These GT7-6C component speakers from JBL have everything you want when shopping for a car speaker: an advanced design, quality materials, a cool look, and a practical price tag. But in the end, it's what they sound like that matters most, and true to their iconic heritage, these JBLs deliver.
You'll gain a satisfying boost in sound quality from this component system, thanks to JBL's patented Plus One™ architecture, which expands the surface area of the 6-3/4" polypropylene woofer for impressive bass. And the edge-driven dome tweeters handle a wider range in the high frequencies for more natural sound — vocals, in particular, benefit from a smoother transition from the midrange. The external crossovers direct the right frequencies to the each driver to ensure a balanced sound.
JBL built these GT7 speakers to handle up to 50 watts RMS, so they'll perform spectacularly with an aftermarket radio or amp, but with a design geared toward maximum efficiency, you'll get superior performance even from a factory radio. Grilles are included for a custom installation.
Installation note: You'll need a pair of our universal backstraps to install the tweeters in the factory locations.
A component speaker system gives you the best possible performance from your car audio system. A system consists of separate woofers, tweeters, and crossovers, each designed to cover one specific range of frequencies. As separate components, the woofer can move freely to deliver more powerful performance, while the tweeter can be custom-mounted in a better spot up closer to your ears, revealing a whole new world of detail. Separate crossovers are far superior to the simple filters wired into full-range speakers, so the components work together for smoother, more focused sound.
Installed these in my daughter's car, and she is really happy now! We still have the rear deck speakers to go, but these in the front have already made a difference!!
Pros: They sound great, so much better than the factory speakers that they replaced!
Cons: None really, a little difficult to install both the tweeters and the main speakers, but Crutchfield's Master Sheet was very helpful!
high quality sound system
Installed these in a 2016 Subaru Outback, putting the woofers in the door and replacing the stock dash speakers with the tweeters from the JBL setup. The sound is definitely improved from stock, so no complaints there. On the installation side, I was disappointed to see that JBL doesn't include any speaker wire with these speakers. For normal (non-component) speakers, that's not really a big deal, since you'll likely be using the handy Crutchfield-supplied wiring adapters. But with a component setup you have to run a good bit of wiring, to the crossover and tweeters, and possibly the woofers. The tweeters come with a small length of wiring attached, but with the wrong connectors to attach to the crossover. Further, the (almost useless) directions show a length of wire with matching connectors that goes from the tweeters to the crossover, but nothing was supplied. And finally, JBL provided screws and mounting "pods" for surface mounting the tweeters, but no screws to attach the tweeter brackets to a mounting strap if you go that route. Thankfully I had all the necessary stuff in my workshop, but if you don't, be prepared to go out and buy some speaker wire, 12 spade-mount lugs for the crossover and potentially a few other connectors depending how you install.
Normally Crutchfield comes through with excellent installation directions, but they aren't up to par for the 2015-16 Subaru Outback yet.
Pros: Good sound, good price
Cons: Poor installation instructions, no necessary installation accessories included (speaker wire, connectors, etc.)
There is no bass and the tweeters are too high. Too many modifications to install in a Tacoma.
Pros: They look nice.
Cons: Not enough space, customer service was no help Crutchfield.
For the price there actually pretty good. I had heard a lot of good things about Jbl and when they went on seal, I just had to get them. The bad part, the highs are Way to high. I have to turn all the highs down because they were so high they hurt my ears..
Pros: Great if your on a tight budget but want a good name speaker.
Cons: The highs are to loud and cause me a huge headache..
These speakers sound great, way better than the stock speakers. Easy to install with the adapter brackets that Crutchfield sent with them. Using just stock radio to power them for now, they handle the volume at max. Unlike the stock speakers which distorted. Planning on installing amp next year to power the speakers. I installed the tweeter in the upper door location where the stock tweeter was located. It took a little fabrication to get the tweeter to fit. The crossover was easy to mount near the tweeter behind the door panel. The 2014 Tacoma still has a full stock look.
Pros: Sound quality.
Cons: I wish the tweeter had more mounting options than surface mount.
Today I replaced the factory components(Front door) in my 15 Tucson SE. These sound WAY better than stock. I will JBL credit. The Crossovers were small enough to mount inside the door without much grief. Supplied an Allen bit for the screws.
Pros: Sound Quality Supplied Allen Bit for screws Crossover Modules are Compact. Maybe a deck of cards.
Cons: No Pigtails supplied by JBL to run between the Crossover and tweeters. Wires are attached to the tweeters. Had to cut and solder wires to feed Crossover Modules as Crutchfield doesn't have them available for my 15 Tucson. Not a problem for me. just a Heads Up. Crutchfield did supply me with a Wire Color chart for Pos and Neg.
These sound amazing with the little amp I installed.

Plus One Woofer Cones: The Plus One woofer cones offer more surface area than other speakers that fit in the same size opening. This is accomplished by using a new basket design and hi-roll surround. The result is greater bass output and an increase in efficiency.
Size Classification: Some manufacturers, including JBL, call this size speaker a 6-1/2". Because it requires a larger cutout than a standard 6-1/2" speaker, Crutchfield has traditionally referred to this size woofer as a 6-3/4". Please refer to the Crutchfield Vehicle Selector to confirm fit in your vehicle.
Tweeters: The edge-driven dome tweeters are made of PEI (Poly-Ether-Imide). PEI is a polymer film, capable of producing a wide soundstage.
Tweeter Mounting Options: Using the supplied housings the tweeters can be surface mounted flat or surface mounted at an angle (no flush mount housing is included). Once mounted in the appropriate housing, the tweeters have these dimensions:
|Surface Mount||Angled Surface Mount|
|Mounting Depth||screw depth||screw depth|
|Frame Diameter||1.8"||1.8" x 2.21"|
Connections: The passive crossovers feature screw terminal inputs and outputs; they will accommodate bare wire or spade connectors up to 1/4" wide.
Tweeter Level: A switch in each crossover allows you to adjust the output level of the tweeter; choose 0 dB or +2 dB.
Mounting: Each crossover can be mounted using two of the included screws through two holes in the base.

They sound great, in a 65 vette. But it is a after more head unit so I can't really answer you question. [ JOHN Mar 02, 2015 ]
I have these installed in a 2012 Camry with the stock system (lowest level system) I also put some 6x9 JBL in the rear deck. With my unit they amplify the noise a bit and the deck is really tuned out to make the old speakers sound better. This means I have to turn the bass and treble down (even to negative values) to get some good sound. This does indicate that the speakers are great but the deck is really de-tuned. The bass is still strong and the clarity is good. I will definitely be putting in a new deck now that I can hear more of what the old deck is putting out. This is likely with any speaker upgrade on a factory system but these speakers are great so far. [ MARK E Mar 02, 2015 ]
I used them with a stock Kenwood am/fm/cd/usb receiver. the oem speakers were so loud with the Kenwood receiver, I figured it had had enough juice. Unfortunately, these speakers needed an amp to get the bass and sounds levels I desired. I added a blaupunkt power pack to get that extra kick these speakers need. If I had to do it over again, I would not have picked components but rather something much more efficient. [ kenneth Mar 02, 2015 ]
I installed them with a stock jbl audio premium system and have been impressed with the clarity and the bass [ SHAWN Mar 02, 2015 ]
I have these in a 2015 outback. They sound great with the stock head unit. I have been very pleased with purchasing these speakers. [ Adam Mar 02, 2015 ]
