A cool upgrade

These GT7-6C component speakers from JBL have everything you want when shopping for a car speaker: an advanced design, quality materials, a cool look, and a practical price tag. But in the end, it's what they sound like that matters most, and true to their iconic heritage, these JBLs deliver.

How do they do it?

You'll gain a satisfying boost in sound quality from this component system, thanks to JBL's patented Plus One™ architecture, which expands the surface area of the 6-1/2" polypropylene woofer for impressive bass. And the edge-driven dome tweeters handle a wider range in the high frequencies for more natural sound — vocals, in particular, benefit from a smoother transition from the midrange. The external crossovers direct the right frequencies to the each driver to ensure a balanced sound.

JBL built these GT7 speakers to handle up to 50 watts RMS, so they'll perform spectacularly with an aftermarket radio or amp, but with a design geared toward maximum efficiency, you'll get superior performance even from a factory radio. Grilles are included for a custom installation.

Installation note: You'll need a pair of our universal backstraps to install the tweeters in the factory locations.

Woofers

Plus One Woofer Cones: The Plus One woofer cones offer more surface area than other speakers that fit in the same size opening. This is accomplished by using a new basket design and hi-roll surround. The result is greater bass output and an increase in efficiency.

Size Classification: Some manufacturers, including JBL, call this size speaker a 6-1/2". Because it requires a larger cutout than a standard 6-1/2" speaker, Crutchfield has traditionally referred to this size woofer as a 6-3/4". Please refer to the Crutchfield Vehicle Selector to confirm fit in your vehicle.

Tweeters

Tweeters: The edge-driven dome tweeters are made of PEI (Poly-Ether-Imide). PEI is a polymer film, capable of producing a wide soundstage.

Tweeter Mounting Options: Using the supplied housings the tweeters can be surface mounted flat or surface mounted at an angle (no flush mount housing is included). Once mounted in the appropriate housing, the tweeters have these dimensions:

  Surface Mount Angled Surface Mount
Mounting Depth screw depth screw depth
Mounting Height 0.884" 1.844"
Cutout Diameter N/A N/A
Frame Diameter 1.8" 1.8" x 2.21"
Crossovers

Connections: The passive crossovers feature screw terminal inputs and outputs; they will accommodate bare wire or spade connectors up to 1/4" wide.

Tweeter Level: A switch in each crossover allows you to adjust the output level of the tweeter; choose 0 dB or +2 dB.

Mounting: Each crossover can be mounted using two of the included screws through two holes in the base.

Dimensions:

  • Length: 2.625"
  • Width: 1.825"
  • Height: 0.940"

Wondering if anyone has used these speakers with the stock receiver. How's the base and clarity?

They sound great, in a 65 vette. But it is a after more head unit so I can't really answer you question.

I have these installed in a 2012 Camry with the stock system (lowest level system) I also put some 6x9 JBL in the rear deck. With my unit they amplify the noise a bit and the deck is really tuned out to make the old speakers sound better. This means I have to turn the bass and treble down (even to negative values) to get some good sound. This does indicate that the speakers are great but the deck is really de-tuned. The bass is still strong and the clarity is good. I will definitely be putting in a new deck now that I can hear more of what the old deck is putting out. This is likely with any speaker upgrade on a factory system but these speakers are great so far.

I used them with a stock Kenwood am/fm/cd/usb receiver. the oem speakers were so loud with the Kenwood receiver, I figured it had had enough juice. Unfortunately, these speakers needed an amp to get the bass and sounds levels I desired. I added a blaupunkt power pack to get that extra kick these speakers need. If I had to do it over again, I would not have picked components but rather something much more efficient.

I installed them with a stock jbl audio premium system and have been impressed with the clarity and the bass
