaned up some, the factory HU does produce adequate power to fill in the mid-bass and lows much over the stock speakers. My intention, was to add an amp to boost the power in an attempt to fill out the lows and clean up the sound. Before I bought an amp for these speakers I installed a 10" subwoofer in a sealed box in the trunk-- WOW what an amazing difference!!! The addition of the sub dramatically improved the bass (obviously) but also dramatically improved the apparent sound quality of these component speakers. When playing music direct from my iphone (high bit rate= good source quality) my system sounds very clean with good dynamic range and volume even with the factory HU. In fact, it is now 'good enough' that I won't be adding an amp after all. If you want to play loud with less distortion add an amp. If you are hoping to improve the bass output of you system you will be disappointed that even a great amp will only moderately improve the bass output from a 6 1/2" driver. My system; Factory HU. Q
Can these be used with an aftermarket 4ohm amp? I'm looking at changing out my old factory 2ohm amp with the Alpine 445U (45W RMS), and will likely need to run new (16gauge) wires. I also want to replace the rear door speakers with 4ohm. Or, if I kept these, would I need another set of 2.3ohm JBLs for the back?

Yes, they will work fine with a 4 ohm amp.

in my case i used the alpine ktp-445u amp with fosgate r152-s in the front and fosgate r1525x2 in the rear doors of a honda element and it all worked out great. i also added a 200 watt 10" sub and that was a perfect fit. my son was very happy with the system.

The Alpine amp puts out 45 watts x4 at both 4 and 2 ohm, so those JBL speakers would work the Alpine amp and would get 45 watts. Personally, I would run the JBLs up front and in the back.

I'm not an electronics expert but I installed the JBL GX600C on my Tahoe with a 40 Amp amp. and they work fine. I love the deep sound of the JBL speakers.

I'm running these off head unit power with a powered sub (underseat x-over at 120hz so hard to say about the bass response. I believe they are not "ground shaking" but sufficient for front door environments.

I have a factory stereo head and just upgraded the speakers, no amp. The bass is a big improvement over factory.
