JBL GT7-5

A cool upgrade

These GT7-5 speakers from JBL have everything you want when shopping for a car speaker: an advanced design, quality materials, a cool look, and a practical price tag. But in the end, it's what they sound like that matters most, and true to their iconic heritage, these JBLs deliver.

How do they do it?

In spite of their size, these 5-1/4" speakers always kick out plentiful midbass, thanks to their patented Plus One™ architecture which expands the surface area of the polypropylene woofer cone. Balanced dome tweeters handle the high notes with ease, especially when powered by an aftermarket radio or amp. JBL built these GT7 speakers to handle up to 35 watts RMS, but with a design geared toward maximum efficiency, you'll gain superior performance even from a factory radio. Grilles are included for a custom installation.

Great pair of speakers... Small and powerful... all the tones... Can never go wrong with JBL.... and Crutchfield..

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers are a band aid till my next car, i'm not a car person, never did anything like this before. However Crutchfield provided everything needed to change the speakers out successfully and with confidence. I highly recommend using them, and will be buying my car audio equipment from them again instead of the box stores like best buy. Thank you

2002 Honda Civic EX
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

After being a professional dj for 9 years audio is my number one thing and let me tell you these things are great. I put them in my 02 civic ex and the backseat is where the party is at, the treble is not to bright/high to where it makes your ears bleed. It's just right! Rich and smooth. The bass response is surprising for a 5 in speaker they do pack a nice punchy bass. All my professional audio gear is JBL brand so I stand behind the brand and give them and these speakers a thumbs up.

Pros: Nice bass for a 5 in. Tweeter is amazing on these Quality is very sturdy and solid They look cool and sound amazing

Cons: Install was a little tough, some of the included screws where to small Grills didn't fit well in the rear deck. Make sure you have a solid connection or else they will buzz with static.

Cons: Drilling for installation required, but if mapped properly it's not to bad.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Big sound from a small speaker. I was surprised at the amount of mid. and low range but what else would you expect from JBL. Great product and i'm probably going to buy two more for the doors. The Kenwoods there now don't hold a candle to the GT7-5's

Pros: Very easy and quick to install and big sound for a 5.25" Fast delivery.

Cons: I should have bought 4.

Crisp sound

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers sound amazing. Replaced the whole sound system in my vehicle and I am extreme satisfied with the buy. I have them powered by the Kenwood KMM-BT315u and a Pioneer 5 channel amp and they rock. You can hear everything the artist wanted you to hear. They are loud and very clear but at high volume the sound can be a little too sharp. I would buy these again but have a feeling it will be awhile.

Pros: Clean sound, Loud, handle most music

Cons: Too sharp at times.

2012 Nissan Altima
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These JBLs are pretty punchy for a 5 1/4" setup. JBL does a good job of building quality products in the affordable market, though you'll never see them at the bottom of the barrel (and for good reason). Still, the GT7-5 series is a good entrance into the mid-tier market. I get plenty of volume out of them and they do great with mid/high freq. response. They did distort when I tried to push a little extra power to them - they certainly aren't built for enthusiasts. Still, if you need something of good quality and are trying to avoid the $100 and over price points, these are worthy contenders for your cash. I replaced my stock Nissan Altima 2012 speakers with these and it's a strong improvement. Fills out my system nicely. The only downside was in my installation, Crutchfield said these fit without having to drill new holes - that was not the case. Had to drill 2 new holes to mount the Scosche brackets properly. Fortunately my buddy has the bits to do that, so I got it done.

Pros: Under $100, good performance until you really drive them (expected), fits with a lot of cars (albeit with some adjustments), strong mid range performance.

Cons: Not the best performers at higher volumes, doesn't do a good job of limiting bass so if you don't have channel output controls you'll likely have to live with a cap of volume or accept lower bass levels (unless you dig distortion at moderately-loud volumes).

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I with these speakers had the same clarity as the matching components. There's a certain muddiness to them. They my rear door fill speakers so it's not totally critical they sound amazing. More importantly they seem to deliver a little more low bass thud than the fronts, although at 5.25" you're never going to really feel it. Get a sub.

Pros: Fine for the price

Cons: Somewhat muddy

Pretty good, unfortunately I returned them.

2016 Subaru Forester
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Nice speakers, but I am returning them. I installed these in the rear doors of my 2016 Forester and hoped to power them off the stock headunit. They were clearer than the stock speakers, but were too anemic sounding. The stock HU could not power them to my satisfaction. I tried connecting my amp, and then the speakers sounded great, full and much improved over the stock ones. However, I don't amp my rear speakers, so I'll put something else there, or just leave the stock ones in. FYI the adapters included did not fit the Subaru 3 screw mounting points. One screw hole has to be drilled. Crutchfield tech support confirmed this, so not exactly a plug and play install.

Pros: Quality construction, clean sounding. Full and rich when provided proper power (amp likely needed).

Cons: My weak Subaru headunit could not power them to my satisfaction without an external amp.

These were an excellent upgrade over the stock roll bar speakers in a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon. We can definitely hear both the highs and lows better and do not notice any distortion at louder volumes like we sometimes need with the top removed from the Jeep.

Pros: Bass improvement over stock is very noticeable

Cons: None yet

Cons:

Crutchfield response on September 10, 2014 Our Tech Support team reached out to the customer to see if there's anything we can do to help improve the sound in his Jeep. His factory speakers were a little bigger in size, so these new JBLs probably sound like he's lost some bass. And if he's not satisfied, he's protected by our 60-day money back guarantee.he can return the speakers for a full refund.

Features

Plus One Woofer Cones: The Plus One speaker cones offer more surface area than other speakers that fit in the same size opening. This is accomplished by using a new basket design and hi-roll surround. The result is greater bass output and an increase in efficiency.

Balanced Dome Tweeter: Each speaker has a PEI (Poly-Ether-Imide) balanced dome tweeter. PEI is a polymer film that produces a wide soundstage for superior imaging. A semi-dome tweeter has a dome placed inside a cone. Balanced dome tweeters are semi-dome tweeters with equal reproduction area given the cone and dome portions of the tweeter.
